Armani Privé Bleu Lazuli

I came across Bleu Lazuli on my search for a good tobacco based winter fragrance, and I was absolutely taken aback by it. In a sea of turbo charged superambers and club bangers such as Side Effect and similar offerings, Bleu Lazuli represents a step back to a more restrained approach to an oriental. The scent opens with a hint of bergamot and a very clear mate note mixed with cardamom. Shortly after it's joined by florals and plum given this fruity tea impression. Once Bleu Lazuli in the dry down its all about the honey. The plum and mate persists, joined by a tobacco note and everything is backed by a very delicious and edible honey note. The tobacco is of the typical pipe variety as found in Tobacco Vanille and Herod, but rather than being front and center, here it's a supporting player serving to add depth and darkness, but never overpowering the composition. What really sets Bleu Lazuli apart is the compositional style. In todays market many sweeter oriental scents are exceptionally heavy with nuclear persistence. They can feel like a sledgehammer to the nostrils. Bleu Lazuli is a trip back to a time when perfumes had air. Air between the notes, allowing the composition to breathe and where the notes felt natural and not amplified. I havent written a review in 10 years, but after getting this - I had to rejoin and share my thoughts. For me this is what I consider a perfect perfume. Is it worth it over the more popular tobacco centric hypebeasts? Thats up to what one wants. But if you miss the older style of orientals and want to try one created with a modern sensibility then I can wholy recommend this.

Sophisticated, smooth, and suitable for year-round use: this is an excellent creation from Armani. It's not something you'll smell on just anyone, but it's not too niche that only overly pretentious fragrance nerds will appreciate and enjoy. It doesn't smell cheap; it's very well-blended. It's not a bright scent; it's actually kinda dark--but not overly. Really, it's more neutral. I got a tester for a steal on eBay at $145 or so. Some say it's feminine, but I think it's more masculine. While I'd enjoy it on a woman, it's more at home on a man. Take that with a grain of salt because I'll wear many rather floral fragrances that some men wouldn't. The longevity on it is pretty good. I can put it on at 7 AM and still detect it by 3 PM and sometimes even 7 PM, although with reduced sillage, which comes around the 5 hour mark. I've got this, Bleu Lazuli (edit: just bought this), Vert Malachite, and Rouge Malachite. Bleu Turquoise is of a similar vein only by bottle design and smooth, suave feel; they're 3rd cousins at best. Of the series, this is the most versatile. Vert is gorgeous and fairly feminine, but unbelievably loud. Rouge is elegant, lasts forever, and sexy. Turquoise is beachy-ish, kinda woody, and sophisticated--the most niche of them all. Then there's this: the all-rounder that ties together the collection thus far with smooth and wearable bliss. Overall, I think it smells classy, and if I had to choose just one fragrance in my collection for year-round use, I'd likely go with this because it's all season, office safe, both casual and formal suiting, and smells great! 9/10

I have the relaunched bottle with the square gold plaque bearing the fragrance name. Bleu Lazuli feels impeccably blended, almost to the point where the official notes disappear into one glowing accord. On paper, I know there is honey, tobacco, osmanthus, plum, mate, vanilla, and sandalwood, but on skin I do not experience them as separate pieces. The mate is detectable, giving the fragrance that slightly dry aromatic lift, but the whole composition gives me an unexpected and very specific impression of fresh nutmeg. Not powdered spice, but actual fresh nutmeg with all its warm, aromatic, slightly woody, sweet, and dusty facets. What makes this fragrance special to me is how seamlessly everything melts together. Nothing sticks out awkwardly, yet the composition still feels textured and nuanced. The tobacco here is especially beautiful. This is how tobacco should be used in fragrances. Not raw green leaves shoved into the composition for realism, but woven smoothly into the structure until it becomes rich, warm, elegant, and atmospheric. Easily one of the best uses of tobacco in the Armani Privé line, if not modern perfumery in general. Bleu Lazuli does not smell like a typical honeyed tobacco fragrance, nor does it behave like a loud amber. It feels polished, deep, spicy, smooth, and mysterious with a quiet richness that keeps unfolding without ever becoming messy. For me, this is a 10/10 and honestly one of the finest Armani Privé releases in the house’s history.

