Ambre de Cabochard

This is simply a delightful amber. I almost could stop right there. But of course I wont. Hints of floral and a touch of fruit make just the perfect caress in the opening. Leather speaks up, giving it a unisex depth. Spices are artfully intertwined throughout, and lest we forget: amber, amber, amber. This is rich, stately, yet also comforting and well rounded. Appropriate for ladies (not girls), and quite right for gents with "somewhere to go". Appropriate all winter, but not impossible all year. Appropriate in quite a range of situations. Appropriate to say that Ambre de Cabochard is quite a masterpiece. Personal chemistry is no doubt an issue for any fragrance, and in this case I've hit upon great luck, as Ambre de Cabochard actually gets better the longer it's on me. The warmth shines through, the fruit notes develop more fully, and it transforms into something most personal. Makes me crave an absolut of the stuff, which sadly, I believe is not made. As always - your milage may vary. Test, test, test....

I bought this blind based on the reviews, despite recommendations in favor of the lighter Jesus del Pozo Ambre. Now I’m so glad I chose Ambre de Cabochard anyway! The initial spritz gives you a dose of spices, vaguely reminiscent of cumin, but don’t let that scare you off: this note vanishes completely, leaving a veil of warmth and sweetness that persists for hours, and yes, eventually transforms into the scent of blueberries, baked blueberries. I would call this an oriental gourmand. Two skishes were in no way overwhelming or formidable, unlike the classic heavy-hitters like Opium, nor indeed AdeC’s butch aunt scent Cabochard. Ambre de Cabochard is a contemporary scent for those who prefer their fall Orientals subdued and pleasant. After 10 hours, the scent (from a single spritz) was still on my shirt. And that beautiful semi-spiciness reminds me of the dry-down of a totally different fragrance: I think it's Caroline Herrera 212 or 212 Sexy.

Ambre de Cabochard is one of the most romantic scents ever made.Imagine a passionate and shy lady engaged to a young university professor, both a genius and a spoiled child, invited for the very first time at the Christmas lunch of a large Catholic family, to which belongs her fiancé. Well, I believe that she'd wear this kind of fragrance: not-so-disturbing-sweet like Angel by Thierry Mugler, with a note of "homemade" and naive, given by the Mandarin in the opening, but slightly restless and ardent too, like the notes of tuberose and ginger.And with a pain and a secret bitterness hidden deep in the heart, given the cyclamen and the blueberry. I am familiar with this troubled girl, because it's me. This warm and soothing scent comforted me while I was going to die of anguish in the midst of all those people looking at me and smiling. God bless Catholic large families from Marche region, our love and Ambre de Cabochard.

I wish I could drown myself in Ambre de Cabochard, my new 'happy scent' (thank you I.I for the lovely sample, which led to my purchase after the first test on my wrist lol). It's nothing like its original old sister Cabochard but beautiful as itself. It opens with refreshing blackcurrant, yummy blueberry, orange and subtle spice, a bit strong yet nothing harsh. It sounds strange but I get more amber in the opening than in the dry down. Then it quickly reveals its soft, warm, sweet, slightly powdery and not-so-floral heart, which I can't tell each notes except vague tuberose. The dry down is so close to skin that you need to really press your nose hard to catch amber, patchouli and tonka bean. It's overall a very cozy and sunny scent, perfect for a lazy sunday afternoon. The longevity is only about 2 hours on me, but it's gorgeous while it lasts. Plus you can get it cheaper than a body mist so I've nothing to complain.

This fragrance reacts with my skin in an amazing way. I have a slightly alkaline PH and on me perfumes change a lot; what works for most, doesn't work for me. Ambre is heavenly. It opens with the spicy, very detectable note of cinnamon, then gently settles and brings out woody notes, the patchouli, a hint of cardamom and a warm, soft heart of amber. Everyone is mesmerised by it, but unfortunately all my friends whom tried it had to agree: it doesn't work on basic PH skins. To be honest, am glad, as this perfume will never smell quite so lovely on many :) It's nice when we find a fragrance that work for us and not for the masses, so am overjoyed and I have purchased an awful lot of bottles for the times to come. This and Angel will be my signature scents for a very, very long time. Thanks Cabochard!

