Étoile d'Une Nuit

My first Annick Goutal! I was browsing the perfume counter at my local department store and was requesting feedback from the sales associate on another perfume, when she recommended I take a look at Goutal’s line. She highly recommended this one along with Tenue de Soirée, and gave me samples. At first I was really intrigued by Tenue de Soirée after smelling it on the card, but after trying both on my skin, it was clear which one was a winner. While Tenue Soirée is beautiful with its patchouli note, it is also quite sweet for my taste.. and somewhat generic-smelling. Etoile d’une Nuit, on the other hand, blew me away. Initially it has a strong powder note with raspberry at the beginning (not sure what iris smells like but I’m sure it’s there too), quite reminiscent of makeup. But my favourite part of this scent is the vanilla that grounds it all - a clean, not-too-sweet vanilla that is comforting and warm. Overall, Etoile d'une Nuit is comforting, chic and so wearable for everyday, while also being unique. I also find it has excellent longevity - I put two sprays on in the morning (wrists and back of neck) and I can still smell the lingering, powdery vanilla on my skin at the end of the day, 8 hours later. Several people including my boyfriend have commented on how nice it smells too. I purchased the 30 mL bottle and look very forward to wearing this scent this winter, perhaps it’ll replace Narciso Rodriguez’s For Her EDT as my signature. So glad I discovered this one.

Just wanted to update my experience with this— i got this a few months ago. This is my first experience with goutal and i really can tell the fragrances are of high quality. No plasticky cheap chemically accords, this is well done even if not one of my top picks. I do like it, it is feminine and classy, that is for sure. I would consider it a stoic or serious scent. It is not a flirty scent at all. I wouldnt really consider it a fun scent. I cant say i reach for it a lot, despite liking it. Today i wore it to work and i put my aroma therapy locket on with lavender oil in it. The combo was excellent! I loved the iris with a hint of a lavender essential oil. The oil has a green earthy vibe, it smells great with the iris in this scent. Just my 2cents I was thinking about putting lavendsr oil in some unscented lotion and putting that on first then this fragrance. Ill have to try sometime and report back. Update: i wore yesterday in slighter warmer springtime temps, and i have to say, it was a completely different experience and i enjoyed it much more than in cold weather. I think being just a bit warmer made the floral notes come alive? Yesterday (spring day in mid atlantic) i wore this with metal wave by allsaints. I thought one may enhance the other and i think i was right bc i got a compliment:)

I just ordered this blind based on the glowing reviews here and i wanted to try a lipsticky fragrance! I will be back to review later😀 Update: i received this and i really like it. It is a delicate, refined, classy scent. Im not sure that i get lipstick, it isnt waxy to me, it is definitely powdery. I havent worn it enough to really give a fair score on sillage or longevity, but i think this is one you could overspray and not knock people out. It is a nice go to bed scent, it would work well for conservative work environments. I would consider this an understated scent, that is a nuanced powder with little wafts of florals and musk. I am happy to have it in my collection as it fills a gap i dont currently have! I will try it more in different seasons and scenarios to find the best times to wear it and report back my observations. I think it is a safe blind buy, but not sure i would consider it youthful. It is a nice change from vanilla and sweet scents.

Creamy, powdery scent. But sweet and sour scent of raspberries makes it less sticky and old-fashioned. I think the choice of raspberry instead of citrus gives it a deep, juicy and gorgeous. It is a very nice fragrance, calm yet sexy. If I were to compare it to other perfumes, I would say that it is a fresher version of Karl Lagerfeld's Sun Moon Stars, minus the carnations. I think it's also similar to Ombre Rose. I can understand why it is called a mother's dresser scent. Unfortunately, it's such a beautiful scent, but it's a limited edition. When I asked the staff at Goutal, they told me that the other two scents in the Collection Oiseaux de Nuit will continue to be sold, but only Étoile d'Une Nuit will be available in limited quantities. I bought a 50ml bottle and liked it so much that I was afraid I would run out of this scent, so I bought an extra 100ml bottle.

A very soft, powdery and musky fragrance. Very much work place appropriate, even where you really should not normally wear perfume. I think this one would never offend anyone. I notice the peppery note, but it is not too much at all. I have two other fragrances where I think the pepper&rose is a bit much -a bit cold and a little harsh - those are Perles de Lalique and Smyrna by Le Couvent des Minimes. Those two I percieve as more maskuline. But this one is very feminine - a bit cool in some way, yet warm, if that makes any sense! Reminds me a little bit also of Kenzo Flower, but softer - and with less sillage. So, I really love this, and will happily wear it as one of my easy pick fragrances - when I don’t want to overthink my choice of the day! These kinds you can not have too much of, I think - so I am glad I bought a 100 ml bottle!

