Grand Amour

I had a hard time tracking down a bottle of this in the U.S. I'm reviewing this even though I've only worn it for 5 minutes, bear in mind. First spray is a little strange for about 10 seconds, then it settles into the prominent hyacinth and lily. It smells really musty at first but it's already smelling more floral, more like what I was expecting based on the reviews. It doesn't project much on my skin. I like it, but it isn't as earthy as I thought it would be - it's rather floral, and slightly powdery. It is nice and I feel like I'll probably grow to like it more as I wear it, but not an instant love. It has the Annick Goutal signature je sais quoi, but it's not that extraordinary. But, I agree with another reviewer that this is the scent of Wuthering Heights. It's romantic, sort of melancholic, and honestly I can't stop sniffing my wrist so that can't be a bad thing. I think it's a safe blind buy if it sounds interesting to you. I do like it. I feel like I'm smelling a lot of rose, even though that's not supposedly one of the prominent notes? I've got nothing bad to say about this. It's another very nice and feminine Annick Goutal, and like Eau de Charlotte, I bet this will grow on me the more I wear it and I wouldn't be surprised if I get through a whole bottle of this. It's a shame it's so hard to find! Not sure why they are not offering this online in the U.S. Compared to the other Goutal scents I know or have. this is a little more moody and complex. I didn't like Ninfeo Mio much (too sharp). I like Petite Cherie, although its not a complicated scent. Eau d'Hadrien is my mom's signature, but I'm not terribly fond of that one, and I like Eau de Charlotte a lot. This is probably on par for me with EdC. They're not similar, but both very unique and French.

This was my first venture into the world of Annick Goutal. Unfortunately I just do not have the right skin chemistry for GRAND AMOUR. At first I got beautiful hyacinth and lily fragrance but in less than one minute the leather tone came through and took over completely. I got hints of jasmine but it did not compliment the leather well. As this leathery smell developed it became more and more like civet with strong animalistic undertones. On top of it the scent turned a bit soapy. This scent brings an image of a leather jacket dropped in the grass and then scrubbed with soap. When the dry down came in, the leather accent finally calmed down and the myrrh came through. I actually like the myrrh in this fragrance. It is light, airy and dreamy. I know that some fragrances turn leathery on me and I do not mind it. But this one just does not work. I bought this fragrance based on reviews looking for a nice natural floral green scent. This is not what I have experienced. My suggestion is to get a sample before buying. I am sure it smells gorgeous on other people but if you have the same luck as I, you will be in a mild shock if you buy it blind like I did. UPDATE: My mom tried this fragrance and it is gorgeous on her. The start is fresh and green but a bit sweet. The most incredible thing is when the heart notes bring the leather accent, it is very mild and sophisticated. It is like green florals with just a touch of leather. I cannot even describe it but it smells beautiful. I gave this bottle to my mom as she absolutely fell in love with it.

Based on a .5 ounce EDT that I own, I just purchased a full bottle of the EDP. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will be very close to the EDT, just "more". My first couple of tries with the EDT were disappointing. I couldn't smell anything! I thought I might have been taken for a ride by the seller, I persisted nevertheless and am so glad I did. I w as s finally able to actually smell it from beginning to end. I liked it right off the bat. The hyacinth came through and rang out clear as a bell. Soon it was joined by honeysuckle and a touch of jasmine, the former adding some sweetness to the composition, and the oh so slightly indolic jasmine just makes it prettier. It's odd, but I don't really pick up on the lily, though I think it contributes a subtle spiciness. I don't find the myrrh to be bitter. I think it combines well with the amber, adding some depth. I really don't get anything reminiscent of funeral, and I don't get anything too gothic either, not that I would mind that. In fact, I am hoping the EDP takes it in that direction, as I like haunting and mysterious perfumes, and one that can conjure up images of the "grand amour" of Cathy and Heathcliff is right up my alley since "Wuthering Heights" is one of my favorite novels of all time! I will update with my impressions of the EDP vs the EDT once it arrives and I can do a side by side comparison. In the meantime, I now feel free to spray my small bottle quite freely and lavishly!

