Blue Cypress

This is so nice, I think it’s underrated among the Goldfield & Banks collection. It’s crisp, citrusy, green and woody; like walking into a pine forest in the early morning when everything is covered in dew. I think this would be perfect for a job interview or any situation where you want to feel fresh and put together. It is green and woody but it’s not herbal or grassy, so I think it would still appeal to people who generally don’t go for green scents. The patchouli is also pretty quiet. The lavender and spices perhaps make it lean a bit more masculine but it’s still unisex, I’m a woman and I love it. Great longevity and moderate projection.

The opening on this one is so strong, I immediately get rainforest after rain in humid weather. A bit intense, but not unpleasant. This passes pretty quickly, and those fresh spicy notes start blooming. The first time I sampled this I was in my partners bedroom, where there is almost always insence burning. It took me the longest time to figure out what I was smelling was in fact NOT his insence cones but blue cypress's drydown. I've heard a few people say this smells like Christmas to them, and I get that for the northern hemisphere, but for me, it very much settles into smelling like insence burning and a forest near the beach after rain.

This is an under the radar fragrance filled with refreshing doses of Natural and invigorating notes. I love the freshness perhaps because of the natural ingredients and also how it’s wrapped in a slightly woody herbal component. One to many fragrances for this to compete with and for that reason it doesn’t get the love it should. This is fresh calming and sophisticated release that has great potential and happens to be one I will continue to reach for in the warmer seasons.

Blue Cypress is the one that may be a little bit boring, but that's still quite an accomplishment because I honestly don't feel like any of the line are actually unpleasant or bad. The lavender and cloves in this are totally sublime. It doesn't do much and is very linear. That's not entirely a bad thing, though. 'light incense... dewy morning' really seems to describe it well. It lasts around 4 hours... not bad for the cost/scent.

To me, this is more of a crisp autumn morning, with gentle breezes bringing forth the faint scent of the pine trees. Very green, minty and herbal-y for me. First time wearing a perfume of this scent profile and I love it! Dry down smells like aftershave for me. Which is good, as Ive had experiences with perfume drydowns smelling like piss... (Jo Malone Orange Blossom)

The most obvious reference is indeed Acqua di Gio- this is like a greener version of ADG! Opens with a fresh hit cooling cypress and then proceeds very quickly to the herbal drydown reminiscent of ADG because of the patch effect! It's a nice daytime frag, pleasant enough to warrant wearing it though not compelling enough to owning a full bottle.

For me this is the best of the green freshies of G&B, Bohemian Lime smells to much like a barbershop cologne, Pacific Rock Moss is better but still too boring. Blue Cypress just does it better, its a more complex and fresher scent.

To me its like ADG.. maybe a little deeper darker than ADG but not as far as Profumo.. as its drying down its getting more smooth and just as people pleasing as the above mentioned.

Amazing fragrance and great longevity and projection. Much better than Pacific rock moss. Like a smoother aqua di gio and perfect for the summer heat

Blue Cypress was launched in 2016 and was created by François Merle-Baudoin. The inspiration was the region of Kakadu National Park, which covers an extension of more than 12 thousand square kilometers and is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is Australia's largest park with rugged cliffs, rainforests and rock engraving galleries over 20,000 years old. The creative concept aims to portray a light incense haze that fuses with the scent of morning dew and evaporates from the leaves of the blue-green forest, while the sun casts its rays on resins and eucalyptus. For this purpose, were combined notes of blue cypress from Australia, Bulgarian lavender, patchouli and cloves from Indonesia, as well as star anise from India. Blue Cypress is classified, by the manufacturer, as a zesty, woody, green and crisp perfume. When applied, it brings a very refreshing output, as if it had a little ginger in the composition. And this is because the cypress wood is rich in alpha-pinene, much found in essential oils of rosemary, eucalyptus, and conifers, such as pine trees. To reduce its levels, the woods are left exposed in the air (so that such a compound evaporates) and the result is a woody note, of citrus and green smell. On the skin, Blue Cypress behaves, basically, as a woody-aromatic, with lavender and cypress throughout all the evolution. It does not bring great surprises, nor is innovative. It is unisex, but I believe it should please the male audience more because it has a fresh and versatile style that is very common in creations made for men. Blue Cypress was the third fragrance I tested from Goldfield & Banks and I can say at this point, that there is a standard with regards to projection and durability. So far, all the perfumes proved to be potent at first, losing their projection very quickly, but they remained for an average of eight hours on my skin, making themselves present in moments of carelessness. And this is a characteristic of the work of some perfumers, when aligned with the concept of the brand. In terms of sales, if I think about the Brazilian male audience, for example, I dare say that Blue Cypress would be the favorite and best-seller perfume among the ones I've tried so far, namely: Wood Infusion and Desert Rosewood. After all, Brazilian men love fresh and woody fragrances, and when it comes to niche perfumery, it's very common to find good citrus made with lemon and neroli or aquatics that are very ethereal. In this case, Blue Cypress is not innovative, but it is an easy to please choice.