I own all three of the fragrances belonging to the Oiseaux de L’Nuit collection. All three are beautiful in their own right and all are different from one another, but Étoile D’Une Nuit is my personal favorite. I am a huge fan of iris and this is an absolutely gorgeous iris scent. It is powdery and utterly feminine and elegant. It is that delectable perfect “lipstick” scent and although I own and adore Lipstick Rose and know it is a phenomenal creation, this one ties for first place with it although I will admit LR has much better longevity. Years ago, I wore Flower by Kenzo and EDUN reminds me of Flower in a way (the powder, iris etc.), but Goutal has taken this to a much higher level of sophistication. If you love powder and iris, you must have this in your collection. It is simply fantastic.

Etoile d'une Nuit is a beautiful feminine powdery iris fragrance. Soft and enveloping, the Iris is prominent in all stages of this fragrance. Iris and citrus at the opening, Iris and the other florals (rose and jasmine) in the mid and finally, Iris, soft musk and vanilla in the base. I am not sure that I can identify the cashmere wood, but everything is really well blended and that cashmere is probably adding to the smooth powdery feel. This is a lipstick Iris, a makeup iris. This is my most iris dominant fragrance and I don't feel like I need another in this scent profile. Etoile d'une Nuit has filled that spot. As a bonus - the bottle is really nice too! If you like a soft powdery Iris, you should sample this.

There is a beautiful quality to this perfume, the iris has a mature velvety quality, like almost a soft leather, feminine, elegant...the notes really blend in so well so I can’t detect where they start, or end..it is overall an iris scent to my nose, I detect little raspberry, but there is a soft distant vanilla in the mix..this scent reminds me an elegant classy woman leather gloves, of the smoothest highest grain...it isnt too much of anything..it is a Goutal, she created a subtle yet long lasting perfume...like a shooting star crossing the sky..you can’t quite forget that perfume once you smelled it...it is like a lingering pretty scent..it isn’t like vintage but it has a timeless quality...

Am I in love, or what?! I am in love with this from the very first breath. First impressions: This is a very refined, upscale, lipsticky fragrance. I am not one to like lipstick fragrances much, but this one is so well blended that the lipstick facet (initial blast) does not make me frown. After a few minutes, like 15 to 20 minutes, the lipstick calms down and the violet comes out to play. Oh such delight! I'm looking for the "piney" facet. I can't find it. All I smell is a mixture of violets and irises, very well balanced. This is a sweet, sophisticated, expensive, very feminine fragrance. The cost says it all and it is well worth having it. This was a blind buy for me and I scored an A+.

I am back again after a year to once again say i love this fragrance! Still remains a fave for me and i think it is fine for summer as well. I think i want to try more goutal based on the quality of this scent. The blending is soooo smooth. This smells classy, elegant and refined. It is dry and heavy iris but i dont get lipstick as much as i get general cosmetics. It is powdery but not in a juvenile way. Definitely a serious scent, but not in a bad way! I wouldnt wear this for a night of clubbing lets put it that way. This is more of a...flying first class type of scent, or maybe driving your new benz off the lot type of scent. It tells people you appreciate the nuances. A big love for me.

This is a wow! This is what I call a perfect scent. I sprayed it on a paper towel just two sprays and I always do to prime the pump. And everytime I walked past the table the scent wafted to my nose. It’s still sitting there and I came down this morning and it’s just in the air. It’s so beautiful. So Feminine. Musky texture, soft, lightly sweet just to ground it some. The Iris adds to the musk in such a present and stately way. What I love most. Everyone is t smelling like this. This isn’t that basic sweet, fruity, vanilla, blah blah. You will be where you are and no one will smell like you. But you will be smelling beautiful.

I adore this. It has interesting depths beyond its immediate sweet, soft, powdery, comforting scent. I have tried so many Irises and I enjoy many - the woodiness of VCA’s Bois d’Iris, the opening of Armani’s Iris bleue and the contemplative softness of l’Iris from Santa Maria Novella. The OG Infusion d’iris is lovely but too faint imo. But this blend of Iris, Rose, Vanilla and wood somehow takes Iris to another realm - one of gentle, intelligent, calm mature femininity. I think this will be my third Goutal. Goutal could well be the house for me - quietly confident interesting moreish sophistication. Yes please.

