Evolution

Bright and fizzy aldehydes for days. Evolution, as many others have said, is a nice luxury hotel soap scent. It's invigoratingly fresh without relying on citrus alone. The aldehydes do all the heavy lifting here, and boy do they perform! The florals are there to give smoothness and nuance, but in no way is this a "floral" fragrance. (And I'm scratching my head as to why anyone has voted this to smell feminine, it's a unisex scent if there ever was one.) Beyond the freshness, there's a lot of depth here, with the woods and ambergris giving it a bitter-tinged musky undertone. This is one of the best soapy scents I've tried and is a new favorite for the warmer months. The only downside is the price. While its scent and performance are great, I personally have a hard time dishing out $175 for a relatively straightforward soapy scent, even if it is easily among the best in its class. I'm hoping it might eventually find it's way to discounters. I have a feeling that If it was readily available at discounters for $100, this would be in everyone's collection.

I smell a luxurious orange European soap with a slight 7Up soda twist. I don't get any thing else and I like that. It stays smelling like this orange 7Up soda soap. This is a new favorite!

Someone else called this "fizzy" smelling and I agree, it's honestly wild how something can *smell* carbonated!! Very light, which makes sense, although I wish it lasted longer :( that said, it's very pleasantly unique. Touches of citrus add to the scent without being overtly fruity or sweet. The overall impression is clean, fresh, and weightless. A truly unisex scent, as well, if that's a factor for you.

Aldehydes. Aldehydes! ALDEHYDES! Yep. Those are aldehydes. Clean, effervescent, sharp, and soapy aldehydes. There might be a hint of other things in there, namely ginger, some non-descript white florals, and a twinge of some woods & ambroxan in the dry down, but the aldehydes really take over everything. If you are a fan of aldehydes, and want a scent that is mostly if not entirely aldehydes you have to get your nose on it. As for me, while I typically really enjoy aldehydes as they provide a wonderful soapy/effervescent quality to scents, there is very minimal nuance to this. Not that simplicity is ever a bad thing, I just wish there was a little something else to this scent besides just aldehydes. I don't think I'll be buying a full bottle, but maybe another full wearing or two might change my rating. Would work better as an air fresher imo. Nuclear performance and projection. 5.8/10 As Lex11180 said below me, as this dries down it really just becomes Dove soap. Nice!

This one's odd b/c on my skin it smells clean and soapy but then I smell something dirty underneath, which is probably the ambergris. I believe it's the ambergris in this that makes this one smell very unpleasant. I'm not a fan of aldehyde bomb perfumes either, but at least if it smelled only fresh and clean, that would be one thing but it's either the ambergris or maybe the guaiac wood that almost makes it smell like unclean skin underneath.

Point of view: you’re scrubbing very hard at some raspberry stains on a shirt with cheap orange blossom scented laundry detergent. There are other clean, soapy perfumes I enjoy but this one is a harsh mess.

I love aldehydes and Chanel no 5 is one of my favorites as a point of reference. This is absolutely soapy in that vintage bar soap kind of way from start to finish. As already mentioned there is something funky and off putting beneath the aldehydes that makes it lean masculine. As the scent dries down I don't notice the animalic so much, not sure if it fades or my nose just gets used to it but for me it is quite nice at that point. I do not smell any other notes or fruit just bar soapy funk. If that is your vibe and you are a chanel no 5 fan, this is worth checking out. It is certainly a change of pace from all the fruity gourmand stuff out there.

Initial spray brought automatic air freshener dispenser in a hotel or bar toilet to mind. Truly awful.

Smells EXACTLY like Dove Soap. To the letter.
