#155 of My Fragrance Journey - Giardini di Toscana Blu Mare: The one that smells like the drive, not the destination There's this stretch of road on the Tuscan coast that never quite decides if it belongs to the land or the sea. Half the time you're driving through pine forest, the next minute the water's right there. That's basically what this fragrance is doing - it doesn't just drop you on a beach, it makes you drive there first. Opens bright, citrus-forward - grapefruit, bergamot, lemon, all sparkling, with a little pink pepper flickering underneath. First impression, honestly, it reads like a fairly standard Mediterranean cologne. Nice, approachable, nothing shocking. Then the road bends, so to speak, and the salt comes in properly - this marine accord shows up with actual conviction, and cypress rises alongside it, tall and a bit shadowy. That cypress is doing more than adding green here. It's giving the whole thing structure, almost architectural, as you can still see the forest behind you even once you've hit the coast. What I like is it skips the usual sun-drenched aquatic thing everyone does. This is wilder - cliffs, dark water, pine resin mixing into sea spray. Peppery, mineral, alive in a way that feels almost fougère but somehow still wet. Hard to explain, you just have to smell it. Settles into ambergris and oakmoss eventually, and this base doesn't fade so much as it just expands - feels relentless, honestly, in a good way. On skin it's less like a fragrance and more like weather, moving and shifting. On fabric though? It sticks around for days. Sometimes longer than that. Projection's strong too - this fills a room well past where you're actually standing. That performance is the whole story with this one, really - it's the best thing about it and also the reason to be careful. Great outdoors, coastal walks, evening drives with the windows down. Indoors, in a small space, that salty ambergris base can get overwhelming fast, even a little harsh depending on your nose. People are split on it for exactly that reason - some think it's one of the best modern marine fragrances going, others find it too much for a regular Tuesday. You'll hear it compared to Megamare and Black Sea a lot, and fair enough. But Blu Mare's got a brighter citrus opening and that cypress heart doing something neither of those really attempt. More approachable, still uncompromising, just a clearer profile overall. Honestly though, what stays with me isn't the strength of it. It's that image - driving out of the hills, watching the pine trees give way to coastline bit by bit. This fragrance nails that shift with a kind of precision I didn't expect. Citrus turns into wind. Cypress becomes the edge of the coastline. The sea doesn't show up all at once - it just slowly surrounds you until you realise you've been breathing it in for the last hour without noticing. Most aquatics are trying to smell like a holiday. This one smells like the drive there. And sometimes that's the part you actually remember. Vibe: Pine resin turning into sea spray. Cliffs dropping into dark water. A coastal road that can't decide what it is. Performance: Big projection, long legs - days on fabric, hours on skin. This is not a quiet fragrance. Gentlemen, for you: I had one spray on my wrist in a shop. Went sight seeing and a few hours later in a museum a girl approached to ask for the name of my perfume, and said it reminds her a lot of her ex boyfriend. This perfume (and some others of the house) are all beast mode even though when you spray them they all seem delicate and airy enough. The drydown is really musky and a bit animalic, I think it’s ambergris. But on a man it is SEXY. The opening is gorgeous - fresh zesty salty sea breeze, exactly how I would want my sea perfume to be. Just clearly too masculine for me. Generally I am shocked by the low ratings of the house. I’m guessing it’s because Bianco Latte exploaded and loads of people that normally buy their frangrances in duty free shops starting trying others of the house (sorry...) Another reason may be that virtually all perfumes are heavy on synthetic molecular notes that work for some people and decidedly do not work for others (I’m normally in the second camp so some of GdT work more for me than others) The house for me is very Italian - perfumes are complex, strong, with character, some a bit “over the top” for those that like modern your-skin-but-better stuff. Anyways, gents, this is a BANGER masculine scent for summer, do try it out. Also performance-wise worth every penny of the price.

