Amarige D'Amour

Let's start with my confession: I am a notorious blind buyer. When I saw a partial bottle of discontinued Amarige d'Amour online, I recklessly pulled the trigger. Bertrand Duchaufour is a nose I always find fascinating: He has created some of my absolute favourite fragrances, like Safran Troublant, Traversee du Bosphore and Kyoto. He is also the man behind a couple of perfumes that I just could not abide, like S T Dupont Signature for women. Yet they all have a common denominator - they are not boring! When I first sprayed this, all I got was cassia and black currant, with the merest hint of mimosa. It strangely reminded me of S T Dupont Signature, which was definitely not a good sign from my point of view. When I got home from the post office (yes, of course I tested it already in the parking lot; patience is not my cardinal virtue), my husband sniffed my arm and proclaimed his absolute approval, which is usually pretty hard to get. What can I say? Amarige d'Amour is definitely not a linear scent. The initial dominance of cassia and black currant gives way to a mix of sweet peas, rose and mimosa. The initial notes remain for a long time, but take back stage, adding zest and personality. The dry down, where I really notice the ambergris, is gorgeous. What surprised me was the very last note I perceived before Amarige d'Amour completely disappeared, some nine hours after the initial spray. It was the faintest, most delicate lily of the valley. This was definitely I blind buy I don't regret! A word of warning for those of you that don't enjoy soapy perfumes, though. There is more than a hint of soapiness in Amarige d'Amour! Edit: A weird thought just occurred to me. If S T Dupont Signature for women had a love child with JLO Glow, this could be it!

I just received a full bottle of this via a fragrance site. It was completely wrapped and brand new. I'm not sure when this was discontinued, but what a loss! A beautiful soft sweet pea scent- with NO patchouli (thank God). I'm not getting the "sour" smell that a couple people here are, unless their noses just are sensitive to bit of black current. Love this. Quite elegant and demure. Really thrilled with this purchase.

This has some of the original Amarige’s brightness, but with some of the plant resin-like vibe from Lanvin’s Rumeur mixed in. It’s a drier, less sticky and sweet take on Amarige that is much easier to wear in warmer weather. It’s definitely not a modern scent, but I wouldn’t call it “aged” or “ dated”, either.

..best perfume I have ever had.....nothing smells like this!!!!

I prefer this perfume to the original Amarige. The first spritz smells just like sweet pea, which doesn't last too long. I really dislike cassis. It's the one note that keeps me from fully loving this perfume. I detect mimosa more easily than any other flower as well as a touch of tartness from the rosehip. I hate using the word "soapy," but there is a pure, translucent, clean quality about this fragrance that I really enjoy. It's a nice, clean, spring floral, but make no mistake--it retains that Givenchy complexity that makes for a high-quality, classic perfume. And for such a spring-y perfume, lasting strength is commendable. I have a vintage bottle available that my aunt bought, never wore and gave to me, but it's not really my thing. Sweet pea fruit-and-vegetable floral! Opens with a vegetal note that never goes away, transitions to a tart blackcurrant juice layered over mimosa and sweet pea. Very flowery in a sweet way, but just green enough to remind me of tomato leaf, with out smelling tomato leaf. I enjoy this composition even if it isn't perfect to me--it seems worthy of being a permanent item rather than a fallen flanker. I only vaguely remember Amarige, since a mini I bought years ago leaked in passage--I didn't get to test as well as I wanted. But the Amarige DNA seems present here, cause this is strong. But you have to inhale deeply to get the sweetness. This seems like it would be perfect for younger girls or younger women, there is something so fresh about it.

I like Amarige d'Amour, it is a very light and airy perfume, just with a touch of sweetness, perfect for day wear during the summer. I don't detect black currant at all. I also have the original version (wich I love), and these two have absolutely nothing in common.

I love the perfumes from the Amarige family!Even thought this is very light ,it is not like the other light citrusy and light flowery fragrances out there.This has a character,it is extremely feminine and the lasting power is great!!!!Next week I am buing it!

A very sweet-pea fragrance. This actually smells a tad oldfashioned and made me feel frumpy and matronly and I am one who loves old fragrances. I think this reminded me of an old Yardley type fragrance very linear and not much going on.

this opens with currant leaf and rose primarily. it's a green, somewhat herbal rose with rosehip that starts kind of bitter but softens later with ambergris and lily of the valley, though i read it as a soft musk at first. pretty and springlike but nothing like original amouage which i love. this one is ok, not my usual kind of rose but still pretty.

