Rose Noire

I discovered this through a lady with similar taste on a perfume forum, she was telling me Giorgio Valenti Rose Noire is similar to Brosseau's Ombre Rose, and it's fantastic, and it's dirt cheap... I do notice a lot of similarities between the two. Chiefly that lipstick type of rose note, sandalwood, and the buoyant cloud of iris powder. Off the bat, I will say Ombre Rose has substantially more of those soapy, musky, baby powder touches to it. It has a smoother and more refined texture; Francoise Caron's ingenious velvety, plush, silky nuances... It's a much lighter and "prettier" perfume. To my nose it's firmly in the soft floral aldehydic category. My initial impression of RN: it's almost as though the perfumer thought to add a few drops of Agent Provocateur to Ombre Rose. I notice the geranium in the top, as well as the strange rubbery, vinyl smell others have commented on. Rose Noire is deeper and huskier, it has a more woody, rooty, leathery, earthy, dusty, ashy character. Orris, rosewood, vanilla, and vetiver. As I wear it, I smell more of a chypre structure in the base. Subtle amber as well as the synthetic oakmoss counterparts. The bottle is nothing to look at, but it cost me $10. Judged solely by their respective scent profiles, I somewhat prefer Rose Noire to Ombre Rose. Both of them are exceptionally beautiful and inexpensive perfumes. I'm glad to see I'm not the only person wondering who on earth Giorgio Valenti is. Here are some treasured snippets from the brand's Fragrantica page: "Fragrances for men and women are offered under the Giorgio Valenti brand, whose motto is, "Be different."" "Parfums Parour is the parent company of... Giorgio Valenti... and holds the licenses for fragrances created for... Pinky Girls, a line dedicated to Japan's "elegant gothic Lolita" fashion-lovers." Goodness. It's still a mystery as to who Giorgio Valenti is, but now we can infer that Rose Noire is among the choice perfumes of Japan's Lolita subculture. I really like Rose Noire PDT. Is it chemical smelling ? Is it more cold, metallic as opposed to warm and creamy ? Overpoweringly synthetic ? Intensely powdery ? VERY vintage style ? YES, especially with the first spray. I can easily understand those who don't like this perfume because it seems to overpower with an intense, dark rose dusty metallic powder. Every time it's sprayed, it is somewhat overwhelming...even chokingly dusty for some people. No doubt about it, this sprays on very strong, and takes about an hour or more to fade and settle into a soft skin scent. I also agree with the review by sheridanellis.....adding Coty Vanilla Fields to this fragrance does calm it, making it more creamy, soft, and more wearable for some people. Still, I find Rose Noire intruiguing all by itself. It definitely has a modern metallic gothic vibe. Not meant to replace true vintage perfumes, Rose Noir is a modern synthetic version of a classic vintage STYLE. I sprayed this perfume on at dawn one morning. For me, Rose Noire lasts more than 12 hours, with strong silage beginning to fade after about 2 hours. Still, it remains soft, detectable close to skin, in hair, and on fabric well into the next day. It's a wonderful bargain price, too ! Yes, there is a note of cinnamon....soft cinnamon, no doubt synthetic "cinnamyl ", that is noticable all the way through the drydown. Overall, I find Rose Noire super powdery, a soft sweet dark rose, softly spicy. Though Rose Noire is made with modern synthetic ingredients, I find it most comforting and pleasing to wear when I'm in a vintage mood.

At first I did not know what to think of Rose Noire. It seems to be always full of surprizes. I sprayed it first on paper and smelled nothing. I thought oh no!this has no scent, so I wondered if the warmth of my skin might help. I sprayed on my hand and again, no smell, what a disappointment, then about ten minutes later I caught a whiff of something totally unexpected. Leather, coming from my hand. It smelled soft, buttery and expensive. It smelled like an expensive leather handbag from Coach or Etienne Aigner. New leather. After about a half an hour later the florals came in and smelled wonderful. Rose? perhaps, but spicier, more exotic, darker,sultry, more mysterious. The dry down was really unexpected,powdery,soapy,and intensely feminine. It still had the soft leather with a touch of spice in the back ground, but just a touch, and after a couple of hours I can detect a little vanilla. It seems to last a good while, after having worn it for two or three hours last night my husband ask me what soap I had been using. Now Rose Noire is not a loud perfume,it is very soft,and wears close to the skin. It is not a perfume that shouts, it whispers, but it whispers beautifully. Like many chypre floral perfumes it seems to change totally though out it's being worn,from sophisticated,to charming,to clean and even a little powdery. I bought it blind from overstock.com,for very little money and I got a great bargain. I am going to enjoy this new fragrance,which is very unique and different.

