Pierre de Lune

This is a beautiful, simple, clean and light scent yet it has just enough depth, it's very unfortunate that it's been discontinued but it's one I treasure and use sparingly. It's unisex - not really feminine, not really masculine. But because of its lightness and smoothness, a woman would easily pull this off, but again I don't shy away at all, and my other half - she really likes it on me and on herself. The notes come together so softly, the iris is light and airy, and the woody notes give, the ever so slightest sense of depth, but it's more like a "watercolour" sought of scent if that makes sense, I guess a full-blown oil painting (lol) scent would be like a heavy iris chypre. All in all the notes - Iris, Violet, cassia and the woods notes blend together so well that you get something that to me smells a pear scent almost as if each of the notes shaped themselves and have each made it their mission to turn into or smell like a pear. The only downside is they could have actually added a pear note in this yes I know it's not a pear scent but it would really make it one of a kind, but it doesn't;t really need it, it's nice just as it is, then again I wonder what a pear note would do?. Other than that I wish the sillage would be a bit more, but when it's sprayed enough - you do get it to last a little longer but because of the rarity, I can't so it's quite a dilemma. But again it's a brilliant scent, unfortunately, discontinued - but again one that I will treasure. This would be brilliant for the springtime and the beginning of Autumn, and cool summer days depending on where you are from.

This has been a favourite for many years. I've hesitated to review it, because I'm not sure I can capture it's beauty in a few words. First of all, yes, it's expensive, and yes, the bottle is stunningly beautiful in my opinion. But it's the magic inside that captured my heart and keeps me coming back for more. This is a perfect balance of reality and fantasy. The woody notes and the warm cassia (and it is cassia, not cassis), a subtle spicy base, holding up delicate iris and violets but never overpowers. The violets and iris hold a central powdery stage, but never too airy or gone in a puff. The blending of the hard and the soft make for a lasting unisex scent. It's an all season beauty and it never fails to make me smile. It makes me feel feminine and warm at the same time. Sexy, nuzzly and unlike anything else I've ever worn. It's something I wish I could spray with abandon, but my wallet will not allow. I wear it when I want to feel pretty and pampered, or need a bit of fragrant courage to face a harsh world. *Note: it seems Fragrantia has corrected the cassis/cassia error. It's not a big deal, but the hot earthy cinnamon note has an important place in the layers of this fragrance. Cassis is/was a berry note - red or black currant I think - which smells of Ribena and definitely does not live in this grown up fragrance.

A very elegant perfume - slightly powdery but fresh and pretty. I thought there might be lily somewhere, or a white floral but not according to notes above. I do get the powdery iris/violet, but this also has a greeness, maybe due to violet leaf? It's calm, collected and ladylike though contemporary too, lovely for spring and summer. Someone below mentions it's cassie - acasia, not cassia (cassia being a cinammon note) I get no cinnamon here at all so I'd agree. I have a feeling that those who (like me) enjoy perfumes such as Infusion d'Iris and Eau des Merveilles might enjoy this. It has the same light elegance that's contemporary yet classic People have said it's too light, I find the sillage light to moderate, longevity quite persistent though, I've had it on for a few hours and it still very present. Later edit: a friend said this reminded him of Anais Anais! Which echoes my thought that it has a white floral feel. However, he did say it's more ladylike, less 'innocent and girly' than Anais Anais, which I happen to like, but find too girly for me at my age! So yes, Pierre de Lune is great for those who liked Anais but find it now too young and innocent.

Firstly, the cost... it's not worth it for something that lasts this little. The annoying thing is, I actually like how deceptively weak it is and how long it lasts. When I go for Iris scents, I don't want them to overwhelm me or go on too strong for too long. This doesn't do that. Pierre de Lune knows exactly how long to stay at the party, and departs with grace and elegance. It's perfect for staying at home and unwinding for me. Or just going out for a romantic dinner or lunch. Works better in the day time for me, during spring. It's a vaguely wooden scent that is dominated, however slightly, by the beautiful violets and ever so delicately powdery iris. Imagine if L'Heure Bleue had a baby with Apres l'Ondee. It'd smell nothing like this, but you'd see how they could be comparable. Just the perfect scent at a price that'll make it very hard for me to purchase it... however, I'll be glad when I do and it'll feel like more of an accomplishment. This is something worth working for. Very unisex and very beautiful. 10/10

April 2020 I love this. It appeals to me all year round. It is woodsy and floral in a very well blended balance, If I don't think it is appropriate to wear out for whatever reason, I always enjoy wearing it to bed. Its feminine, soothing, calming and snuggles worthy. I can live in this fragrance. I don't save it for only special occasions, I wear it casually often and for dressier occasions as well.. Its on my " top shelf." COMBO NOTE: I dabbed a few spots with Tom Ford's Noir Noir just for the heck if it. Ooooo. The combo is on a whole 'nother love. APPdL on chest and neck, TFNN on both wrists and tummy.