Goldfield & Banks fragrances are listed as perfume concentration but behave more like an EDT. You will get two hours of projection and another couple hours as a skin scent from most of them. If I am going to pay over $200 for an EDT, I generally want something that is going to stand out from the bunch. This is a fairly standard aquatic fragrance. Blue Cypress leans masculine but brings nothing new to the table, Pacific Rock Moss leans feminine but feels way more unique. I previously had a bottle of Acqua Di Gio, I agree with Kronstadt that you could easily mistake it for ADG in passing. The anise is somewhat there but you have to really search for it so I don't think it's enough to give it an edge. I currently own a bottle of Versace Eau Fraiche which is cheap and lasts a good while on my skin, I can imagine that all men already own something in the aquatic realm. Acqua Di Gio Profumo or Bleu De Chanel would probably suit most buyers, but there are literally dozens of other aquatic fragrances out there that will outperform this for less than half the price. I will say that this smells way more natural than most blue fragrances, so if you can't stand synthetics at all then you might want to give this a shot. There are much better options from this house, but I'll give this a solid 6.5/10. Nothing new, nothing offensive, very natural.

This is my first proper sampling of Blue Cypress, one of the original releases in 2016 from Goldfield & Banks, named after a species found in Northern Territory, Australia. It’s difficult for me not to take its name to heart, as, even though I get a fresh green woody note, I do envision a blue aquatic side to it, as well, a sort of cross between the two concepts very brightly juxtaposed. It does remind me vaguely of some freshie men’s fragrances of the 90s and 2000s, but certainly it’s an improvement in terms of sophistication and better-quality ingredients, despite the overall aroma being a bit familiar. This is, simply put, an easy unisex modern freshie winner, apt for anyone anytime, and I imagine the only turnoffs will be due to some of the scent memories I’m experiencing, which for me are perfectly pleasant but for others might not be so great. Blue Cypress is priced like most of the main collection, at $190 for 100ml, sold via great boutiques in the US like Perfumology, and performs quite well as a freshie. Being under the $2 / ml still is a good sign, pricing-wise. 7 out of 10

What an apt name for this fragrance because at first spray I got a massive hit of "blue" and "cypress". A punchy, almost medicinal aquatic-cypress - which actually smells like you're standing in a cypress forest breathing fresh clean air but without any earthy notes present. It's named after Kakadu National Park in Northern Territory Australia so as far as olfactory experiences go I think G&B have achieved their goal here. Dry down happens very quickly and settles to a softer patchouli-lavender with mild cypress and maybe a hint of clove. I don't normally like lavender in perfume but this is a lovely use of it. A lot of people are comparing this to Acqua Di Gio original, and I agree they are very similar. I prefer this scent over ADG as it feels more "clean forest air" but the sillage and lasting power of Blue Cypress are both poor. If you're buying it for the scent, go ADG. If you're wanting an olfactory experience, go with Blue Cypress but stick to sample sizes since it's not full bottle worthy for the price in my opinion.

I was very surprised by this one! I'm not sure if i like it because it is genuinely good, or because I had such low expectations... Reading the notes on paper looks like everything I hate... I'm so sensitive to spices and peppery smells. Cloves, anise, dirty patchouli... I thought I was going to have a super herbal, medicinal, old-timey cough syrup experience... But it was actually very fresh and misty. It actually smelled like cold, wet air at the stop of a mountain. Or chilled green moss growing on some rocks in a mountain spring. This would be so refreshing on a hot sweltering summer day. I really don't detect the spices... or if I do, they are not arranged the traditional 'spicy' way that tickles my nose and makes me cough. To me, this leans masculine, but only just. I could see a woman wearing this and having the same effect as Miu Miu L'eau Bleue. Unfortunately, the longevity and sillage was the weakest among my sample discovery set. I wish it lasted longer.

