Not That Vanilla

Not That Vanilla— The name makes me smile. It’s so appropriate, because it really is “not that vanilla”. In fact, it’s not any generic vanilla you’re probably imagining. NTV contains elements of both Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille and MM’s By The Fireplace, but is removed enough from the two to hold its own unique identity. If Tobacco Vanille’s sister and By The Fireplace’s brother had a kid, the resulting scent would be this, which surprisingly results in a more widely wearable (and SFW!) version of these 2 fragrances. It’s longer lasting than BTF, but less of an olfactory bomb than TV. And while this fragrance profile doesn’t show it, there IS vanilla in this fragrance, you can smell it! The sweetness from that and the cacao is subtle, but yummy. This is a wonderfully woodsy, smoky juice underscored by a subtle sweetness, and I find it can easily be worn anytime, anywhere... even in high summer heat. All for less than $30. What’s not to adore? And why the heck are you still here? Go and getcha some!🥰

i got the body spray of this from a target gift set of vanilla scented products for xmas and didn’t try it until now (july). i really regret not using this sooner because i really love it. i’ve been looking for a fragrance that smells like the candles my parents burn at home and could never find one that smelled the same. amazingly, this smells exactly like that. i think the smokiness of this especially helps with it smelling like a candle. as for the other notes, i pick up on a lot more amber, which is nice. i’m not sure how much of the bergamot i can smell, but im sure it’s in there somewhere. it this stuff is really great. im looking forward to wearing it in the colder months, especially around halloween. there’s a sense of mystery to this fragrance that i really love. 10/10

I saw Brigette’s comment and literally made an account just to comment the same. I had to look this stuff up because I thought it was just me. I bought the body mist just to test (& honestly first to use as a room spray lol) but I sprayed it on me and got 2 compliments in the first day of wearing! And I was so shocked ... because it’s a body mist. It is a super bold scent, and lasts longer than some $300+ dollar fragrances I have. Very edgy, I do think best for night, but if you’re a naturally bold person I think it can be definitely used during the day balanced with a sweet scent (I’m going to be layering Burberry Elixir with it today)

This is definitely something unexpected I picked it up because it was purple I didn’t look at the name if I had I probably wouldn’t even have smelled it lol. I am not a fan of vanilla, like at all, vanilla smells nice on other but on me turns plastic and super annoyingly sweet and to me smells like a fake smile. Regardless I love this it smells sort of like Copal, it is strongly just smoke with a bit of citrus but if you are looking for witchy scents. Also I would say it is not a vanilla at all, I would say a vanilla lover would be confused with this.

I returned By the Fireplace and found this one a few months later where I work. BTF is very strong and imo can be cloying. They have a lot of similarities but NTV is so much softer.

It's a nice not too gourmand vanilla. I love when the smoky, woody, even powdery aspects of vanilla are prominent in a scent, like this one.

It’s not bad and I can understand why people like it. There is something about this fragrance on its own that scratches at my brain in the most annoying way. In my opinion this wears very flat. I ended up using it as a layering piece, mostly with Solinotes Vanille to tone down the sweet or PHLUR Vanilla Skin to add more woodiness . I did finish the whole bottle but about half way through I had to make myself use it. If you like this DNA but also felt it was missing something try Eilish 2. I find it’s blended better, the cost is higher but still a good price depending on personal budget.

The opening of this vanilla is a patchouli-forward smokey amber and iso e super-bomb. I'm getting cedar or pine from the iso e super. It's pretty earthy but squarely vanilla... kind of a cardboard-y vanilla, bergamot-y too. I wish I was getting cocoa. It's like a sweeter (and earthier), less yogurt-y Vanilla Woods by 7 V. [I think Vanilla Woods smells like vanilla yogurt. NTV doesn't smell like yogurt at all.] It is a lil oat milky. Very sweet.

This stuff took me by surprise. For the heck of it, I sprayed this on one wrist while I was at the grocery store. Just the body mist, not the perfume. Eight hours laters, I still smell it. Excuse me? I can't smell parfums for that long. They've earned my respect and my curiosity about their scents.

This fragrance would be perfect to wear if you were a witch for Halloween. Smoky, kinda earthy too. Little mysterious. But also kinda synthetic. In my opinion leans almost a bit more masculine.

like many others on here, i was so impressed and surprised by this fragrance. such a good cozy, smokey, sexy scent! i look forward to wearing this in the winter ❄️

This is a good perfume by Good Chemistry. If you like Replica’s By the Fireplace, you’ll like this one.