The EDP is out of this world! It retains much of what I enjoy about the EDT, but deepens it. While I see EDT performing best in warm weather, I think one can wear EDP any time of year, though I have a feeling it will be best in springtime. I have been having a love affair with Annick Goutal the past month or so, and I am glad I sought Grand Amour, had a chance to try the EDT in a .5 oz bottle, and decided to purchase a full bottle of the EDP. The longevity is pretty decent for a Goutal, especially on clothing, and the silage remains soft and intimate. If I had to choose between the two, I would go for the EDP. It's light enough to perform like an EDT, but more complex and complete. I have fallen under it's spell. PS - earlier this evening I wrote a review on a different perfume and made a comment on how lily is a difficult note for me. In this case, it works beautifully. PPS - this really is almost all about a divine leather and hyacinth on my skin. I struggle to pull out other notes but I know they're there adding complexity and layers. Without a doubt the most gorgeous leather scent I have or have ever tried!

I received a sample of Annick goutal grand Amour from a fragrantica member. As soon as i sprayed it i thought i smelled rubber tires, it's the leather note. Seconds later it morphed into a scary beautiful unique perfume. I smell dead leaves, crushed dried rose petals laid on a leather bed. It's cold. This perfume envoked an instant vision in my mind and this had never happened so vividly to me before. I felt like it's the fall, October, im walking through the woods at night, dead leaves crunching under my feet, and it's chilly in the air, i can feel the cold air in my nose. I walk to a clearing and in there is an old cemetary with dried roses in vases all around the head stones from there loved ones. When you smell the perfume you actually feel like your breathing in cold air! A note in the perfume plays as if the scent itself is chilly. This perfume is very artistic. It's beautiful, long lasting, great sillage. There's not very many scents that can create such intense imagery with me but this one does it. It's not something everyone will love or appreciate. It's beautifully strange. I love it

I know I reviewed this year's ago, but wearing it today, it seems even more beautiful than before. Mine is EDP, and more than any other note, I get leather throughout. It's a beautiful leather, not too animalistic, but rather buttery soft. It smells very realistic of the finished product. I can pick out certain florals, especially hyacinth and lily if I focus, but the others just seem to add to the gorgeous leather note rather than shining on their own. They remind me of what I imagine perfumers in the court of Versaille would do to a pair of leather gloves, adding floral oils to cover any unpleasant animal smells and other unpleasantness. I seem to be alone amongst those who detect the leather as the dominant note. Ultimately it reminds me of a bouquet bound in leather and I just love it. Vintage version though not sure how old. It just reeks of worldly sophistication, though I can easily see how this would not work for many people, especially younger ones unless they are "old souls". I feel like it requires a certain amount of life experience to be pulled off successfully.

I adore the floral silage of this perfume. I get a blast of Hyacinth with the other florals softly playing in the background. It's very surrounding, like you're wrapped in a soft, floral cocoon. Really pretty except for one caveat - you have to get past the opening. It's not necessarily harsh, but a weird dirty green, like grass rotting away on a mulch pile. Even though it eventually goes away, it is there way too long. Once that opening is gone I'm loving this fragrance. I'm using a sample from a pack of Goutal samples. I don't know how old the samples are so it could just be that they're off from old age. I really love what I'm smelling from the silage but I'm also finding that it dissipates too fast and the longevity is on the poor side. Surprising, since I am testing an edp sample. As to the other notes listed, I'm really not smelling them except something a little spicy, which could be due to one of two factors - either this is a very well blended, or the fragrance has gone off. While I like the florals in this a lot, I'm unsure about purchasing a bottle at this point.

Oh my, what a romantic, gothic, haunting, melancholic beauty. This truly is descriptive of a grand amour, a love that lasts beyond one's lifetime - it makes me imagine a ghost of a loved one haunting. This is Wuthering Heights in a bottle. Fragrance-wise, the floral notes are both white and green at the same time, very strong, creamy but also a bit screechy, especially with the strong hyacinth note; surely not to everyone's taste. At some point it takes a clear twist to the dry down which is magic. I don't get any leather personally but mostly myrrh and vanilla. The dry down is my favourite part and I wish it lasted longer and was stronger. I have got a sample of the EdP version and based on this, I would not care to try the EdT. If it were not the high price, I would certainly buy a full bottle. Right now I'm considering some cheaper myrrh perfume instead, but I suppose I might still get my hands on this some time in the future. The notes are so natural and realistic, as always with Annick Goutal, there's nothing synthetic about it.

