Magnolia Violet

I needed to make a choice (blind-buy) on whether to purchase Good Chemistry's Magnolia Violet, Vanilla Orchid, Wild Child, and Jasmin Rose. Based on reviews, I almost decided against purchasing Magnolia Violet but ended up purchasing them all. The mixed reviews leaned a little too much to people saying Magnolia Violet (MV) smelled like something an older crowd would wear, as well as likening it to fragrances from the 90s. I just wasn't sure about buying something that would smell so mature on me. I received my purchase two days after placing my order. As soon as I sprayed it, I thought...what are they talking about, this is a beautiful scent! (Followed by...I totally shouldn't have purchased the Vanilla Orchid. Different review for that one). MV is fresh, clean, soft, and there's such a lovely balance between the magnolia and violet, neither of the notes is too dominant. I think the amber is what gives it that creamy finish that comes out more on the dry-down. There is something powdery about it--I typically steer clear of powdery perfumes because they rarely smell nice on the dry-down (to me). I am eternally grateful that this one has a clean, soft, and pleasant powdery dry-down. MV has definitely made my "I LOVE" list. I can see myself repurchasing it. Two things I hope GC will work on: 1) Denatured alcohol, the very first ingredient in their perfume line, is actually bad for the skin. To label a fragrance as Vegan means it shouldn't have any chemicals that have a negative effect on the skin. I certainly appreciate that they don't have the other nasty chemicals every other perfume I own has, but hopefully, they can find safer alternatives for the Alcohol Denat. 2) I hope they add lotions to their collection. This may help with perfume longevity throughout the day.

This is a masterpiece and smells way more expensive than it is. This is an aquatic floral that reminds me of a more Violet version of Daisy by Marc Jacobs. And even though is has floral notes, I'd put this firmly in the clean girl scent category. Of course because its nontoxic it doesn't last as long as some other perfumes, but if I spray this on my clothes it last about 4 hours, before I have to reapply. And for the price I don't mind. The beginning that beautiful trio of bright and well balanced violent, magnolia and peony. Then as that settles the amber comes out more. It has a light sophisticated soapyness in the dry down as well that reminds me slighly of the soapy quality of Myth by Ellis Brooklyn.

[Review for the body mist.] I had to stop using regular ol' perfumes and switch to strictly paraben free and vegan fragrances due to my skin developing a such an intense fragrance sensitivity that a well-used and well-loved perfume like Daisy from Marc Jacobs would burn and turn my skin red like a rash. Having to cease applying Daisy for the sake of my skin's health absolutely gutted me. That is until today! Magnolia Violet smells indistinguishable (albeit more fresh-floral, less green) from Daisy to my nose, and I couldn't be more elated. 💖🧚 A fragrance suitable for your inner fairy princess. 🧚💖

This ones really good. Very floral and fresh, like FRESH. Smells like clean soap or a luxurious bathroom. I can smell the powdery notes everyone else is talking about. When you first apply it, the note won't be there but after the dry down it'll show. It smells like warm laundry exhaust pumping out the side of a building on a cloudy foggy day. Its worth it especially for the price. Probably will become one of my go-to's. Pick it up its a very safe buy.

It's a haunting kind of fragrance. It reminds me of Gothic romance. Like bruised flowers eager to be kissed before it's last goodbye. Floral and with the amber it makes for a wilting kind of floral, and there's a bit of dewyness in this. I like this during autumn when it dreary, cold and All Hallows Eve is round the corner.

Love this scent! So floral, fresh and airy! I feel like it boosts my energy every time I wear this, makes me feel pretty and happy. Great for spring. It reminds me of Chance Chanel eau Tendre,which I also have and love, kind of the same fresh,floral and bright type of scent.

Shocked that I can love anything from Target, honestly. This is beautiful, sweet, floral, green, powdery goodness. I agree with others about performance (not long-lasting; projection is just OK.) Cheap enough to try it without too much risk.

I love this perfume! I had a travel size and recently purchased a full bottle. This is such a pretty violet. I also recently purchased SDJ violet mist but it is very sugary compared to this one.

Smells so good. To me it's very simular Channel Tendre and Marc Jacob's Perfect toilet and Marc Jacobs Perfect regular.

This smells to me like if Marc Jacobs Daisy were a shampoo. It's delicious and fresh upon first spray, a shampooey fresh cool floral that makes me smell clean. However, these fresh top notes don't last longer than about 30 mins and it then dries down into a sugary amber that smells kind of generic. I wish that initial smell would last the whole time because it is truly delicious! But this is a common sacrifice made in perfumes without deadly chemicals. This scent was my favorite of the good chemistry discovery set.

I knew from the first spray it reminded me Daisy from Marc Jacobs. I think this one is much cleaner. I personally love the opening notes of Daisy but the dry down is not good to me. This one is not the case. The opening is amazing and the dry down smells clean, kinda soapy or like fabric softener. It smells very good and I think it's great to refreshen your clothes or pillows but i personally can't see myself wearing this everyday.

