Tenue de Soiree

Just to be clear, I’m a man. I originally purchased Tenue de Soirée by Goutal for my wife, and she absolutely loves it. The surprise is that I ended up loving it as well, and I wear it myself from time to time. To my nose, this is very much a unisex fragrance. When I’ve worn it, I’ve even received compliments from coworkers. The opening has a soft bergamot note, but it’s not a bright, sparkling citrus. It feels gentle and delicate rather than sharp or energetic. The iris that follows is also different from something like Dior Homme. It doesn’t have that lipstick-style iris; instead it comes across more powdery and comforting. As it settles, the base becomes incredibly soothing. The mix of patchouli, musk, leather, and caramel creates a soft, almost pillowy warmth. There’s something very relaxing about it, smooth, slightly powdery, and quietly elegant. In the end, it turned out to be a win for both my wife and me. Scent: 8.5/10 | Longevity: 8/10 | Projection: 7/10 | Overall: 8.5/10

This outstanding scent of blackcurrant wrapped in iris, spiced by patchouly is a perfume I never believed would grow so much on me. The notes aren't the ones I usually reach for and on the first few tries this didn't appeal much to me. The turnaround happened once I put it on before going to bed and waking up to it remaining there, soft and sensual. From my own nose, I never noticed it was sweet, since I usually reach for sweet, oriental perfumes but a fellow fragrance lover pointed it out to me. Tenue de Soiree is a perfume I can reach for in any occasion or weather, universally appropriate, and the picture of it I paint in my mind would be the summer evening with a light breeze, dressed in something elegant, fluttering and also cozy. I'm jealous of anyone standing down the wind from me while wearing it. Kilian's Adults is somewhat similar to this one, though I prefer Tenue, which appeals better blended and more sophisticated.

I've only tried this fragrance in warm weather so far but even so I've noticed it changes character quite a lot depending on the temperature so I am very excited to try it in the winter. That being said, on me this is a warm sweet and elegant black current and iris scent. I do not detect much patchouli on my skin, which is a shame since I am a huge patchouli lover. It has a slight kick from the leather which makes it quite unique. While I love it on myself, I certainly didn't expect it to become such a huuuge compliment getter as it did. I wore it on the night out with friends and every guy (Tenue de Soiree seems to attract them like flies) commented on my fragrance and even asked me what I was wearing. That almost never happens, most of my friends are quite nose-blind. This is becoming one of my signature scents for sure. The sillage is quite good, not impessed with the longevity though. I can see this being a safe blind buy.

I am playing with my sample today. Yes, it reminds me of Bottega Veneta which I love, but I am more drawn to this fragrance. Although it does not have oak moss, it is indeed a chypre - the other ingredients pull it off. Secondly, I love the opening! It is not as astringent as BV is, and the inclusion of more fruit and the caramel, softens it more and makes it more wearable in my opinion. The leather is in the backdrop, and it is not too much. I tried all the other frags in the line up from the Oiseaux group, and I think this may be the one I purchase. I don't care for Nuit et Confidences - that is just a vanilla to me although well done. I don't like the Folie one, because it is too masculine Tabaco for me. I will try the Etoile d'une Nuit, and then make my final choice, but I am quite impressed by this one. I love the patchouli which is producing the oak moss effect in my opinion.

I got this after hearing several people rave about for about 2 years, and boy are they right! This was love at first sniff. The initial spray is pretty fresh, but then it sets into an amazingly elegant and sexy powdery sweet iris. I get full iris and caramel. The rose is not overly powerful, more like a suble hint. The patchouli gives it a bit of bite, but doesn't kill my nose. You do get the leather note, but it's more in the line of a fine leather glove. Compared to other scents where I go noseblind pretty fast, this one I can feel for the entire duration. On skin it has great longevity and on clothes it smells for days. The store where I got it sprayed 2 puffs on some wrapping paper, and 5 days later, that paper still smells when you pass by it. I'm apprehensive when it comes to hypes fragrances, but this one definitely deserves its reputation!

Rich, jammy, powdery, sweet, patchouli with an ever so slight animalic at the base. This line by Goutal is very different, stronger, bolder than the other offerings from the house of Goutal. But these are the types of notes I look for in a perfume - not at all a "skin scent" not meant to smell like you just got out of the shower - and honestly, why pay to smell like that when I can quite literally do the job with a scented body wash and lotion for a fraction of the cost. This is a perfume that harkens back to a more glamorous approach in perfumery - right down to the pom pom topping off this lovely bottle. I very much appreciate this perfume and recommend it to those who are looking for something that stands out from the crowd.