A gentle, soft bouquet of summer florals on a bed of fresh green stems. This is everything we expect of Goutal, the delicate watercolour palette, the lightness of touch. Refreshing and airy, the colours and notes all adding up to a bewitching, wispy, floral sillage. The white lilies are, I think, an accord of jasmine and soft myrrh and the trace of vanilla rather than real funeral home lilies. And they don't dominate, the hyacinth, lemon, the honeysuckle accord, mimosa, light rose and greening galbanum are equal partners, all light and breezy but with surprising power behind them. The barely-there isobutyl quinoline and broom base (amber and sandalwood are listed instead by Goutal for the eau de parfum but I can't spot them) providing just enough substance to support the flowers and fuse them to skin. Absolutely gorgeous. Its nearest relative is Guerlain's Chamade but it doesn't have the Guerlain vintage powder notes so for me it's an improvement (Heresy, I know. I love Chamade but I love Grand Amour a-more!). A summertime classic.

I wanted to get my hands on this perfume for so long but reviews were so polarising (a lovely spring flower bouquet perfect for a spring wedding vs. morbid, perfect for [your own] funeral...). Well, I finally got a vintage bottle of the EDP. Definitely not a crowd pleaser. Very vintage opening. My mum had lots of perfumes that smelled like this (to begin with) I smell a cloud of lily of the valley& hyacinth, amber. Very warm, mysterious and sophisticated. Most Annick Goutals bring back childhood memories, or take my mind somewhere I haven’t been but maybe dreamt of. I love Songes, and Grand Amour has a similar dream like vibe. It’s stunningly beautiful in a very oldy worldly way. Fresh white flowers go alongside dusty, heavy notes. If compared to an experience, to me it would be walking into an old, beautiful, dusty apartment, with old furniture and books. Dried flowers in vases, pearls hanging on a mirror. And rays of sun coming through heavy curtains on a sunny spring evening.

Someone here gave me a sample of this fragrance. This was not in my want list but it is now. I love soapy florals but it seems to me that everything I encountered until this was lacking something. This is exactly the kind of soapy I was looking for---green, with enough tingle of soap, then very natural florals in one concoction. My disappointment with Petit Cherie and Eau du Sud made me ignore the rest of the Goutals but I see now that I judged too quickly. If I can actually see myself committing to one fragrance for many years, it would smell somewhat like this. The lily here is very lovely and perfect with the leather and I don't know what Lydia broom is but if it is what makes this kinda woody and prickly, then I love it. This would make a good bridal fragrance. It smells white and dainty and pure.

Hyacinth and honeysuckle are florals I like. Usually I find them in in fresh, light or green compositions. Here they have a darker, warmer, background. Dense myrrh and sweet amber are deepening down to a shade that reveals a hint of leather. Very soft but very black leather, like perfectly fitted almost buttery soft gloves. On my skin this broad accord plays simply beautiful. What Goutal does with these flowers reminds me a bit of how Caron pairs the rose with warm myrrh in Parfum Sacre. Except there is no incense here, instead the animalistic element with the sensual leather makes Grand Amour manifest more profane suggestions. Pure indulgent sensuality to my nose. Downside is the lasting-power, it clings forever to scarves and clothes, but to skin it needs reapplying after 4-5 hours.