Dry powder all the way! I love iris and rose and oakmoss and sandalwood. LOVE. But although they are here and add a touch of loveliness, it is really about very arid, old fashioned powder. More powerful and less sweet than Ombre Rose (which is also not very rosy), but quite similar. If you enjoy Vintage style boudoir powder scents, Rose Noire is an excellent value which will make you happy. Ombre Rose is quite light by comparison. Neither of these is a rose lover's blind buy, however. Did we mention I love powder? Generally I like my powder a tad less dry than this, but arid powder is perfect for hot weather. Think Grandmother's scented talcum powder, for feminine use before powder was proclaimed unhealthy for women's hygiene! Personally, I will be wearing this scent as body spray during the dog days of summer. It's the perfect use, taking me back into another era - safely. ;) Update: I'll also enjoy by layering with Pink Sugar! A tiny bit of Pink Sugar will add the sweetness and pink-ness Rose Noire utterly lacks. <3

A Velvety Black Rose... I've been trying to figure out what makes this rose "Noire", and I can see why it's been compared to an ombre rose: in the opening, the powderiness evokes an ivory rose or translucent talcum powder, but as it's drying down I get some slightly leather-y tannic notes that are distant reminders of scents from the Shalimar or Habit Rouge ranges by Guerlain, although this isn't an amber scent and resins are dialed a way back. As it's drying down, it acquires a vanillic sweetness, but this isn't overly sweet compared with modern scents. Geranium is there which supports the floral tones of the rose and keeps it from drifting into baby powder & bandaids. The soft buttery leather-tannic notes do remain for the bulk of the wearing experience (perhaps from the iris?), but are muffled by the powderiness of the iris in a soft & delicate way. The effect when I stand back is in fact a velvety black rose. Amazing. It's a love for me. Enjoy!

I bought it unsniffed, based to the dark and dusty rose reviews, i wasn't disappointed at all. It smells a lot better after an hour. Other than that, I smell vanilla and vetiver, while rose is subtle to me. For the unbeatable price, it's a nice everyday perfume that one can use everywhere but not the 'expensive' smelling perfume (then, many really expensive perfumes don't smell 'expensive'). It's not heavy and not light either. Suitable for all ages IMO, elegant and feminine but not 'loudly' speaking, it can be worn in the office without making the others avoid you, at school, at a coffee gathering and in many other everyday occasions. If the rose smell was more intensive, the overall impression would be much more retro and chick. ADD: After many hours a smooth and soothing vanilla stays on the skin and lasts till the next day. My clothes still smell of this perfume and I put it on three days ago. I guess you get much more than what you pay for.

Stumbled upon Rose Noire Eau De Parfum while searching for rose perfumes on FragranceNet. Inside this gleaming onyx bottle is pure sorcery! Giorgio Valenti's masterpiece is achingly beautiful: iris blossoms and rose petals paired with heliotrope. I also detect a hint of almond pastry similar to the delicious gourmand note in Guerlain's L'Heure Bleue. Initially, Rose Noire's sillage radiates (at least 4 feet), but 15 minutes later, the composition quiets to a lovely level. It's soft, inoffensive and would be appropriate for office wear. This rose is comforting, sensual, and familiar --envelops you like a favorite cashmere sweater. The best part is it is incredibly inexpensive!! Overall, Rose Noire is linear but exquisite. Longevity is 9+ hours. RUN and order a bottle! You won't be disappointed! :)

To start off yeah this does smell a lot like Ombre Rose and yes it does scream 1980's. Especially that awesome bottle. High gloss black with a pink rose. The difference between the two is it's missing the aldehydes and fruits so it takes away from the sweetness. This one is also a bit drier and earthier with a hint of original dove soap. Also reminds me of when I was a lot younger and Id go in my mom's purse to get a stick of gum. Her purse kind of smelled like this. Probably the makeup, tampons, sucrets, bandaids, asprin, utility bills, checkbook, wallet and money she had in they're. Ohhhh moms and the crap they pack in they're purses lmao.

