Madame Gres

I didn't have high hopes for liking madame Gres as I usually dislike cardamom,also pine apple and sandalwood as main notes.it was the only Gres perfume that I saw but never was willing to try it.lately I received a free sample of it and when I saw it discounted in a site I usually order my perfumes from,I decided to try it(a 3.4oz is 45$ when discounted.it seems Gres perfumes are cheaper in other countries) Madame Gres was a love at first sniff!I can see comparisons to miss dior edp.it has what I like in miss dior but strangely I find Madame Gres more interesting and appealing,Miss Dior(2012) is a lot similar in the opening part though it lacks this vibrant,mouth watering pineapple,they both calm down to much softer scents in less than an hour.Miss Dior goes to a musky path while Madame Gres developes to this warm,creamy-woodsy-vanilla base which I prefer eventhough I'm a musk lover it opens sweet and sort of boozy.sandalwood appears adorable here,blended with vanilla it creates a warm and sweet,rich and subtle creamy base to round soft powdery flowers and fizzy fruity pineapple sparke(it's pine apple reminds me pine apple in Givenchy live irresistible which I love).it's spicy but not strong in cardamom as I was worried.after half an hour sharp,sweet,spicy fruitchouli of the opening calms down and flower notes come out from the shadow to fill it with a feminine floral softness and refinement.flowers are light still detectable.I can pickup a pretty magnolia and a touch of peony and I'm glad to see flowers in madame Gres aren't abstract,non descript generic floral notes I agree with reviews calling it classy and playful at the same time.it develops from a loud and lively opening to a more serious and sophisticated drydown like growing from a vibrant mademoiselle to an elegant madam. I'd love to see a better pronaunced leather in it's base notes though it's quite satisfying as it it.don't look forward for a strong leathery base here since it's gentle and shows up faintly after an hour or two. Eventhough I dabbed a little longevity and sillage were satisfying and made my decision to order a bottle more firm.the fact that it can be a very versatile perfume is another plus.now I have to just wait and see wether dear hubby buys it for me now or during other Gres sale Edit: it also reminds me of Oriflame Possess

I started with Gres just 2 months or so ago. With Cabotine green, then Gres Gold which I love! Then the third purchase was gourmondy Rosalie. They are all very different but all offer something special. I'm a Gres evangelist now. They are right up my alley. It helps that they all cost me 15 Euro. So I thought I'd take a step up and try Madame Gres which was on a special for under 50. So it arrived 2 weeks ago. This beautiful apricot glass bottle and the elegant packaging so reminicient of Chanel No 5, which I have had a vintage bottle of for 30 years treasured in its box. Straight away this is quite rich fruity and floral on first spray.. Sweet... Creme caramel... I had doubts.. Maybe buying blind had worked with 3 cabotines and my Gres luck was out. I can't do sweet and cloying. I let it sit about an hour the dry down is soft and gourmondy, pineapple settles in and more softly, there's a warm toffee, Amber. I'm pleased it's not sweet on the dry down but classy and enveloping... Then the nicely balanced patchouli glides in softly to linger. It reminds me in moments of Allure.. I've had compliments. It smells French and expensive. I don't think it throws out that much, the sillage on me seems modest but It stays around morning to night softly stealing your heart. And then turns into an intimate. Addictive wrist glued to nose habit. This morning I decided to spritz some Gres Cabotine Gold on top of it to freshen things up. The vetiver of Gres Gold enlivened it and it was gorgeous after an hour. This perfume is beautifully crafted its not niche as I get Channel vibes from it, but comparitvely it can stand with perfumes costing 200-300 Euros. Gres can do no wrong in my eyes. Now I'm trying to get my hands on the Gres Lumiere Black, and Rose. Anyone got some to swap? I love it. I may have to update after a few months wearing. See how it performs as summer comes in.