Very unique freshie. I definitely get some mintiness from this. Kind of like a cypress herbal minty chewing gum or mouthwash. But in a fresh aquatic way. It is very interesting . It's fresh, slight aqua, herbal , mint gum. As it dries the wood slooowly intensifies, which I love because it lets everything else linger. On the full dry down it does get to a spiced fresh base. The more I wore this the more unique it felt to me. I can see how people will say it's woody, how some would say it's herbal mint, spicy mint, aqua herbal, a fougere , a sweet fougere. The notes are very bold so it's not a light fragrance but it is no where near a beast mode fragrance. By today's standards I would say it has pretty average performance (4 hours) with strong projection for the first hour and a half. It totally disappears after about 5 to 6 hours. It's as versatile as a fresh herbal woody fragrance can get. I give this a 7/10 . Solid

I don't have much to say on this one. It's a very simple and straightforward scent. Clean and green! I definitely don't get any of the spice notes. It's mainly the cypress for me and maybe a hint of the lavender. Almost a linear scent. It's very fresh, pleasant and inoffensive. Unfortunately it's also not that original. Smells like many many men's scents I've smelled before. So I think it's a bit too expensive to justify, but I do find it refreshing and I think this is exactly what I'd want to wear on a sweltering hot day. As stated, this leans quite masculine. I am a very feminine woman but on a 40 degree day I'd definitely consider wearing this! Projection is pretty average, so is longevity. I got about 4-5 hours from this and it only projected for maybe the first 2. I like it and I much prefer it to Pacific Oak Moss, but I think there are better Goldfield scents.

Fresh, aromatic, faintly woody. Blue Cyprus is an assuredly sophisticated fragrance, a new take on the old-school barbershop scent for a younger demographic. Opening loud, there’s very little evolution to Blue Cyprus, more a mellowing. Fresh and aromatic from the start, the notes are so well blended as to be almost indistinguishable from one another. The aromatic accord is hard to describe, it feels like lavender, but I don't actually smell lavender. What I do get is a hint at wet patchouli with the savoury spiciness of clove over fresh cut cypress. The overall effect is one of airy cleanliness. I imagine this to be how the colour blue would smell so I find the name fitting. Blue Cypress is a youthfully outdoorsy aromatic. Absolutely unisex, this has year-round wearability. Longevity is moderate, sillage moderate-cum-soft. 7/10

Cooee, this perfume from 'straya is fair dinkum choc a bloc with coola cordial and will have you gobsmacked how much it's just like a great white taking a sticky beak at the esky for a frothy before going on smoko. You'll be in a good pozzie and having a ripsnorter, as when it drys down it reminds me of a time that this one sheila and a bloke were applying for the same job, but he had zilch on her experiences. Av a go of this one if you would chuck a sickie just to eat some lamingtons and pavlova at your mum's house. Bloody oath I don't want to rev you up too much, but if you prefer a tinnie in the shower then you better take a squiz. 8/10.

Blue Cypress is woodsy fresh, with a light, aquatic sweetness. Like a small, tree-lined meadow near the base of a mountain, with a burbling stream cutting through one corner. Springtime warm, friendly, and nature-clean. Strangely, the fragrance this reminds me of is 24 Ice Gold. Strange because the only note they have in common is patchouli. Ice Gold is more summery—woody warm instead of woodsy—but the overall impression is oddly similar. This is a decent fragrance for a man in search of an office-safe, fresh spring scent. However, for the price it’s kind of lackluster. There are definitely better options in a similar vein.

I have no idea why people think this smells like tzatziki....I'm at a loss where that connection comes from. I find it quite fresh and the cypress is great in the dry down. The soapy lavender also makes it likeable if that is your thing and for me, it clearly stands out. Now where I do agree with criticism is that this is quite weak. It does not have much staying power and I get maybe an hour or two out of it. I did purchase a full bottle because I had nothing similar in my collection but I am glad I only paid €70 for it. I'll enjoy it while I have it but wouldn't necessarily buy again.

