Rose Noire

I'm glad this is now in the database. I really like this one, much more than Rose Noire for women. It's been a few months since I last wore it, so I can't remember the details (and I can never accurately identify notes anyway) but my impression is of a fresh green rose with light dry woodiness and just a little soap (but nice soap). Not strongly masculine, but definitely not too feminine. Watermelon is a listed note--I would not have guessed; usually when any melon, cucumber, or aquatic note is listed I end up smelling raw pumpkin, but not this time. I didn't love Rose Noire for Men enough to sit down right away and order a full bottle, especially when I have so many other fragrances, but I would definitely get it if I come across it at a Marhalls/TJMaxx.

I got this as filler for an order, an opportunity for yet another cheap blind buy adventure. Normally between 20 and 25 bucks, this one site had it for 10, and then recouping shipping fees, I basically got it for 5. Presentation: Nice box, classic font and colors. The bottle itself has a nice matte blue glass. Same font as on the box. So-so finishing on the underside of the sprayer. And an absolutely hideous plastic silver cap. It ́s big, it ́s ugly, it ́s the floppy cheap type of plastic, and it has this little dot on top where the plastic was poured in the mold. Not for showcasing this one! Smell: What I smell is this soapy, rose scent together with green notes. These green notes are of a fresh, watery type and make it interesting. It also outlasts the other two. Versatility: I think of this as a fresh out of shower scent. A lazy weekend type of stuff, when you are enjoying leisure time with your loved ones. Maybe after a late shower to retreat on the couch. Unlikely to offend anyone, maybe your girl will enjoy snuggling up to you and your fresh, sweet and soft aroma. Not for clubbing, formal events, or work I think. Age group. Middle aged. I miss a little sharpness to address younger crowds. This fragrance does it ́s own thing and is quietly unapologetic about it. I think a woman could wear this fine as well. Fairly unisex. It ́s not bad, but certainly not a head turner.

Some reviewers on another site said there was a berry-type note here, but I don't get that. It's clearly spicy, and I'd guess there's a mild wood note too. Presumably, the "green notes" and citrus generate a little sharpness, but thankfully it's not too much and this is natural-smelling, despite the watermelon note (which is why I hestitated to buy this "super cheapo" for a long time). I smelled the watermelon when I sprayed on a card, but I don't really get it when sprayed to the chest (it might be getting subsumed, so to speak, by the citrus and green notes). I don't get much rose, but it's only been about 20 minutes since application. The strength seems to be in the good to very good range, and if there are any new developments I'll update. Overall, it's reasonably complex and dynamic scent that's certainly not exactly like anything else. From my memory, it's a bit like Carlo Corinto Silver. UPDATE: Second regular wearing, it's candied sandalwood with some spice and a touch of rose, probably meant to be similar to Candies Men. Obviously not "mature," but I find it interesting enough to consider wearing it once it a while. There's nothing too synthetic or unpleasant about the drydown.

It smells very “90s”. Like those “first generation” aquatic molecules.
