Shabby Chic

Oh my...this is a gorgeous pink peony based perfume! It smells delicious but in a floral way, it has a base of soft fluffy white musk, various lactonic accords plus strong creamy woods and a special "dirty" touch that is almost imperceptible. It is much floral and musky, creamy and powdery but not chalky at all...the powderiness is very breathable. It is an hevenly scent...celestial is the word! It is soft and truly feminine, also romantic to an extreme...full of grace, delicacy and candor. And full of love too!! This is how I imagine a princess would smell like...a young princess wearing taffeta dresses, with a demure yet flirtatious character! It smells like a baby too, probably thanks to the mesured lactonic bits in it and the jasmine and honey facet of the rose (this time the lactonic note is a bit dirtied, nothing proper animalic or stinky, but dirtier). Many peopole suggested it to me and I see why it is so well loved. It made me recive many compliments as per usual with the Giardini di Toscana perfumes. It is modern while still using very classic flowers as its core, I don't find it "old" or antiqued at all. Colonia Nobile and Shabby Chic are my favorites at the moment, the latter has a type of femininity I feel comfortable with. If you are intrested in some more in depth observations here is what I noticed about Shabby Chic: the opening is all about a pink peony that smells young and crisp like a morning bloom. Actually it's more then crisp...it's crunchy, as if filled with vital lymph! Full of life as if just blossomed, it has dew and morning brew on it, but while watery, there is nothing truly aquatic about it, it's more as if the petals are dewy/pearly and almost translucent. Like a crystal peony, that is what describes it best! The petals smell both fragile and resilient, a contrast that I like a lot. It is so beautiful, rarely I find a singular flower note so enjoyable! A fresh facet is present too, together with a bit of the greenness of the stem. In the middle I can still feel the peony, at this stage it is not yet properly replaced by the bulgarian rose, I could say the central spot is divided between the two with the rose being a tad oily, sweet as if honeyed but also powdery. There is no citrusy or lemony facet to be found in the peony or in the rose and neither fruitiness which is a welcomed absence since the florals results more pure. On the market there are thousands of peony/rose based fragrances but I like them the most when the florals are tender and candid, true to their nature. The white florals note is but a touch to my nose and it smells a little green, probably present just for armony and richness; if I go deep and try to understand it I can detect some jasmine in it, it smells delicate but also a bit dirty-sweetish (but not proper animalic or fully indolic), this throws just a touch of dirtyness in the mix, probably there is some lilly of the valley too (or some similar molecule). As for the base of the scent, the flowers dance around some lactonic accords. This lactonic quality is pretty much embuded in the dna of the brand but fortunately here this accord is well dosed. It doesn't weight down on the flowers, like it does in Celeste or Borabora from the same brand. You can already feel it in the opening but it gets more strong in the mid and in the dry down. Also, here there is no vanilla or sugary note so the result is suave. I much prefer when the lactonic parts are tamed like in here. The musk is clearly of the white kind, warm and clean but also very creamy and whipped. I like to refer to it as cloudy musk or kitten musk.... remainds me of a soft kitten fur! It could be the same musk that has lactonic properties, or maybe they used a proper lactonic molecule like in their other perfumes. Dry down is woody, and sandalwood too is lactonic; the brand said they used javanol and Virginian cedar, what I can say is that the sandalwood is much creamy, it smells like a sweet humid wood and so does the cedar, very mellow woods with nothing dry or scratchy about them (also no pencil shaving smell from the cedar). Surprisingly, from time to time, in the dry down you can still smell the beautiful peony. One thing I noticed specially in the dry down is that the lactonic bits result more dirty here then their usual in Giardini di Toscana, maybe a result of the interaction with the jasmine or of the honey like rose, but there is nothing stinky about it, just a touch of something gently carnal/animalic, almost imperceptible. Performance was less in line with their other offerings, lasted on me for about 6 hours and projected only for the first 3, others from the line behave better but I would still consider it a good performance, specially on my dry/perfume eating skin. Dry down is extremely enduring, still perceptible until night to me and everyone coming close, and lasting until the day after. Overspraying helps and contrary to others from the same line you can do it without ill effects. The scent fits quite well the shabby chic aesthetic from which it takes its name, when you smell it you could easily think of vintage victorian decor, floral motifs, lace and feligree....and surely beige, greige and pastel colors! But personally if it weren't for the name I would be more remainded of the new romantics aesthetic...kinda like the vibe and atmosphere of John Galliano 2009/2010 fall/winter show, or that of Alexander McQueen's rain show, or of some of Biba's late years styles. First time I smelled it my mind was filled with the image of oddly beautiful feminine faces...think of the alien-esque beauty of models like Lilly Cole, Polly Fey, Gemma Ward or Sasha Pivovarova, with those big huge bamby eyes, very set apart from one another, porcelain/glass skin...very much otherwordly! I feel like the scent is almost too gracefull for me! For who doesn't follow fashion you could maybe think of the vibe of a Cocteau Twins song, such as Pearly-Dewdrops' Drop, or Elizabeth Fraser own voice! Maybe you remember her best in Teardrop from Massive Attack, it was a huge 98's hit. This scent has that kind of romanticism, I promise! I am wearing it everyday for about two weeks, I am a little obsessed!