I love this perfume. The first spritzes are delicious, warm and ambery but sweet and a bit gourmand. BUT, it lasts about 10 minutes on me. No trail. I have to really breath in my wrist to smell this lovely perfume. I will continue to use it, but if it is always the same I am afraid it won't be one of my faves, for which it has good potential! The bottle is absolutly lovely for an affordable perfume! Edit: I have been using this for a few days, but still 0 sileage :( which is so so sad as I do love this scent. Lasting power is also very short in my skin about an hour tops. Very disapointing because I just want to wear it every day, I have a crush on it but the it and it gives me joy and makes me feel elegant every morning when I spray it, but then it just dissapoints me...

This was a blind buy gone right for me. Ambre de Cabochard is a lovely feminine amber on me. At 1st it opens with a sharp floral note that I can't discern, reminds me of typical 80s type fragrances. However, a few minutes in it develops into a gorgeous powdery/balsamic amber that I thoroughly enjoy. My only gripe as a lover of slightly heavier ambers, is that it's sillage is very soft and longevity is not great. Next time I will spray a lot more! Simply a beautiful amber that anyone, any age could wear. Soft and non offensive. For those who prefer a softer spoken amber fragrance, please don't overlook this beauty.

This is just delightful. CK's Obsession and YSL's Opium made love and the result is the pretty, quirky and extremely perfect violin virtuso Ambre Cabochard. I get pencil, quite a lot of pencil actually! I also get blueberries, this warm but not overpowering vanilla. I also get the resin that's used for aiding friction on your bow when playing a violin. As I've been playing pretty much my whole life this frag is like burying my face in my violin box while eating vanilla muffin... Wholy moly I think I just fell head over heels in love with this successful blind buy. Thanks Fragranticans!

This is a very lovely perfume for the colder weather. It smells very warm and sweet but in a good way. It is one I would wear to go out during an autumn or winter day. I have started to get rid of all the perfumes in my wardrobe that I do not like but this is staying. I smell a delicious caramel, amber but not fruity fragrance which is fine by me. A lovely perfume to have now that the colder months are here.

A bold and loud blueberry in a bottle. Picture this: warm up some frozen blueberries with sugar in a pot, throw in a splash of vanilla as the syrup thickens, and bam—you’ve got Ambre de Cabochard. A classic, strong, yet somehow still natural-smelling gem. But alas, it’s been discontinued. Why, oh why, do they always take the good ones out? RIP to one of the greats. Wear what you want. No labels needed.

Underrated gem, mouthwatering fragrance with good balance of sweet (berries and amber) and tart quality - from patch with ginger and cardamom. I like that it is not similar with other perfumes of mine and it has optimistic classy vibe, kind of that Chanel Mademoiselle or Mauboussin are having. It is spicy and sparkly, like champagne on the frost, has certain statement within and just womanish.

This was a strong, sweet amber-based blueberry oriental on my skin. It is really quite delicious, but the lasting power is horrible on me! As much as I want to add it to my wardrobe, the fact that it dries down to a vague, bitter dusty note within an hour is a really discouraging thing. I am guessing the vanilla in this one does not agree with me. This could have been a true gem!

I recently purchased a bottle of Les Belles de Ricci Delice d`Epices and got a real taste of cinnamon and cardamom, which are both present in Ambre de Cabochard. I generally don't like Orientals but this one is special. The blueberry/cardamom/cinnamon combination is lovely and all are separately distinguishable. Lovely, warm Oriental. Ordered a 1.6 oz. from Ebay this morning!