Please don't think just because it's a lighter flanker it's dishwasher soap. Amarige D'Amour has some serious attitude for a flanker, and to me, it totally steps out from behind older sis Amarige's shadow on its own right. Not dark and sexual like Amarige, but not a citrusy-flowery-watery typical springtime edition either. Totally different and unique. To begin with, Amarige D'Amour is possibly the most sour perfume I've ever smelled, right up there with Hypnose Senses. Not a citrus sourness, mind you, but the sourness of barely-ripe berries and slightly-green flower buds. Being as I love sour chypres, this is really great. The sourness persists for the duration of the perfume, but one or two hours in, gentle springtime flowers come in the balance the pH. Little pink petals of sweetpea and roses, cushioned on a cloud of lilies. The woods don't play a major role in this. I find Amarige D'Amour to be a springtime flanker with a serious edge. It definitely has its own personality, and it isn't just a happy-go-lucky dumbed down version of the original. Sometimes the sourness can be off-putting, so I have to be in an especially strong mood if I decide to reach for it in the morning.

Opens like leaves in the garden. I like plants and have plenty of them, but the scent of rubbing against the tomato plants without the soil or air notes I'd expect to accompany it is a bit odd. There's a floral that eventually comes in on the dry down. I have to assume it's the white mimosa since I know the other notes and it's not those. TBH, I just don't find this wearable. Smells like a sanitized and romanticized version of yard work.

Yes,I agree with Rithacha. Amarige D'Amour is possibly the most sour perfume I've ever smelled,black currant and cassia,both of them make a serious sour mixture can kill all the animals and persons from the beginning to ending.

I was given this for Xmas. It is pretty light and unfortunatelly does not last on my skin. I do prefer the original one.

It's a very sharp floral that didn't dry down on me. Agree with poster below. Smells nothing like original Amarige. I thought the initial blast of sharpness would go away but didn't Gave it away to a coworker with the warning never to wear around me unless it's at my funeral and I won't be able to smell it.

My brother in law (husband of Iluvsmellies)and I used to munch our way through many packets of sweets to get us through the working day. This wonderfully amazing fragrance is the ultimate sweet lover's dream.... It opens with the olfactory overload of an explosion in a sweet factory, Woah! Within 30 seconds the zesty tang of Refreshers emerges, which then quickly fades within a minute to the less prominent and sweeter tone of Love Hearts. After another 30 seconds or so, the floral sweet aroma of Parma Violets tantalises your taste buds. Shortly afterward, The delicious fruity aroma of Cherry Haribos begins to dominate with an undertone of Swizzle Lollies. The cherry Haribos remain dominant for another 5 minutes or so, slowly complemented with foamy-backed Haribos and the milk bottle ones. These are slowly and enjoyably consumed until we reach the lovely drydown - the sweet tang of an empty refreshers packet, a subtle reminder of what once was. Delicious! (By the way, I don't have shares in Swizzle, but think I possibly should have :)

I used Amarige so much lately , maybe because it's Summer I feel like something less overbearing and oppressive. All I have of Amarige d'amour is a small sample bottle and my favourite shop, usually unfailing is unable to source any more. The question is why? And why make this a 'flanker' of Amarige? There's no resemblance at all. It's sweet, light and evocative of innocent Summers. It reminds me of those lovely Kate Greenaway pictures little girls used to look at. Please re launch it!

This is one of those flankers that have nothing at all in common with the original - why do they do this? Anyway, the good news is that it's just lovely! A light, fresh fragrance thatis perfect for spring and summer. I detect no blackcurrant or ivy - notes I really dislike - to me it's green quality is like green tea and it is very refreshing and uplifting. (Quite the opposite of the original!) You could wear this anywhere and anytime and feel good.

Found a half full bottle of this at an estate sale. Not something I would expect the original homeowner to have in her possession. Glad I picked it up for $1. Yeaooza. Lovely, just lovely. (I did test it before I purchased it) Doesn't last as long as I would like. Very few summer scents seem to last. Prada D'Iris is an exception. I digress. Very nice light scent. If you find it, try it.

Amarige is one of my favorite fragrances so I was eager to try this. Absolutely agree that this doesn’t resemble Amarige at all unfortunately. The name sounds so promising, I know. A reviewer below who says this smells like a sanitised and romanticised version of yard work is so accurate and I can’t say it any better.

NO resemblance with the original which I adore..I did blind buy this and was taken aback a bit with a completely different scent, especially the first notes, but the middle and base notes are quite lovely. No regrets. But don’t expect it to smell like the original Amarige.

I have an unboxed, not a tester, 1 oz bottle of this perfume that I would love to sell or trade. Doesn't smell anything like roses on me, unfortunately. Sprayed maybe 4 times, bottle is full.

Please try the body veil - the perfume left a sour note during testing, but the body veil stayed as a sweet sandalwood, perfect for summer weddings!

I would not call this fruity, nor do I consider it Unisex. But-Wow!! This is light, pretty, and suitable for all occasions. Five stars!