This is such a beauty It starts of with blackurrant leaf on my skin ,green almost a bit smokey, and lots of Violets mixed with this smokeyness makes its abit on the dark side ,Iris adds a little dryness and powder to it also the woods lingers and adds to this beautful scent. It stays this way for a few hours on my skin then it changes to a bit more sweet violett and iris scent, more feminin then the opening . This is realy unik and different then any other Violet and Iris scent i have tryed . This is also very long lasting on my skin and radiats beautifuly not to much but enough to get notised.

Hands down my favourite fragrance of all time. Smells incredible, as a man it is a tad on the feminine side but has enough masculinity for it to be worn by men as well. The violet and cassia just compliment each other perfectly, its flowery and delicate but punchy at the same time. Just gorgeous

Lovely woody, green and powdery iris/violet. I love it. It's very feminine and elegant. Soft and fresh, very aromatic and gentle. My husband particularly loves this one, Pierre de Lune, and so do I. It's so caressing and gentle, and comforting. Beautiful.

Perfection! I don't see how anyone could dislike this, not to say that it's easy or boring, it's just really really beautiful. Like some other people mentioned I don't know if many men would enjoy wearing this one. Magical :)

Despite the fact that I don't like that much the violets, this fragrance is really beautiful. It opens with a hit of iris and violets. I can't smell nothing else even hours after the first spray. Well...7/10

this perfume is my favorite and im using it since 2006. on skin after a few hours i cant feel it but on clothes it stays for more than 10h. i love it

The best lovechild of violet and iris. Also a less powdery and animalic version of PDM Athalia (even though Pierre de Lune came first).

I once worked a seasonal job in the Blue Ridge Mountains and this reminds me very much of a deep ancient mountainous forest, but not the masculine, newer, jutting ones - more so the ancient, worn and small rounded mounds, magical kind. Could also be the Black Forest? There was a time I was in the woods with some co-workers and I just fell asleep on the ground which the idea of would normally scare me or I would be too anxious for, but the mountains are so welcoming and nurturing, and this perfume brings back that sublime experience. This is the smell here, falling asleep on the damp green *mossy* ground in the dark with scattered little soft purple flowers & other tiny foliage characters, a quietly magic forest, but actually the moon is peeking through the deep green branches. Mildy, naturally sweet, but not candy at all. As much as I appreciate it, I don't actually think it is a safe blind buy for most (like some of the others in this line which feel almost too people pleasing and commercial) and I have no idea where I will wear it. I think I might try layering it on top of something, like the other user suggested (even though it doesn't feel thin by any means and has soft body on its own). Also the "wood" in here is not the kind that seems crisp or smoky or popular right now.

I bought a small sample of Pierre de Lune as part of my quest to find the perfect iris scent. It is a simple, subtle but beautiful violet-iris scent, but unfortunately, it is discontinued and is very difficult to find. PdL is violet-dominant from initial spray, delicate and photorealistic. The cassis is dewy and fresh, adding greenness up top - an inspired addition here. It becomes more powdery as it develops, thanks to the seamless inclusion of the iris, a classic bedfellow of violet. The iris is Chanel-like, soft and refined with just the right amount of powder. It becomes (predictably) softly woody and cleanly musky as it dries down, the central violet-iris accord lingering throughout. Sillage is intimate and longevity is moderate at a push. It is a feminine-leaning springtime scent for daytime wear. A pretty, delicate take on violet, PdL is good-quality if unremarkable. Equal parts green and powdery while remaining sheer, PdL is let down only by its performance. 3.5/5.