Linda K - Denatured alcohol is fine for your skin in the amounts in a fragrance. That is 100% not the definition of vegan. Nail polish remover is vegan, while honey is not. There are not "nasty chemicals" in your fragrances if purchased in recent decades. Everything is a chemical - including water. Don't fall for these silly marketing buzz words, friends:)

This is definitely in the same scent family as MJ Daisy, but this one has more powdery violet notes and is a tad sweeter with less green notes. However, in less than 5 minutes it became a skin scent that you could only smell with your nose pressed against the wrist - and I’m sensitive to fragrance. I was glad I grabbed the travel size & not a full size.

I got this perfume at sprouts it smells like a floral shampoo that you can get at a store, but that amber note smells so delicious. I like the bottle though. but I'm sad it doesn't last long :(. I'll stick to it for now while I save up money to buy a good perfume.

I sampled a few of the Good Chemistry fragrances at Target. Magnolia Violet is powdery and fresh with a warm amber dry down. Great for the price!

I just tried this at Target and this is surprisingly lovely! A nice balance between the violet and magnolia.

It's floral and girly, I love the scent just wish it lasted longer.

Meh! Silage and longevity are nice, but the fragrance smells very common and generic. My nose does not pick up peony, nor the amber. I've had this for a few years, and only have worn it twice. Just not a special fragrance...

I wanted to like this, but unfortunately something about it starts to smell “dusty” on my skin, and there’s no longevity or projection.

Y'all, this is MUSKY, even though musk is not a listed note. All I get is some violet in the opening, a bit of amber in the dry down, and overwhelming musk throughout. The magnolia and peony are so subtle that they might as well not even be there.

This is amazing. I am, quite frankly, shocked at how much I love this fragrance. In recent years, my fragrance taste has shifted. I was a total gourmand, vanilla, sweeter-the-better kind of gal, but that has changed, to my own surprise. I had a health issue that completely changed the way I am able to handle fragrances. I CANNOT do anything synthetic. So, I’ve been trying out brands that are cleaner. This fragrance and brand has blown my mind!!!! How can something so simple and “linear” be so incredibly pleasing? I don’t get it but am flabbergasted in the best way. Magnolia violet is soft. It’s a fresh floral with the most reserved sweet notes (I can’t do overly sweet any longer). It is just simply lovely. My husband, who cannot do heavy florals, always comments about how nice it is. Whenever I hug a friend, I hear, oh hey you smell so good!! This is a safe, clean, and really lovely fragrance. And if, like me, you’re looking for a less chemical fragrance experience, I urge you to give it a try. It’s beautiful. 💙🤍💜

I really like this perfume a lot, and I love that it is available in a perfume roll-on for $12! I have a little bit of an obsession with perfumes, so I really try to only buy smaller bottles anymore to justify adding anything to my collection! This perfume is a really pretty, feminine scent that isn't overly floral despite the name of the fragrance. I have had this for over a week now, and I am realizing that this one reminds me A LOT of my Harajuku Lovers Wicked Style version of Music perfume. It is very, very similar, and I smelled the two side-by-side to confirm that! Very pretty scent, and probably my top favorite out the the 5 roll-ons that I purchased from this new line at Target. I highly recommend trying them out, they had sample bottles for each scent available at my store.

First impression; smells like bougie floral hair products, like yummy peony violet magnolia hair care. Prose prelude actually. Smells clean and moisturizing lol. Dewy. Purple. If I look for it, I get concord grape and green apple. A little like an iris flower but amber. I see there are very few notes, and I guessed each, so it smells like what it says it does!! If I was a floral enthusiast, who's also into amber, I'd be OBSESSED with this. I have a strong association between florals and hair care, and am very picky about them. I will enjoy using my travel size blind buy as a hair scent, and i have no doubt it will bring me a lot of joy doing so.

I was so excited to find the Good Chemistry line at Target. I tried my best to sample as many as possible. Magnolia Violet is a very pretty crowd pleasing floral. It's very light, something of a milky violet scent. It reminds me of various Ellen Tracy perfumes I've had over the years. I only sampled it on paper but next time I'm at Target I'm definitely going to give it a skin test. It makes me think of a luxurious skin cream.

Love this perfume! I bought the body spray because the weather is starting to warm up and I like to put body sprays in the fridge for a cool spray. This perfume reminds me of Bath and Body works sheer freesia. If you went to high school in the 90s you know what I'm talking about! It definitely has a sweet but strong magnolia scent. The body spray has essential oils in it as well with a notes of peony and amber.

I was really sad to learn about all the damage phthalates can cause to our endocrine system and that most fragrances have them so after some research I found this brand. This is one of my favorites from Good Chemistry, next to Tiger Lilly, they don't last extremely long but for their price I think it's worth it. On me it's almost a bit more musky than powdery, which I absolutely LOVE.

I originally thought this was identical to Marc jacobs daisy but after wearing it again after a while they really aren’t that alike to me. This is a green soapy floral and definitely isn’t as sweet and light as daisy is. I almost regret decluttering daisy now :/

I was kind of really disappointed in this one. This smells like a huge blast alcohol for a few minutes. Then it settles down into a heavily green/grassy scent with a hint of florals. This would function better as a room spray rather than a body fragrance.

A 50/50 mix of Daisy and Lancome Miracle.
