Calme & Volupté

Out of the humble sample pack I received from Godet a few days ago I also received samples of Calme & Volupté and Eternité with my order. Let me just say that these fragrances from Godet are all finely blended perfumes with a palpable quality that is alluring and properly French in style. I have been trying my samples day by day and this is yet another fragrance from the house that has stopped me in my tracks. It has seized my attention with its graceful beauty. Calme & Volupté is a Beguiling fragrance. I am falling harder for it than I can fathom because something in this smell reminds me strongly of my childhood, even if only the idea of my childhood. I absolutely love it and its tickling my emotions a little bit. Calme & Volupté is seriously beautiful from start to end. I drink Turmeric tea made from the root frequently and I can tell you that the tumeric note in the introduction of this fragrance is very, very realistic, of fine quality and fantastically tempered by a cool, spicy lavender. The first blast of tumeric is very rustic and Eastern, comforting and homey and transforms beautifully to give scaffolding and an earthy base to theme Calme and Volupté's profile. The tumeric introduction is non-compromisingly real but never loud or abrasive while also containing every facet of the spice. The slightly rooty, earthy, carrot-y and spicy sensation that is present in fresh turmeric boiled in water is what you experience in the beginning. Then immediately after the few minutes of photorealistic turmeric, Calme and Volupté sheds the spicy exterior and magically morphs into a beautiful mellow and earthy Oriental Fougère with a respectful duality of Fine French and Rich Eastern heritage. If you blink you could easily miss this transition but no worries as what remains just gets better with time. Calme and Volupté remains as beautifully rich woody benzoin with a surrounding earthy dustiness and nuances of lavender, peach and blackcurrant in the heart engaging with each other weaving in and out like synchronized swim rehearsals on your skin and clothes. The mid-life of this fragrance is truly outstanding with a purple and orange fruitness; delicate and fresh, combining with a purple and orange spiciness; warm and zesty. Tumeric is a very risky and strange perfume ingredient because when it is blended too heavily in perfume it could become sweaty resembling the profile of curry or Indian food or it can get too earthy like sour and bitter soil. But turmeric combined with the heart notes in this are very well-balanced, never overpowering nor do they get too spicy, rich or sweet which I can’t seem to understand but in my opinion the blend just works. This is easily a genderless signature scent you can wear year round even comfortably in the office as I have found to be the case with a few of the ones I’ve tried so far from Godet perfumes. None of them are screamers and they are all well-polished fragrances that leave some of the most attractive scent trails. Calme and Volupté smells regal and smart exhibiting colors of purple and orange swirling together in my mind. Quite unique. My journey with Godet is only just beginning. 🌿🏛🕌 10/10

Ages ago, I blended lavender oil with turmeric oil out of sheer curiosity, and was taken by how the turmeric drew out the earthiness of the lavender. It reminded me of how the buds smelled when still attached to the plant, in the field, under the sun. Imagine my surprise when I see that Sonia Godet has combined the two for her Calme & Volupté. I was happy to see that a perfumer realized the synergy when the two are combined. There is a truly soothing effect here, a merging of perfumery and aromatherapy. I applied some and took a walk and it allowed me to move a little more slowly and deliberately. The rooty quality of the turmeric feels grounding. There is a blackcurrant that is in the periphery here, just a soupçon of tart, that elevates the lavender accord. It feels mellow yet deep, nary a sharp edge or jagged wood penetrates through this bucolic delight.

A beautiful, photo-realistic lavender perfume. The lavender is very realistic and full, not ephemeral like in much of modern perfumery. There is a slight earthy, bitter undertone to it provided by the turmeric note which takes this perfume in a slightly unusual or unexpected direction but it's all the more unique and special because of it. To my nose, this is a very straightforward type of perfume that doesn't evolve - instead the lavender just takes you on a long walk through summer fields on a cool evening. I personally only wear this perfume at home, in the evening to relax but it does stay on my skin for the rest of the evening and it's just a lovely, lush experience that I can wholeheartedly recommend. The gradient purple of the bottle is to die for.

A lavender perfume I am searching for! Naturally herbal, bittersweet, spicy accord with tartness and watery effect visually purple and green. This is what I wanted Mon Guerlain to be but all I can smell in MG is just laundry musk and vanilla can't smell the lavender part. Calming and refreshingly dreamy to wear on warmer months and windy days quite unique and sensuous composition. 💜💚💜

Soft lavender scent. Imagine spring in Provence: blooming fields, slight breeze, hay, soft woods. Very calming and put together scent. Easily worn by both genders.