I have never smelled anything like this. All Giardini di Toscana perfumes smell amazing on my skin and seem to have fantastic performances, with Celeste currently being my signature. But this one is beyond nuclear. I've sprayed in the morning, it's 22:33 now and I am in disbelief, sniffing my wrists and trying to understand how come it is still so potent. The only longevity similar to this I have ever encountered so far was Maison Crivelli's Hibiscus Mahajad (but it still wasn't as potent as this after 14+ hours). In terms of scent, I can't even really pinpoint what is smells like, because it's definitely not a simple scent. It opens up with a combo of salt, pink pepper and lemon/ bergamot that somehow manages to smell extremely deep (unlike most citrus-y scents). Then it starts to morph, revealing pine and oak-moss, but the salt is still there, very potent. Then cypress takes over, with the bergamot barely there and the salt still very prominent. It's now a fresh, salty, green, aquatic yet very deep, smooth and rich smell. So far I've never been able to describe a fresh/green/citrus-y scent as deep and rich, so that's a first. I definitely don't think it will be a mass-appealing perfume. But it will for sure be my go to for summer.

I love this! It goes slightly creamy and sweet on my skin and smells like the freshest, briskest ocean breeze. In Monterey, CA area there are old cypress groves all along the coast. This fragrance captures that place perfectly. It’s a cold but sunny morning in spring. The marine layer has burned off and the seabirds are calling to each other. I hear the waves breaking and peek into the tide pools to see purple anemones, sea urchins and tiny crabs, and rocks encrusted with barnacles and mussels. Just off the shoreline, a huge pod of sea otters are floating above the forest of giant kelp, smashing shellfish open with their favorite rocks and feasting on the briny nuggets inside. A bit further down the shoreline a colony of sea lions slip out of the Pacific after a successful hunt to take a long nap in the sun while they bark as they jostle for the perfect spot. Blu Mare captures all of this in a small, white bottle and takes me to that blissful place every time I wear it. The perfect marine for me and I love it so much that I honestly don’t care what it does to the people around me. Rude, I know. Lasts forever and projects like the bark of a sea lion so apply with a light hand.

I've been wearing this fragrance out of a discovery set. When I first tried it (on paper), I was not a fan. It has a pepper note that almost takes your breath away at first. But I did a wear test of it while we staying at a cottage on the ocean --trying to channel the vibes. I fell in love. On skin, it's a clean, yet spicy peppery aquatic scent --truly a journey. You get whiffs of yourself all day and it gives such a dopamine hit. It's bold, incredibly long lasting. I think this fragrance is the dark horse in Giardini Di Toscana's collection. Unisex but leans masculine. I've been layering it now with fruity or sweet/feminine fragrances (mango skin, pas ce soir) --throws a little stank on it that I can't get enough of-- and you don't need much. I got stopped by a woman in Shoppers Drug Mart 2 days ago asking what I was wearing! She then proceeded to show me a few of her faves in store that she thought I would like --it was so cute! Anyways, if you were turned off by this at first, DO A SKIN TEST, I swear by it!

Blu Mare is a salty, earthy sea scent that doesn’t try to charm you with sweetness or fake freshness—it goes straight for the real thing. It kicks off with a blast of bitter citrus, sharp and bracing, and almost immediately turns salty, like the breeze hitting your face on a windy coastline. The salty marine note and cypress take over pretty quickly and stay front and center for most of the ride. The drydown is ambery, earthy, and lightly green, settling into a natural, skin-like scent with that sea-salt edge still hanging around. This isn’t your typical “fresh-out-of-the-shower” aquatic. If you’re looking for something light, sweet, and breezy, this isn’t it. Blu Mare is more for the hardcore sea lovers—the ones who go to the coast for the waves, the wind, and the solitude, not the beach bars. It’s in the same spirit as Aqua di Sale or Black Sea. Nothing groundbreaking, but well done and with solid performance. Definitely unisex, though it leans a bit masculine.

Perfume has the same vibe of Megamare by Orto Parisi for double less the price. Silage is extraordinary, longeviti extraordinary. As a chemist I cant avoid not to laugh the comments bellow saying "synthetic" do you guys really think that some lady with cramy white dress with yellow flovr print on it goes across the mountain while the mild wing is hugging her and her honey like hair, and she, with hr virgin arm picks the flowrs by hand and takes them to her father who squeeses it with press and extract essential oil? Are you on drugs? Chemical industry doesnt do this anymore....wake up! Im also delighted with people who knows how whale sperm smells like....I wondering where did they try it? Do you guys have some special place where you hang out? The perfume is beast mode, very nice and masculine. Half price of megamare. Has nothing to do with aqua di sale... so go ahead and rock !