Wow, I'm so impressed with the radiant nature of this rosy powder scent! So pretty and feminine. Some boudoir vibe, I'd say bright rather than dark to me. Really hope the longevity is good, big like could become a love! Update, another wearing, enjoying the sandalwood note too! Longevity seems decent also. I marked this one as a love! Note: They really should have a dusting powder of this scent, that would be perfect. Another note: I see another fragrance called Rose Noire Emotion, not in database. Beautiful bottle, quite curious about that one. Possible blind buy.... 😄

Lovely elegant rose/woody/musky/powdery fragrance. I'm not normally a huge fan of rose fragrances, however, Rose Noire is an exception. I pick up a *hint* of amber, iris and sandalwood too. Very nice non-offensive fragrance with quite good sillage too (at least on my skin). Rose fragrance without the "old lady" label I would normally attach to rose-based fragrances. I get none of the 'chemical' fragrance others have reported on (and normally I'm the first one to pick up on a chemical-type smell). I'll be wearing this one quite often I think!

I saw this bottle on Jack's Instagram (@paglianaroma) awhile back, so I had to give it a try. Lovely powdered masculine rose. It has been many years since I have smelled Jergens Cherry-Almond Original Scent Lotion, but when I smell Rose Noire I am reminded of it in a small way. Who is Giorgio Valenti? Inquiring minds want to know.

This fragrance is Ombre Rose on steroids, which is fine by me since I love Ombre Rose. If you like fragrances with powder notes then you will enjoy this fragrance. It's a powder overload with hints of wood and rose notes peaking through. I find fragrances with powder in them cozy and comforting on a cold day by the fireplace.

Sharp, dry rose that certainly lives up to its name. Dark and powdery with no sweetness, but in a face powder way rather than baby powder. This often gets compared with Ombre Rose, which is pretty in a nice, polite way, whereas Rose Noire is femme fatale. One of my favourite rose fragrances to wear for winter evenings.

I love this Pink rose And strong lovely powder! Other flower notes!! I add a sweet perfume or oil to balance Long lasting and quite original. I'm glad I added it to my collection.

This is Miss Daisy (from Driving Miss Daisy) in a bottle of perfume. Sweet, elegant, and lady like but also tough as nails. A lovely chypre.

I like this very much it is like a Johnson's baby powder for older people it smell alot like Shalimar Too with an edge

Wow! To be honest, I did not expect Rose Noire to be in this database. I'm so happy to see it--it definitely deserves to be here! This fragrance is a soft, POWER HOUSE--if that makes any sense, lol. It is a subtle, long-lasting fragrance that--in my opinion, is appropriate for every single season, time of day, and activity. With that said, you can wear this to Walmart, happy hour, brunch, or a wedding. It can be worn in a snow storm or at the pool. Rose Noire is ultra-feminine, with a touch of cleanliness, and lots of powder. I had never seen or heard of this until very recently. My husband and I went to an outlet mall in Michigan City, Indiana around Father's Day to do some shopping for him. He actually smelled it and liked it. I thought it was very nice too--so we picked it up. I wore it yesterday for the first time, and enjoyed it. To my nose, it is true to the initial sprays and changes little in the dry down. Also, My nose does not pick up all the notes listed above--which, in my opinion is compliments to the blending process. My nose picks up big rose, amber, musk, and a touch of bergamot. Longevity and silage are great in this, as well, along with a great price point. If you're in the market for a feminine, powdery rose--this is a safe blind buy!

