Rose Magnitude

I was lucky enough to be at the launch dinner for Rose Magnitude at Selfridge in London to experience the entire journey of the latest G&B scent and, as someone who has admittedly been skeptical about rose fragrances, I feel this is a very strong contender for something truly special. There is no denying that the focal point of this scent is a radiant and blooming rose, but it’s when it evolves and develops that it becomes something so unique, grounded and spiced but not in a conventional way. I feel that the cumin in this is so gloriously balanced, for a note that could risk being polarising, it is in fact the opposite, it melds beautifully with a smooth, velvety and plush floral, textured like suede. The citrusy fruity facets are exceptional here but definitely needed in my opinion, to counter the warmth and sweetness so as not to become too heavy or too dense. It wears with such a radiance and elegance but with a flair of playful sophistication. I so look forward to hearing how other feel about it in time because I think this is really one to watch in 2026 and a masterful creation by Clément Marx and Dimitri Weber

This is such a stunning interpretation of rose. Honestly... it left me almost speechless. The opening is bright, radiant, and undeniably sexy — the kind of first spray that instantly feels special. This is the type of scent I’d easily recommend for a once-in-a-lifetime occasion. Yes, it’s rich and on the heavier side, but never cloying. It feels full-bodied yet refined, bold yet surprisingly demure. Everything is well-balanced and beautifully composed. I’m x-rose hater, I really clap my hands for this perfume. I own 400+ perfume bottles and believe me it’s not easy to amaze me. This perfume is a hit for me.

A dark, jammy, woody rose. I was surprised in a good way. More complex than what I’ve come to expect from this house. Rose Magnitude is a distant male cousin to Lancôme Oud Bouquet, Andrea Mack Pavilion, MFK Oud Satin Mood, etc. Totally unisex. At first I was confused why this would be released in the early spring, as it seems better suited to fall and winter. And then I remembered it’s an Australian company, so it makes perfect sense why it was released now as the southern hemisphere moves into cooler weather. I find it interesting enough to set aside and revisit in October, when I think it will shine.

Rose Magnitude, first bloom before official release. A dense, resinous rose rendered in the signature Botanical Series style, textured, luminous, and quietly powerful. Not a jammy rose, not a syrupy rose. This is a structured rose, layered with balsamic depth, subtle woods, and a dry elegance that keeps it refined rather than loud. It shares the same architectural DNA as Silky Woods and Purple Suede, that rich, almost tactile density, but here the rose sits at the centre like polished velvet. Early impressions: composed, sophisticated, and unmistakably Goldfield & Banks.🌹 😍

Beautiful scent — Rosy, powdery, very calming, and completely unisex to my nose. I honestly don’t understand the negative reviews around this one. Some of the more positive impressions correctly highlight its quality, uniqueness, and comforting character, which makes perfect sense to me. My advice is to test it for yourself first, rather than letting other people’s negative opinions shape your perception of the fragrance in general but particularly of this gorgeous scent. 👃😌

Absolutely wonderful fragrance - a dry, dusty and slightly dirty rose with ochre undertones. I love roses that are different! I'm really enjoying this just off the sample and it's definitely full bottle worthy. I'm very happy about this because I've not got on with other G&B's fragrances, but this is the exception. Highly recommended - it really does smell like the dry and dusty ochre Australian outback!

Beautiful woody interpretation of rose, the slightly peppery opening which settles into a grounded spicy floral. I always bang on about not liking traditional rose scents but the fraghouses are doing it recently. Worth sampling first as this is not a regular rose. I will definitely be getting a bottle!

Love how woody it is, so many rose fragrances just dump a bunch of rose to a sickly degree and call it a day but this fragrance shows clear restraint and its quite nice. surprised that it also seem to lean to the masculine side of things imo but still works and a warming unisex scent. light 8/10

It reminds me of the dior homme perfume but with a shade of dark roses, very strongly possible to i toxic those around you, dry down leaves a smell of violet and rose, a rich, unique and elegant smell

An astonishing scent. Love this beautiful Rose which is so original, one of a kind on the market! A refined drydown with a wonderful sillage. Definitely my signature scent for a loooong time!