If you like a Profondo clean sea frags or bubble gummy summer frags., this may not be what you are looking for. Also, it is not a childish strawberry watermelon summer scent. If you like Megamare, TF Costa Azzurra (edp), you will like this scent too. It is not as dark a scent as Megamare, it is more wearable. There is no salt in its notes, but that is what it makes me feel a little. The opening is citrus, the drydown is oak moss and salt. Longevity and projections are perfect you can smell it even after the shower. It is a beautiful work that I like very much and that stands out from ordinary clean simple sea themed perfumes. First of all this is very nice scent. It’s strong long lasting marine but it’s not unique. It’s very close to megamare and aqua di sale vibe but it has own twist in metalic woody direction. First 1 hour the projection is crazy it’s smell like sea,salt,oakmoss,ambergris metalic marine scent. After this hour it’s settle down but oh god it fill rooms for seconds. This part is salty woody oakmossy and it like 4-5-6 hours. The sillage it’s impressive. The best part it’s late dry down after hour 7 until it dies probably 12-14-16h after sprays.It become very masculine woody still oakmossy and salty.the projection is to the shoulders length.even after 10-12h other ppl feel it. For me this is food alternative to megamare with more werable fell(cause of the woods). Smell 10/10 Sillage 10/10 crazyy Projection 10/10 crazyy Uniqness 2/10 Price 5/10

Anyone ever had a bad experience with the atomisers from the brand? I have never bought a bottle before until this fragrance, but it doesn't Spray well at all. If anything it's a jet of liquid. I've reached out to the brand directly but they can't help me apparently. They told to me send it back to whom I purchased it from. I don't really want to do that. These atomisers aren't the usual. Most are male tubes into female spay caps. This brand is the other way around and I don't want to try a normal cap from any of the other perfumes I have Incase I break it. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this with this brand and has a solution? Thanks in advance

This is “January escapade to a remote seaside town.” You and your lover walk through the forest as black clouds gather on the horizon. When the trees finally disappear behind you, all you see are dark, pointed cliffs high above a furious ocean. You stand on the highest edge and exchange glances. “If you jump, I jump.” Instead, you go back to the hotel and exchange so much dna that if one of you robbed the Louvre, you’d both be convicted. It's forest + winter sea + morally questionable amount of body fluids. That's why the drydown kinda reminds me of Secretions Magnifiques but in a good way.

This is not your usual sandy sea smell with tiny colorful umbrellas in your cocktail. This is countryside sea with the beach ending in a cliff, and forests with pine trees growing high above sea level. There's a cabin in that forest, overlooking the sea from high up, and in that cabin there's a wardrobe where each shirt has a faded trace of colognes from back in the day. The ancient, green and reassuring smell in that wardrobe. That's Blu Mare. It's still on my skin after more than 48 hours. Also, it smell nothing like the smoky Megamare.

El inicio es limpio, oceánico y elegante.. Sin duda entra en mi top 10 de la vida. Absolutamente te recuerda a megamare después de unos 10 minutos que empieza a evolucionar el aroma pero desde un inicio hasta todo su desarrollo se percibe de mejor calidad, más redondo y más gustoso sin perder su carácter y creo que hasta tiene mejor rendimiento tanto en duración como en proyección. Megamare ha perdido un poco de sentido en la vida cuando existe blu mare. Pruebalo o pensadolo bien, mejor no lo hagas.. ;)

This is a most quintessential male scent, green, blue, aquatic and timeless. Stripped down of nuances. Like a pure male version of br540, not that it smells anything like it, but in that its simple and nuclear. I can see how someone can be cynical of this, but the fact is people will like this. Two sprays max. One if you're indoors. It's strong, people will smell you for the rest of the day. Also it gets even better as calone evaporates a little down the line.