I have and love the EDP. Very vintage. Very French. I get a lot of hyacinth in the opening and a touch of lily along with spiky green notes. I can’t detect the honeysuckle. After the initial blast I begin to get leather! So many fragrances purport to have leather notes that never appear (at least on my skin). This is not the case here. The floral notes are not fresh..it’s like smelling dried flowers. There is a dusty, dry quality that enhances the vintage nature of this perfume. This will not be for everyone. It evokes for me old leather bound book, dried flower potpourri . Things get a bit sweeter and more resinous in the dry down. I will wear this on cold, rainy spring days. It is a complex and contemplative scent. Beautiful! (Also purchased the EDT, which is fabulous as well)

I got a 1 ounce bottle of this for a steal, $15 to be exact so it was a blind buy. This is a pretty spring floral. Lots of hyacinth, broom, mimosa like a spring garden after a rain shower, very lovely. You can also smell something of the dirt and the roots that hold up the flowers, it is a garden after all in this bottle not just a bouquet of flowers fresh cut and sitting in a vase, no, no.... In this bottle of liquid holds the scent of hyacinths, broom, lilies, mimosa w/ the animalic tang of dirt, roots and rain showers of days past. This is a unique little beauty. Update this to a love 😘. Amazing spring floral. I agree with @churini a bouquet 💐 of flowers wrapped in leather. For those that have seen a bit of life and understand the bitter with the sweet.

This was one of my forgotten favourites in the 90 ́s and thanks to a swap with another lovely member, i acquired it again and oh my, how could i have forgotten her. I agree ir is not an easy perfume to wear : it is not just a floral but not a real oriental either. The incredible green opening of hyacinth and honeysuckle might intimidate certain persons. The jadmin provides a bit sweetness and powdery character but it is not a huge indolic interpretation, remains soft. I just love that contrast between that fresh green opening and the powdery, lush sweet leather dry down. It is a distinct and sophisiticated frag i really love and i prefer the EDP version, it has much more body and longevity and with a very rich and warm dry down! A must try of AG house !!!

EDT: With a name like Grand Amour I was anticipating a big floral smell, but I've been taken by surprise. The first half an hour, or so, is heavy on the leather, myrrh, and musk. As the dry down occurs some florals begin to emerge until I can make out the hyacinth, mimosa, lily and rose. This perfume is flowers with incense and leather that has a dark, fresh dewiness that lasts for a good 12 hours. It's not sexy and it's not flirty, to me this beauty alludes confidence wrapped in a sensual mysteriousness and sophistication. I'm really enjoying this perfume and am looking to try the EDP as well. Big love for AG!

At first sniff I almost recoiled. This is a floral. I love florals but it’s a biiiigggg floral. Almost too much. Finally one night I sprayed some on after having too much wine, because why not, and Grand Amour introduced herself to me, slowly, over the course of several hours. Floral, lovely, but not sharp. Green. Distinct. Different. Gorgeous. She gets better and better. And better. Don’t limit yourself to a paper strip. Spray her on and give her time. Just like any grand dame, she is worth the wait.

I am in love! What a delicious creamy flower perfume. Not your usual flowerwater, but a perfume that envelops you in a thick bouquet with hyacint and lily, with a vanilla-like fullness (without being too vanilla, but it has the body as if it were vanilla), I hope this makes sense, it is too complex to give an accurate description..... But I keep grabbing this bottle (mid winter). PS: I have the edp, does anyone know if the edt is different from the edp (apart from the concentration)?

It’s been years since I wore this, and the new batch has kept it reasonably true to the way I remember it. I bought a tester bottle from fragnet recently and opened it this evening. At first spray it immediately reminded me of Chamade though, and that’s something I didn’t relate it to back in the late ‘90’s. As I love Chamade it’s not a problem for me. Hyacinth and green notes galore, along with that “damp” undefinable quality that exists in those heavy green fragrances. Love it.

This perfume is melancholic,romantic and charming!. And 'evocative,for me is a great scent, I immediately liked it, with its beautiful floral notes, which are woven in full harmony with the other notes, and then what I love about this perfume is its complexity, and its only wake, like a breath of wind,sweet,romantic... nocturnal ... that dries your tears. Among the best perfumes Annick Goutal.. Fantastic. Sillage: 6.5/10 Longevity: 8./10 Scent: 9./10 Overall: 9.5/10

Phwoar. Utterly beautiful sweet florals, but then that slight animalic note underneath, oh my god. It reminds me of a half-remembered story by Anais Nin, or perhaps a dressing room in an old theatre - cut flowers, yes, but also makeup and sweat. Hard agree with Cloud Awhirl’s below review, something of the historical harlot about it. So I find it quite sexy, but with the lightest touch. I think she’s filthy, but only privately these days. Gorgeous.

