Wood Infusion

Full disclosure: I am Australian and I am possibly at the younger end of their target market. All of Goldfield & Banks fragrances contain a special kind of Aussie nostalgia which is instantly recognisable to me, so scent-wise I'd say that they are bang on the money. This scent in particular is sweet, woody and warm with a permeating vibration of something aquatic. We aren't wandering deep into the bush, but are hiking somewhere along the sun-drenched south coast. The orange/ lavender/ iris combo is such a refreshing compliment to the oud and wood notes, it's delicious! I would say that the amber is there but only as a hint of something sweet and warm lingering in the background. In other words, this fragrance is true to its notes and the scent itself is something special but not quite daringly niche. It is a totally and completely wearable wood scent, possibly even worthy of a blind buy but I'd definitely recommend getting their sample pack to test it out. Of all the scents, I would say this is my second favourite and would give it an 8/10 because the opening and dry down are so blissfully pleasant and very natural smelling. Now, let's talk about performance issues. I'm partial to a beast-mode fragrance and particularly at this price point I would expect something approaching all day longevity. I had to spray literally half the sample vial (a total of 1ml roughly) in order to project at an acceptable yet inoffensive level and got around 2 hours projection then perhaps another couple hours as a skin scent. I sprayed it on my skin AND my clothes on a warm day. Obviously crazy performance is not what they are going for, so if that's what you want then you will be sorely disappointed. Possibly this is targeted as an easy daywear fragrance for Toorak/ Double Bay residents who can afford to wear Tom Ford on the regular. For me, this just doesn't quite hit the mark and I can think of dozens of brands at the same price point who will get me further. I am placing G&B in the overpriced yet artfully done category. If they ever succeed in producing a performance monster with this level of nostalgia I think they'll be ripe to dominate the niche Australian market.

Inspired by the world’s largest sand island: Fraser Island off the coast of Queensland, Wood Infusion by Goldfield and Banks is paradise in a bottle. It perfectly represents the light and the dark, the heat and the cool, the pleasantness and the undoubtable harshness of the Australian climate. A fragrance of definite contrasts, Wood Infusion was composed by Hamid Merati from Firmenich, blending the creamy sweetness of Australian-grown Santalum album, as well as earthy, buttery iris and dark, peppery, agarwood (oud). The effect is sublime. A fragrance which has strength and solidity, a fragrance of contrasts. The sandalwood is the light and the oud, the darkness. Throughout the wearing, I’m experiencing alternating waves of the two, but the iris keeps this scent grounded and wearable. Completely versatile, I’ve worn this scent on cool days and it’s been cosy and comforting. Conversely, in the heat of the Australian summer, it shimmers and becomes luminous as the woods are warmed by the sun. As with all products from this house, composition, longevity and sillage are outstanding. As the old saying goes “you get what you pay for”. Disclosure: I was sent a sample of this product before writing this review. I still always write honestly about a product and describe honestly how I perceive it!

Instant favorite!! What you get is a caramelized soft oud infused with lavender and iris... deliciously gourmand! It’s sweet, but not too sweet... it’s not citrusy nor fruity... it’s just a very aromatic amazingly blended wood perfume. Imagine Kalan from Parfums de Marly... now dial it down until it actually smells nice... scratch nice, exquisite... and that’s Wood Infusion. This can easily be a signature scent, or an everyday scent, it won’t offend anyone and even people who don’t like oud might find themselves liking this fragrance. Unfortunately, softening heavy accords never helps with projection or longevity... and this perfume is no exception... it radiates within arms length for the first hour, and it seems to be gradually disappearing... by the third hour the perfume’s projection is completely intimate, and by the fourth it has completely disappeared... really sad because it’s an amazing scent. My favorite perfume so far from Goldfield & Banks... although it really lacks on performance.