This is a weird one for me...but a grower. It's instantly powdery but silky smooth and beyond the normal realms of perfume for me. They say the most instant and effective trigger for memories is an olfactory one...well they're not wrong! Certainly Pierre de Lune is to me reminiscent of a very specific memory and it's of playing at a friends house. These two lads called Mark & Matthew (it's so odd remembering them as I haven't thought about them in over 20 years) who lived down the street from my mum but never went to my school. I used to hang out with them in the holidays and their house smelled 'EXACTLY' the same as pierre de Lune. Was it a type of fabric softner their mum used or an air freshener...or even a perfume? Anyway...It's a combo of sweet jasmine & orris root, with powdery floral notes which creates a creamy smell which in my mind matches the name and the coloured stopper in the bottle. Not sure I like this, it's certainly unique but I wouldn't wear it.

An exceptionally beautiful iris fragrance which unfortunately doesn't last longer than 3 hours, has weak sillage/projection and doesn't justify the very very expensive price tag. If you have the money, then buy it! I splurged and got it for my birthday but I won't be repurchasing it again. I would say a cousin of this fragrance would be Chanel 19 Poudre. Chanel has a similar iris, powdery vibe that Pierre de Lune has but more mature (in an elegant and elevated kind of way). Fragrance: 3.5/5 Sillage: 2/5 Projection: 2/5 Longevity: 2/5 If the projection, longevity and sillage was stronger this would be a solid 4.5/5 fragrance. However, it's weak.

On me, it's more woody-green with a touch of citrus, than strictly powdery. Non-sweet, refreshing woody-floral, smells unisex and expensive. Much better than the powdery mess of Cuir Amethyste, imho, but to each their own. If you are looking for a good iris-violet scent that doesn't smell like a lipstick, then Pierre de Lune is perfect.

First time, I smelled it, it was very very Gorgeous and Gracious Powdery Scent. remind me noblewomen. But today i smell it again, it's very dissapointed. lukewarm sweet scent, just little powdery. I don't know why changed my feeling SO MUCH. I just want to smell its Great Powderness again.

this one starts with a gorgeous dewy iris with a woody violet. later i get something almost sort of...creamy and dusty? it's hard to describe. the iris in this is just sublime. i find this scent comforting and kind of magical as others have said.

It could be me but this is exactly the same as CDG's Avignon, just less of "burned wood" in it. 9/10

Smells like hard candy. It leans a bit feminine. I like it, however.

I love it at first, sweet and warm but then it goes soapy. Alas.

I recently purchased a violet-centric perfume sampler set. I want to change out my usual go-to fragrances of oud, woods, resins, patchouli, amber, etc. with a few feminine-leaning fragrances, particularly those with floral notes. In my sampler, I tried Armani Pierre de Lune perfume because its listed notes placed the perfume at the top of my immediate applies. I don't have much to say about this perfume except it proved to be a MAJOR disappointment. Many folks who review perfumes seem to love this fragrance. And based on the ingredients & listed notes, along with the stellar reviews, I also wanted to love this much-hyped perfume. The perfume opening immediately disappoints with barely present, thin, wet violet (and iris, I suppose) notes that open weak and perform poorly. The opening violet & iris notes fall flat and are barely noticeable during the initial application. Middle performance is more "pale" floral notes with some woods, I suppose. And the dry down exhibits more weak, violet notes with essentially nothing...perhaps more unmemorable woods. I had to press my nose into my arm to seek out any fragrance, let alone a pleasant one. With average (at best) notes, poor performance and zero silage I could never justify the asking price for this fragrance. I believe this perfume fetches upwards of $300 USD for 100 ml. Seems ridiculous. Sadly, a serious pass.

When Isniffed the spout,I like it immediately,it's floral and beautiful,can't wait to wear it as soon as fast. When I really try it ,it confuse me:What?How come it just smell like SOAP??? I used it on my skin and cloths,keep sniffing again and again,tried to find something I like in this perfume,it end up with I feel myself in my tub,with some rising bubbles :-( It totally fade away on my skin in a few hours ,guess it's my high temperature effect on it.It become not so soapy on the cloths,a bit green and natural.Though the last note is good ,it doesn't compensate my sufferring from soapy smell for hours . I want to rate it 6/10,considered it's Armani Prive with extremely pricey,it's a 5/10. Now I call it SOAP CLASSIC lol :-)

Love the name of the fragrance, but the scent did not live up in any way to what the name conjured up...This opened on a loud, brash note of purple-grape candy, which lasted long enough for me to consider an alcohol scrub. Eventually, the dry-down revealed a much smoother, vaguely powdery violet-iris note. The dry-down is nice, but no more than that, and would certainly not be enough for me to live through the first part of the experience.