This is a very interesting scent. Immediately you get blackcurrant but it's not sweet. It's almost tart and sour. Almost. Because right behind it is a creamy caramel that's making the blackcurrant smell multidimensional. There's also a very faint hint of leather - like it's way deep in the background - and it's only there to give the top and heart notes a solid and animalic foundation. There's also something green and spicy here. Very faint but it smells like the leaf of a spicy plant. In any case this is very feminine scent. I think this will work for women over 25 but women as young as 20 can rock this if they're adventurous or want to be taken seriously. However longevity is pretty weak.

Elegant, ethereal, hypnotic and intriguing. There is something so comforting and addicting about the base notes of this fragrance, so much that I often find myself wearing it to bed. Sometimes if I haven't worn it in a few days I will catch it lingering on clothing I've worn, breathe it in and I feel like I'm melting. It's ever so slightly animalic in the most comforting addicting way, like what I'd imagine the pheromones of a beautiful high class woman would smell like, mixed with the elegant aromas of her makeup and the luxurious European body lotion that she's wearing.

This is my new favorite perfume for when I want to smell classy and feminine, without being loud or risque. The iris and leather stand out the most for me, especially in cool weather. Warm weather brings out a bit of the black currant, while I hardly detect patchouli at any time. Don't buy this if you're looking for noticeable patchouli. Get this if you love iris and soft,feminine leather. Also I know it's not on the list, but I truly smell woody notes. Not sure how that happened. Sillage is moderate and longevity is moderate/long- lasting.

Out of the 100+ perfume samples I have gotten in the last few months, this is one of my favorites and one I'm actually thinking of buying a full bottle of when I go to Lucky Scent's actual store. It's not heavy or overbearing, not too sweet, and is in fact very comforting to me. There have been days where everything's gone wrong, and I've said "Enough!" and climbed into bed hours early with a book and this perfume on me for comfort's sake. It's a very beautiful, high quality perfume.

Lavish elegance. 💜 The soft puff of fur, and the way perfume particles cling to it whether by accident or intention creates something truly beautiful. It’s a beauty I adore so much, I wish I could drink it. The first time I smelled it was in Munich, and I bought it immediately. Since then, I’ve purchased it twice more and I wouldn’t mind buying it again. It’s the scent of an elegant, wealthy, beautiful, and truly distinctive woman. I absolutely love it.

On paper this isn’t something I’d normally go for, but I was handed a sample when I was shopping in Dubai and knew I had to have it! It’s quite unlike anything in my collection. The black currant is dominant on my skin, it’s strong but light, slightly spicy, a wee bit fruity, and just totally divine! I prefer scents that are subtle but definitely there, and the silage is perfect. Halfway through my bottle already and would definitely buy another.

It's not bad at all. I knew it reminded me of another scent on the first sniff. Yves Rocher Iris Noir but I prefer this as not quite so cold from the iris and a touch sweeter. A big hit of patch, something spicey and oakmoss are very evident on the drydown. Yes, it's a chypre alright. I find it quite a simple fragrance considering it is an AG creation. I would wear this when going out in the evening. Moderate sillage and above average longevity.

It's a beautiful woody iris but I gave up mine. I decided to gift my bottle to friends. It's beautiful but unfortunately too too simple and I am just not impressed. It's woody, simple, slightly powdery and musky, mostly feminine of course. I don't feel the caramel a lot to be honest. And I am generally not a fan of patchouli either, maybe that's why this perfume didn't work out.

Smooth iris, sweet, pleasant, classy and ...sexy! It is a powdery cloud persistent and seductive. Akoyumi said: 'Smells like a young witch strolling through Times Square at night.' what a wonderful, Image! Kudos!! I could not say better !!! but I prefer to think that the young witch is strolling at night in Paris, to give hommage to the Goutal creation! 4/5

When I initially sprayed it, it smelled familiar. I can't place whether it reminds me of Dark Kiss by BBW or Secret Wonderland.... Either way, this is just a gorgeous fragrance. The only thing I worry about with fragrance is its staying power, so if this lasts, I would definitely buy a full size bottle. I think it smells a lot like La Vie Est Belle Oui.

it could be a stunning pileup between my wise elegant and grown up Gris Dior’s transparency and a gluttonous LVEB-patchoupraline style base. I feel attracted and tortured. Edit : The attraction wins. The maid has stolen the dress of the countess, she is having fun but keeps her sharp accent and put too much sugar in her glass of wine. That’s all me.