This is AHHHHHMAZING. This was a LOVE at first sniff. You know when you have a handful of samples you just ordered and your are so excited your finding different parts of your body to put each one so they don't mix and then you start writing initials on your body to label each fragrance? Of the 6 samples I tested my nose kept going straight to this beauty. Then you look at the label and realize dangit this thing is $$$$$ expensive so you try it again after it wears off and the fog of the other perfume samples weans away. Then you realize you can't stop smelling your wrist and you tell yourself don't panic let's give it another day of testing before you pull the trigger on a $340 (not including tax) bottle of juice. Of course, it doesn't help that the bottle is stunning and as a self-proclaimed and unapologetic lover of packaging whore who has been known to purchase things just based on presentation, I knew I was in trouble. This is very hard to describe and while my nose is not as sophisticated as other "fume heads" this reminds me of Sunshine Woman by Amouage. Maybe not cousins but very distant relatives. Blue Lazuli is more sophisticated, with a subtle sweetness not cloying candy sweet but creamy sweet, with a splash of pipe tobacco, and osmanthus. I love it from initial application to dry down. Full bottle worthy for sure.

I tried this today along with half of the rest of the Armani Prive lines. I was looking for a year round scent or two, and the SA suggested this and Bleu Turquoise. She sprayed them both on each wrist and I left to go grocery shopping while they settled. An hour later I popped back in and bought them both. I don't know what I was expecting when I read the notes but this exquisite, soft but lasting fragrance that's slightly sweet, with hints of exotic spices, really was not it. I have travelled to India myself and when I think of it in terms of a scent profile, I don't think of it as soft, I think of it as lush and vibrant and rich and actually this fragrance is all of those things but in no way overbearing or harsh. I ADORE it. I don't think it is the year round fragrance I'm still looking for, I'll keep this one on the shelf in the hot humid summers we have here unless it's a mild balmy evening. But Lazuli has such a comforting sweet softness that I would happily spray it on for an evening spent at home curled up in front of the TV as easily as I'd wear it out on a dinner date with my husband for it's gentle sensuality. 10/10 for me.

This is an enigma of a fragrance, it's supposed to be sweet and it is but also not. I feel very feminine wearing it while... if I am thinking about it it does actually smell more maskulin. It's a very light oriental with a heavy backbone. I can't detect the plum (I love and smell the plum in SL Feminite Du Bois) but I don't mind. It does remind me of a standart designer fragrance while having a strong niche quality. I feel like it's fine for spring wear although you could say it's a winter fragrance. I propably won't purchase the full bottle but I'm living my best life using the tester. Edit: Of course I purchased a full bottle. 50 mini ml for a tough price. The packaging is great but come on... I want to make it my everyday scent, which means my wallet is suffering big time. I need more spays than with other niche fragrances which sucks. Also the suggestion to buy on ebay... where does the bottles come from? Way too risky imo. For me the most outstanding notes are mate, vanilla and osmanthus. My overall sensation with this fragrance is: I want to take a bite of this fragrance. Hate how much I love this fragrance ))

I was not even eager to try perfumes from this line but then I gave it a try and it was an immediate love with this one. I came home with a small sample and could not stop sniffing it (I was not willing to pass it to my friend, so she would not use much of it haha). Anyway, desire was so strong that I bought 50ml. It is definitely unisex, maybe more male fragrance but I would say for men who use more sweet and sensual notes (honey&tobacco, sandalwood). I like that it is subtle sweet, mystique, sensual, sexy - it is kind of fresh scent which you can wear during sunny day but not primitive that you would call it "just fresh" or "just sweet". I think mate and plum gives it a certain edge and with vanilla you can never go wrong. I agree with some reviewers here that it has a certain "dark note" which makes this scent very much likeable for the day and night.