A perfume of two halves. This goes on young, bright, SWEET, zingy and effervescent with a fairly heavy sillage. The juicy, bouncing entrance lasts for about 30 minutes maximum on my skin and then subsides to a slightly less than moderate throw. I don't pick up on grapefruit at all; this is all fresh pineapple and cardamom on me, when first sprayed. I'm not getting any flowers, either. The drydown is in complete and surprising contrast to that extrovert entrance, as Madame Gres makes a 180 degree turn and matures into a sexy, just-above-the-skin scent. The patchouli, sandalwood and leather take over - the pineapple has gone completely, although some residual sweetness remains. Spraying on clothing prolongs that exuberant opening whilst the drydown is reached far more rapidly on skin. The structure of the perfume reminds me of Hermes La Panthere, which has a similarly fruity opening and dry leathery base (although I am not suggesting MG is a dupe in any way at all). La Panthere is four times the price of Madame Gres, though; the difference in class is evident, LP having greater depth and heft to it and the ingredients simply smell better quality. Having said that, MG is a great and inexpensive (not cheap!) alternative (I bought 100ml for under £20 from UK eBay and I would have been happy with this for twice the price). I can't comment on any similarities to the 2012 version of Miss Dior, as I have never (knowingly) smelled it. I went to sleep liking Madame Gres and woke up loving it: another successful blind buy thanks to the reviews of lovely Fragranticans. ETA: Longevity is excellent - although a skin scent after 4 hours, I can still smell it on my arms 12 hours later (which is outstanding on my dry skin).

Lovely! Long lasting with impressive sillage, this pleasantly sweet, rich, smooth & powdery blend is a "must buy" for all Gres fans and lovers of oriental fragrances. Cardamom is seldom given top billing in a fragrance mix but here it's centered in the spotlight and I find myself wondering why it's not featured more often because it adds an unexpected pizzazz to what otherwise might have been "just another" oriental. Anyone unfamiliar with cardamom would be forgiven for mistaking its presence here for patchouli (also detectable in all its dark, chewy splendor) but as a baker who knows it well, I assure you it's here. And it is dazzling! Sandalwood is clearly identifiable as the source of Madame Gres' soft and slightly resinous, woody aspect. A drop of vanilla adds a spoonful of sugar that tempers patchouli's tart bite. The powdery floral aura is apparently provided by magnolia and peony but without the list of notes I'd have guessed pale pink roses instead. My nose detects no freesia, no pineapple nor the slightest hint of grapefruit. And despite the thumbnail of the black leather glove I really detect no leather except perhaps the tiniest bit of soft, pale, honey-colored suede but if I hadn't seen leather in the list of notes I'd never have guessed it was in themix either.. My initial impression was one of powdery/woody sweetness that held the promise of homey comfort and coziness. The hours passed however and Madame Gres took me by surprise as I realized she'd morphed into something both sophisticated and very "French" in the manner of "old money" elegance. She is most definitely Madame, not Mademoiselle. I am enormously impressed!

Madame Grès is a beautiful, classy lady. This is not the type of fragrance I usually go for, so I don’t wear it very often, but when I do, I can’t stop sniffing myself. It’s just that good. Madame Grès definitely had that Chanel vibe going on and the resemblance to Miss Dior is definitely there, but don’t expect a dupe, because Madame Grès is her own person. On my skin the flowery middle notes take the main stage. The fragrance is very well blended so individual notes don’t stand out that much. I can recognise they’re there, but can’t necessarily pick them out the way I can with some other fragrances. I can pick out the vanilla, but the sandalwood and leather are blended in so subtly, that I can’t pick up on them, other than that they add some depth to balance out the sweetness. This whole perfume is gentle sweetness. It’s flowery, but not powdery, so it’s not overly mature. There’s a hint of fruitiness, but it’s not juicy, so it’s not overly young. I can confidently say that this works well for a wide range of ages. If you like perfumes like Miss Dior, Coco mademoiselle and other sweet fruity florals like La Vie est Belle or even scandal, then this is definitely a safe blind buy. It’s right up there with the designer perfumes in quality, at a fraction of the price. Maison Grès is a fantastic house with high quality affordable fragrances. I can’t recommend this house enough!