Opens with a blast of warm,sweet,spicy orange. Warms down to rich yet fresh woodiness. I couldn't detect any iris but the lavender keeps it crisp,with a slightly medicinal vibe. The lasting base notes are a well blended mix & very long lasting. I'm not a fan of oud based perfumes but here it's very subtle,letting the warmer amber & sandalwood be more detectable. The orange notes stay throughout,keeping it fresh but still spicy. Longevity & projection are amazing,on me about 6 - 8 hours. Hard to find in UK but worth seeking out.In Fortnum & Mason approx. £150. If you want similar but a lot cheaper try Zino by Davidoff or go sweeter with Armani Code Profumo. The other frags. from G&B are also great,espcially Pacific Rock Moss. Although all the frags. from G&B are classed as unisex,IMO they are all very masculine.

I got a travel size of this and immediately bought a full bottle. With this being called Wood Infusion, you would assume it would be a heavy wood bomb but it's really not. I am a lover of skin scents and I think this sits in that catergory, it doesn't smell perfumey, it just smells like YOU smell really good. It smells like a sweet addictive ambery iris musk but rather than being an airy clean watery iris musk, the lavender and oud although not really detectable play a part in making it a sweet, deep, warm, ambery, musk and iris. I feel this is not marketed correctly because skin scent girlies are missing out on this one.

If you don't like the harshness and loudness of Ombre Nomade this is a great alternative. It has a sweeter and fruiter opening than LV but it has the same smooth slightly woody dry down just not as oud forward as ombre Nomade is. It still has the classy natural smell as well. Decent projection and longevity... not nearly as strong as LV though. I love it because of the very smooth woods as well as being my first oud forward fragrance. 9.5/10

I have fallen in love with Wood Infusion over time. At first, I found it off-putting. It was more punchy and light than my other wood/oud perfumes, but after a month I love it. It's lighter and has a sparkle like a spritz of orange rind over a cocktail and ends with a clean amber, sweet woody base. Great for an uplifting slightly woody day or night scent. Almost prefer this over the Silky Woods which is more a rich, soft vanilla fragrance.

I got a sample and sprayed this properly on my boyfriend as the notes are not really something I would wear myself. and... I LOVE it on him. Intensively fresh (I wouldn’t say sharp) fragrance. Kinda herbal - presumably due to lavender. I may consider getting a full bottle of this one for him instead of the Southern Bloom for myself.

Very soft woodsy smell with a hint of citrus. I love this scent and feel like I definitely need to apply heavier for a decent effect, definitely not worried about people being offended. I think it will match great with other fragrances!

This is a beautiful fragrance, and leans slightly feminine on my skin contrary to other reviewers stating it leans masculine for them. It is an amber-heavy scent to me, with woody and floral undertones as well as a creaminess.

woody & warm spicy, leather isn't listed as a note but as liam04 said, it has a suede-like quality. the orange, lavender, wood, and oud notes are well blended and balance each other out.

There's something quite sweet, almost caramel smell on top of the miscellaneous exotic wood smell and subtle oud. Unexpectedly gourmand. Unisex but leans masculine. This is very nice.

How on earth is this a 3.5? My husband sampled this and absolutely fell in love and my son smelt it on him and said he smelled so good. It's soft and gentle wood. So nice

The orange in the opening is great. Much more pleasant compared to Terre d'Hermes Parfum Hermès for men. Love the oud in this one.

#54 When I sprayed this one on in-store, I thought I had smelt it somewhere previously but after it tried down and I gave it a couple hours it flourished into a spicy, sort of powdery, smooth wood. I was really surprised to see that leather wasn't listed as a note here in the breakdown, it had that suede-like quality. I enjoy this, I think it's a perfect evening fragrance that balances the seasons quite well. You could get away with this in at least 3 seasons on a night out, it does have a freshness to it. Performance on this is strange, I had it on my hand & went swimming in the ocean, followed by a chlorine pool & even after that, it stuck around on my skin standing over the chlorinated smell, I was pretty impressed. Next day, I could barely smell it after about two hours of applying it, perhaps I was just anosmic? So I would say It has decent longevity, I got up to 7 hours on skin & projects great especially for the first few hours. I'll have to sit on my tester for a few more wears before committing to a full bottle though.