I was surprised to like this so much. I haven't been much taken with recent Goutals, especially this range. But it really is lovely. I don't get make-up so much as a spicy, peppery rose with vanilla and iris. It coursens slightly as it dries, but is still attractive. It reminds me of Jovoy's Sans un Mot at the start, although EdN becomes sweeter in the drydown, where SuM becomes less sweet. It also has a surprising resemblance to Guerlain's Atrappe Coeur/ Royal Extract / Guet Apens, although sweeter and less complex.

this is the first newer Goutal I really like. It has a very comfy, blanky, silky feel to it with this almost eerie sweetness in the background. Interestingly, I do not only smell the three given notes Iris, raspberry, rose, but certainly a strong powdery violet and even some almost minty conifers, pine maybe? My first association was iris, violet, cold, fresh snow. It also has a lipstick note is it from the iris, but this nice cold sweetness dominates over the other notes for me.

Trying out my sample again during this dreadf heat in FL. Back when I first tried it I think it was winter (if you can call it that here in FL) and it was a lot more dry and waxier with something coming off peppery but I still loved it. Now I can definitely get some soft florals and just a bit of citrus. The iris is very prominent, powdery , still dry and a bit sweet . Ugh it’s so lovely , definitely one of the best lipsticky scents

I really love this - it is a fragrance I can wear even when I want to be quite discreet, yet smell good! I understood from some youtube reviewers, that I would like it - but it has actually become one of my favourites, as an everyday go-to, a choice that can never go wrong! I would gladly repurchase, if (or when) I finish my big bottle.

Lipstick powder iris with a good dose of vanilla, a little rose that just lifts the floral but doesn't read as rose for rose haters, though I am a rose lover, and some cashmir wood to round it out. This goes on a little peppery even though that note is not listed. Probably the iris. Love it.

I am in love with this scent. It's velvety, not too sweet, very well blended, you smell the violets, raspberry and roses very well. it's young, fresh and comforting. It lasts ages and is very potent, I tried with many different perfumes the day I got it and all I could smell was this scent.

This is the most exquisitely elegant, feminine, refined, well-blended softly musky/powdery iris-with a tinge of sweetness-fragrance in my wardrobe. Just bought a back-up bottle (a rare occurrence for me). Changing my signature all the time, but I have a feeling this is my Holy Grail ✨🏆✨

If you miss Lipstick On, get this! This is the perfect lipstick perfume that does it while also smelling elegant and expensive. The woody base makes it much more wearable and grown up. Will definitely get a full bottle

Sweet creamy iris -rose combination. velvety soft and skin-warm. just like powdered clean skin after warm shower. Fresh and sensual at the same time.

Lovely. Nearly identical to VCA Bois D'Iris but it has something more - something a touch creamy that softens it. Elegant, inoffensive, clean, regal.

I frequently wore this throughout the late summer and warm autumn of last year - bees could not get enough of this perfume. Neither can I =)

Wow! I can understand why this yummy perfumey vanilla/iris/fruit scent is popular. Boy its attractive. A fella would want to nuzzle you. Fellas love vanilla fragrance and this would attract attention. So feminine and delicious. Soft yet not weak. The cool iris prevents it from being too girly and main stream. It smells very natural. Yes, there is this old fashioned lipstick smell aspect to it but it's not as strong as the FM fragrance. This is softer with lots more fluffy vanilla and berries. A teeny bit of the Parma Violets. A classy, gourmand fragrance that your lady might enjoy as well as you. Nog bad longevity and sillage for an AG.

This is a beautiful, well-blended yet iris-forward fragrance. It's sweet, but not overly so. It's soft and warm, like an embrace. I wanted to sample it because it's supposed to be a lipstick scent, and while I would describe it as one, it's also more than that. There's not too much powder, or too much of anything else. It's very feminine, delicate, and soft - but not too soft. The sillage is definitely more than a skin scent. I'm also happy to say that the vanilla doesn't take over (which I've found can be a problem for my migraines). This fragrance is comforting, yet enlivening.

Such a dainty lipstick scent. It's reminding me of like a slightly sweeter, slightly playdoh-y version Molecule 01+Iris // less effervescent and earthy version of Centauri Antheia. Very soft skin scent, even could smell like someone is just wearing a nicely scented body lotion. It's not sheer per se, but rather feels like a gentle skin cloak. I will say though, for everything I love about this chalky iris opening, the dry down is a little too lotiony for me and leaves something to be desired. It's not bad, but totally loses that special appeal in the opening.

