Figuier Eden

Worth every penny. I’m not a fig obsessive, but I own both this and Acqua di Parma’s Fico di Amalfi, and love them both. It is unmistakably similar to Fico di Amalfi, but there are some important differences. I won’t bother trying to assess which one is “better”, (again, I love them both) but Figuier Eden is certainly more sophisticated, complex, and office-friendly. It’s less juicy than Fico, and it doesn’t have that big apricot note in it either, but it’s more green (although, not too green), somewhat spicy, and almost aquatic without smelling like a freshie. Because of an excellent blending of notes, Figuier Eden smells both care-free and opulent - it’s flexible enough to be casual *and* elegant. The bergamot, pepper, and fig are all clearly present from the moment Figuier is sprayed, and like all of the other Privé eaux I own, Figuier Eden projects well and has stunning longevity for an EDT (as do the AdP Blu Mediterraneo line, if we’re continuing the comparison). As many other reviewers have pointed out, the fig in this fragrance is designed with harmony in mind, despite maintaining the feature role its namesake denotes. I’m not sure I’ve encountered that before, and I really like it (I’ve never tried Philosykos or Noble Fig). I haven’t found the iris in Figuier yet, but I do get the slight bitterness of tea, and the amber lays a nice foundation for all of the other notes without overpowering them and turning this into an amber-forward scent. To my nose, the real payoff comes after an hour or so, when a perfectly ripe (and not overpowering) orange rind comes forward to round out the overall scent and to help it gently radiate. The orange note comes on beautifully without crowding out or taking away any of the other notes, and although I’m neither a chemist nor an expert on fragrances, I can imagine that this is not an easy feat to accomplish, and it’s impressive. I see Figuier Eden as perfectly unisex and seasonally versatile. It can work comfortably for every season, although it would be a less-than-obvious choice for winter. I think this is a fantastic scent that is clearly worthy of all the high marks it receives.

"Figuier Eden" opens with a scent which is full of opportunity and optimism. Bergamot, mandarin and pink pepper imbue a sweet citrus blending with a faint hint of piquant spice. A strong scent of luscious fig comes rushing forth soon after. It is a pulpy, juicy, and succulent with a honeyed sweetness. Faint nuances of milky coconut facets are noticeable, evoking the creamy sap from the fig tree's stems. A verdant green quality dances in and out of focus via notes of green tea and fresh grass which to me perfectly capture the serpiginous bordered fig leaf. Beautiful Moroccan iris with its grey and powdery tonalities help to balance out the fruity sweetness of the fig. Its addition was masterful to me as without it I feel the fragrance would have fallen into the realm of too sickly sweet for most. The base is composed of amber and woods. Overall the scent seems well fitted to the summer months, but I could see the scent also being worn in spring and autumn. Slightly more feminine than masculine due to the fruity, sweet notes of the fig, however it can easily be worn by either sex. As with the rest of the Armani / Privé "Les Eaux" collection, sillage and projection are moderate to light while longevity seems to be somewhat above average. At least to my nose, Figuier Eden absolutely lives up to its ambitious name: it's fig-scented heaven in a bottle. Fig is my favourite note and I've tried and loved many quite diverse interpretations of it over the last few years, but this one must be among the very best. It's very high quality, very smooth - there's really nothing sharp about it at all, not a single moment when a note or accord seems out of place. The first few times I tried it, the combination of fig, tea and pink pepper reminded me of Bvlgari's Eau Parfumée Au Thé Rouge, which I also love, but that resemblance is there only very briefly in the early heart. Thé rouge is dryer and spicier with its red tea, and a lot less smooth than this one. Here, the the fig itself is more prominent, with its sweetness wonderfully enhanced and balanced by the green notes. The pink pepper is noticeable, but it doesn't jump out to make the scent spicy at all, it just adds a bit of depth, making the whole thing even more addictive. The only slight negative is that it doesn't project very well on my skin, but that can be remedied with a couple of extra sprays, and it does last all day. My wishlist is already overburdened, but I'm moving Figuier Eden directly to the top of it...I'm looking forward to spending the warmer months with it.

I will emphasize "On my skin..." because I am reading the reviews and don't understand whether we smelled the same fragrance. - on my skin there is no green grass nor tea (or a teeny tiny bit) - and it is not soft, fresh, fruity garden. But instead it is very sexy- in a shameless way, bodily, long lasting, spicy Madame Fig. Fig that is interpreted in a way Mugler did his Womanity, minus the salt and plus musk or ambergris. I was sure there was tons of ambergris, later I saw it is amber. Nonetheless, this amber is one hell of an amber. Here is the description from the official site: "Opening with vibrant top notes of citrus zest and pink pepper, Figuier Eden expresses a velvety green fig accord that softens into powdery Moroccan Iris notes punctuated by spicy mineral accents, finishing with warm notes of wood and amber." => I sense some citrus in the opening, pink peper, Fig, iris, spice (a lot), wood, amber. How that green grass and tea came here, don't know. Anyways, the notes are not important. What is important is how this juice behaves on my skin, how naughty, unique and brilliant it is. Instant love. High on my Wish list <3

I don't know what it is about me a fig based scents but we seem to be drawn to each other like some sort of fatal attraction. Strange really despite the usual feminine association. Interesting that the review below compares this to Fico di amalfi and naturally who wouldn't make the connection. However as somebody who has the ADP and loves it I must admit Figuier Eden is better. Not that I see this as 'high end' compared to the Fico in truth most of the Armani Prive line are pretty lackluster for the price. The opening of this scent is really good, fresh, juicy and bursting out of the bottle, with the addition of iris which to me really makes the fig pop! Fico is a little watery and subdued in comparison, to me more suited to summer, where as I see the Armani as being a little more versatile. The drydown of Figuier is more powdery and you definitely get the iris contributing to a longer lasting scent on the skin. The verdict is good...very good if you like figs you could do a lot worse than this but arguably better too.
