MMW

I blind bought this because Matthew M. Williams is the next Tom Ford in the realm of designer fashion. I had to check this release out asap because it is a historical milestone, Mr. Williams’ first fragrance. It’s not what I expected at all, but maybe that’s a good thing. I was expecting something similar to Creed Royal Oud or Celine Eau de Californie (both cedar-heavy winter fragrances). Instead what I get is a mix of Zegna Florentine Iris and Ormonde Man. You have the waxy iris and the sharp violet from the Zegna, and you have the sandalwood base note and high quality synthetics from the Ormonde Jayne. I feel very sophisticated wearing this, but I never feel like the guy who has too much cologne on. It’s an ideal office fragrance for someone who wants to smell high end, someone who doesn’t want to offend noses, and someone who doesn’t want to smell like shower gel. I’ve already gotten one compliment at work and that’s incredibly rare here at my very serious employer. The tradeoff you make is that you won’t be wowed by this fragrance throughout the day as the wearer. I am either going noseblind or it’s not performing very well. Maybe eventually I will buy Accord Particulier and layer it with MMW to get something that performs boldly and shouts

MMW (soon to be renamed 3 AVENUE GEORGE V) is a gorgeous rich, lush wood fragrance. To me the primary note is the palo santo. Previous reviews complain about its performance. Its longevity for me is about 4 hours .... not great. Projection is about average. This is my favorite wood fragrance, and I probably have about 25. It is elegant, classy, mature, professional and fairly unique. Most wood fragrances try to complicate things and add too many extraneous notes like florals, fruits, etc ... MMW is just a gorgeous woodsy scent. It can be worn any season, any time of the day by anyone. 9.25/10 and a Fragrantica score of 4.55 from me.

It simple but good. Woody musky a bit salty. with a hint of sweet tonka bean. Longivity was really good but your nose will get use to it after a hour. but people still remind your perfume for sure.

Nice scent, right when you first spray it gives you the same scent as Tam Dao but after like 20 minutes the scent profile changes to powdery with sweetness from the Cardamone.

MMW is a fantastic clean woody scent. Fairly unique yet still holds a lot of mass appeal. It could be a great signature scent as it has a lot of versatility.

A different level of elegance, love from the first sniff... much to say less word to find.. I'm loving it over all 9/10

I love this one.. BUT the longevity is so close to the skin/clothes. If you're willing to spend good money on this then make sure you love it enough to spray it a lot/are okay with having this as a skin scent. Literally, no projection. On the site is says that it's strong, but I'm assuming that may have been an error as other are agreeing and saying it's weak. You can buy and grab the try me tester, if you're not convinced then you can always sent it back. I was looking for a decent Palo Santa fragrance when I stubbled upon this one. I just wanted a somewhat sexy, clean and elegant smell. Here was have it, just not so strong :(

This is lovely and I also do not get the comparisons (at all) to BR540. This more closely resembles Papyrus Moleculaire -- it's a soft sandalwood, smokey papyrus type of scent with something to my nose, a tad lemony and categorically kind of a complex skin scent like Escentric 01. The ambroxan for me is really in the drydown and not the opening. V pleasant.

A very nice Palo Santo musk. Musky, sweet, lightly creamy. I do not like Santal 33 nor Papyrus Moleculaire. This is on another level. Wore my decant again and got so many compliments! Def going to get a full bottle. This man has potential!

Reminded me instantly of Piano Santal. A dry and woody sandalwood. Quickly turning creamy and milky. A like but very forgettable compared to Gris Charnel and other milky, figgy, sandalwood/creamy scents.