I have owned this in EDP for years but returning to it today I had to write a review. It is such a distinctly different and abundant green floral. The Hiacynth is punchy and forward, I then get the honeysuckle and the Lydia Broom and the myrrh. I love a leather perfume but for me it’s the myrrh that anchors this and makes it so special. Hmm I think I need another bottle. A grounded beauty that’s a special kind of love. Grand yes but also precious.

The Turkish rose in the EDT really stands out to me in this fragrance-that and the green note that is so strong early on reminds me of Jacomo Silences, but with a more subdued rose/floral note. I can only describe the opening as a tangy, pungent rose with a green, resinous heart. Later the leather and mimosa are more apparent. I like it- it is a complex odor with distinct phases that make it interesting.

It is a classic Parisian Spirit for me, a magical scent that transforms me right at first spray into a woman in 1960s wandering on the streets of Paris , sipoing ber café au lait on the hill side concept bistros behind the Sacre Coeur, visiting the local handycraft shops, smells absolutely timeless and beautiful, you can never get bored of it as if you ain't get bored of Beethoven's Symphony No5.

"Grand Amour" is a great favorite of mine. Voluptuous lily, jasmine, honeysuckle and rose, with a slight powdery finish. No fruity hints at all, no sugary notes: just luscious flowers in the top and heart notes, and unsmiling vanilla and myrrh in the background. Great sillage and very good longevity on my skin. Very elegant and a bit melancholic, in my opinion.

Huge gorgeous bouquet on me. No leather or vanilla. Nothing close to melancholy L'Heure Bleue. The opening is lush lily, settling down to a softer honeysuckle/scotch broom concoction. (Broom blooms in my yard in the summer, no wonder I like this juice.) With the edt, I've gone over 6 hours with it still detectable. I'd color this one sunny yellow.

This is a GRAND floral bouquet. It's has quite a bite. There are so many flowers coming at you it is hard to specify the one that is strongest. This is definitely spring personified..lovely but nothing so special.. Happy Perfuming!

Don't know how to describe this perfume with words, but definately one of Annick Goutal's must buy. Update 12.11.12: Yes! Sissi rings my bell, it's smells familiar to L'Heure Bleue EDP. A more modern and more expensive version.

a wonderful lily, maybe a little dusty and a little too sweet ... but it's gorgeous. slightly more feminine ... but unisex for me. excellent performance for edp. elegant, austere. 9/10 a must have for lily lovers.

For those who may be interested, GA EDP pairs really well with Chanel Cristalle EDT. An accidental discovery with a lovely result!

EDT (2011): after reading some the reviews I was very reluctant to try this, but having just scored a vintage extrait of Chamade (of which this has been likened to) on eBay, curiosity got the better of me. for one, i do not get any of the talked about leather, or "nasty", or civet(??) undertone. there is nothing animalic, fusty or dusty about this perfume. i am a bit confused that this is classed as an oriental??? it is a floral and it is green. lovely flowers, the kind of flowers that in real life, would intoxicate if presented as a bouquet! but in this, they gently uplift the spirits, like a breeze across a flower garden. this begins with is a green blast. and i love AG green. this is a green rose to begin. then immediately after that lily, honeysuckle, hyacinth. a dusting of mimosa. i love hyacinth, but they are the only flowers in the house that trigger asthma, so to be able to wear this (almost a hyacinth soliflore on me) is personally a real pleasure. and by the way, i don't think it smells like Chamade Extrait. perhaps just the rose green right at the start for a moment. Chamade is a vintage that is a deeper, darker, curvaceous, Guerlain, which smells of the 1970's to me. of the ladies wearing slinky outfits and skinny eyebrows, turning up to my parent's parties. Grand Amour is a bright, sunny, green, honeyed (broom) floral. to summarise: a divine (mostly hyacinth) floral from start to finish, drying down to a beautiful skin scent, a touch sweet, green flowers, with a wisp of myrrh. Lovely! really lovely.