this. would seriously be the best the smoooooothest perfume ever no lie. the best smelling sweet tobacco ever!!! if only it was a little bit more masculine. but for me the first hour for sure maybe 2 hours is just a bit too feminine. and it makes me so sad because the far drydown of this is just perfection to me. i first fell in love when i sprayed this in a store on a strip. 4 weeks later i could still smell it. and it was just heaven but on the strip it was the best ever smell only after a full day. so for me it is really in the drydown. never did i smell anything so nice to me. just like i said if it was a bit more masculine. i wouldn't even mind paying full retail for this. if anybody knows of a way to maybe layer this with something and making it more masculine without losing any of the goodness i would be thankfull.

Opens with sweet fruits, spices and tea, and dries down to a floral tobacco with just a hint of honey and more fruit. A luscious plum although it also smells a bit of blueberry. Then it becomes powdery. It’s absolutely delicious. I love a complex scent like this when it works. It’s got so many notes it could end up messy, but instead it’s gorgeous. And of course the bottle is stunning as well. My only complaints are that on me at least, it became somewhat faint after about 4 hours. It lingered much longer but at that stage it was truly a powdery skin scent. And the price...it’s quite expensive, as others have noted. However this is signature scent worthy and would be money well spent. I feel this is completely unisex and for anyone that wants to smell really, really good.

This was an accidental purchase and wasn't even on my wishlist. I was going to order Bleu Turquoise and only realized my mistake after I received my order. But I must say, this was one of the best mistakes I made! haha xD This perfume is absolutely intoxicating in my opinion. I never knew I loved the smell of cardamom so much until I tried Bleu Lazuli. I can also smell the base notes pretty much from the start but they become more prominent over time. It is a beautiful creamy scent that is perfectly unisex. The longevity is pretty good as well... about 6hrs from my experience (FYI I don't overspray!) and the scent lingers on my clothes for a couple of hours more. I also have Rouge Malachite and Vert Malachite and Bleu Lazuli is probably my favorite from this line 😍❤️

💙💙💙 Stunning 💙💙💙 It's warm, exotic, smells expensive and beautifully unique. I recently purchased Magenta Tanzanite which I absolutely adore. So researched the rest of the line and found a lot of people rated this as the best Armani Prive in the stone line. I have to say, for a blind purchase I am not disappointed. I thoroughly enjoy the spice notes in this deliciously unisex scent. My nose seems to pick up on a licorice root note, even though this isn't listed but it could be the mate that is giving me this vibe. The crisp, zesty top notes are first present to the nose and last around an hour, then the dry down hits with an airy, light tobacco scent - which is absolutely beautiful. A true masterpiece. I. Am. In. Love. Solid 10/10

I just love this fragrance. Firstly the bottle is stunning and the lazuli color is so beautiful. I was tossing between this and Bleu Turquoise and ended up with the Lazuli one... After several wearing I found this to be so unique. It’s classified as ‘Dry Woods’ by Michael Edwards, which is so strange as it’s sweet not dry. But there is a dry quality from the incense, tobacco and woods. The scent is an enigma that feels multi dimensional. My first impression was that it smelt like a ‘blue’ designer fragrance but it’s so much more than that. You need to try it on skin.

Wow, this is beautiful. I immediately get honey and tobacco, long with something powdery and a hint of mate or herbaceousness. As it dries it becomes alot more powdery and the tobacco fades a little and it becomes a little more "floral" and sweet. I really don't know how to describe it except to reiterate that it's creamy, sweet and powdery. I honestly feel this leans alot more feminine than unisex, but that's just my nose (for reference I think Angel's Share is 70 femme 30 Masc). I just love it. It also wears close to the skin.