This is a very nice, buttery, ALMOST nutty and gourmand powder. Definitely one of the nicest powdery scents I've tried. Also reminds me of Kenzo's Flower (EDP only) in that nice, lightly sweet powdery way. (In terms of sweet powder, in case Narciso Rodriguez's "Poudree" comes to mind - this is nothing like that) Very pretty and classy. Could be work appropriate. Very feminine. Very very soft projection, though. I did get whiffs now and then. Scent: 8/10 Projection: 3/10 Longevity: about 5-6 hours on my skin.

i get an extremely ricy opening, powdery, a bit sweet but natural, but this thing is not linear at all; a new facet turns up at every stage of the wear. The drydown has a tanginess, fruity, kind of sour but also sweet with a makeupy iris undertones but the rice note disappears in the dry down. There's something extremely addictive about this scent, it's very much signature-worthy. It doesn't have the most complex note breakdown, but it doesn't smell similar to other stuff i have tried recently.

A very nice, pleasant "comfy scent", I get a lot of vanilla, a very nice, beautiful vanilla, not the nasty stuff you sometimes smell in drugstore cheapies. Nevertheless, it is not a new invention nor a scent I would buy (159 Euros). If you happen to remember Casmir by Chopard (before it was reformulated)...- it comes quite close, but is much stronger, more opulent. Etoile d'une Nuit is well-behaved. The star is not shining as brightly as one would hope.

This is beautiful. On my skin, this smells like an orange creamsicle scent. If you've smelled Lolitaland by Lolita lempicka, this smells like her smoother, better quality, more elegant counterpart. It opens up with a burst of something quite musky and peppery, even though there is no pepper in the makeup of this (probably the Iris). I don't pick up much of the rose. The florals here are glorious and sweet. Heady jasmine and an iris that isn't clinical.

To my surprise this one opens with a bang of greeness, like fresh grass and almost a mossy strongness. I am initially disappointed as this was not what was described but slowly it fades into a very soft and fragile fragrance on me that has a light touch of fruityness and gentle flowers. The rose note doesn't appear on my skin before quite a long time. It's a lovely fragrance, not strong on me, innocent and very wearable.

Waxy, slightly sweet. Cozy. this perfume reminds of crayons -BUT, fancy crayons.creamy crayons. Once it settles, it’s powdery and soft with that lipstick vibe still. This is a delicate and comforting scent. However, you might really want to test this one first if you’re considering blind buying it. It gets even better and cozier as the juice mancerates.

begins rice powder. I love the beginning, love rice-y accords. sweet rice-y powder with iris, violet and a touch of berry. after 10 minutes this loses the rice powder and becomes straight baby powder. if only it remained exactly as first sprayed, then I’d love it. but once dried down it’s essentially an amped up (better) Kenzo Flower.

It’s a nice fragrance and lipsticky, which I like. But it’s gone within minutes on my skin and the lipstick isn’t very noticeable. I have to really sniff my wrist. I almost bought it, but I unexpectedly had a sample and the fact that it’s not long-lasting at all made me remove it from my basket.

For Iris and powdery lovers for sure. I cannot detect vanilla. An elegant perfume, a little vintage (maybe for mature woman?), lipstick! Compatible with open space, perfect for work. Original? Not so sure. Good quality? Yes for me.

It smells a little like crayons today. A lot dustier than I was expecting.

its very girly. better than tenue de soire - not as sweet. you get the rice lipsticky powder. i don't pick up the raspberry or rose. not for me but its likeable.

its slightly lipstick smelling, but after 10 sprays, it still sits close to the skin. It's nice for bedtime, but too soft for an all day perfume.

