Very Irresistible Bulgarian Rose

I love this one! I don't use it every day but some days when I am in the mood for some Roses scent.. I think the Bulgarian roses are the Best in the World and though this perfume is Great, I think it could be alot better if they would leave the Roses alone or add just a little bit fruity scent. I mean a little little bit. Bulgarian roses are Great just the way they are. No need to add ANYTHING on top of them. By the way: I have another Bottle of 100% Bulgarian roses (=just Roses!) and most of the times I use both perfumes together. It makes the scent of the 1st one alot better.

I got my bottle of Very Irresistible Bulgarian Rose waaaaay back in 2005. My mom loved Amarige and bought the special edition that had been released of that, and I admired this fragrance, which she purchased for me. I wore it off and on (mostly off) for the next few years and then tucked it away into a drawer. I've tried it a handful of times over the last few years to revisit it, and the opening always throws me for a loop. I'm not sure if my bottle is beginning to turn (very likely), and perhaps the top-notes are suffering. However, the middle and end of this fragrance is just like I remember it, and it is truly beautiful, a unique rose. In fact, I can't compare this to any other rose fragrance I'm familiar with. So, in my bottle, the opening smells quite odd. A bit herbal and minty, but with a honeyed-floral note that doesn’t quite smell exactly like rose. As it just begins to settle in (first fifteen minutes or so) the minty-herbal note begins to develop more recognizably into anise, but an anise that leans more herbal than licorice. I begin to recognize rose at this stage, but it’s a dusty, damp rose with a rounded sweetness to it. It has fairly respectable projection; even with one ginger spritz to the back of my hand, I can get whiffs of this even when my hand is at my side. This projection lasts for about 5 or 6 hours; the fragrance just billows and I'll catch these absolutely lovely waves of it here and there. Nearly an hour in, this becomes what I remember it being. I get a nice round, sweetened rose. The spice and anise is here to support the rose; I don’t believe they’re necessarily meant to be appreciated as their own, distinctive notes. They serve to shape the rose into this warm, balanced, sweeter rose, as opposed to something more dry, perhaps bordering on astringent (like what I get from a lot of damask-rose scents). There’s a freshness to this as well, a nice green note that makes me think of fresh-cut stems or the scent that comes off of torn leaves. This is a fragrance that needs time to rest, to warm up on the skin, and then it comes into its own. Once the fragrance has developed fully, it’s nice and creamy, with a hint of vanilla and musk mixing with soft spices in the background. I know neither vanilla nor musk are supposed to be in this fragrance, but at the very very end of its life (about 7 hours after spraying), when I press my nose to my hand, all I smell a sweet soapy musk, soft rose, and a small flourish of creamy vanilla. If you ever have the opportunity to smell this, take it! I love my bottle; it's not an every-day fragrance, but I thoroughly enjoy the experience of watching it develop and change on skin.

A spicy aromatic Bulgarian rose. Very realistic to actual Bulgarian rose which can be bitter, green, dewy and cold. But as perfume other adjectives best describe it like fresh, strong, spicy, exotic, aromatic, perfumy. The rose is the queen in this fragrance but that's easy for her this time because she's the only floral note. The spices are very noticeable and the star anise. It's herbal and green, strong rose perfume, sexy. I wear it on the hot summer nights on romantic dates. It's beautiful.

coco76: I could not detect the anise at all. I don't like anise. I found it to be a very respectable rose. The spices really give it a little kick. I think you should try to get a sample if you are interested. I may go back and sample at Macy's again just to see if I REALLY liked it as much as I thought. It did seem a tad sweet though, and I'm trying move my new purchases away from that. Good luck!

dammit!! i love bulgarian rose..but then they go and throw anise in there...arrggghhhhhhh does anybody know how strongly the anise is in this perfume?