Goldfield & Banks Wood Infusion is a nicely modern fresh spicy resinous woody scent that could easily be part of a men’s collection in a variety of houses, mixing together what is presumably a variety of woods (based on the note listing) with iris, oud, lavender, patchouli, and amber, mainly. It opens brightly and dries down more darkly but has a similar-enough character throughout, a bit sharp but multifaceted and nuanced, seemingly a cousin of Tom Ford Oud Wood. Though it’s nothing terribly new, I still quite like it and it’s a very sturdy offering in within a line that otherwise does not include wood-heavy fragrances. The current pricing for most of the main collection is $190 for 100ml and is sold at US boutiques like Perfumology, and like most of the line, it performs quite well, and the value is very good. 7 out of 10

This is my go-to for a sweet woody fragrance. I love it though I don't wear it often. I often want something bolder but when you don't know what will be appropriate, or you are indecisive, this is such a wonderful thing to have in the collection. I'm not expert at "finding" every note in a scent, but I believe the profile above is quite a good representation. The wood is the prime component though and it's a very friendly, approachable wood--so if oud scares you, don't let it be a deterrent to trying. I also really like this for wearing to bed--I like drifting off smelling something that isn't wild or exciting (cuz after all, you're supposed to be sleeping) but it's still a mood lifter.

Might be my favourite GF&B that I've sprayed on skin. I can see why people describe it as a bit generic but there's always something there which grabs at my attention. I can't imagine there's any real oud here but there's an animalic quality to balance out the more mass-appealing lavender/amber combo. And a bit of iris NEVER hurts. Pretty good, keeping my eye on this. EDIT: On second sample, too sweet during to the opening and mid. The drydown is the best part. Too expensive for what it is, but I don't mind it. EDIT2: I've flipped on this, it smells soooo good. Mass appealing and nothing wrong with that. Not unique, but definitely more elevated than your standard designer scent.

@Michelle Perfectly put "traditionally masculine". Wood Infusion truly has this traditionally masculine vibe, it is woody/floral scent with a slight soapy barbershop vibe because of lavender. Interestingly to my nose it really resembles of Reveal by Calvin Klein, just with more woodsy nuances, added Oud accord and less sweetness. I find it mainly as a masculine scent, strong woodsy scent spiced with florals, in addition the performance is really good. Great scent, but it is not my favorite from the line-up, hands down my favorites are Desert Rosewood and Pacific Rock Moss. A silky smooth, mild and versatile wood-oudh fragrance. It goes on like a smooth butter, using soft iris and musk to create a comforting, satiny finish on the light wood and oudh. Over time the oudh becomes more prominent, but it remains as that light and versatile, any weather, any situation type of smooth woody perfume. This one from G&B is a favourite for many. Wood Infusion would be a great option for a crowd pleasing and non offensive scent with that something that still sets you apart from the crowd. I'm wearing it on a slightly humid day today and it feels light enough, and I can imagine it would still feel comforting and appropriate during cooler months.

Cooee, this perfume from 'straya is fair dinkum choc a bloc with wet verandah smells and will have you gobsmacked how much it's just like a spider explaining how she can get mates rates on her new sunnies, but coming off clear as mud. You'll be in a good pozzie and having a ripsnorter, as when it drys down it reminds me of a time that this one sheila and a bloke were both devo when the tradie said he would play it by ear in relation to fixing their deck. Av a go of this one if you would chuck a sickie just to eat some snags and pies. Bloody oath I don't want to rev you up too much, but if you prefer choccy milk then you better take a squiz. 8/10.

It’s good but it’s not amazing. The oud is definitely not a focus although it’s been voted as the second most prominent accord? People have said that this is a great alternative to Seminalis by Orto Parisi and while they have a similar creaminess and woodiness, Seminalis is far more sensual and lactonic whilst Wood Infusion is a bit more cloying to me, with a greater focus on the woody side. Good fragrance, good longevity, good sillage, best for cold weather. In a warmer climate this is headache inducing.

I bought this after receiving a sample from a friend who isn't into masculine scents and loving it. Coming here to write my review, I was shocked to see that it's supposed to have citrus and lavender in it at all. On my skin (which, to be fair, does tend to completely eat "clean" notes and warms every scent up), it's all oud and a sexy, dirty musk, long-lasting and masculine without smelling like "dad cologne". A great cool-weather scent for those who want to venture outside of the ordinary floral woods.