The bad reviews on this saddens me but I understand everyone's taste in fragrance is different. This is a beautiful fresh rose peony musky scent. It's not a beast mode but it has an amazing light sillage and I get wafts of it pretty much all day. This is perfect for those days where I don't feel like wearing perfume but want to simply smell fresh and clean Edit: I went to a coffee stand to order a drink and both of the baristas complimented me on the scent. I was surprised that they could smell it because by that point I couldn't smell it too much. So it definitely has decent projection where others can smell you. I've been wearing this daily since I got it 💗

The comments saying its grandma mean nothing to me, i sprayed this delightful rose fragrance on one of my silk nighties (that is also very grandma) and it stayed on it for over a day. Its a very cozy and comforting smell that instantly calms me down, lovely to spray myself with when im at home and im unwinding for the evening unfortunately i cant waste this in the daytime because i work at a butcher shop and the smell of meat has overwhelmed every fragrance ive worn to work

I tested this the other night and walked out into the cold air. A most beautiful peony scent that was warm and enveloping surrounded me. I got an almost fruity sweetness, and I cannot imagine which note brought that out. I also do not get a red wine note, but if I did, I would want to drown in that! I smell elegant, and soft with that Giardini secret sauce, which is an almost imperceptible milky note. So lovely and elegant.

This is one of the most beautiful Clean Girl aesthetic fragrances I've ever smelled! This is what I wanted Glossier You to smell like! This is a fresh floral with a nice sexy musk and something slightly purple in the background. I'm really glad I gave this a chance because I typically don't like peony dominant scents but this is so good! Beats the iconic Bianco Latte by several miles for me!

I`m surprised about all the hate here, I tested all Giardini di Toscana scents and this was one of my 3 favorites, and no, Bianco Latte was not in my top 3. This is very dry, warm, and almost powdery more than musky. It is so comforting and cosy. Cannot wait to wear it with my oversized white shirt next week to work.

Realistic peony and sweet rose, wrapped in a fluffy musk with a touch of woods in the background. Linear, pleasant, low sillage with moderate to long longevity, especially on fabrics. This is a gorgeous laundry floral rose. Its perfectly named too. Just imagine a cute cottage by the seaside, filled with feminine antiques. You are folding fresh laundry with a huge bouquet of roses next to you.

Photorealistic dryer sheet. I really mean that, and in the best way possible!! It smells like your favorite freshly washed shirt, on a cozy night in with your favorite person <3

To me this smells like Phlur Missing Person or Rosie by Rosie Jane, but with actual projection to it. Kind of a warm skin musk and sweet floral scent, cozy

Not bad, but not a big fan of Shabby Chic. If you’re after a beautiful peony/rose musky perfume, there’s better from Ex Nihilo! It’s more expensive but it’s smells divine, so I would suggest trying Lust In Paradise. Shabby Chic smells very average, designer like perfume, nothing niche or elevated about it. I think it’s the musk that doesn’t sit well with me, it gives me something a bit synthetic. As other commenters said before, the performance is on the lighter side, with am intimate radiance in the air. It’s ok, but not worth money for me personally. Side note, I own Ode to Dullness by JHAG and I don’t see much similarities between Shabby Chic and Ode to Dullness. This is rose/floral, Ode to Dullness is soft spicy, anise and cashmeran heavy. Both musk based, but go in different directions.

