Iris Celadon

Iris Céladon is really intriguing. Every time I think I’ve smelled something like it, I lean in, sniff again, and am totally confused. As a result, I can’t stop sniffing my wrists to try to define it. In this way, the “Céladon” tag is perfect - as celadon is known for being “not quite blue, not quite green, not quite grey”, so goes the character of this fragrance. On my skin, the longevity and sillage are world class, and chocolatey patchouli jumps to the foreground, with iris serving a supporting role. I smell a little ripeness of citrus and spiciness (presumably from the cardamom) in the drydown, but not much from the other notes - at least not distinctly - and I’m not sure I really care. I don’t know how they did it, but the Privé team turned iris and patchouli into a dark, mysterious, and almost smokey (in vibe, if not in scent) signature-worthy gourmand that smells unlike any other iris-featuring scent I’ve ever encountered. Iris Céladon looks and reads as if it would lean feminine and be flower dominant, but after spending time with this fragrance, nothing could be further from the truth. I get the impression that many men will overlook this one, and I think that would be a mistake. This is another perfectly balanced unisex offering from Armani Privé that I could envision myself wearing anywhere, any time. Iris Céladon is easily among the classiest, most sophisticated patchouli fragrances I think I’ve ever smelled. I will definitely be buying another full bottle of Iris Céladon as soon as my current one runs out.

Beautiful and very interesting take on Iris. I bought a decant and in days hunted down a full bottle. That good. After first spray there was a nail polish type scent for a minute or so and that faded out and was washed over by powdered cocoa and crackly aldehydes which I enjoy. It’s zingy and dusty at once. Then it’s thick with a clean soapy musk and wood underbelly that rolls over and draws you in with a dusting of spices and tea/greenery. Comforting, warm yet cool and intriguing. This wears long and has a lovely sillage and decent scent bubble. Not overpowering in an office with aircon, yet still present. I walked into my own sillage a few times and it was lovely.

Iris Celadon is truly exquisite blend; graceful, balanced and strikingly unisex to my (male) nose. There’s a quiet sophistication in its composition, a kind of olfactory elegance that doesn’t shout but rather whispers its beauty. I often layer it with Cerchi Nell'acqua Iris Vanilla and together..... [Go West - IYKYK Village People LOL], they create a sublime harmony that feels almost celestial. This is not your typical sweet floral, it reveals its depth only to those with a refined and intuitive sense of smell. A hidden gem for the seasoned nose.

Very unique, either a love or hate fragrance. To my nose I get bright designer perfume iris and also rooty earthy niche perfume iris at the same time, all sitting on top of earthy patchouli chocolate. I love this. Although not white chocolate and does not smell similar to the divine Guerlain Iris Ganache I can see this filling the IG hole for those who love IG but are unable to get their hands on it. A must try for iris or patchouli lovers

This is a unique one. I can smell almost all of the notes, however the prominent ones are: powdery iris, rich chocolate and patchouli. Sometimes I get the same dna of Tom Ford’s Black and velvet orchid. It also reminds me of the smell of fabric stores where you can smell fresh fabric pieces. Weird, but accurate to my nose. Definitely worth trying, but it’s not a safe blind buy in my opinion.

Dry iris with some waxy and slightly nutty undertones. It has airy and fresh opening with a touch of aldehydes and spices (nutmeg mostly), while dry-down is about earthy and dark patchouli with a hint of sweetness. Wow, as a perfume collector I didn’t have anything similar to this one! It is unique, very dark and mysterious such as women in noir movies. It is a perfect match to Alida Vally in movie The third man! I love it.

Aldehydic iris, precisely executed, elegant and refined. Smells amazing, discrete yet being there, impossible to be ignored. More suitable for men imo. I only wish there was more iris in this.

a perfect pour of buttery moonlight on a still silent night

I think there is a great idea behind this fragrance. It meant to smell like something special and neutral. Not cold, not warm, not sweet, not sour etc etc. However it ended up in something I still do not understand after few days of testing and wearing. One of my friend asked what a horrible smell is in the room after the spray. Another one just said he does not like it at all. I can not say I like it too. It is a strange mix of heavy dusty stuff. I bought it half price. May be will keep it in my collection as something strange or for events when I will want to offend someone with my presence. PS: After sniffing it again and again I would say it is a essence of powder (or powder absolue). May be I should try to layer it with the light perfumes which miss the base. PSS: OK, I understood it, it is chocolate patchouli powder, hard to find. They say patchouli attracts money, love and fertility. So it stays in my perfume box. PSSS: I fell in love with it. It takes time. It is not one for daily use, but it is such a beautiful iris patchouli.