A nice perfume friend that I have met on this site sent me a sample of this really good inexpensive perfume. Rose Noire is really giving me Lutece by Dana vibes but it's not a dupe. Lutece was my best friend in high school signature perfume, and I even had a bottle of it back in the 90's. I ended up giving it to her because I just felt kind of guilty wearing it. I will always associate that perfume w/ her. Rose Noire starts off really powdery, a nice soft rose dusting powder. As it goes along you get more Iris powder coming in, slight oakmoss. This is such a pretty make up bag scent. And I can't believe it cost such a little amount of money! Seriously this is way better than really expensive iris/rose make up powder perfumes I have smelled from way more expensive brands! If you want a makeup powder scent that will not break the bank, give Rose Noire a try. Beautiful dry rose and iris. Edit: 8/10/22 When I first wore and tested this, I was so impressed w/ how this becomes such a lovely dry rose/iris dusting powder perfume that I forgot to mention this has a nice fresh spicy geranium scent in the top notes. The vetiver here is noticeable but not overdone. If you love powdery scents like I do pick up this very inexpensive beauty.

My experience: I wore it all day. No, it wore me. It is intense. My son (age 14) said, " it smells like it is for an old person". When I asked him to expound upon that, he said, " it doesn't smell bad, it smells good....just "old"." That is out of the mouth of a teen boy and I understand what some people are trying to express when that phrase is used...not meant to offend but just provide a mental demography for reference. This needs warmth on my skin. When I need warmth I instantly turn to my Coty Vanilla Fields. I added a squirt of that to my arm with the Rose Noire and it became instantly more comforting, rosey....lovely. I can wear them together, but Rose Noire is not my cup of tea. There is something cold, strangling and metallic about it as a lone star scent. Nonetheless it is intriguing enough to me to keep around to test throughout the upcoming seasons...perhaps the summer sun will change the composition on my skin.

This was exactly what I thought/hoped it would be. I imagined a toned-down, rougher/cheaper version of Putain De Palaces mixed with the pink ‘April Fresh’ Downey fabric softener and the pink ‘Powder Soft’ Dove deodorant. I don’t think there’s any actual rose in it, it’s more like geranium with citronella and a rubbery note with powder. I wore it to work today after spraying 10 sprays on my body and another 10 on my neck and my colleague told me that I smelt like clean baby nappy/diaper. Then I had an allergic reaction to it (with red and itchy skin) and had to take an antihistamine (I know I sprayed a lot but didn’t feel I’d over sprayed as it’s quite light) - I’ve never reacted to a fragrance before. So I won’t be wearing it again but had fun while it lasted.

I just received my bottle in the mail. I picked it up from Overstock.com for a SONG. I sprayed two small squirts on the inside of my wrist and POOF. WOWZERS. This is strong heady liquour! I will have to update you later on my final opinion, but for now I think this is not dark, per say, but deep. Not deep, per say, but lush. I don't know about the "Love's Baby Soft" comparison, but can see how that could translate on some skin since there is so much of a baby powder tone to this. I scratched my eye with my contact lens last night and can barely see today. This is interesting since my scent sense seems to be heightened incredibly! An interesting and complex perfume. I am anxious to see how it settles!

Many people say Rose Noire smells “Old” and “Stale” like a sad and lonely widow, but I don't find it that way. I see this as a Black or Dark Red Velvet Rose, it is no longer fresh and a bit wilted but still very beautiful. When I spray it, I imagine the scene of an old house or room in a forest, slightly dark, the scene inside with warm and classic wooden furniture, vases of dried Roses on the table and heater. Very suitable for ladies who follow classic, nostalgic styles like the retro style of the old decades. Overall, I like it even though I'm not a fan of powdery Rose scents. Rating: 7.5/10, released a long time ago but not old. Suitable for a gloomy day

I also stumbled on this one at Fragrancenet. Reasonably priced, I thought I would give it a try, The box design and branding somehow reminded me of an old Lancôme advertisement, and I wondered if this was deliberately done to channel Magie Noire. I didn't open the box for some months since I bought it, but SCBohemian's review tempted me to investigate what I had purchased. I totally agree with her review, it's gorgeous and dreamy - it reminded me a little of a softer, slightly muskier Ombré Rose, the '80's version. It lasts at least 9 hours. Great buy, I would have no hesitation wearing this anywhere (as opposed to some I keep for personal use only!)