This is woodyness done right. Pink pepper and salt are the 2 main notes, but the woodyness is just superb. Classic woodyness. Superb! I recieved a compliment in my 1st day of wearing this, the girl said it's a fresh scent in the air. It's peppery, aquatic, woody, fresh, but stroong and oh, it projects for so many hours. It's mind bogglind how this is rated at 3.53. Looks like somebody took care to pull this down. I guess the arabic clone is at 4.53 😆😆

This is an absolut banger! I say this bcs usually I don’t aquatic notes very much but this one...is such an amazing blend like I never smelled in my life. Besides that the longevity and projection are amazing. Let me tell u one thing, I ve sprayed it on a jacket and it filled my house for almost a week , after a month I used the jacket again and it hit me... the notes are coming in waves ... still! I absolutely adore it! Love Giardini di Toscana

Similar to MegaMare but slightly different to own both 💣🔥 beastly projects longevity 24h easy Summer heat 🐐💯🔥 I am more and more excited and becoming fan of this aquatic freshie, sea salt fragrances but not simple cutrus ,grapefruit pineapples like Hacivat ,Vibrato which is boring nowadays all these clones of Aventus, but these aquatic salty is something different vibe and 10 x better ✌️

I have a 2024 batch, L.2424A. Again I say, this is probably the best woodyness ever created in a fragrance. Classic, perfect woodyness. Congratulations Giardini di Toscana for this true true masterpiece. Perfect scent, perfect longevity, perfect projection, perfect natural ingredients. Please don't change a thing!

This is on my wishlist, not for me - but for my man. He is not usually a big perfume user, belive me I have tried. But for some reason he has used a sample of this almost every day since receiving it from me! One spray is enough to last a whole day and night. Lasts in clothes for days. Fresh and masculine scent!

A deep aquatic scent, of which there are a few on the market, but something new has been smuggled into it. It's fresh sea, salty breeze and citrus at the same time, with a definite depth that symbolizes to me the open ocean where only the bravest venture out while seeing the stormy sky.

I love it as a woman, there is a little cremyness and coconut that's why this isn't the same as Megamare or Black sea. I think it is more unisex, i will buy it in summer! On the blotter is seems to more masculine but in my skin is sweeter and suits well with my chemistry.

Blu Mare is a fresh and invigorating perfume with very good longevity. Just wonderful. I think It will be more appreciated by males although it's unisex. I don't believe someone could hate such a nice scent with universally appealing quality... honestly.

What an absolute BOMB. Extreme longevity, literally got whiffs of it 16+ hours later and got complimented with 1 spray on my hand. Smells so good, lasts for so long, projects like crazy. This is the perfect summer frag if you want to be noticed.

Not quite sure why this has such a low score. Absolute banger of a summer scent. Spicy/woody opening with a nice fresh vibe then warm on dry down. Slight hacivat vibe on dry down. What's not to like. Full bottle worthy.

I like this the most out of the Megamare/Bois Imperial DNA. Kind of addicting, not gonna lie. Usually don't like aquatics but this is really enjoyable. My buy for the next summer.

Today I’m looking at Blu Mare by Giardini di Toscana, a fragrance that begins in the Tuscan countryside, moving through cypress groves and pinewoods before stretching out toward a deep, salty blue horizon. It carries a feeling of anticipation and longing, like traveling through shifting landscapes toward the sea. The question is whether it is worth taking that journey or better left adrift. The first spray quite powerful. A sharp, peppery cypress comes forward right away, salty, bold, and intense. It does not ease you in gently. I will be honest, the opening is challenging. Even more forceful than Megamare in some ways. This is not a smooth or softly blended green fragrance. It feels like dry cypress branches whipped by coastal winds, cracked pink pepper, and a touch of bitter, almost unripe lemon. It is brisk, sharp, and assertive. After about twenty to thirty minutes, it begins to settle. The pepper softens and the fragrance takes on a cooler, drier character. There is a sensation that almost feels minty, though it is more of a cooling dryness than an actual mint note. Giving it about two hours, the marine facets and ambergris become more noticeable. The pepper continues to calm down, and the cypress shifts from sharp and piercing to something more supportive and structured. Around the three hour mark, dry oakmoss blends with the salty sea air and the invigorating cypress, creating a base that feels far more cohesive and wearable than the opening. This will be a polarizing fragrance. It is loud and it opens sharply. If I were rating it based only on the first spray, I might even lean toward dislike. However, the drydown changes the experience. Once it settles into the base, it becomes much more enjoyable and balanced. Performance is strong, so you do not need much. I would recommend starting with a small sample and allowing it to fully develop on skin before forming a final opinion. A little will go a long way. To my nose it leans masculine. What I find interesting is that the only other fragrance I have tried from this house is Bianco Latte, which smells like a rich vanilla milkshake. The contrast between that and this sharp, peppery marine fragrance is striking. I enjoy this DNA, so for me it is a win, but it is something that I would highly recommend sampling before committing to a full bottle.