Iris Celadon is a complex, unusual scent featuring iris prominently without it being dominant. I am a huge fan of iris, so was keen to try this, and while it is far from an iris soliflore, it is an impressive composition. IC opens with peppery cardamom alongside bright aldehydes. It is quite discordant - even slightly off-putting - before mellowing into a softly sweet, powdery, rooty, musky scent. The iris is powdery and rooty, complemented beautifully by the powdery dark chocolate note. Patchouli follows, forming that magic accord with the chocolate note, adding herbal, green earthiness. The iris subsides, letting the chocolate-patchouli accord take centre-stage for the second half of this scent. The ambrette adds a sweet muskiness as it dries down, fading to a musky, powdery skin scent. Sillage and longevity are moderate, and it is a transeasonal, unisex scent. A deeply pleasant iris-chocolate-patchouli scent, IC is let down only by its strange, dissonant opening. A creative take on iris featuring a nice use of chocolate. 4/5.

This fragrance is very niche smelling, and perhaps very polarizing as well. If you're a fan of iris, you will more than likely love this bottle as its just overloaded with iris, with some other supporting notes. The scent starts off moderately sweet with very powdery smell from the iris, this lasts for about 30mins and the other notes like patchouli and dark chocolate appears to support the whole composition. Its a scent that is for personal private enjoyment more than for wearing to smell good. It does have some sort of a dirty smell which I guess comes from the patchouli. This is definitely suitable more for night time. The longevity and sillage and projection are quite minimal on my skin. Overpriced but definitely in the niche quality, unisex right in the middle.

Armani Prive Iris Celadon is a nice, classy unisex iris scent, a mix primarily laden with cardamom, musk, patchouli, and bergamot. Slightly spicy, fresh, and sweet, it leans mostly to the powdery iris without being overwhelmingly powdery. It has an air of sophistication and, like Armani Prive New York, seasonal versatility. It doesn't really strike me as a scent too weak for winter or too heavy for summer. Like New York, it leans slightly feminine but is quite unisex, and performance is good. Unlike New York, its pricing is very much in line with the rest of the line at $270 for 100ml. Very good but a "like" not a "love" for me, overall. Still, a recommended try from this line, show the range of Prive. 7 out of 10

I've smelled this yesterday, at least to me I've never smelled something similar to this, very unique but not in a weird way. Very powdery but the iris note is not so predominant like other iris base fragrances, I believe it's the mate and the patchouli maybe? I get a very airy, powdery feeling, it makes me feel good. Very romantic fragrance and smells very expensive also, I do believe this is perfect for women, it's also nice for those men who can pull this of.

this one starts out with a lot of iris and musk and some aldehydes, then the chocolate gets going. it's very powdery and musky, which i love. i don't seem to get any patchouli here at first, just a powdery iris/musk/chocolate cloud. then later after being on the skin maybe an hour i can sense the patchouli, but it's very soft. nothing overwhelming. i find this perfume soft and comforting, but it also has a coolness about it...celadon is an apt name for it.

Opens with bergamot in the mix, then Iris plus chocolate and patchouli, in that order. Becoming softer with more powder and spices in the base. Modern interpretation that reads sophisticated, in part, due to the light addition of aldehydes (thankfully). A quiet beauty with arms length projection, Iris Celadon doesn’t take any big risks. This is familiar territory and I enjoy it.

Buttery iris with a full dose of patchouli and a dusty/bitter/dry tea note. It doesn't really change throughout its life, only becomes closer to the skin. It's smooth and soft, overall an interesting take on iris and unique in my view. Scent: 7.5/10 Longevity: 7/10 Projection: 4/10

This is a truly elegant and unique fragrance. The iris is definitely the star of the show, but it's beautifully balanced by the warm spices, chocolate, and patchouli. It lasts all day and leaves a sophisticated scent trail. Perfect for evenings out or special occasions.

Bloody hell this is fantastic stuff. Patchouli bomb, like Tom Ford Noir de Noir...similar yet different. Definitely get the reference to NDN. This one is plasticy, waxy, chocolate, patchouli, dust. Smells like pure luxury, simply fantastic frag.