Before brexit became a fact, I enjoyed blind ordering the very affordable scents from Allbeauty. Some where misses, some were gems (PM's Rose de Nagada! GR's Nuit Secrète and Belle Divinité -each on their own or paired!). Grès' Madame Grès definitely belongs in the winners' line. First to the packaging: the art déco lines, layout and lettering are stunning. As to the sleek bottle in a beautiful bois de rose - peach colour: same vein. Ok, the stopper is plastic, but what would you wish for given the modest price, right? Now to the contents: first spray is fluitchuli: floral, fruits, and patch. Then the cardamom (such a genius top note in this brew, and not rare in Grès fragrances) kicks in, and MG starts to evolve into soft fruits and florals and spice on powdery wood and leather and discreet vanilla. Comparisons have been made to a few big brand big price fragrances, and rightly so. But Madame Grès, Alix for da friendz, is enough of a Lady to be a grande dame on her own. Sillage and longevity are moderate, but the concoction is so well blended in a restrained and balanced manner that by definition it is not meant to be a biohazard for one's surroundings. In my book this is one of the most elegant EdP, in form, presentation, and content to be found for a ridiculously low price. Love! Edit: it seems allbeauty has resumed shipment to my country! <3

I kept smelling something beautiful and couldn’t figure out what it was. I didn’t realize it was my perfume. I’m still getting to know her. Madames Gres is gorgeous! I have nothing like this in my collection. I absolutely love magnolia and peony, and both are discernible to me here. This perfume is just so beautifully conceived, balanced, and blended. Subtle. I love the pineapple’s sweet and juicy presence all the way through, but spiked by citrus in the opening. Cardamom is one of my favorite spice notes, such a lovely departure from cinnamon and cloves. This perfume is deceptively soft. It doesn’t push its way in anywhere, intrude, or announce itself. It simply persists and surrounds and emanates. I’m so glad vanilla is a very minor player here - I don’t pick it out individually and am so happy it doesn’t dominate the drydown in any way as it is wont to do. The same goes for the patchouli - very soft with the leather. I agree with the review below that the drydown is the most beautiful part. A little powdery, pineapple-y, leathery on me. I’m so impressed. Madame Gres is a very fine perfume, elegant, smells so expensive. It wafts. Lasts more than 10 hours with 5 sprays. Backup has been ordered.

Extremely underrated for the profile and the price. This starts off as a dried pineapple and grapefruit smell (think fruit leather).It begins to smell very slightly like Pineapple Tarte Tatin made with vanilla extract as it dries down. For a scent that's easily under £20 for 100ml, that's impressive development. Reading it prior to purchase, I was concerned it would smell too pungent in heat. I can happily report, it seems to stand up well in the british heatwaves. Not the highest temperatures to be sure, but enough for me to know it plays well the "delights" heat has on the body. I feel Gres as a house is often overlooked as being for a mature audience. However,the more of their perfumes I smell the less I feel this to be true. With a little bit of clever marketing, I could see this becoming a tiktok darling. It leans feminine, playful and youthful. However could wear this at any time I feel. The staying power is respectable for perfumes generally (not just thoose at a If I had to compare it to anything, I'd say it smells a little like a La Vie Est Belle flanker where the sweetness has been toned down a touch.

This is one of the few scents that I immediately rushed to order a another bottle, so I can use this so much I want. To my surprise, my teenage daughter also likes this! This is smell of quality and sophistication, but in a very modern twist. This is not heavy or loud and if this resembles Miss Dior or Coco Chanel, this still has it's own personal character; pineapple make this very unique, we think. Still the scent is not sharp or synthetic at all. I devently can smell that same soft oriental kick, that can find in some of the more expensive French creations( I’m not an expert, but I’d bet that sweet, soft, skin-resistant and really addictive ingredient be a tiny-tiny little drop of real Indian agar wood...). This scent is really attractive, smell more expensive and be very personality too, Really Franch with oriental touch. Mayby the best cheapie, that I have ever wound. Thank you Madame Gres!