A sort of semi-aquatic forest, fresh aromatic woody scent. A punchy cypress and lavender with a prominent "cool blue" showel gel accord running through it. Almost like cypress trees covered in blue raspberry slush. Moderate projection for ~2hr at best, longevity 8-10hr. Like a mixture of modern men's blue scents (Sauvage, BdC, Y, etc) with the latest trend of fresh spicy-woody scents (Dior Homme 2020, Burberry Hero, etc), though as a 2016 release this rather predates the latter trend. A bit synthetic, like blue raspberry flavoring is, but blue raspberry stuff is also delicious so...

Blue Cypress caught my attention right away! Very enjoyable. This is a lovely, long-lasting cypress, anise and lavender scent. It's not groundbreaking or unique, but it's pleasant and "safe" (so good for the office). This is also a perfect Summer scent. Sillage is very good in the first hour, and longevity is good, I can smell it on my skin 6h after spraying, but it's definitely only a skin scent. Blue Cypress could be the perfect, non citrusy Summer scent. I like it a lot.

Honestly a big fan of the smell, the issue is that it doesn't last at all. Went to a perfumery, smelt this on my skin and really enjoyed it, not realising it would disappear so quickly after trying it on. Lead me to buying the 100ml bottle and I've been pretty disappointed ever since. I don't think I'll be buying this again unfortunately, especially seeing as you could get a better performing, similar scent for a lot cheaper.

Great silage and longevity, reminded me of Acqua Di Gio but heavier, because it has more substance it makes it a good option for the transitional seasons and summer, whereas ADG really shines in the hot weather, it's lighter, fresher, and just all round gorgeous on a man. Blue Cypress is a lovely alternative with more depth for men, and the bottle is fantastic. Pacific Moss was kind of the same without the aquatic vibes.

Very pleasant, fresh and inoffensive. It doesn't last very long at all i found but a decent fragrance nonetheless! On a sidenote, does anyone else feel the longevity system should be tweaked a bit? 30 min to 1 hour for poor is hardly different to 1-2 hours for weak. For more accuracy, i would have it being- Poor- <2 HR Weak- 2-4 HR Moderate- 4-6 HR Long- 6-12 HR Very long- 12+

Gotta say, I feel pretty basic because I like this one. The cypress and lavender are what hit me the most. I'm a sucker for Japanese incense, and patchouli tends to be a note I enjoy. As other reviewers have said, this is a pretty pedestrian, inoffensive scent that would be present, but uncommented upon in an office. However, I don't love this one enough for $185.

In Back to the Future, Marty McFly went back thirty years, from 1985 to ‘55. If the movie was made today, that leap would take him back ... to the ‘90s. Feel old yet? Well if you’re going to pull a McFly now, this is the perfect fragrance to wear whilst back in the boy-band era. Unlike Marty’s Calvins this easy, clean aquatic CK-like scent will fit right in.

I see it get a lot of dislikes, but it’s really pleasant. I really get the cypress and think it would be great on a gloomy summer/spring/early fall day. I wouldn’t say Bohemian Lime is better, been trying to get into that but so far not too gripping. For reference, Pacific Rock Moss is by far the best thing from GFB, and I tested everything they have.

Woody and aquatic, with a breezy, slightly floral sweetness to it. I get a sort of electrolytic vibe from this, like the woodsy-fresh version of a clear, synthetic sports drink. Like summer at the lake house; laying on the dock with your wet hair in a colorful scrunchie, dripping hair-gel-scented water down your neck.

Smells fresh, decidedly green and a bit minty, leaning almost towards wintergreen (but isn't). Spearmint? Smells very wet, aquatic. Herbal notes come through. Reads as a summer fragrance. Certainly not bad, but reads kind of early 2000s, maybe a high schooler's fragrance. Not what I am looking for.

On my man, it smells like I've just opened my grandfather's medicine cabinet. Toothpaste, aftershave, eucalyptus oil. On me, I smell like I've stepped into my nana's car, with licorice and mints in the glove compartment. I love the nostalgic smell, but maybe not as an everyday perfume.

A nice cypress fragrance. I can smell cypress with a small touch of lavender. More for man, but do what you want! Fresh, this fragrance is adapted for spring and summer. An aftershave vibe... 6/10 --> For summer, in this brand, I prefer Pacific Rock Moss (an aquatic beautiful scent).