I received a sample of this and I didn't know what to expect having not tried anything from the brand before. I should really check them out, because Rose Magnitude is very captivating. The first few minutes of the opening are sharp incensey, smells almost like a rose on fire. Then you are left with the ashes of the rose, on a bed of spicy amber. Powdery in the best way, it is extraordinarily beautiful, unlike anything I've smelled before. It's going on my cold weather must haves.

Stole my wife's sample, she will never get it back. It is paper, sandlewood and sweet. It has a rose undertone that compliments the sweetness. Not great silage that seems to be a running trend with goldfield and banks. Please make larger big smells hey. The wood smells Australian for some reason. Like waking up to backburns in the distance city.

Rose Magnitude opens with a nice Raspberry and Geranium for 20minutes before moving to Rose and about one hour later to a very syrupy and cozy tonka and vanilla. The drydown reminds me of a lighter PDM Oajan. I got the tester and it is a good fragrance but I would only buy the 10ml. The drydown is just nothing special, the opening is very nice.

Got a sample of this one with my byredo FB purchase, and I must say I like it.

I received a free sample from Goldfield & Banks last week and was very curious to try it. The scent was way different from what I expected. The opening has a darker, slightly boozy whiskey character that reminded me a bit of Gentleman Reserve Privée. On my skin, the scent smells a little bit harsh and heavy. However, in the air, I get sniffs of more fruity and smoother notes. It’s very well made, and the fragrance performs very well. Around 10hours on my skin with a moderate projection. To my nose, it leans more masculine than feminine, and my wife agreed. Overall, it’s an interesting and well-crafted fragrance. But not my personal preference, so I won’t be buying a full bottle. In my opinion, it’s more appropriate for cooler weather.

First impressions: Much heavier and more unisex than I was expecting. I really enjoy the opening. However, something in the mid becomes overpowering and a little harsh. Further into the dry down everything smooths out again and this develops a slight sweetness. The sandalwood doesn’t pull herbaceous and pickle-y, but it’s extremely woody. Not an instant love, but I can see how it might grow on me. It’s currently spring where I live, and I will revisit my sample in the fall.

Opens synthetically sweet from the raspberry (but my nose always depicts raspberry to be synthetic smelling in fragrances) and almost chalky from the violet and iris, with a faint hint of rose. I didn't pick up any ginger, geranium or cumin. Dries down to a nice sweet powdery warm woody profile, with rose barely even detectable. Am I cooked or is there not much rose in this for a rose fragrance?

Honestly, I’m a bit disappointed. It’s a nice, dark rose fragrance, but it’s nothing I haven’t smelled before. It reminds me of some L’Atelier Parfum “Dose of Rose”. It also reminds me of Rose Anonym by Atelier Cologne. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love G&B and own 8 full size perfumes from their collection, but this one just isn’t pulling me in.

I do NOT enjoy rose in my fragrances, but it was a free sample in my order, so here it goes. I like how the raspberry makes the rose a little jammy, I like how it's a sweeter rose, but the cumin and wood don't let it get too sweet. Wouldn't buy a full bottle, but will use up the sample.

I'm getting a rosy incense and it's just ok. I'm a huge Ingenious Ginger fan and was excited when I saw this contained Ginger, but I get none of it. I am glad I bought a sample first as I would be disappointed.

Surprisingly, I'm not getting much of rose or fruit from it. It's a decent woody, male-leaning fragrance, but nothing special and completely different from what I expected

My first experience with this brand and it's really disappointing. I get rose, powder and smoke incense and nothing else for 2 hrs. Arabian dupes do this better as they have more longevity and are cheaper. It's the smell you get walking into an importers that sells cheap incense sticks. I didn't hate it at first but wasn't enjoying it. You can buy an incense oil that is exactly this for less. Try before you buy. I thought this was going to be linear. But after 2 hrs the cumin raises it's sharp and sweaty head. Yuck. As soon as I got home I sprayed another perfume on top and I can still smell the staleness. It's quite masculine and very dry. I usually love dry perfumes but not this. I'm not sure how anyone can smell sweetness or vanilla. This smells cheap and nasty to my nose. There are cheaper perfumes that smell better. Hoping their woody scents are better than this for the price I'll be handing my sample along to friends.

Not what I expected at all. It makes me feel nauseas as there is a strong leather accord present on my skin that gets stronger as it dries down. The rose is jammy sweet with some fruitiness in the background. I can smell the woodiness but the rest sort of feels hard to pick apart due to the leather coming through. Really reminds me of Mancera Aoud Exclusif after about 10 minutes. Very middle eastern smelling. Is this the same perfume? I really dislike leather in fragrance so take it as you will.