This is a really nice woody scent and I really enjoy it. I think it leans more on a masculine side, but can be easily worn by women. There is something astringent about it which lasts a long time and I don't really mind it completely, but it is just enough to stop me from considering having the big bottle. I find woods combined with powdery iris quite interesting, I must say. I don't think I've ever seen this before. Oud is quite dominant and lovely and I also enjoy the spicy aspect of it.

I feel like the term "oud" sets and expectation of luxurious woody deep complex smells and to me this is just straight wood. Like shoving your face into a rack of freshly split firewood with earth clinging to the bark and your grandmother just came over to stand next to you and ruin it with her powdery iris perfume. I like it as much as I can like something with iris. It sits on the top in this which is unfortunate cause the woodiness and patchouliness underneath is lovely

This is so lovely in the opening. Orange with a slightly sweet, woody background. The opening is 10/10. But the orange dissipates (on my skin) and only a really elegant, but definitely masculine, woody skin scent is left. It does last for quite a while, this skin scent (12 hours). Really sad for me because I fell in love and made plans. This sample is from the Goldfield and Banks discovery kit purchased from a high end retailer, so I don't think it was compromised.

It starts promising.. sweet woody and also the dark woody base is rising with every minute.. but then, the creamy yummy iris pops in and that’s where it becomes niche perfumery for me! But I spoon to soon. From that moment it fades away, the woodyness gets very soft and fades, the dark tones? Where are you? What happened? It keeps a mystery for me why this perfume is unfinished or let’s say, why it can’t hold it together. Fits any season except high heat

This smells amazing. However, longevity is absolutely HORRIBLE. 3 of my friends have it as well as me, and Wood Infusion lasts for probably 2-3 hours and then becomes a skin scent or is sometimes completely gone. I normally never go above 4 sprays for any perfume but for this one, I go 5-6 sprays (Not a thing in my country to smell overly perfumed). However, it smells very good, I use it for office and something quick and easy. I like it!

Starts off with a blast of wood, like walking into a woodworking shop. Then settles into a warm woody floral scent, with the lavender and iris coming through. Gets a bit musky after 4ish hours. Lasts about six hours in total, although only projects for the first three. All round a nice, warm, woody scent; nice for those who like woods but don’t want something too smoky or heavy. Unisex.

I'm really in love with this one. I never really thought I enjoyed woody notes specifically but this may be the one to make me discover that I do like them. Only thing that kind of sucks is that this is too masculine for me to pull off wearing in public but I can appreciate this one for what it is. I think it's super comforting and arguably one of the better fragrances from this line

Soft, sweet lavender-iris combo backed by oud. Shades of OG Dior Homme if you replaced the cedar and vetiver with a distinctly dark earthy and faintly camphorous agarwood. Pungent opening but the oud settles quickly, giving way to the creamy iris with a fresh orangey top coat, grounded by a sweet amber and patchouli base. Moderately strong projection for 2-3hr, longevity 8-10hr.

Soft, woody fragrance that required repeat applications after an hour. 'Wood Infusion' is a subtle, complex scent which can be sprayed liberally without offending anyone. I live in a cooler climate, which this fragrance seems to pair well with. I recommend this fragrance, but I much prefer Goldfield & Banks’ ‘Desert Rosewood' above this particular fragrance.

This is a surprise. I was expecting "wood shop" and instead I am getting "berries and cream." It smells like a dryer, softer Bath & Body Works Twilight Woods mixed with Serge Lutens Feminite du Bois. That's not an insult! TW is heavy on the coconut. Not coconut here thankfully. Update: longevity was very good and projection was great! I may get a FB.

Very subtle and enjoyable. it's nothing crazy or mind blowing, just a simple enjoyment of a fragrance, that can go either way ( for a man or woman ) Subtly woody with lavender wrapping around it. Fall time to try, but for the price and it being just an enjoyable fragrance, try before buying for the price it is.