Initially, I was very excited to buy Bleu Turquoise. Until an SA made me try Bleu Lazuli, the test strip I had was literally projecting this scent and it began haunting me. I fell in loveeee, I don’t know how to describe this fragrance. I’ve never smelled anything like this. Everything is well blended and it definitely changes throughout the wear. It just keeps getting better and better. This is definitely one of my top 5’s for life now. I don’t think this is blind buy safe, definitely test before buying.

A nocturnal, dense, sweet, and magnetic fragrance. The opening is slightly spicy (cardamom and mate), but the true heart of the fragrance is an incredibly sweet and sensual accord of honeyed tobacco, enveloped by a plum note and a creamy base of vanilla and amber. It is warm, enveloping, and highly hypnotic. It possesses a rich, mature sweetness. Truly beautiful! Sillage: 8/10 Longevity: 7.5/10 Scent: 8.5/10 Overall: 8.5/10

It has the same concept of black orchid by that I mean it's pure ultra unisex and very dark and seductive However scent profile is very different.. Its very sweet apple I think cuz of the honey note.. With mate playing a background but obvious role.. It can't be worn I at day no matter which season its.. If you are looking for something pure masculine you should skip that one.. But its great scent all together

Wait... what???? Why aren't we talking about this perfume?! All the attention is focused on Rouge Malachite, but seriously, this one is by far the best in the line in my opinion. It's criminally underrated. I cant even described the scent, every ingredients melts perfectly together. its a love at first snif for me.

This changed my mind about unisex fragrance! I wanna wear it, but I also want to jump on a man that’s wearing it. There’s something nostalgic about it. An older era. The mood : Christmas Eve, it’s snowing, sex by the fireplace, in a cigar lounge with jazz music.

It smells so incredibly charming, appealing and clean, like a nice bubble bath. I find it to smell quite much like grapes and plums with a nice soapiness. I absolutely love it and can't wait for an appropriate occasion to put it on.

I love it. Most of people said its for winrer. but i think for 4 season and daytime. It is soft and smooth. unlike other fragrance of prive series its very soft and lightly sweet. all of them of serie is very nice and luxery.

How tf did yall vote this similar to uden? To me this smells smooth, well blended and sweet. In the realms of French Defence, swy Tobacco and similar warm fragrances. A really nice date night scent. It is overpriced though..

Probably one of the best in Armani Privé Line. The scent is addictive and a legit compliment magnet. 👌🏻 i recommend this for winter nights and date nights.

No, rosequeen didn't drop $310 for a bottle of this. Who do they think has that kind of money to buy a whole bottle? Not the super rich; they don't buy perfume, they "have" perfume. Are there really that many arrivistees in the world to support that many upper end fragrances in pretty glass bottles with plastic tops faking stone? But I digress. Yes, I'm hypocritical; if I had $310 laying around I'd buy an Armani Prive bottle too. Just not Bleu Lazuli. although navy blue is my favorite color and I have actual lapis jewelry and snuff bottles. rosequeen got a free sample yesterday at Neiman Marcus, after dousing herself with it before the salesclerk arrived. Boy is retail in trouble, even in my very wealthy town. You could have shot a cannon through Neiman Marcus yesterday at 3pm and not hit anyone except for very worried looking sales people. I'm going with most of Roge's assessment below. There is nothing really wrong with Bleu Lazuli; it's just not exciting. Truly not what I am expecting when I see the words "oriental spicy." It doesn't match what I'm expecting in the gorgeous bottle and the notes either. I see cardamom; tobacco, honey, sandalwood and vanilla and I think a strong rasping conquering fragrance. Instead it's those milder sounding notes that predominate: bergamot, plum, jasmine and osmanthus. At least it doesn't disappear. It lasted about 6 hours on my skin yesterday on a fairly good application. And it warms into decent scent at about the third hour. Oh, and the sample vial actually has a cap on it, and a microscopic black plastic slit at the top of the vial, and you rub the slit on your skin. I've never seen sample vials like this before. It's not horrible, but no way is it worth $310 a bottle, even in Rosequeen's jaded world of scents "worth the money."