I recently decided to explore rose-peony and white floral fragrances. In the past, I wore GdT "Bianco Latte" on a fairly regular basis (until I tired of the fragrance). The additional Giardini Di Toscana perfumes I've tried have been a "meh," or an outright fail (Christos). I do not have much to add, or say about Shabby Chic. Shabby Chic is a nice enough perfume but as others have cited, the performance is pretty abysmal. Silage is nonexistent and duration is poor. From the wee-bit I CAN smell, I detect a pleasant, light 'n airy, dry rose with a bit of sweet peony. There's a dusty spiciness, some musk, woods and a bit of powderiness in the dry-down. The fragrance is okay. A barely-there scent. I just cannot smell it.

Having tried a few Giardini di Toscana perfumes now, I get the vibe. It's conceptual, arty, and aroma chemical-heavy. An interesting journey, but would I wear any? No. This is nice, smells creamy and rosy, because of Javanol. Which is quite pricy to produce but cost effective as a little goes a long way. I want naturals, but I'm not going to get them as they're pricy. So if you feel the same as me, my advice is stick to the classics. I've been testing out a few Giardini di Toscana perfumes and it's all wearing thin. These strong aroma chemicals are not good for you. Cut out all this synthetic perfume crap and you'll really notice, when you wear it how it gives you a headache and makes you feel tired.

This perfume is, to me, a floral version of bianco latte (please don't come for me i mean this in a pretty abstract sense I'm not saying it's the same thing) but even milder and weaker. It's a suuuper intimate skin scent that fades within 2-3 hours. It's lovely but it should be about half the price for that performance. I'd love to get it in a travel size but alas the brand does not offer that option it seems. Overall: it's cute, it's creamy floral and sweet, perhaps a good cozy bedtime fragrance.

Smells like peonies, roses, and violets pressed between the sheets of diary paper. Overall a pretty and musky floral scent, slightly sweet and warm, very approachable. Sticks close to the skin, but if I press my wrist to my nose I can smell it. This is very much an intimate/'for you' scent. I'd potentially consider a full bottle for this.

From the first spray and first sniff - it’s a a rosey fragrance, very feminine, powdery and sweet - just exactly how pink colour would smell. I would save this for spring or fall as its more flowery and not so sunny/beachy one. Not the strongest rose fragrance tho. Reminds me of White fire Tiziana Terenzi.

It really does smell like a plastic doll’s head: powdery, slightly sweet, and strangely nostalgic, like warmed vinyl with a cosmetic haze. Uncanny, a bit eerie, and memorable rather than pretty. Tag(s): powdery plastic, doll-head, eerie-cute

the opening was just peonies and roses, and it seemed kind of basic and generic. then i got the musk and powdery scent. i found it just an ok scent, nothing remarkable. probably crowd pleaser

Rose water with some musk. This smells a bit vintage-y to my nose but not like a grandma. I think if you want something rosy you have better options at better prices.

Pretty floral, sophisticated, delicate and feminine scent. Might not be groundbreaking but still a good choice if you’re a floral musky perfumes lover.

I got this in the sampler set. It’s very different from the typical vanilla/almond heavy scents for Giardini di Toscana. To me, this reminds me of a dusty, muskier version of Chloe - like a bottle that has been sitting in the cupboard for ages. I also understand what one reviewer called a ‘rotten wine smell’ - I wore this to work and resprayed halfway throughout the day. I was insanely paranoid that it smelled like I was drinking wine on the job. In the beginning, it does smell like sniffing a bottle of red wine that was left open on the counter all night. This becomes a muskier, dustier smelling rose after awhile. Don’t think I’d buy a full bottle.

