Extrême Pureté

This is so pretty.. it’s delicate, yet grounded. The citrus is fresh, but sweet and warm.. the tobacco has a hay-like herbal quality, and isn’t overpowering. It all smells so natural and pure... Grès is such a fabulous, sophisticated house, and the price for which its scents are sold are borderline criminal -in a good way.. it seems impossible to sell such high quality fragrances for such a low price. Yet here I am, pretty much nosegasming over a fragrance I picked up for under €20. How the... HOW?? Unfortunately longevity isn’t great, but I don’t think it’s as bad as people make it out to be. Since this is a very subtle scent, I apply it more liberally than other fragrances, but even if I don’t do that I get over 6 hours, although it does become a skin scent before that. This is a light fragrance for summer though, so I really don’t want to go about my day suffocating rooms full of people when I’m wearing it anyway. It’s intimate and delicate, and that’s what it’s supposed to be. There’s something to be said for having people get close to you before they can smell you.. Even though it’s not mentioned in the notes, I sometimes get a very faint kind of chlorine note, that I absolutely dig. It makes it all the more summery and happy. It’s very subtle, more like an aspect of a different note and even though it reminds me of chlorine it doesn’t smell synthetic at all.. if that Makes sense.. I think it’s probably the fig leaf.. All in all this is an amazing, safe blind buy, for an insanely low price, that I don’t think can possibly be offensive to anyone. You have to apply quite library and reapply at least once during the day, but then again you get a 100ml bottle for under €20 and a gorgeous scent, so who cares? NB: Please don’t downvote reviews unless they’re offensive. At least 30% of my reviews get deleted because someone downvotes it before there are any upvotes. It gets reviews deleted completely. This is the third time I’m reviewing this and the other two have been deleted. My previous two were written better, but I’m tired of trying to memorise every review I write to be able to rewrite it later. This is completely unisex. Such an amazing fresh and uplifting bergamont and fig opening. The middle and basenotes of tobacco, cinnamon, myrh, vanilla, and cedar are found on many of my most favorite fragrances. Those other ones that I have featuring such notes are typically very different than this, being heavier and sweeter winter scents. Here these note remain far far in the background and Extrême Pureté stays fresh also during drydown. On my skin I can't even detect tobacco, maybe because I associate tobacco with heavier and more masculine scents. Some woodiness and vanilla is detectable in the background. But for me this does not come through as a sweet scent that you can sometimes expect with those notes. Here these middle and basenotes serve a supporting purpose, helping to keep this from going too citric and green. As pretty much everyone says: the scent is amazing for the price but it does not last long. Longevity as a skin scent is okay though. I get a couple hours. I use Extrême Pureté as an after shower scent or to refresh briefly on a hot day. This would work wonderfully on breakfast by the pool at a nice hotel somewhere on the coast of the Mediterranean, wearing some light and elegant linen outfit with no intentions to do anything but to relax on a day like that. Very classy, elegant, inoffensive and just excellent. This is for someone who does not need to be announced as people will notice him/her anyway. The only complaint is the cap: it feels cheap and does not work very well. Happens to me all the time that when I put it back I accidentally push the atomizer and spray inside the cap. Lalique White has a similar clean elegant vibe as this from my collection. Although that one is more peppery and spicy and and lacks the fig note. That fig really adds some laid back summer day elegance to Extrême Pureté, while White is more energetic and it is also an excellent clean cheapie. White would be something to go play tennis or to hit the gym after breakfast, with Extrême Pureté you just relax and enjoy the day.