I just got my hands on this lovely bottle. To be honest I wasn't impressed when I initially sprayed it, because it was a bit too strong for me. But when settled down after few minutes it has a soft yet spicy, yummy, deep sensual feeling. I think it is a beautiful smell to wear during cold months. So glad I have it in my perfume collection.

This is sweet, warm and inviting. I can smell the cardamom and amber in the opening. Soon it follows by soft, powdery and sweet notes of vanilla and tonka. Lasting power is great, about 6-8 hours. It stays close to skin however. Smells expensive and timeless. Heavenly.

A beautiful bottle and smells much more expensive than it is. There is an almost single note spice at first, smelling a bit Christmassy, which beds down into vanilla and incense. Great for winter. Good lasting power.

Blueberries and amber, I just wish it was a little stronger and maybe creamier. But I still love it!

Today, I must confess, one of my first thoughts out of bed was “Yay, today I’m going to try my newly swapped bottle of Ambre Cobochard!”. Sometimes, it’s the little things that make life worth living. I had sprayed the perfume on a tissue the night before, and was fascinated by the blueberry-amber notes. The bottle is absolutely gorgeous, with golden liquid in a sturdy square bottle and topped with a silver bow (plastic, yes, but not tacky); it looks like a gift. It opened up with a blast of peppery spiciness that had me worried. It was vaguely reminiscent of Herve Leger Femme (which starts the same way, then vanishes on me). After the first 30 minutes, the pepper died away and the amber started to evolve. It is a sweet yet not sugary amber fragrance, subtle and not overpowering on my skin. Here in this first hour, I’m afraid it is already fading and I have yet to actually smell the blueberries. Thankfully, neither am I detecting patchouli. Into the second hour, a powdery note appears, blending with the amber to make more subdued—it’s calm, mild and cool, like a fall morning. Going into the third hour, the fragrance is fading. There are still some spices, a bit of vanilla, and the lingering powdery scent. I am finally getting the blueberry note, like smelling a cinnamon-streusel blueberry muffin. It’s not a bright, sweet berry note but rather is subdued by the spices and amber; it smells warm. Sillage is low, I doubt anyone can detect the fragrance on me by now, which is disappointing—but it is a nice little secret for myself. Lasting power is about 4 hours on my skin; it evolved continually, which to me is a sign of a quality fragrance. Not one dimensional, this sweetheart has character.

I can honestly say that I've never smelled blueberry in a perfume in my whole life (that I'm aware of). I'm happy to find that the blueberry in this fragrance smells somewhat natural, not overly sweet like candy. This blueberry and amber combination reminds me of blueberry pie. I think it's lacking something though. The ginger, cardamom, and cinnamon should stop being so shy and come out to play a little more. I'd also like a warmer, creamier vanilla note to go with my blueberry pie. So while it's nice, this perfume leaves me wanting more. UPDATE: I gave this perfume once more chance, thinking I would sell it. For the first few hours, I still agreed with my review above. But 5-6 hours into wear, I kept getting whiffs of this soft, sweet cinnamon/amber/vanilla cloud and couldn't figure out where it was coming from. I finally realized it was my own perfume. And when I put my nose very close to my wrist, I could STILL smell blueberry very clearly. It's unfortunate that it takes 5 hours for this perfume to become what I'd hoped it would be from the start!

I bought a mini EDT of this fragrance being a huge Amber fan. It a very 'pretty' amber, a light sugary fragrance with a powdery dry down. However, after wearing the Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan, it is a losing contender for the 'king of' title. If De Gres' Amber is an optimistic young Shirley McLean in Funny Face- quirky, sweet natured and feminine, Serge's Amber is Angelica Huston's formidable occult presence in The Witches. I'm with the witches! I'm glad I bought it though, I'm skint at the moment and not in the position to restock my Serge. For the time being I will take my fix of this sweet gentle fragrance and use it's subtlety for these summer days. I'll wait to go back to Serge for his full on nighttime seduction bomb come the chilly weather. I recommend it but only as a 'gentle' approach to Amber.