The best is when me and my couple both wear it at the same time, that’s when you realize it smells completely different on each person. I find it very subtle and close to the skin, this is what the word “expensive” smells to me

I always wondered how some people here detect a specific note in a perfume and either rave about it or despise it. Now it's clear to me. I get the lovely, buttery iris, it's perfect. I love the patchouli-chocolate combination, with its powedery and yummy warm note. But the one particular note that stands out to me is the mate. And this note, that somehow makes this lovely perfume smell like a bug repellent at times, is totally redunant to me. IMHO, this perfume would have been a far better one without it. I like it very much none the less, yet hopefully come wintertime the mate will be less noticable.

I'll say this perfume smells exactly like its listed notes to me. Iris - yes, there's a vague powderiness to the scent, but no strong iris note. Aldehydes - yes, but with the chocolate and patchouli they give this strange airiness to otherwise "heavy" notes. It's a chocolate + patchouli + iris bomb. Very interesting. It lacks the typical things you'd associate with iris - i.e.: clean, feminine, soapy, comforting. This one is a dark, sexy, mysterious patchouli-dominant fragrance. Interesting, but won't be getting a full bottle. Projection and longevity: Average

It's discountinued, so I held on to it for a year even if I wasn't sure how I felt about it. I'm a big iris lover, but I think the aldehydes and mate in here just make it weird (not in the good way). Opens medicinal /herbal almost minty in a way, then traces of iris show up, if you reaaaaally look for them, then settles into a non descript earthy scent. Notes don't seem to stick together, it doesn't feel like the sophisticated luxurious compositions of the Prive line. It's the odd one from the bunch and pretty unique.

I get the iris, tea, chocolate and patchouli. I think if you like Xerjoff's Richwood or Tom Fords Noir de Noir, you will like this. They are completely different scents but give off a very similair multi faceted, richness and deepth, with a touch of sweetness. Unisex but a touch masculine leaning. Might be suffocating in the summer. Very elegant indeed

Started off with an earthy play-doh vibe, but then changed quite quickly. There's a vague plastic note which persists and overpowers a bit, possibly the mate mixing with something, but overall, this scent is not what I hoped it would be. Definitely try before you buy...

I really like the opening! Fresh, boozy patchouli and iris. Unfortunately, this part only lasts like 30mins. The drydown is super soft iris and chocolate... and then it's just gone. I literally did 6 sprays on my neck and could barely smell it an hour later :(

Hmmmm the most prominent to my nose is Patchouli. I wouldn’t even thought it’s named after Iris. I did get the chocolate but the Patch overwhelms everything. Great sillage and longevity. More masculine to me but can be unisex.

Watery iris and boozy patch opening, fades quickly into a slightly stinky drydown. « Meh »

Oh now this one is quite special -- I think it'll go on to do well and be highly regarded. It's far from the bombastic fragrance that many scents containing patchouli can be, yet neither is it a wallflower, being gently assertive and persistent. I doubt it'll wow you if you're looking for a fragrance that makes a statement, but nonetheless you may well find that others say how good you smell and want to know what you are wearing. Iris Céladon smells both cosy and sophisticated. It has a modern and airy simplicity, but conspires to smell anything but simplistic. Bergamot and cardamom give a pleasant sharpness to the opening, and combined with the maté they create an effect not unlike vetiver. Soon the iris is predominant, approachable but not dumbed-down, buttery initially, then with a slightly soapy-powdery quality. It reminds me of the violet in Cuir Améthyste -- different ionone, same effect. The chocolate note is barely perceptible, but adds a dry, dark, cocoa-dusty note to the iris. Then the fragrance dries down to a gentle cloud of patchouli-amber powder, soft as swansdown, subtle but long-lasting. All in all, Iris Céladon smells quietly refined and expensive, in part because it is indeed elegant, but also in part I suspect because its aldehydes are done with a very light touch, enough to give a classical effect without being particularly noticeable in themselves. Above all though, Iris Céladon just smells really, really gooooood. Armani Privé might well be onto a winner with this launch.

