Not sure what issue people have with this perfume. Yes it’s rose and leather and it’s been done a million times but the intention of this fragrance I doubt was to be groundbreaking. Its intention was likely to smell expensive and sophisticated and that’s exactly what it does. It’s strong and bold without being overly aggressive. Cacao is there just softening the leather to make it come off slightly suede like. I think it’s lovely choice for someone like me who loves a bold and in your face scent when I’m wanting to smell exactly like that but also luxurious. I do get that oud vibe which personally I like so it doesn’t bother me so maybe not a blind buy if you are particularly opposed to oud? All in all it’s lovely imo. Perfect for a date nights etc. Adorable bottle. Still lingering the next morning. It does exactly what it is meant to do!

Folie d'un Soir Goutal A very addictive and nice Ambery rose scent in general. It opens warm spicy ambery with the distinctive rose which seems to have 2 rosy stage in the opening to the drydown. The balsamic and incensiness adds to the depth of the amber. The scent and it's development It's simple and gentle enough but yet for a Goutal I feel Folie d'un Soir is still classy and rich. Does reminds me of certain rose scents but nothing really close. Presentation is simple and beautiful with the furball. Performance on me about 6-8 hours, still strong in skin at 5th hour. Projection ok for an hour or so. Marketed as a female scent, how many guys actually love this? I really liked this and feel any guy can pull this off anytime anyday, the dna isn't really that feminine. What's your take on this ladies and gentleman?

A cold winter’s night, wearing a rose-and-amber perfume, while smoke rises from the neighbour’s chimney. And we decide to eat some chocolate pralines in front of a feelgood movie, with a blanket around us. First impression: sweet and soft, nice but not all that original. Gets more woody and smoky after maybe an hour or so. Cozy, likeable. I bought a 30 ml small bottle, and that is enough for me, since I have other fragrances reminding me of this. Update, a few days later: I feel that, due to it’s softness, this is a perfect every-day fragrance, in winter. It is even work appropriate, if you don’t spray like crazy. I will upgrade it to a love, since it makes me feel so relaxed and comfortable. Maybe it is even rebuy material. Update, again: I have now put it among my favourites! 😊

A burlesque dancer on the run, silent film star turned spy, Folie d'un Soir exudes a deep, dark glamour with an olfactory narrative that saunters off the skin. The opening is aromatic, spicy, and resinous, beautiful in its own right, but the drydown, THE DRYDOWN is what makes this fragrance a top-five of all time for me. The soft, dusty cacao note sweetens the leather beautifully while the resins maintain a complexity that grants this scent so much intrigue. Reminds me quite a lot of Ambre Nuit though the rose is less prominent here, and in some ways, reminds me of Delina Exclusif (both mutually resinous and sweet, but Folie is much less powder-like). Also, a less harsh and better blended Valentina Myrrh Assoluto (there is no diesel note here, thankfully).

I absolutely love this scent! While the official notes list leather and cocoa, I get major tobacco vibes from this. It feels like a vintage leather travel bag that’s been in a room filled with sweet pipe smoke. The myrrh and incense give it a beautiful, smoky depth that makes it feel very 'night out' and mysterious. It's warm, sophisticated, and has a bit of an edge, easily one of my new favourites from Goutal

This is beautiful. Very resinous , ambery on the opening with a bit of a mature rose . Within a few minutes , i still get that frankincense that turns a bit Smokey and the leather starts to come in. It’s very pretty and to me it’s reminiscent of Epic by amouage without that oud. It’s a unisex fragrance

This is stunning! I mostly get rose and pink pepper (which are a great combo), along with a hefty amount of myrrh and a sweet amber. The leather comes across more like suede to me, with a soft purple flower (iris or violet) effect early on. It smells expensive and sophisticated. Is feminine IMO.

Amazing fragrance with lots of smokey and balsamic notes balanced with juicy candied rose petals with a tender raspberry jam undertones. It also has a lovely peppery freshness but it is mixed really well with smoky notes so it’s not too spicy. Follow me on IG: scent.guide

This is the most delicate veil of rose/myrrh/leather I think I've ever smelled. The cacao in the base makes it dusty and plush, but in the most soft, shimmering way. Extremely elegant, unisex and sophisticated.