A true beauty. More refined, less nuanced than Kenzo Flower but in the same family. I can't wear Flower edp but I love this. I get spicy, velvety Bulgarian Rose, powdery orris and a slight tartness of raspberry that's really well done. I'd swear there's violets, though violet is not listed. It has a little vanilla in the base and a distant haze of incense. It has a soft presence but it's delicacy doesn't undermine potency or longevity. It's surprisingly persistent and projecting, giving a beautiful noticeable cloud for many hours. In my experience true lipstick scents are not easy to come by and this one doesn't quite hit the mark either. It's rosey, powdery purple flowers and vanilla. It's beautiful, yes. At moments even slightly waxy. I can force the image of lipstick if I try, but what it's really giving me is cosmetics cream and face powder. It may smell lipsticky to some, but either way it's a beautiful, soft, feminine powdery floral that's easy to wear anytime, anywhere. It projects on the stronger side of moderate for several hours. Eventually it becomes a powdery cloud in my personal space and remains that way until I can't smell it anymore. It wears softly yet noticeably so I can always smell it on myself when I move around or press my nose to my skin. Normally these kinds of scents are on the fleeting side, but this lasts all day into the night without any reapplication. The lovely soft-persistent presence of it I think correlates with quality.

This fragrance is the epitome of class and sophistication, for me. Yes, Chanel's are notorious for having this quality, but I really think that this is the most balanced, sophisticated, feminine iris fragrance I've come across. At first, it's a lovely, fresh, Earthy iris and then the rose (which this rose also has a powdery facet) comes through and they coexist seperately with both their lovely facets shining through independently, not creating that weird combo I normally get when violets and rose are combined ie Lipstick Rose. There is a slight peppery facet also coming through that is nice, never jarring or obtuse. The powdery quality isn't stifling, and remains restrained, delicate. This fragrance in general is restrained, delicate, thoughtful, interesting, feminine, and just very lovely. I love the journey this one takes me on while I wear it. Definitely my favorite from Goutal.

😯..... 🤔....... 😑 i winded up giving this to my sister [the travel size] because i already have van cleef & arpels bois d'iris. only difference is this is a bit sweeter with some lipstick nuances but not enough for me to consider it a lipstick fragrance which is the main reason why i wanted to try it. she finds it elegant and very appealing while my nose remains anosmic. by the way, i don't know what people consider a lipsticky fragrance because i get woody notes and beach vibes from this perfume. lipstick fragrances to me would be cloud pink, sweet vanilla, or pink exstasy. maybe i don't categorize perfumes properly or they just don't develop to their base notes on my skin, but if you're looking for a lipstick perfume that smells very almost waxy, powdery, sweet and girly, try those perfumes.

In my sampling of Etoile d'Une Nuit, iris and powder dominate in a way that doesn't grab me or feel like it has anything distinctive or unique to say. Normally, I find Annick Goutal perfumes to have a definite vision--it may not be one you necessarily like, but there's a crisp striving towards a moment of fragrant transcendence that can make up for the fact that it's not your cup of tea. Etoile d'Une Nuit feels muddy and bland in comparison, and I've decided to see if I can gift the remainder of the sample to a friend or family member who it resonates with. It's not that I can't imagine some women loving this, but it's not for me, and not what I expect from Goutal.

The best combination of sexy and classy. What I want in a perfume is to have the character of sexy, as it is the basic element of life existence. However, I don’t want my perfume to declare “available” or “easy”. With this perfume i find I can smell intoxicating and have the “sexy but only for the selected” message sent. Additionally, I find it calming and relaxing. For all the above reasons it has been one of my favourite powders in the last years. Only drawback is the sillage: I wish it were more noticeable for the fact that its niche.

This fragrance is a cozy, cuddly kiss from your Mom. She’s warm, soft, powdery, elegant. You can smell her powder and lipstick. This resembles Lipstick On by MM quite a bit and actually more than Bellissima Intense. They are both waxy thick iris scents with lots of warmth and a hint of sweetness. I’d say LO is more waxy and this one is more powdery. I get some sharpness from the Rose and not much raspberry but I don’t care. It’s a heavy creamy lipstick iris which is a bit irresistible to me.

Was expecting more. Smells like Dioramour from diors private collection. Lots of Iris and powder, slightly green undertones with hint of vanilla. It gets a little creamier in the dry down It isn’t a very exciting fragrance for me. I thought it would be more unique but other than diors amour I know 2 other perfumes that smell like this.

I was so excited to try this, and it is lovely. The only issue for me is the sweetness, its by no means sweet but I am assuming the raspberry makes it just put a toe into that syrupy scent that I just cannot do. If you are the same just know it does stop at the powdery aspect, but enters the sweet zone. So close to perfect tho.

I wish I could pick up the lipstick people are talking about. To my nose this is straight powder! A delicate, sweet, slightly fruity, makeup powder scent. It’s elegant but not quite my cup of tea, unfortunately. I totally get the “cozy mom/favorite elementary school teacher” vibe here.