This is an optimistic scent even for pessimists anyway. :-) It radiates a positive love of life gives who it wear it. If you like perfumes like CK Euphoria with sweet juicy fruity florals a little powder like Sexy Betty Boop with chanel sensuelle allure vibe a bit so this is definitely a safe blind buy. I like it much more like the Euphoria. The pineapple I can't recognize it rather it's more fruity with powder and aromatic sweetnes but it goes away sooner and stay warm sweet spicyness so it best the autumn and cooler spring because its will be warm on your skin. I think teenager and young in theire 30 age can wear it. Moderate sillage and about 8h longervity. Unfortunatelly I miss the stronger pachouli from it and I find more sweetenes and this not enough mature for myself but I wear it happy in my 40. For its price excellenty product! (So sorry my english, welcome from Hungary!)

A blind buy based on the reviews of my fellow Fragranticians. It is a very crisp, cold day and my new perfume arrived absolutely freezing cold. On giving it a good spray when it had warmed to room temperature, my immediate reaction was 'this smells just like Christmas day!' Fruity, warm, boozy and joyous. As time goes by it starts to mellow down, and become more woody and creamy, but still the fruit lingers in the background. Then it's out on the country walk after a long Christmas lunch, with the air crackling with frost, and the trees and fallen leaves making the air pungent, rich and earthy, and then returning to the log fire and the liqueurs and brandy. All in all, a very successful blind buy. I love it and will be able to have Christmas whenever the mood strikes. Love it, and I shall definitely wear this on Christmas Day with my sisters and brothers-in-law.

My first 'boyfriend' used to wear this (well, not Madame Grès *en tant que tel* but an exact clone of this - it was the early 2000s and I'm sure he had stolen it from his mother, bless her heart). He had the most silky smooth satin skin and wore grape-flavored roll-on lip gloss. Somehow it completely worked and I found myself craving Madame Gres some 15+ years later. This being said, it has become my winter signature whenever i need to feel bright. Doesn't work so well in the summer (I find it doesn't unfold as well) but the bottle is staying close to my heart. Definitely one of my top 10 of all time, probably because the price is so nice. (Generally speaking, Grès is also in my top fashion designer brands... oh the gorgeous dresses they used to make! Too bad my figure is more Rubenesque than Hepburnesque!)

This is my very first time with Gres perfume. I am so excited when my parcel arrived in front of my house. Very simple and classy style of the box and bottle. But, I was so struggle to take out the cheapo feel plastic cap every time when i want to use it. So end up, i throw it away. Surprise, surprise, surprise that all I can say when I smell it. It really reminds me of legendary Chanel No 5 but it more lighter version. I was very2 impressed with the quality of the fragrance that I get with small amount of money. Sometimes this perfume remind me of how the fragrance mall/counters normally smell. Sillage and longevity is good on cloth but not on my skin. I will always keep this in my wardrobe considering what i get with a little spending. Recommended and safe for blind buy.

This is a gorgeous scent, absolutely insane performance for the price. I can't believe the criticism on the longevity on this. For perspective I wore this for the first time today, I put it on at 6:30am as I was leaving the house, I got on a bus, a train, a tram, arrived at work at 8:30am, I when through to lunch, ate lunch in a Chinese restaurant next to the open kitchen, finished the work day, repeated my journey home, 13 hours later I can still smell this on myself, and not just on my clothes. It still had moderate sillage on my train home. It opens fruity, but not sickly and develops into a lovely ambery, floral, dusty scent with little hints of the fruit opening. So feminine without being too sweet and girly, I love it.

Theoretically, I hate fruity sweet perfumes. I hate pineapple. I hate most vanilla perfumes. But I still love this. The house of Gres is kind to me.So far, I have been able to (happily) wear everything I have tried from them. So I blind bought this. The first blast was sweeter than any sweet that ever sweeted. But somehow, still lovely. The dry down is heaven.I am not sure how to describe it but it is gorgeous on me. I have Miss Dior and don't wear it. But I wear this all the time. I have two tips- 1. If you spray this on clothes it seems to stay closer to the early sweet blast. 2. If you want to get to the gorgeous drydown and are impatient, rub it.

Madame Gres is really Carmen Miranda in a Gres frock – pleats, nips, tucks, curvily elegant, mischievously exuberance with a pineapple hat in focus... then the celestial harmonies praising the warmth of the sunny flora give way to the depth of sandalwood, patchouli and leather humming along with the cardamom providing the structure of this gorgeous fragrance. Chic, fun, irrepressible; to be worn with an occasional high kick while wearing a strict City suit or dressed to the nines for an unforgettable night out.