This is an exquisite fragrance! Perfectly balanced, leather feminine leaning Perfume. Not overly sweet or floral, just rich and classy. If you like rich leather fragrances, this is a must try.

This is a delectable spicy and warm bottle of deliciousness. It lasts, it’s bold, it’s perfect for depths of winter. Lovely stuff.

this has an amber rose oud vibe to it, not much leather until the drydown, not spicy as far as pepper; and a bit sweet

Peppery, smoky, soft incense and a touch of rose, leather as animalic, a whisper of cacoa, spicy amber. I own the other two flankers in the Les Parfums de Géraldine series, (aka Nocturnal Birds). I was perfectly enchanted by Tenue de Soiree - everything about it checked my fragrance boxes. Nuit et Confidences was another hit with its boozy yet smoky vanilla composition. However, this one I did not expect. The notes were not ones I usually chase after but I wanted to own the whole story, if you will. It is a challenging fragrance for me but that is why I'm here - to try scents I wouldn't otherwise, to explore notes I am not familiar with, to see if I can grow an appreciation over time. Indeed this scent is now a rich addition to my rotation. This whole series are unique, unexpected, bold and truly beautiful.

This feels fairly unisex. Amber, rose and leather are the prominent scents. It has more of what I call a “serious” vibe. Bossy, strong willed, no one is getting away with anything. Great for a formal occasion. In the same vein as Memo French Leather but ambered up. Was a blind buy, over all I like it but probably won’t wear often. It lasts and projects well. The cacao sets softly on the skin.

A rose set against the backdrop of pronounced yet refined leather. The composition is sensual, touched with dry animalic accents—feminine and well-balanced. Though heavier than a typical floral rose, it leans more toward the softness of fine suede leather in elegant leather goods for a lady. Within it lies an intimate, close-to-the-skin sensuality and a sense of corporeal allure.

This is lovely, if not oversprayed. It’s creamy, sweet and slightly smokey. It also smells woody, almost like oud. It’s a good choice for elegant winter nights. It smells expensive and almost unisex, but it can be too much for some. Imagine a stronger Good Girl. I like it and think it’s worth testing.

Given these notes, the scent is actually softer and prettier than I would expect, but it is Goutal so of course. This fragrance projects power and status, she's wearing a mink and is polite, but don't underestimate her.

An amber/ leather perfume with a small touch of rose. Bold, warm and sexy; it is a woody spicy leather fragrance perfect for winter and night. Perfectly unisex to my opinion. Not compatible with offices.

Very nice a leather gourmand 🍯 for autumn, winter and cold spring days. I'll revisit it again in those seasons.

I love this bottle with the cute puff but I am not a fan of the fragrance. Very soft, light and mediocre. There are many other rose/leather fragrances that pack more punch. Sadly a pass.

Very strong leather and rose. Mature. Only suitable for evening in the winter or fall in my opinion. Not for me though so who knows.

The opening of this fragrance is lovely - sweet chocolate and a little spice. As it dries it violently changes - decades old leather, heavy tobacco and overbearing incense. It almost smells a little dusty after some wear. This isn’t for me.

