Ambre Sauvage

Pretty much agree with Douceamere, - opening just like Ambre Fetiche one, that develops into unexpected too-much of a vanilla thing, I was waiting for something "Sauvage", wild and fierce to appear, nope, house cat it is. Saying that, I still want to buy a bottle or big decant of it, as apart of Annick Goutal's ambers - where else to find beautifully crafted, delicate and rough at the same time, carnal accord like this one?..

Fantastic. Yes, this is very similar to Ambre Fetiche but different in the top. It has a more herbal/medicinal top line. Then the Fetiche vibe comes but a little darker (with almost a drop of oud and smoke to it). In the final base, there is the amber radiating but when you stick your nose in it the whisp of iris is definitely there. It's complex and lovely.

This has lots of vanilla with this slightly medicinal cherry like smell to it, i suppose more spicy than straight up cherry though. This fragrance does remind me of lynx oud wood and dark vanilla, not trying to put it down because believe me it is a very very nice scent(ambre sauvage). it is like the niche, more complex version of the lynx spray. the longevity is very good on this one as well.

I found out that amber based scents definitely aren ́t for me. It was very similar feeling when I tested Serge Lutenś Ambre Sultan. Horrible and really unpleasant. I really can ́t appreciate this smell. In reality I really can ́t understant so many positive reviews here. I don ́t like modern easy-going smells which are difficult to recognize, but this is too much. I really don ́t know why people want to smell this way.

I tested this briefly in Paris when it launched, next to Ambre Fetiche. The bottle is beautiful; heavy and elegant, with a nice, solid cap. The scent, otoh, I wish I liked better than I did. The top notes are quite similar to Ambre Fetiche - you *know* this is an amber perfume. Unfortunately, after the promising beginning, it quietens considerably and becomes softer, airier and more vanillic. Overall I would say that it is softer and less dense than AF, especially in the middle and drydown. While AF remains resinous and powerful throughout, Ambre Sauvage softens to a quiet, slightly powdery vanilla base. Ambre Sauvage is pleasant, but definitely not "sauvage". I thought Ambre Fetiche was the superior amber, and at a lower price too.

If this is really anything like Ambre Fetiche...count me out. Ambre Fetiche is one of the worst, if not THE worst fragrance I’ve ever smelled.

Very animalic and leather. Styrax is missing in the pyramid, by the way.