The sample just arrived, the expectations were high, and the disappointment enormous. The last few perfumes from this house are a disaster in my opinion. I must have several perfumes created in Saudi Arabia that are almost identical to this one, I don't know which ones they are right now, but when I find out I will write. I think I will stop being curious about everything related to this perfume house.:(

This is not my thing. This fragrance felt muddled together. The opening and the mid were very lack luster and smelt like a warm vinyl lunch lady glove (no offense to the front line school lunch ladies). The dry down was the only decent part of the fragrance where it became slightly vanillic on my skin. This is probably my least favorite fragrance from Goldfield & Banks followed by Pacific Rock Moss.

This opens up too sugary and simple, like an early 2000s body spray or celebrity fragrance. Quickly becomes a leather bomb with undertones of rose and floor cleaner. Not my favorite.

a rose-oud-ish scent like there are quite a few already out there, brings nothing new and smells pretty animalic

I'm with the others that get a strong leather (almost a barnyard oud-like) smell from this. In fact that's about all I got for the first 20 minutes on my skin. Those are not notes I enjoy, so this was a scrubber for me. Very bummed because the notes sounded beautiful. Thankfully I only got a small decant. Edit: I asked both my sons to try this as well. One had the same "yuck" reaction I did, smelling only leather, oud, and a hint of rose. My other son liked it, saying it smelled like a fruity rose. So clearly different noses pick up different notes. But the take-away here is that this is definitely not a blind-buy safe fragrance.

This is a no for me, even though I love the brand and usually enjoy rose fragrances. On my skin, this leans heavily into a dusty, powdery territory that reminds me of a Yankee Candle rather than a luxury perfume. I suspect the geranium and cumin are what’s throwing the whole composition off for me.

I was so excited to try this so I sprayed it all over my wrists. It is so strong and I pick up on a leather note which I can't stand. I scrubbed it off with soap, but still the scent lingered all day. Not a safe blind buy.

Got a bottle a week or so ago and absolutely love it. I get the hate as it was marketed as a rose fragrance but on my skin the tonka beans and amber notes are very evident after a couple of being the central scent. The opening notes fade in the background leaving a very pleasant amber scent which imo is better long term compared to having the fresh rosy notes take the spotlight. If you’re looking for a heavy rose fragrance this is not the one but, that said, it’s a beautiful scent.

I just received my sample of this today and was really looking forward to trying it. I had high hopes for this one.🌹 It’s nice, but on first instance it’s as if they just got Purple Suede and added a rose note. And then as if they combined that with Tales of Amber and added an extra dose of mineral note. And there it stays. Sueded rose and mineralic. Only the tiniest hint of sweetness under there somewhere. I guess they would all be good for layering. A little disappointed.

I bought a 2ml sample from the G&B website. Initial impression is that the opening is very harsh with a leathery smell. This harsh "leather" softens after 10 minutes, with raspberry coming through along with the tonka, which reminds me for some reason of strawberry Campino candy. The "leather" dries down and becomes woody and spiced after around 40 minutes. Unfortunately, I don't get as much rose from this as I wanted.

I got a sample and had it shipped internationally. Needless to say I had high hopes given rose is my favorite note. This smells like a dusty old DRY wood cabinet that stores incense sticks for a good hour without much of anything else. Didn't detect rose other than cabinet. Glad I didn't blind buy, the ad was so promising..

Oh well...I thought this was going to be a nice "Rose" scent. I get a ton of woody notes and maybe cypriol? followed by a very harsh chemical, it feels like Ambroxan mixed with Amberwoods... It is harsh, chemical, and very potent. Smells toxic.

It is very nice rose-incense kind of scent. Niche quality. To me it is so familiar but I couldn’t really link it to a similar scent. I would say somewhat a rosy TF oud wood? Still it is very nice, very addictive.

The scent is somewhere between Byredo Reine de Nuit and Tobacco Mandarin. It is dominated by notes of rose, sandalwood (with an amyris-like oiliness), and papyrus.

Smells like fruity suede. Reminds me of a Xerjoff I can't for the life of me remember. Too masculine and heavy for my taste.