I had been wanting to try Grand Amour by Annick Goutal for a while. So when I finally had the chance to do it through a swap, I was very excited. I have to say, though, that I sprayed it for the first time with a bit of fear. I really didn’t think I would like it, and I didn’t know what to expect. The opening is green. Truly green. It’s not a medicinal, sticky, sweet green like Aura by Mugler — which I love — but a chlorophyll green. Period. It’s grass. Wet grass after the morning dew has settled. Freshly cut grass in a garden full of flowers: hyacinths, lilies, jasmines, roses. All those petals are also soaked with dew. There’s a breeze that lifts that humidity into the air, blending the scent of the flowers with the freshly cut grass and chlorophyll. It’s that smell. The smell of childhood. Of a grandmother’s or an aunt’s garden. Of mornings and afternoons running and playing, falling into the grass. As it dries down, that intense green softens a bit, although it remains present throughout the entire life of the perfume, along with the flowers. Once it’s fully settled, that green is still there, but it no longer feels as sharp or bitter. It becomes sweeter thanks to a base of vanilla — not the gourmand vanilla we’re used to smelling today, in 2025, but a soft vanilla that accompanies and embraces the floral notes. Grand Amour is a very refined perfume. It’s a perfume that doesn’t belong to any particular era, but rather transports you to another time.

This is the edt .... I find it soft and angelic, in the same family with Eau du Ciel of course.... main note is hyacinth and honeysuckle, as others have noticed, mixed with fresh cut grass. The jasmine is there, somewhere in the middle, mimosa and rose are barely noticeable, more like a soft wind breeze from far away. What is interesting about this perfume is that despite the notes and smell, this is not a green perfume, or a cold one. There is something very warm about it, something that gets even warmer in about 30 minutes. I suppose this is when the drydown occur; fast, because on me the scent is short lived. Amber, very faint vanilla and some sort of spice, or resin, maybe cinnamon, appear, mixing beautifully with the floral notes. I think this is a masterpiece. Yes, it's airy, but I think most of Annick Goutal's creations are. It's a beauty which perhaps does not evoke hot passion, but some sort of spiritual love, and a promise of sensuality. Like a dream, an infatuation, a yet to be fulfilled desire. Love it! P.s. I cannot put my finger on it, but having visited Vienna I want to tell you, although it might seem totally random.... There is something utterly Viennese about this perfume! Pure class.

Grand Amour has been my personal fragrance for several years, I will try not to be subjective, but it really is difficult. This perfume embraces you with a beautiful hyacinth, it is not just a green and natural hyacinth, in this hyacinth you feel water with sweet mimosa and wet leather, it could even be a hyacinth in a fountain, too moist and forgotten... That is its beauty, evokes romantic situations, sensations even from another era. I can feel how the mimosa petals fall on me when the autumn wind picks up and I am sitting in a forgotten garden, with dress and hat. And remembering that summer is leaving and I feel a little cold... If you really don't like or are afraid of melancholic perfumes, don't go near him, this being that obviously comes from an English garden will hit you very hard. But wait, please don't go, Grand Amour is melancholy, but it is a serene melancholy, that kind of feeling that helps you to be at peace with memories, those experiences that were wonderful and will never come back. But don't be afraid, this perfume is a being that puts the past in front of you, so that you can remember it happily. Unique

I don't know why, but for me Grand Amour is a deja-vu trigger that gives me that crazy feeling: it's so reminiscent of something - not a perfume - but emotions, time, place, people... I can't put my finger on it and remember what exactly it reminds me of. This is absolutely weird, like getting a glimpse of your previous (or next!) lifetime! This perfume is definitely not the one for pleasing others around you, it evokes your inner grace and harmony, makes you feel different, transports you to the deepest lanes of your own mind, it's ethereal, it's atmospheric and it's mysterious. On the personal side - to me it's 70s in Hong Kong. I don't know why. Don't ask. I was born in 90s in Moscow, but this is what this perfume makes me think of: silk qipao dress, jade kitten-heels, mahjong room full of cigarette smoke, harbour air... Oriental, but not in a typical way. Thank you, Annick Goutal. (This review is for EDP version. EDT is much more transparent and seems to be a little sweeter and ambery at the same time, which doesn't create the same effect I was describing above but still has a little bit of that vibe).