Just received a blind buy purchase of Madam Gres, which I chose due to its comparison to Miss Dior Le Parfum. I can certainly detect a nod to this perfume, but moreso towards the original Coco, as well as Chanel Chance. If you enjoy slightly spicy, classic florals,I would recommend Madame Gres. It is actually very impressive. The box and bottle are classy - art deco style: both the presentation and scent itself seem a lot more expensive than the £15 which I purchased this for on Amazon.

Oh wow! The opening is just fab, sweet,fruity,happy sunshine! This is changing actually as I write this review! After 10 mins becomes super floral with a strong patchouli in the background! The opening is extremely different than the rest of the performance. For a cheap fragrance is super good but yes on my skin is a kinda dirty floral patchouli and I don't mind it at all,but it could be challenging if you don't like the patchouli note! 8/10 for me!

I had a meh reaction to Unique by Gres but this was an instant love! I don't really get the Coco M or Miss Dior comparison unless you think it's a bad knockoff. On its own, it's just a unique work appropriate/signature scent. That's honestly the only similarities to Miss Dior & Coco M to me. Maybe like, those with a nutty edge and less pepper? It's a classic French so maceration required. Mine took approx 4 months to ripen.

Wonderful! Extremely similar to Coco Mademoiselle, so a safe blind buy. I am delighted with this one. I usually buy samples first but I couldn't find one of Madame Gres, so I took the risk. It was a good decision! Just a perfect floral, luxurious, modern, addicting and inviting scent. Perfect for summer, spring, autumn, both day and night. Signature worthy!

I love this smell! It's perfectly balanced; a soft and well-rounded fruity floral opening with just a little bit of spice. I get some lovely warm honeylike scent in the dry down but nothing to heavy or sweet. It just wonderful. I only wished it would last a little longer on me, but for the price it's truly a great buy

After the first blast of sweet pineapple, this morphes into a real "tres chique" french perfume, feminine, warm and powdery for an elegant and classy "madame" . One of my favourite perfumes, it has a good longevity and noticeable...for me this smells "french"

Wow, this is amazing, first light and fresh. Later it turns to a deep,warm scent in the range of coco noir. Very nice, between top and groundbase it`s a little retro, but in a good and modern interpretation. I think I will love it !!!!

This reminds you Miss Dior????🤔🤔 No no no!! This is Coco from Chanel without the classic chanel dna which smells "clean". End of story. Personally I loove Coco but I also enjoy Madame gres. Plus is very cheap although it smells rich 😉

I just got my sample of this and this actually smells so nice on me! I like it a whole lot! Fruity, yet mature (I assume that's the patchouli) and powdery. I didn't think I would like this as much as I do from the reviews!

This Madame stands on her own! Powerful projection, long lasting, budget and office friendly! Similar to Coco or Miss Dior 2012, but that’s it. Not a dupe or inspires by. It’s just in the same category you may say.

love this; in the top big patchouli, next big vanilla, and lots of juicy pineapple with some freesia, peony and sandalwood supporting; in the base it is all patch

This very French perfume is deep, mysterious, and feminine all at once. It leaves a delicate yet pronounced signature wherever it goes. A classic gem. God Bless!

The pineapple in here it's just amazing I love this scent

I got my hands on a 100ml bottle with damaged packaging (therefore downpriced)and I like a few other creations from Grés so it was a blind buy, thinking this will be top notch too. Unfortunately I was wrong. Don`t get me wrong - it doesn`t stink..it`s just not my type of fragrance. Way too commercial, fruitchuli, sweet, predictable and cheap. I got better for less in Next or New Look..Most of you girls will like it, and would get it for your nieces and sisters - and you`re dead right, cos they`ll love it too and will thank you! It really IS like Miss Dior in the beginning, and on my skin there isn`t a good progression towards the leathery drydown either, it`s just not leathery, I actually smell patchouli only there, and maybe tobacco instead of leather. The pineapple note in the beginning comes off stale and metallic somehow, the only good thing about it is patchouli really as it goes on to dry down..for that reason alone I won`t get rid of it (just yet.) It has great staying power - unfortunately, in my case - it easily lasted 6-7 hours, which seldom happens on my skin, especially when spraying on just after shower..So ticks this box without fault. I don`t like the bottle either, the cheap plastic cap, oh my..makes it look like a tester. What I`ll do is I`ll use it at work and see reactions there, I`m sure half of the place will love it - that`s what happens to all perfumes I don`t like too much..:-D Update: Yes, I did get complements, however, the people who should have complemented - by knowing their tastes - did not!!! Anyone wants is at a reasonable price, message me, please..