This is a very dark dusty rose floral scent. Somewhat reminiscent of Habanita with the dusty darkness but with more rose floral trailing instead of leather. Reminds of gothic and mystery (gothic dusty spooky mansion feel) but has a chemical "ness" also. The dustiness lasts forever on my skin but the rose or floral chypre becomes more prominent and sharp after a few hours. The fragrance lasts for hours. I sprayed it in the box and could still recognize it a week later as the dusty rose scent without even opening the box. Longevity=monster kind of like the scent.

A song: Still by Autumn's Grey Solace. A ghostlike dry-cold powdery sensation. Like taking an image of a rose and adding a pale blue filter on top, like an anachronistic album cover. Classifying perfume by season is one thing, but I find this to be perfectly complimented by windy weather. Strange memories of Grandma's attic. It's waxy yet scratchy like nylon stockings. There's many things going on, though it all seems hidden into one wavering frequency. This is the lingering trace of a shy dead girl lost in time.

I loved this on my skin when I was little (more than 20 years ago). I have not smell it in a long time. I remember it was powdery rose, familiar, and lovely. I like that it made me smell like I was right out of a bath of dusty roses. Would I still like it? I don't know, but I want to smell it again... I had a happy childhood. I bought this fragrance again!

I absolutely love this. Gorgeously powdery in a way I didn't anticipate! Almost almond-like. Rose Noire is perfect for twilight hours. I think this will be perfect for the upcoming cool weather in Ohio 💚 I advise against more than a couple sprays. While I love to douse myself, this one is POTENT. Not for the office, either.

This is very unique and interesting. LOTS of iris makes this powdery. Very powdery. But there's a sharp fruity aspect as well that reminds me of ylang. If you are expecting a traditional rose fragrance, don't look here. The vetiver is present. There's musk, sandalwood and geranium supporting. I don't detect rose.

I'm not a fan of rose perfumes but I do like this dusty, powdery, vintage smelling scent. I love Sheridanellis' idea of layering it with Coty Vanilla Fields when I want a softer scent but I also LOVE layering it with my Body Fantasies Oud Noir Body Spray. Gives it a truly dark,woody, goth smell and lasts forever!

Just got a bottle of Rose Noire today and I think it smells a lot like Dana's Love Baby soft for young girls..Its ok but not something I'd want to wear all the time.Maybe its a scent I'd spray on my PJ's before I went to slumber land though :)

it really smells like habanita without the dirty, provocative smell. when i smell it i think of an english girl with rosy cheeks and powdery smell...i really love this perfume

Rose Noire is interesting! It is reminiscent of Ombre Rose (although I haven't smelled that one since back in the late 80's or early 90's, when I owned a bottle). It's a cool, not warm, perfume -- maybe from the combination of iris, violets, and vetiver -- smelling like old fashioned powder compact make-up, not sweet, but still rosy pink. It has an odd plastic or rubber note at first spray that, thankfully, dissipates within the first minute or so (kind of reminds me of Bvlgari Black, with it's mix of feminine vanilla-rose plus rubber), but also a fruity, but not sweet, rose hip note. Rose Noire is one of those perfumes that that smells very different on skin than out of the bottle. From the bottle, it smells more bitter and rubbery, while on the skin, it smells just cool, powdery and rosy; it's a bit of a throwback to an earlier era, which I love. If you're a fan of such scents as Bvlgari Black or Pour Femme, Guerlain L'Heure Bleue or Insolence, or of course Ombre Rose, you likely will enjoy Rose Noire.

This perfume confuses me so much. I really want to like it. Looking at the notes, I should be crazy about it. Yet every time I try it on, I am tempted to scrub it off. (So far I haven't given in to the urge...) I get a strongly unpleasant alcohol-like blast when I spritz it on. After a few minutes that is gone but what replaces it is not much better. To describe it I would say if you lit a big pile of pencil shavings on fire, and then threw in a couple of cloves and a couple of wilted gardenia petals, the smoke from that fire would be what this scent smells like on me. That is all I smell until after a couple of hours, at which point I can smell nothing unless I bring my wrist to my nose. On my wrist I smell a powdery, perfume-that's-so-old-its-turned-to-alcohol smell. Sadness. I guess I should be glad that the longevity and sillage on me are both horrible. Why can't this perfume be nice to me? I'm not giving up this easily, though. I think I'm going to try layering it with other scents. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could layer this with to maximize the floral fragrance? Thanks!