If you went into this expecting sweet, delicious gourmand despite notes, descriptions, and reviews telling you otherwise - you wouldn’t like it. If you unbuttoned your shirt, beat on the chest hairs between medallions, and yelled “Beast Mode! I must have Beast Mode!” while hoping for that ubiquitous, cheap, bitter/smoky pretend oud note (also passing itself off as, variously, smoke, incense, spice, and wood but not being any of them) - you won’t like this. If you go into this wondering what a well-trained Nose would do with this Brief: ‘subtle, complex, elegant use of iris and cacao’ - you are going to love Armani Prive Celadon, a dry version of powdery iris that is - as is so rare - subtle. The patchouli is also subtle - an even drier version of the one used in Luten’s Borneo. The cacao? It makes me sad. It is perfect. Not one single off note; no rancid, no metallic, no motor oil. It is perfectly in balance; a dry, cocoa powder like the unsweetened cocoa powder used in baking. This isn’t foody. Armani Prive Celadon is a clean shirt; clean skin; a touch of soap or dry shaving cream; beautiful unsweetened cocoa. This being an Armani Prive, the notes stay perfectly balanced through drydown - no patch monster, gross bitter pretend-incense, no vanilla gobbler. This is stunning. It is beautifully packaged. It is really expensive.

Haven't met such a good Armani for quite a while and this is fantastic—intricate but lucid, retro in a most possible contemporary manner (who's the nose behind this I wonder), edgy still harmonious Here below is my impression on both my skin and blotter, in timeline order: In the first 10 minutes, the juxtaposition of aldehydes and iris is like a semi-matted glaze, gently painted on the main tones of patchouli chocolate layered with maté's green aspect. I enjoy the stage very much. The maté and patchouli reveals more of herbaceous characteristics (green, spicy & medicinal) and interwoven with the undertone of earthiness. As if one could appreciate the fragrant hologram image from each angle/direction and notice the contrast of dusty / powdery, dark / light, cool / warm and every shades in between. And then the musk wrap all the above and fades gradually until finally gone. To conclude, it is a fun journey all the way with chic opening, solid development and mesmerising end.

I feel in love with this fragrance the moment I smelled the sample from an Armani order. For me this perfume invokes a very incense like profile, wafting and drifting like such while evolving as time passes. Even after 2-3 days after wearing this I can still smell it distinctly on clothes. That can be a pos or neg depending on your viewpoint. More positive if you have partners that like smelling your scent on clothing. Most fragrances like this can easily be overdone, with one specific note coming out on top of all the others. And like others I believe this is one of the most sophisticated perfumes on the market for how balanced it is. While some may hold distain for the simplicity of the bottle design, I rather like them. They are simple, elegant without being gaudy or garish. The whole aesthetic from bottle to scent is about nuances, and subtlety.

Strong sweet and effervescent patchouli, with some subtle bitter mate in the base. Dries down into the most beautiful sweet and fluffy concoction of buttery iris, subtle chocolate, and a soft musk reminiscent of ambrette seed. Seeing all the recent negative reviews made me worry that this would be far too bitter or weird, but no, while it does smell quite weird and magical, it's still very much reminiscent of its notes, assuming you don't mind the powerful patchouli ofcourse. Considering that this is getting discontinued, it's worth noting that it has the same patchouli as Indigo Tanzanite, if you like that, you may like this. It's also not similar to Rondo Armaniano in my opinion. The opening is fresh and clean and in a few minutes it settles to a decent floral scent on my skin. Overall the smell that it projects is floral and very clean. I see people voted 'Patchouli' as the second prominent note behind the Iris. For me, it is more like Iris followed by Musk and Aldehydes; of course in the background there are some warm resinous notes which I think is the impact of patchouli and chocolate notes. I think 'Clean Iris Musk' would be a close description of this scent in words. The scent is very pleasant and more feminine to my nose. I can see a lady wearing this in the office or business formal settings. It is also more suited for more mature ladies in my opinion. Last but not least, I like the bottle design and the color of the cap is interesting!

This opens with an explosion of bergamot matte that gives a lot of freshness. The iris here is earthy, not your typical powdery violet-smelling iris. After about 20 minutes it turns into a very interesting chocolate-dipped patchouli. For me it is quite balsamic. It is actually a very interesting scent and it is unlike anything I have ever smelled before. It is completely unisex, I can't even tell if it leans more feminine, or more masculine. It is really addictive. The perfume has just arrived, I'm going to let it rest for a while to see how it evolves, but the first impression is very good. It is not a sweet pastry aroma, nor is it Gourmand, it is a dry sweet, very very interesting.

This is a one-trick pony, in my opinion, but the trick it does, it does well. All powder and sweetness, no bite. Longevity and sillage not super high on this, but it's still a nice scent. Maybe if they put something a little sharp in there, it would have more lasting power. I just had the Armani blotter tester. I'd get a bottle at the right price (maybe $120 or less), but there are many other offerings out there that are definitely better fragrances to be had, even at a tester bottle price currently. It's clean without trying too hard. It's pleasant, and you can't really fault it too much for what it is. Worth a test. 7/10 scent, 5/10 longevity, 4.5/10 sillage.