I blind bought this online and it arrived yesterday. Tried it on this morning, a bit nervous as always when blind buying. My very first thought when I smelled my wrist was two things: This is good and I've smelled it before. When I checked this page I realized it was Miss Dior that it reminded me of. I wore that when I was in university about two decades ago; the version in the houndstooth bottle. It was my signature daytime scent back then so it is very familiar. This (Madame Gres) is very reminiscent of Miss Dior minus a doll head, marzipan like play dough note that MD had and MG doesn't. On the other hand MG seems to have less sillage than MD. As to longevity I can't tell yet. MD was everlasting, this probably isn't because few perfumes are these days. I will report back later on longevity. But the scent itself is very similar to MD, even though it seems they have few notes in common. It is sweet but in a classy, grown up way. Not girly and immature, not gourmand but not old lady powdery either. Friendly, pleasant and put together. Definitely a daytime scent, not seductive in my opinion. The patchouli is there enough to lift up the sweetness of fruit and flowers and give that expensive feeling but not enough to be overpowering or headache inducing. I don't detect cardamom or wood as standout notes but there is a spicy undertone that keeps it interesting. All in all this is very good, a solid like. If it had more sillage it would be a love. It was ridiculously inexpensive (I paid less than 20 euro for 100 ml) and it smells classy and high end. I am very happy with my purchase.

Oh my goodness. Like many other reviewers, I bought this untested at TJ Maxx. I love vintage Cabochard, but am not a fan of Gres' newer offerings, so I didn't have high expectations when I looked up reviews. In fact, I'm not even sure why I looked it up, but I am glad I did! I smell a lot of pineapple in the opening, and at first I thought I'd made a terrible mistake. I like it though. It lasts for a while, but never gets sweet. The spicy cardamom note is wonderful here. It complements the pineapple perfectly (seriously, words I never thought I'd type in a perfume review). I also smell leather, but I wouldn't classify this as a leather scent; it stays in the background. The flowers are there too, but again, not in a starring role. The drydown smells a little smoky to me. I think it must be the sandalwood, which balances nicely with the vanilla and patchouli. I swear I still smell a hint of pineapple too. There is definitely a vintage feel to this perfume. I don't see any resemblance to Miss Dior (I am only familiar with the vintage version though). It reminds me of Coco, which was always a little too sweet for me. If Coco is classy and elegant, this is her rebellious sister--still classy, but a little feisty. She smells faintly of smoke, and is wearing leather instead of pearls. I think this is perfect for cooler weather, and appropriate for day or night. Also? I paid $15 for this gem. For a 3.4 oz. bottle. With a quantity like that, I'm not sure I'll ever need a backup, but for the price, I'm going to be checking TJ Maxx until I find one.

Nothing cheap about this! I bet that a blind test would fool most people into thinking this cost as much as any of the big houses out there (Dior, etc). This scent has a dual quality - fruity, sweet top notes and a powdery, floral-woody heart and base. The pineapple is ripe and juicy (compared to Sonia Rykiel above, but I have both and no, SR's pineapple is different) but a bit banal to my nose. Within 10-15 minutes the whole thing becomes much more interesting, softer, more intricate. It does slightly remind me of Chanel Allure, but this is not a dupe or a clone, more like distant relatives- with a similar non-gourmand powdery sweetness. This scent has been on my mind since I tested it, I even went back on a different day to test it again (on blotter, skin, and clothes). It evokes only positive impressions, pretty and iridescent in colder weather. Yes, it does remind me some 90s scents, but that's not retro as such in my perception. It really shines compared to all the linear, megasweet, simple compositions which are bestsellers nowadays. I guess I'll just have to buy it! P.S. talking of comparisons with Chanel, it is fascinating how closely but differently those two women's lives unfolded, especially their respective attitude towards Nazi occupants in France (Gabrielle befriended them and yet people choose to omit this little "detail" and have come to idolise her, whereas Madame Grès famously and quite heroically refused to work for them, and yet she is all but forgotten...)