I got lots of violet and no iris. On me, this creates a subtle "lipstick" note, and it reminds me of L'Artisan Drole de Roses, without the rose note. Very nice, just not for me.

Thanks Sara! I was trying unsuccessfully to find the cinnamon. On the Armani beauty website, however, they do indeed name the ingredient as Cassia, not Cassie. I have emailed them for a clarification. I do agree with Veruska that it is flat in a way, as Iris-focused scents can be (Think of Hiris by Hermes). In this simple, dowdy, and decidedly unisex scent I find Violet Leaves, powdery Violet Flower and Iris (I note Iris only in the form of Orris, the aged root used as a fixative; I get no fresh Iris). Orris can create a soft powdery floral, as well as woodsy fixative notes. I do not classify this a a Floral scent in modern terms. The Armani site deems it "Sensual, Floral, & Woody". It is a little dreary, but very comforting, like a rainy day. Interestingly, PdL's drydown is eerily similar to a bottle of vintage 40s Narcisse Noir pure parfum that came in a coffret I received as a gift, although the two bear few note similarities. As one of the last Armani Prive's I tried I have to say that I was oh so pleasantly surprised! What a wonderful and whimsical fragrance to dedicate to the moon! Pierre de Lune is quite multi-facetted despite the constant references to 'clean soap'. It definitely has a French soap aspect to it but it has oh so much more going on than just soap! I detect all of the following in no particular order (than what my mind has naturally ordered them in) grass, violet, iris, cinnamon, talc, jasmine (or something similarly just as indolic!), and of course a type of ambergris or similar. This is the best darn white soap smell that I've ever had the pleasure of smelling!

I remember this one, as my favourite from the collection. Pretty surprising how simple the list of notes is. Actually I am a bit sceptical that there is no other wood or green elements in it. This one is a magical and one of a kind woody iris, I literally cannot compare to anything. I am afraid that this is exactly the reason why it is discountinued. It has a character and really was something else in the cathegory of woddy powdery scents, with a wild and raw but also creamy and comforting vibe.

Armani prive fragrances are not like Tom ford private blend collection which i prefer As a niche house for uncommon fragrances. I can't deny that there are two scents From Armani prive collection blended very well And they are unique fragrances like pierre de lune And cure amysist , I have sniffed Pierre de Lune At Harvey nicols today and it was very comfortable Scent and I can call it "the heaven scent ",light, Bright and elegant at the same time. My rate is 9/10

This fragrance is a lovely but too simple powdery iris-violet with basenotes of woods. There is nothing really special about this scent to elevate it above Balenciaga’s or Guerlain’s famously beautiful and chic violet-centered scents. It lasts well. It’s nice but I don’t think it is worth the 260 USD retail price which I believe summarizes the Armani Privé line: all nice scents but none original in concept and not worth the money.

I really like this. It is somewhat similar in the iris note to no 19 poudre and infusion d'iris but there is something more round in there too. I know I should love 28 La Pausa, Inf d'Iris and their likes,, but for some reason I don't. This one I like. And as could be expected, this is clearly the most expensive of the bunch...

The first thing I get is Neopol, the furniture polish, but as with many utterly fabulous perfumes the opening belies the overall fragrance. I am a novice when it comes to Iris and have yet to try Hiris, although it is on my list. Pierre de Lune is lovely but I don't enjoy it as much as Cuir Amethyste or Eclat de Jamin.

I love this fragrance!! Soft, woody, dreamy... It is polite and never loud, but not shy either. Sillage is moderate which then turns into a skin scent after about 4 hours. Longevity is at least 6 hours on me.

My favorite since many years. Really comfortably to wear, melts into my skin, there are no single note which annoys me. Just perfect. Sexy and expensive. CAn not really imagine how it smells on men.

I honestly just love this fragrance! As someone else mentioned this is definitely a less powdery version of Athalia by PDM. I love scents like this, it’s so beautiful ig just mellows me out!

This was and is one of the most endearing iris/violet concoctions ever. I never forgot how it smelled! It's stuff angels would wear, if they'd care to wear perfume!

A very soft, delicate, pretty iris-heliotrope-acacia accord. Too muted for me to want to invest in a bottle, but well-crafted, like a tiny, perfect miniature.

A very flat and boring iris mimosa combo, made in a sweet green way. It's extremely pricey and extremely bland!

This fragrance is a lovely but it's too weak. I wish it would be more intense...