Initially this comes across as a sweet, fruity, taffy-like, quasi-oriental scent, with a note that smacks of artificial grape. As it dries down, the fruit gradually recedes and it becomes a sweet, powdery, vanilla-musk for the remainder of the duration, which is about 6-8 hours total. There are no obvious floral notes, which is fine with me. For an EdT, the sillage is quite strong and longevity is excellent. I can really enjoy wearing AdC and enjoy its “oriental” aspects without concern that it might be offensive to anyone else, since it’s relatively light and contemporary. Bottom line: it’s a well-constructed, fruity oriental, not too heavy, but with enough oomph to satisfy those who like to smell their own sillage. I can see how AdC could be a “workhorse” perfume for all occasions.

Must review this again because after years of extensive research and testing on all kinds of ambers, I have to say this is one of the best value ones out there. It's not as sophisticated as many niche houses, but it's such a good one especially for 20£ / 100ml. When I'm comparing all my ambers (from time to time I have all of them all over my arms to see the subtle nuances) this one is always one of the top in terms of how much I love it. It's like Isabey's Ambre Carthage's budget equivalent, and contrary to my previous review I am not feeling too much ginger in my (second) bottle. Perhaps the batch, but this one is much more rich amber and cinnamon and tonka with a twist of something fruity. Such good value.

I love Cabochard and I love amber. Do I love Ambre de Cabochard? No, but I like it very much for the warmth, coziness, balance, softness and pleasure it entails. The amber is really detectable and the EDT is a good autumn/winter choice. Average longevity on skin (it is necessary to reapply during the day), quite good on clothes. I wish the name was more original since the fragrance has nothing to do with leathery Cabochard, as in contrast, it is very mild and generally a totally different story. The bottle looks nice from a distance, but the plastic bowknot on the cap is very tacky. Nevertheless, the juice is what matters and as such it is well-blended and attractive. Amber lovers, I highly recommend it!

A very affordable, and worth your while scent if you like spicy ambres. I don't get much of the floral and fruit notes explicitly, but there's enough, no doubt, to round the edges of the ginger, cardamom and wood to make this ambre an enjoyable warm and soft bittersweet choice. Given the limited sillage (and longevity) and not being cloying, a safe ambre bet too for work or day time activities. As such, and given its affordability, it is also a good starter for youngsters/starters in the spicy oriental sphere of fragrances. All facts considered, a nice winter daytime pick without spending an arm and a leg.

My grandma wears it. I remember when she got it, I was there and gave a little smiff on it when she opened. At first I didint enjoyed at all. "Smells old!!" I said. Now, after sometime I kind of enjoy it on her. Sure is not a parfum for everyday, it can be cloying... she always wears on special occasions. To me, now, this has a strong scent, smells kinda sexy and you really can get the sweet amber and cinamon. not for everyone, and not for teenagers, and not for day time. As I said, special occasions. The sillage on it is really intoxicating, be sure you will be noticed where you go with it.

I agree with most reviewers - it`s lovely, soft, a bit sweet and spicy amber. On me the blueberry note is very much there, so is tonka. No floral notes. It`s amber, but a modern soft amber, any generation could wear this. Aftel the initial spray it gets more and more light - and then just about disappears. Lovely bottle, lovely scent, but the sillage and longevity are definitely a total letdown on this one. I love to spray it on, but you nearly have to spray every 2 hours to actually smell anything..

I love it ! I wanted to test a Grès perfume, I purchased this one because it was a good deal, without testing it. And it's a good surprise. It's yummy, subtle, deep and "happy". That's why I think it suits to young women, around 30. This perfume has character but it's also cheerful.If you like caramel, you will love it.

I usually really like this because of the amber and spices, however there is a strong ginger note that is overpowering - if you love ginger this is for you. I have a half bottle of this if anyone wants to swap for something. UK only

Very interesting scent! I smell mostly amber, ginger and cinnamon. Not too sweet, although there is vanilla and cinnamon in it! Perfect for the autumn-winter season! It is my number one amber scent!