A *very* sweet floral. I don't get any of the patch, sandalwood, or cardamom, so I find it hard to classify this as an oriental. Be warned: That leather note, which seems so promising in the pyramid, does not show up until the dry down! The opening accord is caramelized sugar, canned pineapple in sugar syrup, thick vanilla syrup, with just a touch of magnolia. At this point, I thought M. Gres was a complete fail. The leather is needed to ground the scent, and the dryness of cardamom would be appreciated. The grapefruit would be a godsend! There is no heart that I detect- or the heart is identical to the opening. On the dry down, if you survive the diabetic coma, the leather appears...ever so faintly. I really want to like this, but it needs a far more powerful base to work for me. I'm going to see if I can't find a leather monotheme that I can pair with M. Gres. M. Gres is fun, light hearted, playful. But the base is insufficient, and without it, for me this scent is like a bright yellow helium balloon, bouncing around, hitting you in the face with that opening accord, and then just bouncing against the ceiling over and over and over again, with nothing to bring it back down. Long lasting, good sillage, but waaaay too sweet, and lacking balance. Similar to Scherrer's Immense, but not as well balanced, and therefore not as interesting.

Bought this as a blind buy cheapie. After trying it, decided it was nice, safe, but a little ho hum. Kind of generic. Patchouli, and a safe blend of floral notes with a dash of spice. Nice, but kind of ....common. Fast forward to now. I have my love perfumes (Habanita, Fendi, Les Perles de Lalique, Azuree), but keep them for special. As a teacher, I am very careful of what I wear to face up to 100 vocal young adults every day!!! Ran out of my last safe wear - Cherie, by Bill Blass.So, I chose another something safe. You guessed it, Madame Gres. I have been assaulted by co -workers about what gorgeous perfume was I wearing?? You smell amazing.. Two got online straight away to buy some. Firstly, it was gorgeous, and - they could smell it. So, great sillage. One 15 year old student walking into my classroom saying 'this room smells beautiful!'. BIG SCORE!! Tonight, I kept smelling something DIVINE. Thought maybe it was the remnants of some very expensive perfumes I tried today. But no.....Finally tracked it down to the coat I wore this week. The most exquisite, warm, honeyed floral perfume was wafting off my coat. I've changed my mind. This is a love. It is warm, vibrant, cosy and very, very elegant. Try it. It's a steal, and gives French expensive perfume a big run for the their money. All the best!

For me it was definatelly not love nor even like at first sniff. I tried it on, didn't like it and put it away. I may be a novice to this hobby but I already know how much our perception of a fragrance can change due to different elements of the weather, our body chemistry, our mood, etc. So after a few weeks I gave it a tentative try again, then again and again until I realised it has finally grown on me. It is an acquired taste but I realy do like it a lot. Madame Gres is sweet but not cloying, spicy but not irritating or musculin, feminine and even sexy without being too loud or in your face. On my skin it is in perfect balance, neither note stands out, and most importantly my husband aproves of it. The colder months suit Madame Gres the best, but I have worn it a few times this summer and it wasn't too much. I can picture myself wearing it for special occasions as it is undoubtedly an elegant fragrance, but I reach for it whenever I feel like it. The longevity is very good, the sillage is moderate, the fragrance is mature but not granny-ish. As it is not mainstream I feel unique wearing it, it is highly unlikely to meet another woman wearing it.