Fruity and patchouli are similar to Gucci Rush , but elevated . With a powdery and dry undertone. The leather is hardly detectable and on my skin I do get a nice dose of the caramel giving it a gooey texture. This is perfect for any occasion, inoffensive. It’s very classy as well. Lasts about 5 hours on my skin , with more intimate projection

This perfume is absolutely lovely for fall! It’s girly yet sophisticated, perfect to wear with a mauve sweater and lipstick on a cool day, but could also work for a special occasion. It smells heavenly when sprayed on clothes...there’s just something about the sweetness of the caramel/blackcurrant and coolness of the iris/patchouli!!

This fragrance is so beautiful. I love to wear in cold/cool weather. The initial spray puts me in the mind of a luxurious, concentrated, 80s bath oil, but the dry down is soft, powdery, and feminine. I wore it to dinner a few days ago and my friend told me that I smelled so nice and "expensive". LOL!

This is new to me, but after 2 days of wearing I must say it is an interesting and complex fragrance. I'd describe it as a sour scent, but in a good way! I get sour bergamot plus the jasmine and rose, topped off with a bit of leather. I wasn't sure I'd fall for it at first, but now I love it.

I really like this one, and I am usually not a fan of fruity scents! The opening is quite fruity with berries. The first minutes it reminded me of YSL Parisienne and the first Guerlain la Petite Robe noire, only better! It's not really original, but it's very, very pleasing!

To me this purple pompom, is Fruity musky perfumes, I don't really get the powdery and the flowers. Don't get me wrong, it is unique and addictive, there is something classic in a very beautiful way when I sniffed it,I dunno what it is.Im glad add it in my collection

First spray is beautiful, a bit sweet and floral. Very fresh, clean and uplifting with a Very discrete learher note. Perfect daytime (and beginner) leather fragrence although the line is called Oiseaux de Nuit (Nightbirds) Delightfully clean drydown🥰 I love it!!

Very feminine and loveable scent to my nose. The accords well balanced and so great combination with floral, patchouli and caramel etc. Not overly sweet but fairly and quite powdery, too but it’s a beautiful scent. I love it every time I’d wear.

I haven’t even had it for a whole month and I’ve already used up about 1/4 of the bottle— which never happens! It’s so incredibly beautiful!

OH GOSH, this perfume is just something extra, its so sensual. It gives me butterflies and makes me calm at the same time. Its just heaven.

This is such a peaceful fragrance, but sexy and girly at the same time. I LOVE the iris powdery note. So elegant!

The opening of Annick Goutal Tenue de Soirée has a sort of yeasty/alcoholic aspect of iris, but there's nothing rooty nor earthy in sight. As the fragrance gets warmed up on my skin after about 10 minutes, the violet aspect of iris and the patchouli meld together and bring out a sweet plum accord. At the same time, the texture of the iris is creamy, even a bit waxy at times, which makes me think of a fruity-flavoured lipstick rather than powder puff on a boudoir. The Annick Goutal website describes Tenue de Soirée as a sweet and contemporary "chypre", and it indeed is so, because the fragrance becomes sweeter and sweeter as it dries down, and the plum also becomes less tart and more sugary, until it finally transforms into a cloying raspberry. I suspect there's also some tuberose/ylang-ylang at play, which amplify the sugary aspect of the fragrance. The overall effect is not dissimilar to a lot of popular gourmand fruitchouli on the market, albeit slightly smoother and more rounded thanks to the creamy iris. There isn't any significant transformation afterwards, except the spicy aspect of patchouli becomes a little bit more percevable as the sweetness finally calms down. The sillage is relatively close, and the longevity is around 10 hours. I find Tenue de Soirée more enjoyable than a few saccharine fruitchouli. Thanks to its velvety iris, it feels more polished and less invasive than certain sugar bombs. But overall, I'm still very disappointed with Tenue de Soirée. Once it reaches its plum/raspberry creamy fruitchouli phase, it becomes very monotonous. I can hardly detect any nuance whatsoever. Combined with a big dose of sugar, the scent is very tiring to my nose and my interest as well. Moreover, I find it lacks the retro elegance and the whim in a lot of AG's offerings. I probably would never think of Annick Goutal when smelling Tenue de Soirée blind. I would recommend it to those who are interested in a fruity lipstick fragrance or a smoother gourmand fruitchouli fragrance. But if you are fan of AG's early offerings, I would suggest keeping in mind that there might be a significant change of style.