Amber and blueberries wrapped in the softness of vanilla. I like this classy elegant fragrance, but it could be louder on my skin and longevity could be better (about 2-3 hours on my skin) as well.

Sweet, comforting, mulled-cider-ish. I'm usually a white floral-aquatic person, but this has really given me something to think about, maybe I'm a spice-person after all!!

unremarkable soft modern synthetic amber with cardamom and some black currant with lots of musk and watered-down tonka and patchouli

Its my autumn scent, very warm, cosy, elegant. I can smell cardamon and ginger in the suble sweetish oriental backround.

Slightly warm, spicy, slight incense, a bit of amber, and the patchouli somehow comes across almost toothpastey which spoils it for me.

Firt sniff and my mind goes E.Lauder Youth dew amber nude, but this one is a bit more sweet in basenote. A big must for Amber-fans. I find this to be a bit too sweet for my taste, timeless - so I think this one goes for both younger and older woman. Första sniffen får mig att tänka på E.Lauder Youth dew Amber Nude, men denna är lite mer söt i bastnoten. Ett måste för Amber-älskaren. Jag tycker att denna är för söt för min smak och jag tycker att den är fräsch och tidlös passar både yngre och äldre kvinnor.

i liked the notes and i bought it today,.What a dissapointment!!!!!!!The first seconds after spraying is very nice,like a liquer smell,but after that it gets sour,very sour,like sour peony ,even thogh it is not in the notes.Extremely sour frag.I dont like it at all!!!!!I am angre that i didnt buy a frag that i liked a lot ,but i bought this blind..hgrrrrr

I rarely regret buying aperfume, well, thats one of the few cases I do, synthetic plastic cheap smell,ambre? well,maybe there is some, all I can notice there is a kind of plastic vanilla or cotton candy,so artifficial,its on my wardobre and will stay there for years S i wont be using it...

It IS like a less smooth dupe of Isabey’s ‘Ambre Carthage’ but NOWHERE near as fabulous. This has awkward jagged edges and a fizzy Berocca note that doesn’t sit well with me.

So Tania Sanchez hates Ambre de Cabochard. She calls it a chemical fruitcake. I on the other hand, can't think of a witty name, but would say it is a deliciously honeyed and slightly fruity amber scent, that isn't half bad. Yes, it's not amber in that bold, rich and animalistic sense, it's more subdued. The composition has been caramelised, almost to a point where it starts to smell a little bit like a gourmand. I can't help liking Ambre de Cabochard despite the fact that it has nothing in common with the original Cabochard, which was sexy in that black leather get-up kind of way. This is more like an oriental for young women. I catch a lot of the cinnamon, which tends to waft up towards my nose with the allure of warm cinnamon doughnuts. I also get subtle hints of black currant and blueberries which are thankfully not dominant enough to give me a headache. Forget the floral accords, they're not there. Patchouli, syrupy vanilla and amber smother the skin in a scent that could only be described as sensual and candied. It has a bit of a maple syrup touch to it too. I'm surprised to find this fragrance so sweet. I actually expected something quite raw and dirty. Looking back at the bottle design, I wonder if Gres got some inspiration from Miss Dior Cherie when they made this fragrance. All that sweet, caramel goodness would make sense then. Unfortunately this fragrance doesn't last too well. I'm glad I gave this fragrance some time to develop, away from the pushy salesperson who wanted me to buy it on the spot. It's not my cup of tea, despite the fact that I was captivated by it at first. I think if it was a little less sweet, I may have splurged on a bottle.

