Étoile d'Une Nuit

My first Annick Goutal! I was browsing the perfume counter at my local department store and was requesting feedback from the sales associate on another perfume, when she recommended I take a look at Goutal’s line. She highly recommended this one along with Tenue de Soirée, and gave me samples. At first I was really intrigued by Tenue de Soirée after smelling it on the card, but after trying both on my skin, it was clear which one was a winner. While Tenue Soirée is beautiful with its patchouli note, it is also quite sweet for my taste.. and somewhat generic-smelling. Etoile d’une Nuit, on the other hand, blew me away. Initially it has a strong powder note with raspberry at the beginning (not sure what iris smells like but I’m sure it’s there too), quite reminiscent of makeup. But my favourite part of this scent is the vanilla that grounds it all - a clean, not-too-sweet vanilla that is comforting and warm. Overall, Etoile d'une Nuit is comforting, chic and so wearable for everyday, while also being unique. I also find it has excellent longevity - I put two sprays on in the morning (wrists and back of neck) and I can still smell the lingering, powdery vanilla on my skin at the end of the day, 8 hours later. Several people including my boyfriend have commented on how nice it smells too. I purchased the 30 mL bottle and look very forward to wearing this scent this winter, perhaps it’ll replace Narciso Rodriguez’s For Her EDT as my signature. So glad I discovered this one.

Just wanted to update my experience with this— i got this a few months ago. This is my first experience with goutal and i really can tell the fragrances are of high quality. No plasticky cheap chemically accords, this is well done even if not one of my top picks. I do like it, it is feminine and classy, that is for sure. I would consider it a stoic or serious scent. It is not a flirty scent at all. I wouldnt really consider it a fun scent. I cant say i reach for it a lot, despite liking it. Today i wore it to work and i put my aroma therapy locket on with lavender oil in it. The combo was excellent! I loved the iris with a hint of a lavender essential oil. The oil has a green earthy vibe, it smells great with the iris in this scent. Just my 2cents I was thinking about putting lavendsr oil in some unscented lotion and putting that on first then this fragrance. Ill have to try sometime and report back. Update: i wore yesterday in slighter warmer springtime temps, and i have to say, it was a completely different experience and i enjoyed it much more than in cold weather. I think being just a bit warmer made the floral notes come alive? Yesterday (spring day in mid atlantic) i wore this with metal wave by allsaints. I thought one may enhance the other and i think i was right bc i got a compliment:)

I just ordered this blind based on the glowing reviews here and i wanted to try a lipsticky fragrance! I will be back to review later😀 Update: i received this and i really like it. It is a delicate, refined, classy scent. Im not sure that i get lipstick, it isnt waxy to me, it is definitely powdery. I havent worn it enough to really give a fair score on sillage or longevity, but i think this is one you could overspray and not knock people out. It is a nice go to bed scent, it would work well for conservative work environments. I would consider this an understated scent, that is a nuanced powder with little wafts of florals and musk. I am happy to have it in my collection as it fills a gap i dont currently have! I will try it more in different seasons and scenarios to find the best times to wear it and report back my observations. I think it is a safe blind buy, but not sure i would consider it youthful. It is a nice change from vanilla and sweet scents.

Creamy, powdery scent. But sweet and sour scent of raspberries makes it less sticky and old-fashioned. I think the choice of raspberry instead of citrus gives it a deep, juicy and gorgeous. It is a very nice fragrance, calm yet sexy. If I were to compare it to other perfumes, I would say that it is a fresher version of Karl Lagerfeld's Sun Moon Stars, minus the carnations. I think it's also similar to Ombre Rose. I can understand why it is called a mother's dresser scent. Unfortunately, it's such a beautiful scent, but it's a limited edition. When I asked the staff at Goutal, they told me that the other two scents in the Collection Oiseaux de Nuit will continue to be sold, but only Étoile d'Une Nuit will be available in limited quantities. I bought a 50ml bottle and liked it so much that I was afraid I would run out of this scent, so I bought an extra 100ml bottle.

A very soft, powdery and musky fragrance. Very much work place appropriate, even where you really should not normally wear perfume. I think this one would never offend anyone. I notice the peppery note, but it is not too much at all. I have two other fragrances where I think the pepper&rose is a bit much -a bit cold and a little harsh - those are Perles de Lalique and Smyrna by Le Couvent des Minimes. Those two I percieve as more maskuline. But this one is very feminine - a bit cool in some way, yet warm, if that makes any sense! Reminds me a little bit also of Kenzo Flower, but softer - and with less sillage. So, I really love this, and will happily wear it as one of my easy pick fragrances - when I don’t want to overthink my choice of the day! These kinds you can not have too much of, I think - so I am glad I bought a 100 ml bottle!