A rich, dense and satiny perfume that is also polite, restrained and wears close to the body with the exception of a bizarre top note of windex. I’m not the first to notice this and like the other person that commented on it, I actually don’t find it objectionable in this perfume. Which is strange. Normally if I read there was a chemical overlay on a scent it would turn me right off. But Tenue de Soirée is so generally polite- with the friendliest and lightest leather, the smoothest powderiest iris, and a fruitchouli blend that looks like it should make a big impression but really doesn’t. It hums along under the surface adding some depth but no real presence. All to say TdS needed something in that refined mix and in this case it’s windex and in this case it works. I actually don’t know what is providing the window cleaner note but I’m guessing it to be whatever bergamot was used because I also smell this exact thing in Zoologist Rabbit and bergamot is the only common note other than patchouli that I see. Or it may be an unlisted aromachemical. For me it really detracted from Rabbit, sadly. But here it adds just the right amount of pique or zest or whatever you want to call it. As noted TdS wears close to body but on my skin it lasts at least 10 hours. It would be appropriate for just about any person at any time. It’s a classy low key fragrance that manages to be just different and interesting enough.

Dark red fruits, leather, lipstick iris and patchouli. If Tenue de Soirée had a color, it would be somewhere between burgundy red and purple, so the bottle fits it perfectly. Fragrantica lists black currant as the only fruit note, the official Goutal site says it's red fruits. To me it smells like a mix of berries and plum. The leather and patchouli mixed with a very light hint of caramel give the scent a kind of chewy texture, which I really like. Due to the powdery iris it still feels elegant. Tenue de Soirée means evening dress, but I don't think this is exclusively a scent for formal evening wear. I could also see it paired with a black leather jacket, a glittery party outfit or even a feminine business look, provided your workplace isn't extremely strict and boring. It's very versatile, as long as the temperatures are cold to mild. This is not extremely original or unique, the scent profile feels familiar to me. It's definitely similar to Bottega Veneta and Rihanna Rogue. I have tested those years ago, so I'm not 100% sure if Tenue de Soirée really is better or if my tastes just changed a bit, but from what I remember, it seems more sophisticated to me. They all have a structure that recalls Gucci Rush. This is also somewhat close to my beloved Atelier Silver Iris, with less powder and leather instead. I could go on, but enough with the comparisons, this is still a lovely scent in its own right.

I like this fragrance well enough but not for the price. I can see why some here have compared this to Bvlgari Spendida patchouli tentation but I own that one and like it better. The Spendida lasts long and projects better than this Goutal. This is the second of the pom pom line I have tried and from what I am smelling they are not worth the asking price. Personally I prefer Goutals older fragrances. The black current is very prominent here and while I do enjoy black current, it is everywhere and I already have enough of it in my collection. I was expecting a bit more va va voom to be honest. This is very run of the mill, tart black current, powdery iris (but not to powdery or it might offend!) and lots of caramel. Needs more leather but it is something that the younger set will like to wear and feel grown up. A nice perfume don't get me wrong but this type can be found cheaper. Dries down to black current flavored caramels. With leather, a very subtle leather. This is nice but I don't think I will spring for a FB. Also, I will say there is nothing "evening gown" about this fragrance. I'm wearing my samples today 10/5/24 and I find it to be a very casual, stay at home on a weekend perfume. Nice but super casual.

In the top this is ALL about the black currant! This is a fruity fragrance out of the gate with an underlying powdery element. A fruity floral. Unimpressive for the price. But as the currant tones down and you see the nuances of the powdery iris playing with the musk and patch. Then, you start looking for the leather. Looking. Searching. But, still the currant steals the show in the top and middle. Then, then, wait for it. The sweet fruit gets a little more tart and sharp. It almost has this rhubarb quality to it. But, down through the middle into the base, this is a fruit fragrance, not a chypre. No oakmoss to be seen. I keep hoping for something to offset the fruit but I don't get it. Basically, fruit, patch and iris powder but the powder lurks. It's not a powdery fragrance. The closest comparison? A powdery version of La Petite Robe Noire.