When I first discovered this perfume I was living very unhappily at the time in Paris. I was thousands of miles from my home in California, and incredibly homesick, but trying to tough it out at university because I was desperate to prove to myself that I could, for once, be "normal". By "normal" I mean, not quit another job or run away from another college class I hated. I was painfully bored though from the monotony of the city, which in comparison to LA, had begun to feel suffocating, so spent way too much time and money shopping to try to make up for my frustrations and get out of my overpriced shoebox apartment in the 7th. This perfume, interestingly enough, popped up in my life around the time I began to have this quiet, inner desire to just simply run away from it all. Like literally buy a one-way ticket on the Eurostar, say nothing, and just never go back. Something about the blurb, the colors, the slightly wanton smell of leather and roses and bittersweet cacao spoke to me deeply and set in motion this intense need for freedom. The idea of dropping out of university, particularly during a really awful journalism course where I was forced to spend 4+ hours of my life every week dealing with a particularly nasty group of people, was so incredibly tempting that it almost became pathological. Yet I was so held back by "what other people might think!" and not supposedly giving up easily in negative situations because that was, unfortunately, how I was raised. I was raised to equate suffering with success and place undue importance on the world's opinions and perceptions of my choices because otherwise I was letting the world win if I walked away. Unfortunately, I stayed a few months too long before my mother died unexpectedly of a rare cancer that spring, and my life fell apart pretty much overnight. I did eventually drop out of that university, and run away for a bit to London before returning home to try to rebuild my life. I was finally savoring that freedom I had initially denied myself, only now with the bittersweetness of unexpected loss and regret. So I finally decided to purchase a small bottle of this scent this month as a kind of trophy for following my heart and choosing personal freedom over stagnation and external validation. It's a beautiful, soft, feminine, and sophisticated scent with just enough edge to make it interesting, and I'm sure if my mom was still around she'd like it just as much as I do. I'm not a big oud person, but this has just enough of it (I guess?) to make it pleasantly spicy and rich without being oppressive or too dry or obnoxious. It's not a "BEAST MODE" perfume but, not everything needs to be and I don't like loud scents much anyway so, that doesn't bother me at all. And it also has a lovely vintage quality to it without smelling dated or sour. Oddly enough it's also slightly comforting, like looking through a scrapbook of your grandma's photos, or painting your nails a nice warm red color. But I think what I like most of all about this scent is that it's kind of a weird representation of how the universe, or God if you will, often speaks to us in our own individual ways. Probably to most people, it's just a simple marketing blurb and nothing else but for me personally, this perfume was and still is the representation of my true rebellious nature which I had tried to stifle in an attempt to "fit in" with other people. I have no idea what would have happened if I had just followed my heart and dropped out sooner. I doubt it would have made my mom's sudden death any easier since her diagnosis literally came out of nowhere and it wouldn't have made the subsequent fallout of betrayals and family drama and intense grief any less traumatic for me. However, I am glad I can finally close that chapter of my life and move on towards the future with this scent by my side.

Since we've lost Niki de Saint Phalle, nothing has stirred me in the same way. Elusive, irritating, yet alluring, I loved the inexplicably woven multiplicity of ingredients that somehow worked! I couldn't wear it often, but when I felt silly, happy, painting, or going on an adventure, I could reach for it & know that no one smelled like this. The mint assaulted at first sniff, and the greenness of Niki is absent in Folie, (for which I'm grateful), but the quirky combining the soft Turkish rose with the sharp pink pepper & aromatic cocoa was irresistible. Myrrh is a base note I adore, & leather sends a fiery rush from my sacral chakra, reminding me that I'm a human animal, not to be messed with, but to be treasured. It's old-fashioned in the sense that I've smelled some of this before, from a great aunt who was a Janet Gaynor look-alike, someone who was flirtatious, unpredictable, charming & rich. She only wore the most costly fragrances like Joy, had a perfume collection of gorgeous spray atomizers atop an Art Deco vanity, & all her clothes were made by a dressmaker. Folie is new to me, yet familiar. Luxury in a bottle.

This is a perfect autumn/winter cold night scent. Pairs perfectly with an all brown outfit. The leather is the note that really stands out to my nose. It’s smooth and the sweetness of the leather is prominent. I also smell the cacao which fully supports the leather note. Surprisingly O don’t really smell the rose. If you enjoy La La Land by Perfumehead, you’ll love this!

I smell rose and LOTSSS of leather, a incensey leather with a burnt sweetness but not in a candy type way. I’m not sure how to feel about this yet . I feel as it’s drying down it’s getting more Ambery. This isn’t a typical gourmand

Autumn-Winter Night scent. Unisex. Longevity was 6 hours, sillage was moderate. If you are good at leather/cacao/amber this will be very sexy scent. Just unfortunately it didn’t mix well with my body chemistry.

Here to say what Carpe Noctem below said it: the hidden oud ruins for me. I hate oud and it is incredibly apparent in this - the leather turns to oud really fast. A dislike for me.

Loove this!! A shame that my skin chemistry cannot handle gourmands. The dry down became toooo sweet and cloying on me

The initial spray is gorgeous but that dry down is something else boy. Smells like an old attic on my skin, EW.

I would love this but the hidden oud ruins it for me. I'd never have gotten the sample if I'd known it had oud.