I was really expecting more from this scent. Initially, it is an intense blast of ancient, dusty, slightly rose-smelling baby powder, very dry. This phase lasted a couple of hours, and I did not enjoy it. It dries down to a tame, powdery rose that still smells "old" somehow. The scent also cut in and out--even though I practically bathed in it, it was still hard to smell at times (and I have a clear nose today). I did not get any of the "leather" notes that anyone was talking about, except that sort of "old" smell--maybe reminiscent of something that has been stored in the same room with something leather, with a lot of dust on it, but not leather itself. I don't see how this one conveys "punk" or "attitude" or "sexy" either--I guess my cold-blooded body chemistry has once again drained the life out of a purportedly sexy scent. I think this would be a great perfume for Halloween, if you are dressing up as Miss Havisham from Charles Dickens' Great Expectations, Aunt March from Louisa May Alcott's Little Women, or some other mummified grande dame from centuries past.

I was tempted to buy this one after reading the comparison with Molinard Habanita, which I love. This one, although strong like Habanita, in my opinion, is not as good. At first you smell a dusty rose, like it has been stored for a while. Not good. I agree with some of you, it does smell better after a while . The smell turns softer, ending up with a powdery, soapy, rosy smell. Although different, it's synthetic and dated. Ended up giving it to my mother in law, that seem to love these dated frags. Sorry, not my cup of tea.

At first, I couldn't think of whether to like this perfume or not. It is very powdery, which is exactly what im usually looking for but after a couple of minutes, the amber came in and smelled pretty unpleasant. Unfortunately not my cup of tea. I'll keep on looking.

No, no and no. At least I now know I do not like powder notes in a perfume. Someone said it’s like the inside of an old make-up bag, it really is. If you like that then you’ll like this. There will be a spare bottle in a charity shop in York this afternoon.....

Imagine Bvlgari Black, Bandit or Dzing! with a slap of dirty roses... that's Rose Noire. First spray on skin hit me like Bandit's initial halitosis and I actually tried to back away from the bottle I was still holding. But I'm an Educated Fragrantican now so I didn't let the stink scare me. The first bit was the sharpness of new tires muddied by the papery sourness of cardboard -- stunning but not so wearable. Patience was rewarded about 10 minutes later as the warmth in the crooks of my elbows (where I try all new smells: it's the warmest, most moist spot where my nose can reach) began to nearly glow with the dank almost-honeyed note of the darkest of velvety red roses. When the roses emerge the rubber note subsides and gives way to the buttery soft leather note Magie mentions and that's what stays with me: a rose-perfumed handkerchief in an old favorite leather handbag. A stunner that feels unexpectedly sexy in a very classy way. Roses and leather -- dirtier than Anglomania. Oily, almost. As sexy is as sexy feels, this qualifies as a seductive fragrance in my book. I can honestly say that if I'd blind tested Rose Noire and Dzing! I'd have bought Rose Noire and passed on Dzing!, which is lovely but in a unisex way while Rose Noire feels womanly. Rose Noire also dries down to a slightly sweeter drydown than Bandit and lasts & lasts, just like Bandit. Who nosed this rose/leather wonder? Magie's review is spot on and at under $15 for 100ml I say "Go treat yourself!" like I did. edit: 2 years after 1st review... I wore this last night and thought of Habanita + roses all evening. Ordered another bottle from the "smelly monkey" for under $8.00 USD. I'm glad my skin chemistry enhances this fragrance - my nose picks up nothing of the synthetic edge some here perceive.