I agree with Greenhouse that this is citrus for the citrus agnostic. I’ve been venturing into scents with citrus that don’t just open, but support and develop in different stages. I love a big bergamot blast in the beginning, but that was all I wanted of it. Now I’m learning how much citrus can contribute beyond that. Gres perfumes take a little time for me to get to know, to their credit, and my enjoyment. I like how quiet and present they are. Some of them are major departures for me from what I usually prefer, so I have to set expectations aside and realize what is there. I am working my way through this line, having begun with Cabotine. Cabotine, Madame Gres, and Lumiere Rose are loves for me; Cabochard seriously grieves me because I absolutely love it, but it doesn’t stay more than an hour. Lumiere Noir is my other disappointment. Nothing Noir or special about it on me. Extreme Purete falls somewhere between for me, closer to a strong like. I enjoy it - I perceive a lot of tobacco, but it’s fresh, not dried. It smells like really fresh pipe tobacco, and with the citrus it’s kind of leathery to me. I really love that. I get no cinnamon or anything spicy. Nada. But the fig is beautiful and also fresh. I’m impressed by the structure and agree with LZed about the transparent layers. To this point, Kenzo Flower is the only other perfume I have described as transparent. Five hours into EP today, I still perceive citrus’ role. Like others from this house, it doesn’t seem to project much, but waits to be noticed on me. The restraint is definitely part of its charm and is perhaps the biggest departure for me from my usual choices. The longevity is 6-8 hours, but I suspect as I know it better, I will realize it’s lasting longer than that. For me this is a successful blind buy, and one I recommend - it’s different in a very good way, easy to live with, and refined. I’m glad I have it.

This is an excellent and very affordable piece of instant wellbeing and one that I'll recommend for everyone, because it's so well done. It starts off fresh and very green with a blast of bergamot. Much to my liking, the fig is noticeable too. Heart is sweeter with a very smooth tobacco note and a good pinch of cinnamon, but with the freshness from the bergamot still lingering. Thus it feels mellow and cosy, almost tea-ish, yet surprisingly crispy. Dry down is warmer with the myrrh doing its magic. However, the bergamot is still there and it makes the scent almost transparent, even when the darker notes are introduced. It's like the scent is renewing itself at every stage, while still keeping some of the initial freshness and you smell all the individual notes clearly, though in unison. Extrême Purité is a very wearable scent that comes off as surprisingly green, yet perfectly spiced. It isn't the most complex of perfumes, but Karine Dubreil-Sereni has done something remarkable keeping the entire composition fairly light all the way through. It is unisex, can be worn in all seasons and is probably one of the best bargain buys around.

Love at first sniff! I blind-bought this, based simply on the name Gres. I had a bad experience with Madame Gres, and I own Cabochard, a strong scent with presence, though I still handle it cautiously. However, this bottle was listed for cheap in a FB fragrance group and I decided to see what else they offer as a fragrance. I am so happy I did! It opens fresh, and a bit spicy, it's invigorating and quietly optimistic. Then it deepens and warms but somehow remains light and airy. I have never had a perfume that is warm AND airy. It is truly an astonishing aroma. There is a touch of sweetness, the vanilla in the base notes, but it is never too much. It's the second day now, and applied it on both wrists and keep catching wonderful whiffs of aromatic happiness radiating as I type. Best blind purchase.

Undoubtedly unisex. The top is a really nice mix of cinnamon warm spiciness and mainly citrus with much more subtle fig leaf. Then as it dries, the tobacco in it’s own time pops it’s head through and merges to create a soft warm spicy tobacco under pillow. There’s a soft sweetness to the scent by the warming base notes, but its balanced really nicely with the citrus aspects which is a big part of it’s unisex appeal. I don’t really get any of the ‘gourmand’ aspects described by others, more just a really interesting, unique but very enjoyable take on a warmer weather tobacco orient scent. I’ll definitely only wear this spring and autumn though as the heat can over amplify the citrus which throws the balance off and makes it less appealing.

Blind bought it after reading the reviews and because it was so cheap.I never owned anything Gres although I am familiar with Cabotine the original. This is so different from anything I own! Starts a bit fresh, but only for a while and then I get the tobacco (mild),sweet spices and woods ,myrrh or something insense like and I dare to say not cinnamon but anise In the drydown.Dont think the sweetness comes from vanilla, I dont get any. Could easily be worn on every occasion early spring or fall.Love it.Already crave the other two in the signes de Gres collection.

A fresh, clean, green, mild spicy tobacco scent with a touch of sweetness from the Tonka and Vanilla. It's even if there's a tea note hidden in there. Very well blended as no notes overpowers the others. Feels like a walk along the French Riviera. Perfect for spring, summer and fall. Unfortunately the longevity isn't the best as others mention, but at that price it's just a matter of reapplying. Unisex leaning a tad bit masculine (if there's even such a thing any more). Perfectly safe for office wear. Lovely creation.