The scent is pleasant, but it feels more like a lightly scented cream. I suspect I might be somewhat anosmic to it, as I have to press my nose directly to my arm and take a deep inhale to detect it. I highly recommend trying the kit from Giardini Di Toscana. This way, you can sample their range and find your favorite fragrance. That's what I did, and they reduce the value of the kit (20 euros in Europe) when you purchase any of their 100ml perfumes.

Many GdT’s have this musty quality about them that will evoke an old person’s home in Italy. Shabby chic, while quite nice, is an exemplar of that characteristic. Peony and white flowers against old wood. Opening rose that doesn’t make it to the dry down. There’s nothing to dislike necessarily, but it’s not a modern vibe.

I actually LOVE the opening of this. Clean, crisp and sophisticated. It does remind me of Mojave Ghost, but just a little bit. I find this one much more likeable. Sadly, that's gone in 20 minutes. No projection, zero sillage. Nobody can smell it on me. Nobody. Extremely overpriced for what it is. Which is disappointing.

I've got a rather strange opening here, like unwashed body parts covered by nondescript flower scent. Thank God it settles down, and turns into a super fine-milled chalky scent, with a hint of flowers. To be honest, reminds me of ME musks I tried before so does not really do it for the price.

Smells soft and fluffy - I get a lot of slightly sweet powdery musk. The powderiness was reminds me of Replica Matcha Meditation. It’s a comforting hand lotion type smell. Reminds me of my mom after she showers and applies lotion. Pleasant scent, just not me.

Smells exactly like a blonde woman that lives by the beach. Perfectly embodies the name of the fragrance. Literally did not last though, I'm starting to see a pattern with Giardini Di Toscana fragrances.

I think I’m a bit nose blind to this fragrance. I only feel a very faded floral note and maybe some sweet musks, but I really need to stick my nose in the blotter to smell a fraction of the fragrance.

Nice floral scent, but for the price I would look for another fragrance. Is it good yes, is it worth the price tag? maybe, depends, for me it is a no.

What felt luminous and fresh shifts into something heavier, more insistent. Romantic in the classical sense, yes - but for anyone who didn't sign up for that, the transition feels less like an embrace and more like a door closing. The rose is persistent in a way that's hard to negotiate with. It silences everything around it and steers the whole composition into territory that feels dated rather than timeless. In heat, or applied too generously, that density compounds - and not always pleasantly. This is one to approach carefully on warm days. The base does what it can. Creamy musk, Javanol, cedarwood - comforting, soft, genuinely beautiful in its own right. But the performance overall is surprisingly close to the skin for the price point. The projection doesn't match what the brand suggests. You'd expect more presence, more endurance. What you get instead is something intimate to the point of fading. Which is the central tension with Shabby Chic - it commits completely to one very specific vision and doesn't apologise for it. That kind of conviction is rare and, in some ways, admirable. But it means the margin for error is narrow. If traditional rose is your language, this will feel like a masterpiece of quiet elegance. Creamy rose perfume, which -unfortunately- starts with sharp, scratchy soap smell. Really, first minutes aren't exactly comfy. I blame white flowers in combination with syntetic musk - it is almost sauer: like sweat which you want to cover with deo-spray. Hour ago, the perfume become elegant, soft, almost lactonic. Rose is delicate and clean. Anyway, so "chic" I skip... --- Projection is moderate, perfume doesn't lasts long (3 hours, then re-spray...)

I chose to wear Shabby Chic from the entire line as it seemed the most wearable, neutral and not as bolshy as the other bold characters. But upon first spray, I didn’t detect much on my skin at all. 3 hours later and it’s still just lightly smells of printer paper and white musk. This is what I imagine delicate spider webs should smell like. It should be called Eau De Papier Mâché. I get more scent from a basic moisturiser.

top note: strong fermented grape, like somebody spilled a bottle of redwine over me. middle note: laundry detergent and washed clothes but in a more chemical way. base: musky and soft. ironically this perfume smells its best when its almost gone haha. first try: didnt mind it, smelled fresh and kind of cute. second try: overwhelming dislike for the rotten wine smell..