This is definitely unisex. Ambre de Cabochard smells 10 times more expensive than it actually is. I was given a decant of this by a dear friend and fellow fragrantican last December but I haven't given it much thought. I was way too absorbed with the vintage Red Door that time to bother with anything. Anyway, it started leaking so I had to use it. I absentmindedly dabbed some on my arms then forgot about it until this delicious caramel with toasted pecan smell surrounded me. The sillage (in warm weather) is a monster but I have to say it suited the fragrance perfectly. I haven't cared much about amber as a note before. I thought it was just a default oriental reinforcement. However, this fragrance made me understand the richness and golden nature of amber as the star note. This is so sexy in a decadent manner. Hi I was given a bottle of this fragrances by a lovely friend of mine as a gift ( she doesn't like it, very luck me!). It's a particular kind of amber fragrance, because of the presence of fruit, in particular blueberry. I read all the opinions and I must say that I am very lucky. It lasts all day on my skin and I don't smell patchouli at all. I hate patchouli and all of fragrances built around this note, like Alien, Coco mademoiselle, Chance, La vie est belle. I don't find any similarity with Coco mademoiselle or Alien, but I find it a fragrance different from any other fragrances I smelled. I like it very much and I feel well wearing it, I don't find it so heavy as Obsession or Ambre Sultane. I think it's a fragrance that changes with skin but; I think it's in a way an amber fragrances enough easy to wear!

I must admit I got a shock when I tried this one. I had tried Cabochard and hated everything about it. Cabochard is quite possibly the worst perfume I've ever smelled. So I didn't expect much from this at all. Boy, was I wrong!!!!! This is quite possibly one of THE best scents I've smelled in a very long while. It was love at first sniff. This perfume is soft, sensuous, inviting, coressing, alluring and so much more. It is very warm and sweet and would be perfect for winter. It works so well for my body chemistry. I am completely enchanted by it and I will definitely buy a bottle (even though it doesn't seem to last as long as other perfumes do).

Definitely oriental, and mostly amber with the other notes adding to the dimension. At times it seems almost foody, but at other times it is very much a formal scent, almost better for night than day. I found it lasts quite well on me, though the initial blast of aggressive oriental does fade off quickly. Since I don't like my scent to scream off my arm and announce me before I arrive, the subtle, skin-warm scent it settles into is much more my style and lasts all day. Elegant and easily unisex. It is not sweet, floral or vanillic enough to preclude a male wearer. This would be lovely on a man as well as a woman.

I get a lot of ginger and amber from this during the first hour. Can't tell what the other notes are, but something in it smells quite familiar. The drydown is much warmer and softer. In a few hours there's just a sweet powdery scent of amber, musk and vanilla, very close to skin. I love to spray this on before going to bed, and wake up the next morning with a warm sweet smell. Overall a nice light fragrance. Does not last long on my skin or clothes (about 4 hours). Not a whole lot of character. A pleasant everyday casual scent.

I entirely agree with Forbiddenjade. This perfume is exquisite, and probably also underrated. It reacts wonderfully on my skin - a very classy perfume. Flowers and spices, with a slightly powdery trail, and a softly warm finish as base note. I would say that it is particularly suited for women who feel confident and mature enough to wear it; not a very light and airy fragrance. Definitely one of my favourites - and I am really glad that it is not very popular. One more fantastic fragrance from Gres.

It is a light oriental amber perfume. First a hint of ginger, which flows into mellow sweet evenness, not clinging ... just there. A go-to scent, nothing raw or upsetting about it. It has good lasting power and remains balanced with soft cinnamon, vanilla and tonka basenotes. I could put this on in the morning, and if there were a night event to go to, just spray on heavier, and you're set. (There are very reasonable on line deals for such a great perfume, which is "flying under the radar".)

actually this was quite a nice surprise - I usually have loads of difficulties with the perfumes by GRES (esp. cabochard and cabotine), but this just smelled soft and yet strong, with an amber that doesn't overpower nor does it leave just a hint. it's not me, but i would envy smelling this on the right woman. in this case I imagine midtwenties midforties, strong aura but not cold. kind of like sandra bullock as lawyer in the film with hugh grant (can't remember the title).