VOn my skin it's not Dior or Chanel. Classy, mature but sunny and playfull. At first sniff it seemed ligth, too light, but with time became stronger and lasting. The pineapple not fresh and fruity on me. With the spice it reminds me of burnt sugar...a little bit annoying. I wish it was a little bit fresher. Very good quality! Lasts all day long. After a few days of testing I can describe that I lack a little bit of freshness and I wish it was a tad more modern. But those ones, who loves the real classics like Chanel N5, or Arpege or like the sugary sweet warmness (like pruned fruits and not fresh) in a fragrance will like it. Low price, very good parfume. Now I can understand that someone finds it similar to Miss Dior. It has the same, little boozyness in the drydown, but over all they are not the same. It's more like Chanel N5 (in category), but it's warmer, and fruitier. Well, my friend found this powdery on me, even if I smelled sharp pruned pineapple and burnt sugar :-D Third edition; I have tested Miss Dior Le Parfum. Thex are almost identical!!! MD is deeper in amber.

I recently ordered a sample vial of this fragrance as I was very curious as to how it smelt given the comparison to Miss Dior. On initial spray I get the pineapple with the florals before it mellows down to the Base notes of patchouli and vanilla. On my skin it tends to turn very musky and and almost men's cologne like. However I have found on clothes it smells amazingly feminine and beautiful with a warm sweet vanilla vibe. I like that it's so reasonably priced but not a scent most would have. It smells different to a lot of fruity-florals out there. In my opinion, I wouldn't say that it is a replacement to Miss Dior but definitely in the same family. It has a soft, sweet, vintage feminine vibe that lingers and wouldn't offend when you entered a room. I am still deciding if I want to purchase a bottle.

This is a very feminine and well constructed perfume. For the price (I paid about 7 euros for a 100 ml bottle), it's a steal. I can feel the fruitiness. I don't know if it's pineapple I'm smelling or if it's some other fruit. The best part, in my opinion, is in the drydown, when it settles into a grown-up fruity-woody-vanilla scent. It has a sweet side, but it is "kept under control", it does bot punct you în the face. I think it is perfect for late autumn and winter. Maybe even at the beginning of spring, when it is still cool outside. Give it a try! I think Madame Gres is a likeable perfume.

This is nice. Smells like a vintage lipstick. I don't sense Chanel Mademoiselle, nor La Vie Est Belle. It's a bit grandmother-ly, but not that old lady smell that Chanel 5 has . I'd say it's more mature, I'm not sure I'd see this on a teenager or a 20 year old girl. Not saying they can't wear this, but I don't see a teenager reaching for this one firstly. On the top notes I sensed the leather, no pineapple though. All that's left now after few hours is a musky sweet-ish smell, but not overly sweet, nothing too crazy. Overall, it's a good blind buy, but I don't think I'd repurchase :)

Very lovely fragrance! Definitely in the vein of a Dior or Chanel; just not identical to Miss Dior or Allure. The pineapple and cardamom together read spicy liquored peaches, and the sandalwood & patchouli provide a solid base that lasts for hours. Perfect for transitioning weather, autumn or spring. Summer may make this too cloying and winter may mute the overall sweetness of the scent. Very worthwhile addition to a collection.

very good quality perfume.It really is similar to Miss Dior ,but of course Miss Dior is much better.This seems sweeter ,which bothers me a little ,actually much more sweeter.To sum up qood perfume for little money. p.S.It developed on me and oh my God!This is great!!!Great sillage and lasting power.Much better than Miss Dior!!!!Call me crazy but the drydown on my skin it is simillar to Addict Dior~!WOW! extremely similar!!!!!

I agree with the earlier comment about it being an inexpensive alternative to Miss Dior.

This smells expensive and elegant. Reminds me of Chanel, I just don't know which one. It's light and fresh and not heavy at all. I can't imagine this being offensive to anyone. It's a slight floral and the patchouli is not overwhelming. It stays close to the skin but it is long lasting. I love it. Edit: above I said it stays close to the skin, but I change that....it has big sillage.

The floral/fruit notes and vanilla are very well developed in this perfume. I see a lot of comparisons to Chanel , and I agree to a point. But , although Chanel perfumes are of course very well developed perfumes and smell great on most, they tend to turn to bug repellent on me. Not so with Gres. Great smell, great value for the money. This one is a definite keeper!