This is a hidden gem! I was looking for a fresh, summery fragrance, and I was intrigued by this because of the tobacco note. This smells so nice and fresh and green! The tobacco is mild but adds something distinct from similar perfumes. There is also a cool menthol-like freshness (doesn't smell like mint) that lends this airy quality to it. Longevity and sillage are above average for a freshie :)

A strong fresh note quickly disappears and a pleasant warm sweetness remains. Starts with a pleasant cocktail of lime, green figs and something else very tasty, reminiscent of cinnamon cookies. A lot of breeziness, coolness. Not loud, not persistent and not intrusive perfume, which is a good thing. A great option for the office at any time of the year

LOVE IT!! Although it lists many notes, on skin at least, I only feel four of them: bergamot, fig leaf, tobacco and cinnamon. It turns out to be an incredibly wonderful fragrance for a super hot summer. safe "card up your sleeve", any occasion, day or night; formal, casual; party, camping or beach day. Smells fresh, elegant and flirty. 100% unisex

I get a fresh, light, creamy sweet tea note in the dry down that I really like. (I'm a fan of Earl Grey tea, so maybe it's just bergamot making me get tea references, especially mixed with fig leaf.) I love the soft sweetness of the tobacco note.

corruscating, liquid gold. an olfactory arabesque. a show horse with discipline. not very interesting, but a very good girl, indeed.

I just got it as a blind buy (for this buck, how not to) and am testing it on skin - the fig in the pyramid attracted me, but it surprised me big time as I bought it after reading all the reviews here and was expecting something light, summery and fresh, yet (on my skin at least) after the citrusy fig opening, which is gone in 5 mins max, this turns in to a lighter, sparkly version of Tobacco Vanille and it remains like it until the end. And this means I sense a lot of tobacco, spices and...vanilla. I use the TF only during winter and mostly for evening events, this one I can only imagine suitable for spring and autumn and maybe, just maybe, on an evening event during colder summer night. It's close to a gourmand scent and If I put this on the beach I feel I might assault a flock of seagulls. It's not a love, it would be if there was more fig for longer time, but it's a nicely rounded and well blended scent and yet again Gres doesn't disappoint. I'll use it for sure.

This was something I relegated to the back shelf to try later because I could barely smell it compared to État de Grace and Fruit de La Créativité, the other two in the Les Signes de Grès line. I pulled it out in summer, away from its two louder siblings, and it sings like a sweet bright soprano in the distance. Definitely a spring-summer-transitioning-to-fall fragrance compared to the other two. It opens citrusy-green with a hint of sweetness from the tobacco and cinnamon. Eventually, it’s more tobacco and cinnamon sweetness but with a hint of citrusy green. It’s light and subtle with transparent layers of freshness and warmth washing over each other. I’m surprised how much I like it. I expected a citrus tobacco but it becomes kind of a fresh-citrus-green-cinnamon-warm-vanilla-all-at-once-tobacco. It keeps me interested.

A little gem that deserves way more love and recognition! Bought a 100ml bottle, blind, for a song. This is a super interesting fresh, crisp cologne, very citusy and enlivening. The bergamot is dominant. It differs from a classic cologne for the pronounced tobacco note that stays all the journey long. I compare it to the gorgeous and long time discontinued Cologne à la Russe (the warm, tonka bean vanilla-ambery drydown of the Gres is identical to A' La Russe) & Cologne à l'Italienne by Institut Tres Bien. Those were glorious and Extrême Pureté goes very close. Sillage is average but makes you feel fresh and put together. Longevity is good for a fresh citus cologne. The drydown is so very cozy! Absolutely unisex, and a lucky discovery!!

Well, based on how it works with my skin chemistry, this should be listed amongst the best fig scents. Honestly, this is what I hoped Philosykos to be. Slightly sweet, the tobacco is a dream, and the drydown is very balanced. It projects, it’s well blended, smells waaaaaay more expensive than it is. It is true that the layers are transparent, you can feel a bit of everything at all stage, still, it is not a mess. I don’t like sweet fragrances, this is on the end of the scale that I can handle, but at least the vanilla does not show separately.