I'm (female) wearing this on a hot day and quite like this, even though it does remind me of aftershave. I liked Pacific Rock Moss, but that lasts all of 30 minutes on me, so this is a much better option.

The scent is a fresh, OK-ish typical masculine cologne profile. The longetivity is a shame in the G&B family - I put it on before the morning walk. When I was back, it was gone... Will not buy a bottle.

Surprised to see spearmint not listed. This is super nice. Unisex for sure. Super uplifting dumb reach. Might appeal more to a younger crowd, but as an older gent. I like it too

EA green tea for people who think they're too fancy (or masculine) for EA green tea (ftr I like it, more aquatic than I generally go for but refreshing and pleasant).

Initial cypress and anise kick is very pleasant Dry down a bit less Toned down spiciness and aromaticness Kind of reminds me of an artificial watermelon scent

Pretty nice scent, enjoy the way it transitions from the bright citrus notes and drys into a light but earthy patchouli and iso e super. Something different.

I bought a full bottle after spending awhile sampling their discovery set. The cypress, anise and mint are what drew me in. The main thing that sets Blue Cypress apart from many other similar men's fragrances is that it stays fresh and minty throughout it's wearing. Not a complex fragrance either which I also like about it. Starts off quite citrusy changing into a more minty-er scent. I also agree it smells like toothpaste or mouthwash lol, but I enjoy the freshness. However, my sample had way more cypress and anise which I really wanted. My full bottle is more citrus and mint. Longevity and sillage seem to be quite a bit less than my sample as well. At least I was able to buy it on sale and saved a couple bucks. I'll just overspray like a body spray and enjoy what I have.

I’m not too sure about this one. It seems like an incohesive clash of accords. From an outside sniff it smells pretty okay, nothing bad nor special. But the more I smell it I kind of get this pickle-y aspect. Despite the notes this has a very aquatic scent to me, it smells like if you scooped the seeds & gel out of a cucumber and maybe put a little sugar on it. Then there is also an aromatic/herbal essence too. I just think this slightly sweet aquatic gel like facet doesn’t mix well with the aromatic from the cypress lavender and patchouli. It’s not bad by any means but I jut don’t think it’s that good either. If someone was wearing this I would think they smelt nice and it’s nice and refreshing in the heat but I wouldn’t recommend it either. It’s just meh.

I find it interesting that the anise and cypress gave it an ocean-like feel to it, as I went into it expecting something like Neroli Portofino by TF, where it went too hard on the herbs but that wasn't as much the case here. I definitely get herbal notes still but they are very fresh almost a bit like parsley in a way. Not too dirty or strong which was nice. However, this still isn't really a love for me. It's at best okay and has almost no performance which certainly isn't justifiable for the price it's currently at.

[GFB Discovery 6 of 10] A fresh smelling, almost minty green scent. Pleasant enough, uplifting. Initial spice from anise really doesn't stick around. Dries down to a really baseline, overly generic 'this is a men's scent'. Feels like a safe/ unobtrusive aquatic scent, but they have done that better with Pacific Rock Moss in the same discovery set. A slight variation on flavour, while remaining a very minimalist and simple profile.

Pretty standard Chypre. I like to wear G&B in the spring & summer because the idea of wearing Australian niche perfumes in our unique climate appeals to me. I like to think they make these with a better understanding of our needs than overseas brands could. G&B fragrances are overpriced for what they are though.

Pretty bland , basic and safe imo. Not worthy of a niche designation. It’s cool but I mean, worthy a buy? Probably not. It’s a light blue fragrance with the floral peeking out of the wood base. The most prominent note is definitely the lavender. It smells like an air wick plug in but with wood infusion.

Feels like a medicinal cypress with fresh and citrusy aspect contradicted by the warmth of cloves and star anise which are soft in their appearance. I think it leans more male. It's a gentle, aquatic scent which is perfect for a daytime setting in the warm weather. Went on my husband's to-do list.

Hmm fruity fresh floral. It's extremely well blended. It's a dreamy and original scent. I think the star anis gives it a particular airyness that makes it feel extra pleasant. It's delightful but I tend to prefer perfumes that are more green or have a more natural feel to them.
