American Dream

Simpler than expected. Absolutely love the blast of petitgrain in the opening, but the lavender is pretty weak. Excellent light-handed use of tonka, but the jasmine is unfortunately the halitosis/bad breath sort. Yup. It's not strong but it's noticeable. Bit of a transition so it's not exactly linear, but the whole thing is more like the smell of fresh skin or paper than an outright perfume. Think SJP's Stash without the woodiness or pepper. Just a dab of patchouli in the base but I don't really get the oakmoss - more of a nice musk. No obvious barbershop vibes either. All in all, a gentlemanly scent to be sure, but in the way the boundary between skin and the inside of a collared shirt might smell after it's been on for a couple of hours. Perhaps in the same genre as Guerlain's Heritage edt, only fresher at the top and without the soapy patchouli, orange and spice. I can see it being a wonderful signature for a young father. Has that sort of reliable dad vibe. Oh, and despite the simple look of the bottle, the cap is super heavy metal and the atomizer is quality. Glass is even better than the stuff Histoires de Parfums uses and the box it comes in is just superb. An underestimation on my part! Very decent blend, lovely presentation and slightly above average performance for the style of scent. Gotta say that I'm satisfied. It's humble, casual, yet attractive - a timeless fragrance for virtually anyone, any time. Never mind the rocks. It's solid. Scent - 7.5/10 Longevity - 8/10 Projection - 6.5/10 Overall - 7.5/10

American Dream is decently rendered (I am amused by the idea of reading that phrase out of context), with the citruses blended beautifully, in a manner similar to that of Chanel Pour Monsieur or the long-discontinued Trophée Lancome. I can also name several others as well, which means have a distinct feeling this one is good, but isn't gonna blow up my skirt. This is a well done fusty gentleman's citrus chypre, no rough edges, a tasty jasmine in its heart, and it has legs. I must say, I like it, I like it a lot—but I don't need it.

This fragrance starts very green and slightly spicy thanks to the basil. But give it a little time—on the skin it softens beautifully into a smooth, balanced blend that feels effortlessly elegant.

The effortless elegance of a gentleman. A bright citrusy freshness with that marvelous „musty dusty“ mossy green shadow of old world Chypre fragrances of a bygone era. A certain creamy musky hint adds a contemporary touch. Longevity and projection are great on me (if you care, it is too much discussed these days, it has nothing to do with beauty). If you like Dior‘s Eau Sauvage, Chanel‘s Pour Monsieur, Xerjoff‘s Fiero, Roja‘s Scandal, Mazzolari's Augusto & Le Galion‘s Eau Noble (2014) this one is really worth a try. I felt immediately in love with it, just great.