You get pretty much what the notes say! Freshie with a twist :) The opening is a bit citrusy and green, but as it dries down I get the cinnamon and tobacco. It still stays fresh though. Slight sweetness but not too much. In my opinion right down the middle unisex, would work all year round in many occasions. Different, mut not so much that it would bother anyone. Closer to skin and lasts moderately. A gem for the price, I paid 20 euros for 100ml.

I agree with cherry_darling. This fragrance gives me a cinnamon cookie vibe, dazzled with bergamot/lemon on top. It’s a very interesting composition. Not dense and sticky but a light and transparent kinda gourmand. Perfect for spring and Fall. By far, my favourite from the Les Signes de Gres collection.

This is indeed beautiful. Delicate, green and airy, a bit sweet and spicy. It could be terrific if it wasn't so fleeting - two hours and it's gone. Still, I am ready to reapply as often as needed, because I find the artistic aspect of this perfume truly alluring.

Bergamot and fig-infused black tea with dried tobacco flakes. Gets woodier as it dries down and noticeably warmer, but it still leans fresh and cool. Warm/hot season is best for this, needs external heat. I get around 5 hrs on my skin with this.

This leans very masculine imo. I blind bought it for myself but gave it to my man lol. It smells very nice 😌

Smells like beherovka or jagermeister with cola. It reminds me of herbal liquor.

This is my least favourite of this 2017 "Segnes de Gres" collection, and I find it interesting that Fragrantica has this one down as "female" but Etat de Grace as "unisex": this one is definitely more unisex and I would even say, leans more male overall in how I read it. It's not a bad perfume at all, it's just not my cup of tea as much as the other two from the collection. They are all well made, beautifully packaged, feel very "French" and an absolute steal for their price, IMHO. Extreme Purete opens with a very "classic" French parfumerie "cologne" scent that makes me think of ya know that 1887 one with the green art-deco bottle, then we get a little bit of cinnamon coming through after that, but unlike the very herbal, slightly firey cinnamon of Etat de Grace - here the cinnamon is softer and has a little sweetness to it. There's lashings of citrus in the main body of the scent, I would have said "lemon" but it's bergamot in the notes - so the overall impression is one of tangy, clean freshness and lightness; a daywear scent. The citrus and cinnamon are underpinned by a bit of tobacco, which sounds like it shouldn't work, but it actually does, and is a rather pretty contrast. Longevity not awesome.... I stuck some on (oversprayed actually) at 9am and 2 1/2 hours later it's almost entirely gone, sadly. I don't regret purchasing this and don't think it's a bad scent at all - I just can't ever picture feeling like a cinnamony-moment and reaching for this over the very beautiful grown-up cinnamon treat that is this fragrance's big sister, Etat de Grace. In the heat of the summer, maybe? I will keep it for that time of year and give it a go, if it's a hot-weather friendly cinnamon scent that's not a bad thing, really.

This is a subtle but quite interesting scent, I have nothing to compare this to. This opens very citrusy, reminiscent of man's Eau de Cologne for me. After the lemon has rotted a bit, I can distinguish smel of natural fig, which, however, does not turn very milky, but remains crisp and citrusy. As such, this stays for a good while, and at first I was quite confused and disappointed with this performance... ... until from some where(??) here is coming very cinnamon, "apple/lemon pie" kind ambra/vanilla-tobacco scent what carries the presentation beautifully (and quite long time )to the most tail of die. Just little bit better sillage and this would touch the Angels💖. A piece of heaven for it's price anyway.

Not going to lie, saw the up votes for smelling similar to Gucci pour homme II, plus the price, and ordered it up. It smells maybe 2% similar to Gucci Pour Homme II. For the price it definitely punches above its weight. It's unisex, but leans feminine. Very sour citrus blast with light tobacco. Definitely going to be a good gift for someone, but as a fan boy of GPHII, it doesn't work for me. Still a great fragrance, especially for the price.

