I don’t have a big perfume collection and I’ve never really been into rose scents, but this one totally surprised me. When I first sprayed it, I got a mix of red wine, something green like tomato leaf, and a bit of spice. After a few minutes, the rose starts to come through, but it’s not that old-school floral rose I usually don’t like. It smells deeper, smoother, and a bit smoky or mysterious. As it dries down, it turns warm and cozy with patchouli, vanilla, and a soft musk that sticks around for hours. What really impressed me is how long it lasts and how it keeps changing the longer it’s on my skin. It feels like a different scent every few hours. I didn’t expect to like something rose-based this much, but this one definitely stands out and makes me want to explore more fragrances like it.

Nephilim by Grimoire Parfums is my top pick from the five fragrances released and has also become my personal favourite of everything I own. It stays on your skin all night while not being overwhelming. The rosy musk reminds me of a classy night out — elegant, intimate, and alluring. I wanted to try something different from the usual fresh/citrusy scents I’m comfortable with, and Nephilim delivered.

You can tell that it has been crafted with care and consideration. It smells incredibly high quality. The notes are blended beautifully, and yet there is enough nuance that smelling this scent is a multidimensional journey. This is art. On first spray, the pepper makes itself known but it is far from obnoxious. No sneezing here! I then experienced the red wine, which smelt quite bright and sweet (perhaps with the help of the lemon) and this is closely followed with the greenness from the angelica and tomato leaf. The tomato leaf is divine - such an underrated note in my opinion! As I'm enjoying the top notes, the middle notes begin to bloom, and I can also smell the base notes coming through. The story of this perfume is laid out right in front of me. The base notes are appropriately dirty and animalic, they aren't offensive at all. They provide an interesting background to the beautiful bouquet of flowers in the middle. The flowers are powdery and I am reminded of high end makeup/skincare or bathing products, maybe even scented candles. Typically this type of scent profile I'm not interested in, but the way they are blended with everything else going on is so unique it keeps it enjoyable. I have never smelt choya loban before, but I think it is lending an incense-y vibe which paired with the flowers feels very sacred. The base notes are earthy and grounding, reminscent of something old and beyond ancient. The vanilla is not prominent but seems to round everything out, I feel it removes the unpleasant "edge" one might experience with some of the more challenging notes. I applied this about 3 hours ago now, 5 sprays. I am in a soft but ever present bubble of the scent. Up close on my skin I smell the green and animalic notes most strongly, but the scent bubble radiates the flowers. A colleague of mine said I smell "like musk sticks" and "florally, musky" when I asked her to comment, which I think is a simple but concise way to describe Nephilim. This is very wearable.

While not for those chasing sugary florals or casual wear, it will deeply resonate with lovers of storytelling scents and mystical romanticism.