Mate / strong, herbaceous tea vibes with some plumy tobacco from the initial spray! Then the ever so slightest touch of honey and a big hit of tobacco creeps up on you a few minutes into the drydown. Comforting, sophisticated, plumy tobacco musk through and through! Powdery in the drydown , which seems to be in the dna for this line. It leans more on the mature side in the best way possible! I thought I'd see some incense listed here, but that could be because of how in love I am with Bleu Turquise. It leaves a lovely scent trail, can easily be sensed from 6 - 10 feet away (friends mom gave me a compliment on how good I smell). I get about 4-5 hours out of it. It doesn't linger in the shower after a good scrub and for the price I'm kind of bummed , because I love this line to pieces :( I wish these were more "diabolical, in your face" type of scents. Overall very happy! Would consider upgrading to a full bottle when my 5ml is done :) The mood: A black denim jacket, a chilly night - maybe you're sulking in your room listening to early 2000s pop punk, maybe you're getting ready to go to a holiday dinner- you stole Bleu Lazuli from your mom's vanity.

This one is the most anticipated one in my Armani Prive cause I had to order it from the States. The scent is definitely something one has to get used to. It is not a smooth blend but blended well enough to make me wonder what that strong sweet smell was. Turned out it’s honey but not too distinctively honey in its own form. Cardamom is there too, almost as strong. Don’t know what that mate is so can’t really say if it’s in the blend but from the votes, it should be in there rather distinctly. Plum and vanilla are there in the blend too almost out of the periphery. So far I sort of like it but not too much. It’s still too complex for the time being. To me Vert Malachite is still the best from this collection. It’s so good that I started looking for others in the collection. But so far nothing come close to it yet. This one is sweet enough and I may come to like it more in the future.

I blind tried this at the department store expecting a blue fragrance. It starts fruity and really pleasant but then I noticed it getting deeper into more traditional cold weather base notes. It never really goes super dark as it maintains somewhat of a freshness. Honey, vanilla sandalwood. I was surprised to see tobacco in the notes but now that I know it's there, it makes sense. Performance seems average to slightly above in high heat, and on skin. Longevity is a 10 hours and I still smell it on my skin. This is really good and super versatile. If someone wanted one Swiss army knife signature scent, this would be perfect. It's not terribly unique (aside from being in a blue bottle), but then again, it is unique, because I can't think of anything else that smells exactly like this. Overall Solid 7.5/10 Performance 8/10

This is actually a subtle floral to my nose when first sprayed. However, soon I get quite a bit of plum and some of the spiciness from the mate and cardamom. I do not enjoy very sweet scents, which is why I skipped over this one initially. But I definitely wouldn't classify this as sweet, primarily. As this dries down, the plum fades into the background somewhat, and the tobacco and vanilla notes become more identifiable. This is definitely not as strong in sillage as Vert Malachite or Bleu Turquoise (which I own and adore), but it's not weak either. While the sillage is subtle, it is actually fairly long lasting. It's definitely not my favorite in the Armani Privé line, but I certainly like the bottle I have enough to keep it, wear it, and use it up.

This one is such a shape-shifter; it really transforms as you wear it. I wasn't the biggest fan of the opening and I was thinking it was a fragrance I wouldn't like due to the mate note, but I ended up loving it. It opens very floral and musky/powdery, and the mate note is VERY prominent in the opening lending to a slightly bitter, even sour, smell. Thankfully, the mate fades and the plum, osmanthus, vanilla, and a honeyed- tobacco start to emerge. The honey, plum, and osmanthus create a smell akin to marmalade, combing with the vanilla to create something delicious! Overall I find this powdery with a soft projection, but I could smell it on myself all day. IMO this is unisex, leaning slightly feminine in the early stages.