Don’t expect a deep woody fragrance that makes a bold statement, for this is a contemporary aroma chemical ethereal type affair. Fortunately, I was slightly prepared for this by the previous reviewers comments. I get an initial drop of freshness that’s clean with a light touch of citrus and cardamom before it quickly transitions to the heart which is slightly more woody although the synthetic notes are the most present, with the other notes playing a very subtle supporting role. I can’t say I get any smokiness from the palo santo either. As it dries down, it turns more powdery with some light floral touches (iris?) but the synthetics are always present with their musky, skin like tones. Overall, it’s fairly down-the-line unisex. It’s also elegant and classy but a wisp of a fragrance from my initial testing. In fact it’s so light on me, I’m not sure if it’s even there. I’d imagine it’s like some of the contemporary Iso E Super fragrances where the wearer can’t smell anything and yet other people around them can. Interestingly, Givenchy rate this as a four out of four for intensity on their website. I like it and I think it would be good for layering but as the person below said, I can’t detect it and so it’s either a poor performer, which at £200 a shot isn’t good enough, or it’s a silage fragrance that is undetectable by the wearer. The jury’s out. I’ll update once I’ve worn it more and I’ll await with interest to see how other people experience this fragrance. Edit: after sampling this for a few days I decided to send the unopened bottle back. Fortunately, Givenchy provide a sample to try before opening the full bottle. It’s just too light for me at that price point and as it developed, it became more powdery, which is something I’m not particularly keen on. Had the vibe from the top notes persisted then I think I would have kept it but alas it dissipates into a light, powdery, synthetic, androgynous fragrance that fails to make a big enough impact to me. However, if you like light, contemporary, aromachemical fragrances then it’s well worth a try,

@olympe. I tested it on my wife's arm so I wasn't near it. Its weak as shit. Such a shame as the opening is bloody lovely.

This and Accord Particulier (also from Givenchy) are fraternal twins. Layer to increase the longevity and potency of both. Best to spray on clothing for full 360 3-D sensory impact. Clean woody atmospheric goodness. Calming and grounding and perfection as an all weather, all contexts, everyday baseline scent. This is what I wear when I claim not to be wearing anything - "that's just how I smell." Best advice from a perfume collector like moi - know what a perfume is for, what it is intended to do, and how you should approach wearing it and this will manage your expectations. MMW and similar scents aren't meant to be fill-the-room bangers that illicit "what is that perfume?" They will fill the room but it's more "smells good in here." This is not so on the nose...and that's a good thing.

This is a beautiful spicy cedar, animalic fragrance by up and comming designer MMW. I can’t wait for him to launch his own brand. Paolo Santo is hard to capture in perfumery, but he does it beautifully with a harmony of diverse woody notes balanced with a pheromone enhancing note that is very subdued but powerful at the same time. It was love at first sniff for me, in the bottle and on my skin. I adore iso e super, which was evident right away as well as Ambroxan AKA, whale poo. This fragrance is where niche meets designer and I love it. Molecule 1, Juliette Has a Gun, Santal 33 are all cousins IMHO

Whoever compared this to YSL 24 Rue de L’université was bang on. Smelled this randomly in the Dubai Duty Free and was struck by the similarity (at least in my memory). Tried to directly compare the two... only to find out that 24 was unavailable/potentially discontinued. So I just went ahead and purchased this. Basically a very appealing, elegant sandalwood with both a spicy and a milky/fig vibe. Very versatile and wearable.

I got a sample from Givenchy and I really enjoyed the fragrance . Unfortunately this thing only last 30 minutes and DISAPPEARS totally . For sure it's a Quality Control issue and Givenchy and other companies with similar cases should inform the public about the extremely low performance of its products .

Man this smells so similar to a designer perfume I had back in the day just can’t put my finger on it anyone have any idea what the dna is similar to?

Fantastic scent. Among the worst performing fragrances to speak of. Wish it wasnt so but for that reason I wont be buying this.

It instantly reminds me of 24 rue de l'Université (Yves Saint Laurent) at the first spray, but with less sandalwood.

Amazing smell!!!.... A total killer.... But totally disappear after 25 min. Literally Talking!.

Boring and over done. Nice scent though. Minimal sillage and last time.