(This review is for Parfum de Toilette) ROSE NOIRE is a rose with quite different personality and a lot of attitude. I think it reminds me not of a real rose but a rose tattoo on a strong-willed girl who loves heavy metal and drives a motorbike. The girl is tough but underneath this rough exterior she has sensual and romantic soul which comes out at a concert when after the blast of heavy metal, the romantic love song comes on. This is a powerhouse fragrance in the beginning. The geranium, bergamot and jasmine are harsh punch in the face. It is almost masculine scent with rubber like accent mixed with a bit of gasoline. During the testing I sprayed generous amount to get the full effect and I thought this scent will literally suffocate me. I love strong scents with a lot of character but this was a bit too much even for me. However the scent did a complete transformation when the heart notes appeared in about 15 minutes. The harshness was gone completely and the soft rose appeared surrounded by the powdery iris. The rose at this stage is dark, powdery and a bit old fashioned. The leather accent adds enough kick to keep the composition a bit edgy. I enjoyed this stage a lot. The scent continues along the soft trajectory with the woody amber and oakmoss in the base notes. The vanilla is very light on my skin and definitely not sweet. The base notes have a bit soapy accent. The beginning of this scent is so harsh that I am not sure if it will appeal to many people. I agree with other reviewers that you have to wait until the heart notes come in to appreciate this scent. The sillage is strong and the longevity is medium.

Rose Noire or Black Rose is a deceptive moniker. This fragrance is not mysterious or dark. It's a light powdery fragrance which smells vintage and similar to Ombre Rose. There's a rose and geranium mix that always creates a rose scent, but in this fragrance it's a rose in the form of rose powder because of the attar of the rose and the iris which always turns powdery as it becomes a fragrance. This is an iris perfume because when you combine iris and rose it turns powdery. This is a lovely cloud of perfumed powder. I can also detect the jasmine white floral touch and the woods namely the oak moss. A spicy vetiver and touch of sandalwood at the base make this a very old fashioned and lovely fragrance. It does have that "inside of a make-up bag or handbag" scent but I like that. It's very feminine and delicate, dusty, sweet and pretty. I would recommend this as a romantic night out fragrance or to put on for a candlelight dinner at home. It's exuding romance and femininity. I love it.

Ive got this awile ago. This has changed morepowdery, balanced, and wow, isnt it gorgeous or what! Smooth, slightly sweet iris/orris symphony with a suitable balanced rose-- I really dont like rose as a leader, you know - but here it lingers with those main flowers (I know orris is the root) I just heard from the doctor, - they took allergy tests, and I have to sell allmost all of my fumes, if I dont want to get more and more sensitive to fragrances.. I wanted to give my final review(s) to my belowed, and my only real friends at this stage. If you love the powdery and iris/orris (and violet) perfumes, this is a real hidden gem with those all so much expensive fumes. I love you my dear, you look and smell so beatifully bloomed. Yes, you are just a hint of the same as habanito, but you are more fragile and ethearal than your relative. Stay strong with your beaty. I know there are more of them whom you have convinced about your beaty allready. Shine bright like a Diamond!

Rose Noire by Giorgio Valenti Not so much a powdery rose, as a musky powder scent, lightly infused with dry roses. This dryness or mild embitterment is subtle and indistinct, but it underlies everything. There is a sparkle of bergamot at the opening, ...but it lasts only a moment. Rose Noire is certainly an old-fashioned rose, as much as it is a rose, ...but that word 'Noire' doesn't refer only to the rose. The overall mood of this now-dated perfume is one of quietly demure decay. It is a fragrance that evokes impoverished widows brooding in their bed-sits, ...or perhaps even a Miss Havisham type that never got to be a widow. So many explicitly modern attempts at darkly Gothic perfumery with their vampires, witches, and ghosts could learn much about the true nature of melancholy and darkness by meditating upon this. ... Though there might not be much of a market for it anymore.

I am having a hard time understanding how anyone can like this!I believed I could like and fix almost any perfume...but not this one... I have tried numerous times and get the same thing each try...Smells like baby powder that has sat for so many years, that is is beyond wearable...It's an awful stale, musty dusty odor! I don't like throwing any perfume out so I use it to cut the smell of the cats liter box... Sometimes wondering if I would prefer the smell of the liter box more then this. I don't smell rose at all...In fact I don't smell anything but old,stale baby powder... I am sorry as I have never left such a negative review... One nice thing I can say is :"I love the bottle!"(I have a similar tattoo)" Oh and the rose noire absolue is not as bad as this one...RNA is fresher and can be layered nicely with other perfumes such as Gucci bamboo...