8:30 - opens dark and warm. A sweet, desserty iris and patchouli. The bergamot and aldehydes are there, but in the background. 9 - The best kind of powdery. I suspect this could turn "little old lady" fast, but man, I want to hang out with that grandma. 9:10 - Huh, it turned grampa instead. Almost immediately after I wrote the last bit, the patchouli and something else (the mate?) combined into a strong, classic, male scent. Well shoot. Second day in a row that one of my Armani Prive samples went hardcore dude on me. Sexy dude, sure, but still not what I want to be smelling like.

I was able to delay buying this one by getting Xerjoff Apollonia that is quite similar—like a fresher take. However, I had this in the back of my mind for a long time. I think it may be getting discontinued, so I found a bottle for an incredible price and am very pleased.m after years of revisiting my samples of it. Super suave and sophisticated scent. I think it’s best for cooler months into the Spring. Feels best to wear when clean shaven. I love the chocolate-type note; the whole presentation is just so smoothly blended. Full bottle worthy and safe to blind buy.

While I do smell the iris here, the patchouli is what seems to dominate, I feel that the iris powderiness just softens it a little. Like a light patch. Not really one if you're after the iris, and rather tame in my opinion, I was expecting much more of a beast from just the notes. Not getting chocolate, but it is rather gourmand more of a vanilla to me. I can't find any cardamom. To my nose this is: Musk + patchouli + vanilla, hint of iris with a moderate / low projection. Definitely nice but I would struggle to justify the price point.

crystal-like tender iris supported by an earthy, sweet, almost moist patchouli. its so sophisticated, shimmering with a see-through clean and cold powdery iris or giving a herbal glimpse of a green mate. and on top of that, absolutely gorgeous dark chocolate, dry and dusty. it doesn't step onto the gourmand territory at all, nor it is spicy. its sort of a patchouli-iris meditative, introvert and "slow" kind of scent, definitively one of my favourites this winter. dry (!) cold weather ONLY

A little iris, a lot of tonka and patchouli. I expected more iris. Still nice and comfortable scent for winter but I wished for more leatheriness from the iris Edit: as I wear on my wrist, I realize it's very similar to one of my old perfumes: Reminiscence Patchouli Homme, which is much cheaper and is a little more labdanum oriented. But the 2 scents are very close

I received a sample and have been enjoying it and if a smaller bottle was available I'd go for it... But the price tag is holding me back. I know it's for 100ml, but still. By the way, the sales representative old me that this scent would be discontinued. Can anyone confirm this? It's adding unnecessary pressure to my decision making...

I don't smell much chocolate, but the combination of patchouli & iris creates a plastic dough-like experience, very representative of the color in focus (neither blue, green nor grey). Quite interesting for an iris-named fragrance (less so if it was Patchouli Céladon).. Not bad :)

Actually a patchouli perfume ! The iris is very minimal here, the blend is absolutely beautiful but if you have a patchouli perfume you love already (like coromandel or Borneo by SL) you could just top it off with an iris perfume like Hiris and be all set. Very, very nice tho.

I tried this today in Selfridges and I wasn't too keen. I got an initial blast of patchouli, shortly followed by iris and musk. On my skin it smells like a men's deodorant: cool, fresh and clean, which is nice I suppose but I was expecting more.. The lid is gorgeous though!

I reeeally want to like this, but I get a strange fermented apple cider vinegar-y note in the opening... not sure if I got a bad bottle (purchased it second hand). It’s better later in the dry down but I can’t get over the negative association. Is it just me (or my bottle?)

I don't know at all how it happened and why, but on my skin it's awful. It smells so retro, intrusive, absolutely unbearable. I love iris, but I didn't feel an iris here. Among other things, I tried to wash it, but of course it got worse ... Terrible :(

The finer things, an austere yet cool vision, of subtle elegance,soft cool projection of lite iris gently tied to a masculine choco patchouli base, outstanding. Edit: 9/21/19. Buttery, almost like a super elegant amber,,, love it

I am not sure how masculine this is, even though it says 'for women and men' but once it is out at my local department store, I am going to want to sniff this. It has a lot of the notes I like in its composition.