A citrus perfume for a citrus-agnostic; it is a very pleasant diversion for someone who usually prefers heavier perfumes and not the light effervescence usually associated with citrus. Extrême Pureté is somewhat opaque as opposed to the typical sharp, clear interpretations of citrus fruits. The bergamot is more akin to lemon and takes the central focus; its natural brightness is muddled with detectable cinnamon and green leaf-like notes. The result is a quite different, slightly woody, and aromatic remoulding of the citrus scent profile. The tobacco notes are well blended and aromatic, becoming neither sweet nor harsh; rather, they manifest in a steeped, tea-like effect that emerges fully with the drydown. Extrême Pureté has a clean citrus body throughout, but there is a certain roundness that gives it a grounded character and a softened, slightly dense texture. The overall effect is enjoyable and distinct from the tart piquancy of many citrus scents. I would be interested to try this in warmer weather, as I suspect the notes will unfold more readily with heat.

I love this fragrance, totally new to me. I blind bought it after reading about it on forums and I'm very happy I did. To me it is citrusy even lemony in a very pleasant way, and remains fresh throughout, even aromatic, while the Tonka and the vanilla tend to give it more softness after a while. The drydown is very nice and warms up a little what would otherwise be a very clean, nearly sharp scent. I am also registered on the French Fragrantica forum (well, I'm French) and I am very surprised that none of the Grès Les Signes collection is actually reviewed there. Usually, when I want to find reviews of perfumes I like or love, I have to turn to this forum, although I have no idea why. It's not a bad thing, I can practice writing in English!

I had Etat de Grace, so I wanted to give this one a try. Don't expect a citrus scent or anything fresh, this one is more of a semi-sweet aromatic perfume. It starts with stong bergamot and tobacco notes, myrrh, cinnamon and cedar come out in the drydown. I don't smell too much vanilla or tonka. The scent itself is good, it is smooth, cozy, a lovely everyday scent for a cool early spring or a late autumn day. It leans more masculine IMO, and I'm on the fence whether I can wear it or not.

This is really nice for an inexpensive perfume. I get the fig and tobacco mainly which are a great duo. They are fresh and subtle yet playful together The myrrh and tonka give it a soft, rich base. Unisex. Not niche but perfume in a traditional style. You wear it, it doesn't wear you. A terrific blind buy. ✨

This is probably best of the line albeit fairly fleeting. Reminds me of any cinnamon bergamot sugar cookie perfume such as lira and it's clones. But much much weaker. I don't get much tobacco but cinnamon is present and a nice sparkling citrus green. Sweet but not sugary. Nice scent for the price.

Like a breath of fresh air, wonderfully crisp citric fig, and the tobacco melting into it gives a hay accord not unlike Chergui mixed with gingery, pleasently sour tea. Never experienced a fresh tobacco like this. The fig is present throughout, a citrusy bright one, not the milky facets.

Its Gucci Pour Homme 2 all over again, but done so without the famous tea note. The fig note combined with the other woody notes give it a tea vibe. Done by the same performer who did GPH2, so not all surprised it smells so similar.

I had a sample of this fragrance - after applying it in the evening I could still smell it in the morning. I liked it, but I don't know if it would start to bother me after a while. I decided not to buy the fragrance.

I don ́t usually like fragrances with tobacco nor cinnamon notes but this is definitely an exception. This is super interesting cool scent and affordable too. A gem imo. This could be my signature scent during winter.

This is so unique creation. Smells familiar, aromatic, fresh spicy and mistiqe. I wish it stay longer on my skin. Soch a pity... Extreme purete is unsesex fragnance, perfect for summer

Its wearable thoughout the whole year, but really shines in the warmer seasons. Lovely, refreshing, delicious mixture of citrus, green fig leaf and spices. Definitely unisex

Not for me a blind buy as it was cheap and I was looking to expand my taste, but way to loud and screechy for me, will leave it for a while and see if I like it more.

Tobacco freshies aren't the most common sight and for that alone I welcome this bottle. It's unisex, really. Men who use Tabac Original splash, try this!

I don't know how this is such a pretty fragrance for the price. It's so soft and fresh. This is going to be a perfect after shower fragrance for me.

One more gem fror Gres! Clean and fresh but with a warm dry down...reminds me of BULGARI green tea..

Really good, highly recommend. Fresh , aromatic, with a hint of tabacco. 👍