This one reminds me of Vanhera by Laboratorio Olfattivo but maybe a bit sharper and no vanilla. I kinda like it although I am hesitant to try it on my skin because it seems like it might be the kind of fragrance that would have a sharp persistent drydown that you find so often in masculine perfumes

It straight away reminded me a fruity Silky Woods, they both have a similarly rich, oud, sugary sweet body. BUT don't be fooled - this part lasts about an hour. It then goes into a generic, sweetened ISO E SUPER heavy dry down. Sad.

For oud lovers. A bold and potent fragrance, perfect for fall and winter. Oud and wood are the stars. With my skin, it is more masculine, so --> for my husband! Not for office and not safe blind buy. 7/10 for my husband

First impressions: It’s not too woody for me it’s just the right amount of woody. It’s just that woody perfumes can smell too masc and this is still one of them. Not a bad thing tho.

Very nice. Basic but thats not a bad thing, while its basic it still retains very high quality notes that stand out however just very simple.

[GFB discovery 7 of 10] Opens with a sweet mandarin like citrus smell and like our funk under it, very light. Then begins to morph and smells almost like a blueberry preserve. Powdery notes from the iris begin to appear, and then to warms up with creamy sandalwood. Sweetness starts to dissipate. Last to join is a spicy cedar smell, and it sits about even with the sandalwood. Barely a skin scent after 3 hrs. Really got to search for that slightly lingering cedar note after that. A shame that so far the best of this discovery set I've tried, has a relatively weak longevity (the others have been better). Not a stand out scent, but a very pleasant one. I think I'll need to try these all again in the hot months, given they are an Aussie brand. Or at least the top few again. See if they get new life.

This is beautiful - it's a people pleasing creamy woody scent (the orris is really working on my skin). It's gorgeous. Sadly this does not project or last. I really have to overspray the sample I have to get any projection out of this fragrance, and 2 hours in I need a reapplication. 4 hours in, it's completely gone. I have fragrances with similar scent profiles that last 12+ hours on my skin, and days on clothing, for less money. The only way I will buy a full size is if this is on serious discount, or it's reformulated to be stronger and last longer. The only reason this gets a 3 star is because I really do like the scent.

Not trying to be rude or anything, but those sliders detailing masculine/feminine are a little off. I'd much rather smell this on a woman than myself or another man. Maybe the way to explain this sentiment is: This is a unisex fragrance that's feminine forward, with masculinity in the back. It's a nice fragrance though, can understand the support for it. Probably around a 3.8ish for a man, 4.4ish for a lady. The more you smell it, the more you can think of it as masculine though; sweetness into amber into wood.

If there is another universe wherein everything is made entirely of wood down to the last atom, every man, woman and child, every house, every street, cats, dogs, etc, then this must be a snapshot of a ladies' powder room in such a universe. The ethereal quality of the woodliness does not escape me, nor does the almost singular pursuit of smelling like a log that this scent forever hounds. TLDR; if you're after a cute tradie girl who loves her hardware stores, why not smell like the wood plank aisle of one?

It’s a pretty stock standard scent. Slightly floral and woody, not offensive to anyone. A people pleaser scent that can be used in any situation. Unfortunately the lasting power and projection is terrible, so will not be buying a full size, but great if you need something office friendly and don’t mind reapplying every 3 hours. Lasting power on clothing is also terrible, so definitely not worth the price. Gone in 4 hours. Can’t even smell it the next day.

I find this fragrance really intriguing. A bit sharp at the start with the orange and lavender, but it all smooths out after a short while. Creamy is the key word here. Creamy sandalwood, creamy oud, and creamy chocolately patchouli all grounded by amber and musk. Not sure it's my thing exactly (I'm not the biggest fan of lavender) but it's one of my favorites from the G & B discovery set. I will revisit this in the autumn.

I dont know how to describe this smell, wood but its very sweet. Its like of like TF oud wood but replace the medicinal saltiness with a white flower creamy vanillic sweetness. I wouldn't say this a fresh or clean smelling one. Longevity was awful, couldn't smell after an hour but did project decent. The smell just wasn't that interesting im not buying more after this sample.