I love rose fragrances, even the ones that smell powdery and grandma like, but this is just too stale. Rose and peony here smell almost like they're dried. No freshness. It reminds me of one of those rose scented soap bars that are wrapped in paper with a vintage pattern on it. Its still pretty but in my early twentie I dont want to smell this mature.

Blind buy an used bottle and l was expecting a soapy grandma scent. I have 3 more from the brand and l LOVE then all (Bianco Latte, BoraBora and Christos). But l only felt a sour note and nothing more. I think l am anosmic to the javanol. Sad. I am selling the bottle with 35ml inside. If you want it, PM me (EU and l can ship with local prices the USA)

This is migraine inducing. I've come to the conclusion it's antique, powdery Rose/florals maybe something synthetic, that sets off migraines for me. I couldn't scrub it off my skin. It reminds me of an older mature scent but I can't place my finger on it.

This is the most hairspray-iest hairspray perfume I've ever smelled. It smells like a vague musky/woodiness and alcohol. Thank God it didn't last long before it went away. It literally smells like that unscented hairspray with some Aquanet.

Light powdery rose that to me smells like violets and musk. It’s so intimate and doesn’t seem to last. It’s not bad, but I completely forget I’m wearing it and then it’s gone.

Unfortunately I am completely anosmic to this scent, and I can only smell the dry down faintly on clothing. I'm sure it's lovely though? Or terrible? Not sure

It is a nice enough scent if you love your florals, however to me it smells like a very strong, cheap soap that you can smell on yourself constantly.

This is horrible and unbalanced. There is an absolutely brutal synthetic note in it that I have never encountered in my decades of wearing perfume. It smells peppery and projects like crazy. It makes me cough as though I’m inhaling actual pepper and instantly gives me a headache. I made the mistake of not washing it off before bed and woke up with a lot of pain in my sinuses. Seems like a musky rose and peony fragrance, but this awful synthetic note as well as something that smells like patchouly just makes it peppery and dirty and totally ruins it. This goes in my “Never Shall I Ever” pile!

This is a WARNING for all the rose scent haters!!! I got a sample of this perfume with a purchase, I didn’t look at the notes before testing it on my skin. The opening is sweet and floral, not a rose in sight. But after a few minutes, it’s nothing but roses ( which if it wasn’t clear by now, I HATE). I’ve tried 3 different soaps, a disinfectant wipe and rubbing alcohol to make this go away, ITS NOT WORKING!!! This makes me nauseous and I can’t get it off my body 😭

Beware! First perfume in my life that I had to wash away from skin and throw shirt in the laundry. Persistency is high, so it's hard to get rid of it, and what's wrong? It literally makes my stomach turn and my throat tighten - it's a mix of older, mustiness and soaked gauze, medical staff in white coats already sweating on their second shift non stop after night without shower and a hospital waiting room where they bandage ulcers, a muted, sweet, crazy stench!

This is just a screechy powdery scent to me. I couldn't get passed the initial scent and had to scrub it off less than a minute after putting it on my wrist. A big old no for me.

This is an extremely mature, vintage, powdery rose. Very, very traditional old cosmetic vibes.

Testing on my skin for the first time. I immediately picked up something that I didn't when I initially tested this on paper. On paper I don't remember thinking this, but on my skin this immediately reminds me of my grandmother in the best way! This smells like her bedroom, or her clothes. It's not a bad thing at all! Very comforting and almost touching to me because this revokes some very fond scent memories. My grandma is still with us and probably sharped and definitely in better shape than me😂 this just brings back childhood memories of sleeping over at her house as a child and her bedroom would have this scent. It's soft, cozy and powdery with lovely florals. I wouldn't be able to tell what the exact flowers are, which is kind of odd. Usually rose has quite a distinct scent in perfumery but this blend doesn't come off as a clear rose to me at all. Maybe it's the strong scent association that's throwing me. Shabby Chic makes me feel safe, like wrapped up in soft cozy covers. A loving woman's gentle touch tucking you in. Whiffs of makeup powder floating around the room from the dresser. Maybe some lovely flowers in a vase that are staring to dry. Or maybe the floral scent emerges softly from the clean pressed sheets you're sleeping in, as they have been washed with floral scented detergent.