Takes me to/makes me feel like I'm in an old, cozy, smoky, dusty Parisian bar in the 1920's, sipping mead. I definitely get honey with this, which is not mentioned in the notes. It feels like this would've been a very daring, & dare I say, "sleazy" sexy fragrance for that time period, perhaps worn by art models & ladies of the night, in those days. It's such a memorable mood that evokes memories of a time long past. Even tho it was created in the 1990's, it smells like it very well could've been made 100 years ago (in a good way) or at least inspired by scents of that time. A definite night scent that someone described as "old Paris" & I completely agree except there's no violet. This is not a fresh flowers fragrance as the notes would imply. It's smokey, boozy, dusty & dirty. I imagine the inspiration being: In a very old loft in Paris 1990, someone found a dusty old journal with pressed, dried flowers in it, while smoking a cigarette. A sexy, dusty honey incense. Happy & grateful to have it.

Love is in the air, Annick Goutal GRAND AMOUR, to be precise. I was looking for love in what was supposed to be an oriental perfume, but I found it instead in this voluptuous floral green. GRAND AMOUR opens big and flowery: dark jasmine, heavy lily and dewy honeysuckle mingle together initially, and as the composition settles down, green grassy hyacinth erupts in billowy clouds of sillage that keep traveling up my neck to my nose, as if to remind me over and over again that I really am wearing perfume, not just another frag. At long last, I finally understand the enthusiasm of so many AG fans. Very glad that I did not dismiss this line after three strikes, else I would have missed this. Looking back, from my new exalted vista, having seen the AG light after traveling so long and so far through dark tunnels in the night, I recognize that it's quite possible, in fact, that the first couple of samples I tried were insipid reformulations... GRAND AMOUR, rest assured, is the real thing!

Very strong hyacinth opening with some lily. I think I can detect a hint of jasmine too, and it is rounded out by the amber base note. Some green dampness in the opening too which complements the floral notes beautifully. After about an hour, it becomes earthier due to the musk while the hyacinth prevails. It reads to me as a green white floral scent, reminiscent of vintage florals, and is very feminine. The hyacinth takes centre stage, still detectable on my skin after several hours. The dry down is soapy and powdery. Longevity and sillage are moderate. A masterclass in using hyacinth in fragrance, as it is allowed to shine while being complemented by an unusual combination of notes instead of being overwhelming. The musky white floral with green and earthy notes makes for a lovely duality of modern subtlety and vintage glamour. This scent conjures up images of pressed flowers in old books for me. Nice modern take on classic accords, while being a road less travelled. 3.5/5.

Extremely sweet at the opening, honeysuckle together with mimosa and some lovely green notes. The jasmin here is sweet, but somehow very green, I can feel jasmin leaves here. I do not feel this to be an oriental floral, for me it's more floral, lovely sweet floral. I'm not sure wether I love it or not as it's maybe little bit too sweet and too much of everything, but I can say that the flowers are blended very well together. It is very easy to wear, very romantic and dreamy. I love how the sillage is very good and how it lingers beautifuly from my wrist reminding me of spring, sun and happyness. I don't understand why it's called "Grand Amour" as there's nothing GRAND about it. Dreamy, lovely, green flowers. Worth a try!

I've tried a handful of Annick Goutal fragrances, and most are simplistic and realistic plant based fragrances. Most smell like florals and/or greenery. Grand Amour does not. It smells of florals and powder and soap, with the powder dominating. The first 15 seconds were exciting for me, I smelled a pretty realistic Turkish Rose and Hyacinth over a powder base, then the powder dominates, the soap comes into play and the floral is a vague undertone of the indistinguishable variety. Not a bad composition, but not outstanding or even special. It's pretty and light and inoffensive, which can make it a crowd pleaser, but I wouldn't shell out money to own it.