Okay, so I’ve been wearing through a decant of this and I honestly didn’t expect to like it this much. It’s got that same salty, oceanic DNA you’d find in Megamare, but this one strips away the moodiness and intensity and gives you something way easier to wear—lighter, fresher, more open. It still somehow manages to punch hard in the performance department though, which totally caught me off guard. From the moment it hits the skin, you get a wave of super clean marine notes—salty, aquatic, slightly metallic in a good way. It’s fresh in a sharp, almost ozonic kind of way, and what you smell up top is pretty much what you’re going to get throughout the entire wear. It doesn’t really evolve much, but that’s kind of the point. It’s streamlined, focused, and just leans fully into that bright ocean breeze vibe. It stays consistent the whole way through—fresh, salty, and airy with this slightly musky base that helps it stick. And wow, does it stick. The longevity is insane for a fragrance this sheer and breezy. It projects like crazy, especially in heat or humidity, and it clings to clothes for days. I’ve worn this on hot days, post-gym, at the beach, running errands—you name it—and it always feels right. Not gonna lie, it’s one of my most complimented scents to date. There’s just something about it that cuts through the air and gets noticed in the best way. Definitely planning to grab a full bottle once this decant runs out. It’s a no-brainer for anyone who loves salty, clean, high-performance aquatics that don’t overcomplicate things.

It's a great fragrance. My imitate image was of walking along the countryside in the south of Europe, where cypress trees are lined up allong the road near the coast. A tranquil scene with nothing but the sounds, the beautiful view, and the wonderful scents of nature. I have to give credit to Silvia Martinelli, and Giardini Di Toscana for making a truly transportative fragrance. The star of the show is the Cypress (i Love Cypress). It's such a good raw material, and combining it with sea water and ambergris to make it feel like a coastal fragrance is a great artistic choice (althoughi wish i got more sea notes on my skin). I never got a lot of citrus. It was lingering in the background, livening up the scent, helping it breath. Because Cypress alone is Very strong and can make it almost unpleasant. The bottle looks fantastic, and the price (at least here) is perfectly ok. Where: casual to semi-casual. Work friendly, well suited for vacations. Works perfectly well in formal settings too, but I'd go another rute for formal personally. When: Spring and summer. Daytime. But, i do recommend trying it on in Autumn and winter too. It might just make your day. Who: Anyone. Any gender, any age. Although I expect most teenagers would prefer something sweeter. Personal score 8/10. It's a great fragrance, well worth trying. You have to like Cypress, and you have to like green aromatic fragrances. If you do, it's most certainly sample worthy.

Blue Mare, based on listed notes, opens with three types of citrus and pink pepper, but to my nose it simply opens with elemi and a touch of bergamot to boost the citric side of elemi. Almost simultaneously, an oceanic/aquatic Briny Sea element reveals itself ( The sort you get in plenty of modern Niche aquatic fragrances like Megamare, Atlante, Sel Marin etc ) This makes for a potent brew initially and for a good hour this radiates strongly, and might feel a little too much for some ( not quite Megamare but still.... ) Anyway, the initial Deep Sea 'Flex' starts to mellow down, then amber woods and a hint of clean musk start to form the remainder of the fragrances mid-base along with the opening notes. For the most part Blue Mare will eventually feel more like a top end Designer frag than a true out-and-out Niche. And if I'm brutally honest the deeper into the drydown it goes, it sorta reminds me of Azzaro Chrome! The longevity is a solid 8-9 hrs easy, and apart from the first hour or so of projection will settle into an easy to wear, wafty 'Walk by the Sea" experience. I quite enjoy this as an easy to wear spring/summer choice. Just about works out as OK value for money.

