Équivoque

I agree with @Scent.guide’s take. This is a truly beautiful woody perfume, aromatic in the most refined and controlled way. It’s serious work. Not friendly, not playful, and definitely not fancy. Équivoque lives in a darker, more reserved space. The woods are deep and dry, but what really elevates it is the aromatic facet brought by cardamom. Not fresh cardamom, not spicy sweetness, but a cool, dry, almost austere aromatic note that adds structure and clarity. Everything here feels deliberate, measured, and extremely well balanced. I don’t agree that it smells like other perfumes. It really doesn’t. Équivoque sits in a league of its own. It’s not trying to seduce or impress, it’s composed, distant, and self-assured. This is a fragrance for serious attire and serious moods only. If I absolutely had to name something that comes closest in spirit, it would be Grand Master by Mind Games, and even then, it’s not a one-to-one comparison. The resemblance is more about the mood and the intellectual weight than the actual scent profile. 10/10

Layer this with lost cherry! Heavenly!! Fresh spicy, animalic Assam oud (one of the best I ever smelt in a parfume) and amaretto, cherry almondy gourmand, heavy woody earthy. What a mix Highly, highly recommend this layering. By it self is the scent quit pleasent and enjoyable really original 😊 performance is above average and great sillage the first 2 hours then not so much for the rest of the fragrance life which is tops 9+ Hours sometimes less, the combo with lost cherry has the same performance if not I tad bit better!

Running through Dubai airport ,pulled the handbrake and stopped to see what all the fuss was about. Glad I stopped ! Needless to say, that if it sits well on your skin, you will buy it! There's no getting over this . If you are into high quality oud, then this is the one. Its very elegant, not to harsh not too lite either. The olfactory nerve can distinguish through all the notes, and off course that Assam oud is something else.....

Beautiful nonwestern oud made tame for western noses. I don't think anyone can not like this. Maybe if you're turned off by cedar. But it's mixed well with the oud and cardamom. Very lovely masculine smell with nice projection for the first couple hours and solid longevity that should last most of the day. Oud goes leathery and can the perfume can be overwhelming if used in large amounts or in warmer situations. Classy nonetheless

This smells like a very expensive lounge bar with all its dark, smoky and slightly spicy facets. Beautiful and bold. It’s weird but it smells like “power” to me hahaha I don’t definitely wear this one in case of some serious business related negotiations :) Oud here is very clean and slightly dry, but slightly gives some warm vibes. I just did a tour of the fragrance counters at Neiman Marcus and spent hours looking for something to jump out at me that was different, yet bold. This is it! Amazing!!! It’s surprisingly fresh at first whiff, but the rich Ouds and Cedars shine at dry down.

I love the Losers here that vote on stuff without even trying it..this a gourgous Cardamom and Oud fragrance. Very well done. The Assam oud really stands out in this. Definitely worth the price tag for my taste.

The woods here are some of the most smooth smoky and masculine I’ve ever smelled. Transports you to the east right away, with the south East Asian Assam and the cardamom.

Tiene un cardamomo muy similar al de TF Oud Wood, pero acá oscurecido por mucho humo negro. Y al igual que TF, este también contiene una faceta "detergenosa" o jabonosa. En definitiva, se trata del ya conocido combo oud - cardamomo elegante y sobrio. Es decir, un TF OW oscuro, no por el oud, ya que este sigue estando controlado, sino por amargor del humo.

FROM A PAPER STRIP ONLY. Really high quality ingredients. More woody than oud-y. Definitely fresh spicy; the cardamom shines in here. I detect a leather note(?) à la Nishane Sultan Vetiver, but much less harch. Wearer: not approachable, arrogant, and filthy rich! 😁 Edit: Late dry down smells more oud-y. Smells nice, but definitely not unique.

A nice fresh spicy oud although with a similar astringency to Indompté.

When i first smelled this at the Givenchy boutique i remember that i had not smelled anything like this before. It has its own personality- deep, dark and leaves quite the first impression. Like @Scent.guide described, I agree that it smells like the embodiment of power. I was able to find a bottle secondhand, but it appears to be a bit different- mine, from 2023, seems less potent? Longevity is still the same but the sillage has reduced. It has become well-rounded but also more arid. With its facets subdued, it doesn't have that initial "in your face" impression anymore. I honestly prefer the tester, the dryness makes this challenging to wear.

This perfume, after trying it three times, I have concluded that it is a fragrance similar to the Bleu de Chanel method, but in the Givenchy way, beautiful woody and fragrant, but not something new. A good perfume for those who want to try a new formal woody perfume, but it can be the kind that is loved by all people. overall: 7/10

I bought this as a blind buy on eBay, along with a bottle of Désinvolte for my wife. She had smelled Désinvolte at duty free and loved it, and loves the bottle I bought via eBay. Regarding Equivoque, I read notes & thought I would like it. But I have a hard time smelling what are supposed to be: Top note - Guatemalan Cardamom; middle notes - Atlas Cedar, Virginian Cedar and Guaiac Wood; base note - Agarwood (Oud). It just smells like an astringent chemical. Maybe the cardamom is too pungent, and it mixes oddly with the cedar. I am not an expert...maybe the odd smell is normal. I regret buying it.

This thing is beautiful! I have been gatekeeping this because only I should ever be smelling this amazing! The cardamom, the oud and the woody notes just make this work. The nose behind this should be knighted and given keys to any city they wish. What a fragrance. It’s soo good that I took 0 chances of them maybe discontinuing it and bought a few bottles. This will never run out in my house.

After first wearing from a 2ml decant, I got PDM Haltane vibes from this. Less complex but every bit the quality. I need more time with it, particularly in cooler weather to really get a solid idea of what Equivoque is about. This stuff is good!

This one looks the most intriguing to me! Can't wait to try it!