Fragrance of modern cut and languid achiprada. Tenue de Soiree is a fruitchouly iris that starts already with a flashing aroma of very streaked iris that turns as it evolves: as with berries, fruity, sweet and creamy for what a good amount of Evernil (canned or oakmoss ) And a musk cocktail are noted. The patchouli is not very noticeable and the assembly of this arrangement pulls more towards the sweet touch, like chocolates and clean musk. It is curious, but the fragrance starts rather soft and as it evolves towards drying it is gaining more body and strength. The aroma is fine and elegant, but as aroma is not that it brings much novelty. The fragrance revolves more towards the feminine side but I also find a unisex potential of nocturnal character. Contrary to what some prior reviews mention, I don't get any powderiness. This one to to me smells like sweet dark red fruit. It's airy and smooth, not grainy, and has that sweet synthetic ingredient that many Macy's perfumes have which makes it project far. But it's not very long-lasting for the price. It's a nice sexy, feminine nighttime scent. However, not a wow factor for me. Also, this smells very similar to Montale's Dark Purple. I think Dark Purple though is stronger. Smell: 7 out of 10 Longevity: 5 out of 10 For reference, I'm female.

Opens sweet, girly, light and cold. Iris opens the fragrance up into something a little warmer, dry and powdery. Very classy, vintage-esque, with a modern sweet twist. I think this is borrowing from a lot of other things but doing it so well and with some great originality. I'm not normally endeared to these types of fragrances, but I like this one. You kind of get everything with it. Classy and timeless, a little mystery with the patchouli, modern youthful sweetness, and this kind of bad girl dry down. I think it's wonderful. 7/10

I'm also here because of the Bottega Veneta comparison lol ... I don't find this to smell synthetic, like other reviewers, but it's definitely much sweeter than BV and less complex. It's a nice fruitchouli! I thought I didn't like fruitchoulis but I think I just don't like loud/heavy ones, and this is light and smooth enough to be very pleasant. But at the end of the day, I don't love it like I love BV, and it's a little too simple and flat to want to commit to a full day of wear. I would love smelling this on someone else though.

This is very pretty, but also pretty interesting. It balances those two qualities well. It’s the signature scent of a rich person who can afford to spray it like a body spray, because it’s not very potent after 5 minutes. The iris isn’t a powdery one, and the caramel isn’t the juvenile overly sweet kind. Hours later, it smells like a men’s date night cologne, which is like a fun little secret because I really enjoy it but no one else would ever know since it fades so much.

Recently purchased a bunch of carded samples and this was the standout among a slew of stinkers. The only word that comes to mind is “lovely.” It’s fruity, soft and powdery in a feminine lipsticky way. Not a big projector. Sits pretty closely to the skin. Longevity’s not stellar, but it’s really pleasant and something I want to smell on the regular. Have nothing else like it in my collection. Definitely full bottle worthy!

The first thing I thought when i smelt this was "sexy" It smells sexy, expensive and attention grabbing There is definitely plum in this and possibly some other sour fruit. If you found bottega and rihanna rogue too leathery I highly recommend you try this. To me its so similar except no leather and a little less patchouli. I did notice a funny note in this that smells cold and creamy, guessing its the iris? I love it.

First impression: prominent citrus (much more so than the black currant) and iris powderiness. The woody notes come out after the first 1 hour or so. I cannot pick up much floral notes. The opening citrus+iris reminds me of Shalimar Souffle EDP. I like it and find it a good office/work scent for day time, and it sets itself apart from the typical "feminine floral perfumes" (which I like too!).

I blind bought this in Paris when it had first come out. This is a very cool night scent. As a lot of fragrances assume night with boozy and spicy, this perfume is the complete opposite. Cold and slightly masculine. In no way am I saying this doesn’t smell feminine, but a man could wear this. I can see where other reviewers are saying it is dated. I totally agree. Like but not love.

This is nice but it reminds me too much of Gris Dior and Bottega Veneta (both of which I own)...If I smell my wrist deeply, it is more of a watered down version of Bottega Veneta...an Iris laced with leather, oakmoss and rose. So I will enjoy the sample I got and definitely move on.

An absolute stunner of a fragrance smells wonderful and intoxicating in a good way my very glamorous mum she wears this a lot and always gets stopped to ask what she is wearing as it smells gorgeous

Fruity notes, led by a sweetly tart blackcurrant, create a light and pleasant opening from which a powdery, intimate iris gracefully emerges. The entire composition feels elegantly understated.

It has a girly lipsticky vibe. Also, as a patchuli hater, i find this version of patchuli very nice and refreshing, not annoying at all. Very nice plesant well done scent.

Blackcurrant and iris for a perfume for fall and winter. Original to my opinion, not gourmand but warm and cosy, difficult to describe. It can be a signature scent.

Part fancy, part flirty. Whenever I smell this, I can’t help but imagine a tall elegant woman wearing a fancy ball gown while eating some cotton candy.