What a lovely fragrance!!! I absolutely amazed! First, when I'm opened the bottle I was a bit scared, because just a big citrus blast came to my nose..but after it just surprised me...I put it on my wrist, and the opening was full with energy ( I got the hyacinth and the honeysuckle with some citrus note), but it's settled down to a soft, calming flowery drydown.( I got the lily, jasmine and soft powdery hyacint undertone..) It's stays close to my skin.This gorgeous beauty is reminds me of Salvador Dali Purplelight a lot.So,I didn't regret to buy this and I think, I'll keep this fume in my collection.:)

I think this is a lovely scent, and it is evocative of its name, in that it feels nostalgic. The "grand amour" it references is a memory, hence the funereal lily and the "sorrow flower" hyacinth. Unfortunately, it just does not suit me. I feel wrong when I wear it. I wore it today in a last attempt to see if it could stay a part of my perfume wardrobe, but it cannot, so I will try to give it to someone whom it will suit better. As a side note, the cheap plastic cap does a real disservice to the fragrance, because it smell, obviously, like cheap plastic.

Grand Amour! is elegant green floral. It’s compared to Chamade, which I prefer honestly. Grand Amour! is sharper and greener, Chamade is more soapy and rounder due to aldehydes I guess. In Grand Amour!dominates the hyacinth. If you do not have the possibility to test the perfume, you can go to the flower's shop and smell the fresh hyacinth – you get exactly the opening of Grand Amour!. Then it settles down in a bit sweeter base, but remains faithful to its green soul. I love others Annick Goutal creations!

Grand Amour is a striking, mysterious fragrance. Unique, unlike anything else I've tried before. Bitter greens with floral background. Floral scent is quite mixed so nothing really stands out. To tell you the truth, I don't even want to know what's there, I just want to close my eyes and enjoy it. Grand Amour is indeed a big love - deep and passionate, but kind of love that demands restrain. The love that is forbidden or has no happy ending. Big love with a sad eyes. Beautiful, elegant fragrance.

Just when I thought that Annick Goutal could do not wrong, and that I would just blindly purchase every fragrance in their line... I procured a 1.0 oz bottle of the EDP, and tested three times. It is a really...thick scent. And it must be the hyacinth that just becomes soul curdling for me. Every time I had to wash it off. My little square bottle started just staring at me, and eventually I had to abandon it. Hopefully it found a better home. I don't know if the EDT is a different story. Oh well.

I love the opening but then it settles into something very animalic. Its such a shame as I love the bright sweet floral start. Yes I get the hyacinth, Lily and mimosa start but they are soft and sweetened by the honeysuckle and rose. A glorious start but then there is a big whack of animalic leather and musk. I now become aware of a little myrrh and amber. It then fades away so no the longevity is not great. The sillage is poor. I envy anyone for whom this works as I LOVE the start.

A unique spring floral, in part due to the addition of leather, myrrh and broom with those florals. I also pick up a citrus note (broom maybe?) in the opening. There’s a lovely, sour green scent through the entire drydown. Grand Amour is unusual because it’s 24 years old and has managed to retain its charm. I can’t say that about too many fragrances in my collection. Vintage but still very wearable, and not sure if anyone else has said this but it’s unisex.

I bought this when I was on holiday in Singapore and loved it - the notes of rose, jasmine and mimosa seemed perfect in the lovely Singaporean climate and the holiday mood. When I wore it back home, however, it just seemed a bit lacklustre and I'm sorry to say I got bored of it very quickly. I still think it's a very nice scent but it's not interesting enough to hold my attention and in my opinion it's not worth the price.

I am wearing this today to celebrate fall. It is growing on me. I have reviewed this earlier, and said it reminds me of opening a trunk full of happy memories. I think I have pinpointed why that is for me. The rose, leather, and jasmine give the impression of dying flowers, like a bouquet left to dry. And that evokes for me the drying leaves of fall, as well as a trunk in which you might keep your dried bridal bouquet.