A thick medium sweet fragrance with a plummy, soapy, hint. Tobacco is there, but jasmine is prominent, too. It is quiet linear and a bit bland, nothing stands out in a big way, but it is pleasant. Like a mix between Feminite du Bois and Boudoir with some thick soapiness added, but I prefer those two by themselves. Stellar performance, I could smell this on me almost 24 hours later. Great sillage, people will smell it. I don’t think this has a gender. Not my personal style, but worth the price quality-wise.

Armani Bleu Lazuli (2018) - tobacco osmanthus - #pascalguarin starts the perfume with bright and fresh Bergamot and tobacco and tea like Mate. Into its development near the heart, the suede-like and leathery Osmanthus takes form. Combined with Pink Pepper and Tobacco leaf, give off a dry, tonka bean, and hay-like accord akin to Tobacco Vanille or Chergui albeit fresher with more citrus aspects. At the end of the fragrance, it progresses to give way to a woody Tobacco drydown. Versatile.

This is a decent fragrance. Opens up with a heavy dose of tobacco and plum, dries down to a tobacco, fruity scent with some green touches in the back and also some jasmine. In the dry down you also get incense and spices (spices and incense aren't listed on Fragrantica, but on the official Armani website yes). The incense and spices reminiscing a little of 'Serge Lutens - Chergui''. All together, this is a spicy fruity tobacco scent, sample if you like this kind of dna.

So far I’m testing this out, opening is a bit feminine not to much imo however on controlled weather when I’m not doing any activity it lasted around 7 hours, and when I’m doing errands or I’m active it only last 5 hours on skin, it smells delicious however it is a very intimate scent not a huge projection beast I recommend to spray on clothes so it can last an extra hour or so also you might want to do a couple of extra sprays, have a good one 🤘🏻

There is something very, very Coromandel about this, I don't know how, something about the sweet and creamy spice that dominates the perfume's body, not warm but slightly colder and almost gourmand. I'm also smelling a faint patchouli. Woodier than expected. I've tested a few from Armani's private line, the ones that were accessible in my area, and I'm loving every one of them. There's a unity in this collection, which is absent in most brands.

"ooooh..... this is good" I thought, as I applied generously from the bottle. It puts me in mind of some of the classic spicy scents of the 1960s and 70s. At times it almost veers towards chypre territory. It's unisex, yes, but perhaps slightly more masculine. To my considerable disappointment, it all fell away after about 2 hours. At the 3-hour mark it was all but gone. And at £240 a bottle, that's not what one should expect.

2024 Review: This fragrance is so pretty. Honestly sugh a wonderful harmony. And the honey tobacco dry down is comforting. Not long lasting at all for me/my skin type (combo dry). Low sillage; this sits pretty close to the skin. Despite the memorable blend, I think I’m paying more for the brand and packaging. Not worth the money to me.

Probably one of the best plum scents I've tried. Well blended I think, no accords stand out I think its well balanced. According to fragrantica honey is a prominent accord in this, usually one I don't often agree with- but I enjoyed it here. Cozy and warm, I thought I was picking up on a sandalwood accord but apparently not.

An opening of spiced & sweetened plum is supported by soft white florals. The dry-down is sweet - honey boosted by vanilla. I don't perceive much tobacco here. A feminine and approachable scent, perhaps overpriced. This stays close to the skin, but has good longevity. An elegant femme scent. Tobacco fans best look elsewhere.

Beautifully soft warm scent. The plum, matte and tobacco stand out more for me... with the tobacco coming across with the softness of a white tobacco (like the one in Amouage Sunshine) which I think helps this lean unisex.

Aromatic spicy tea with a fruity, slightly floral backdrop. Sweet yet zingy in the first hour. Good longevity. I find this to be unisex but it depends on your tolerance for fruity and floral notes.