This perfume should be called anything but “Mare”. This is more woody/foresty/green and fresh scent. To my nose, Blue Mare is mainly a cypress tree fragrance with a marine, aquatic, ambergris background. As soon as I spray this on the skin, it’s immediately cypress. No lemon or bergamot in here, maybe a bit of grapefruit, it has that kind of bitter, zingy freshness that grapefruit has in perfumes and than more cypress tree greenery aspect. I like it and my husband likes it even more, which is to be expected, since it’s a masculine perfume through and through. The performance is great, it’s one of the beasts of Giardini di Toscana, on par with Bianco Latte, Christos and Bora Bora. For the price, it’s a steal, so it’s a perfume that I would highly recommend to anyone (males) to get their noses on it!

Definitely done in the style of Megamare and Black Sea, but a little easier to wear. I have all three (fan of marine scents) and they all have their own place in this fragrance world. Blu Mar maybe the easiest to wear out of the three. It’s has a little more citrus and woods to help smooth out the seaweed. I love it but it’s not for everyone. If you are a fan of Megamare, get it, if you do not like the marine scents, this is not going to win you over. Rating 8.1/10.

The opening is a bit men's cologney, but the drydown is delightful and I would absolutely wear this. Let me know if anyone got the same impression, but the drydown reminded me of Vanilla Powder for some odd reason. Obviously less sweet and more salty but I'm getting the same feeling from it. I love Vanilla Powder and I love this now so I'm enjoying this unexpected discovery.

I think it smells lovely and unique. Like lemon rind washed in sea water and hung out to dry on a cypress tree. It's also strong on the brine and salt that might smell like urinal cake on some chemistries, so not a safe blind buy. Another hit for me from this brand. So far I have tested, and liked everything they have put out!

Freshly emerged sea-creature scent. It opens intensely fishy and saline, yet unmistakably carries the house’s signature ultra-synthetic character. Nice aquatic and aromatic fragrance with a radiant woody accord in the base. Smells quite masculine. But I still like it because it has a nice akigalawood molecule (or some other molecule that smells clean and appealing to me).

This fragrance more lean to male. For me it opens aquatic, fresh, good for summer around the beach.

Bought this for myself and gifted to my BIL. Too masculine for my taste but smells incredible.

Opening smells very peppery, not a fragrance pink pepper but as if someone tossed course ground black pepper on you. Then it opens to a less offensive Megamare with a hint of citrus and sea notes. It a nuke like everyone says. After 3 hours, it calms and I like the dry down a lot more then the opening. It still has that off-putting megamare DNA that left without much of a twist is just too much for me. This twists it, but not enough. That opening black pepper is super weird and throws me off. Even if you can find this for a deal, I would sample first. Not safe at all.

It is a very warm day, a weekend day! I invite some friends over and the plan is to grill some steaks outside. So I bought 4 porterhouse steaks from the craft butcher, big ones, the day before. The time to prep the steaks has come. They have been sitting for 2 hours so as to get them to room temperature and I slap them down on a plate to season them. I use fresh ground pepper, lots. That is what Blu Mare reminded me of, the scent of raw meat with fresh pepper as I carry them out to the grill. It does change however, after a few hours I do get earthy moss notes.

Will neither offend nor inspire, as start is pure generic shower scent or bathroom refreshner like Axe was. Bit citrusy, bit salty sea water, bit pepper, but the drydown is what youre waiting for. I had problems smelling this perfume in first hour (whole day indoor on warm skin), intimate skin tight to none, but after this time it starts to develop and here goes its strength. Interesting woody warm notes (maybe ambergris) start to appear, but in general its not enough to buy a FB.

I feel as if this perfume is gender fluid. It opens very traditionally masculine, and it dries as a very basic feminine and kinda floral smell, I don't know where it came from. The scent itself is very basic and unremarkable, but I found this transition to be very interesting. It's long lasting, and my clothes smelled more delicate/beautiful than herbal/salty/masculine after.

i just smell the pink pepper. the opening was sort of aquatic, but after the first seconds, just pink pepper. a more masculine leaning scent, for me.

Mega mare dna but this has harsh sea notes, thought will disappear but no 🙃,,, I think one spray behind the neck is enough

Very strong, very masculine. Sea notes and cypress are predominant. Not particularly original. Didn't enjoy it.
