1921

I love the way the dry citrus of the citron top note plays off the verbena from the heart in this fragrance. The effect is long lasting (for a hesperdic scent) citrus note that is reminiscent of the smell beneath a lemon tree on a hot day. As the citrus begins to settle, there is a delightful neroli note whose sweet, vaguely citrus floral scent gradually emerges from the lemony clouds of the opening and early mid notes. A nice oak moss accord marks the base. This is a great smelling, natural feeling, warm temperature unisex scent. Today is my second full wearing from the bottle I recently bought and my experience is at odds with folks who are getting very limited longevity. I am getting about 5 hours on a day that has gone from very hot and humid to pleasantly temperate this evening. I did not spray my clothes (I usually don't) but part of one spray caught my shirt and it remains noticeable 6+ hours after spraying. Projection is minimal, and is just a bit more than a skin scent from almost the first moments. So performance can be an issue with 1921. This fragrance is definitely office safe. I find it very pleasant, but I admit that I bought it because I love the presentation as well as the fragrance. Like all of Gucci's Alchemist's Garden line, 1921 comes in an elegantly retro bottle with a great atomizer. Even the box and the little silken bag that accompany the bottle are lovely and luxurious. So to sum up, 1921 is a delightful citrus-focused, lemony, scent with relatively poor performance but exceptional quality and presentation. If you love realistic, dry lemon notes, 1921 is worth sniffing. However, at the prices Gucci asks for the fragrances in this line, I suspect that, as others have noted, this scent is probably principally for die-hard Gucci fans like me. UPDATE 8/10/21: The last time I wore this fragrance, in high heat with low humidity, the longevity was stretched out to about 8 hours with moderate, gradually fading to minimal, projection. I have decided performance is pretty good here, particularly for a citrus dominant scent. I am definitely happy I bought a bottle of 1921.

This is a beautiful citrus floral that is in the same vein as 4711 but better. And it should be better for the price of $350 USD. It separates from the others with a brilliant citrus limone cedrato (giant lemon) which is so tart and fizzy it literally makes my mouth water, a high quality natural neroli, and an oakmoss accord. Natural neroli is expensive and takes literally 2000 pounds of flowers to create 2 pounds of oil. Here's the deal, if you want the best (my opinion) version of the 4711/Neroli Portofino DNA and money is no object, I'd get a bottle of Chanel Les Exclusifs Eau De Cologne. Longevity sucks, but it is the Ferrari of this DNA. I rank 1921 below Chanel EDC. If you want to spend less but still get niche quality, get a bottle of Histories De Parfums 1.6 or Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Parfum (if you want performance) on gray or secondary market. If you want the best performing version of this DNA, get Bond No 9 Eau De New York, but modern bond is a little screetchy on the musk, vintage is better. Overall an excellent fragrance if you can find it heavily discounted. However, at $350, there are lower cost niche options.This is not super unique but the quality is there, and would probably only appeal to someone that wants the beautiful bottle for shelf art. I'd pull the trigger for around $100-120 because I love tart effervescent citrus, green mossy vibe and high quality neroli. Scent 9.5/10 Performance 2/10 P. S. The atomizers are fantastic, but get can jammed up and break. Italian quality control at it's finest 😂

I’ve been wearing this fragrance repeatedly over the past few weeks, and I find it deeply enjoyable. This smells high quality and very well blended. When I saw the citron note listed in the opening I thought it would be a blast of very tart citrus, but it's not. The citron is light and this fragrance smells mostly of neroli, somewhat soapy. I believe the oakmoss makes it more unisex, giving it a bit of a more masculine feel. It's really smooth, but very light wearing after the first hour. Hardly projects at all and is a skin scent almost instantly. Might last 4 hours tops. Leans slightly masculine, but can be worn by pretty much anyone, any age. The scent profile isn't very unique, but this is very well done. A great inoffensive work/office fragrance. The stunning presentation is probably the deciding factor that leads me to buy a bottle.

Gucci 1921 is a citrus, aromatic and floral fragrance. Its opening is citrus and herbal, very pleasant, the list indicates that it is citron, but to me it seemed more like bergamot accompanied by lemon verbena and neroli. In these first minutes it reminded me a little of Zegna's Acqua di Bergamotto or Italian Bergamot fragrances. Once it reaches its dry phase, it remains herbal and adds a musky and slightly woody accord, without further changes. Gucci 1921 is a fragrance for daytime use due to its citrus and fresh notes, the aroma is pleasant, for casual use or office work. Its longevity was approximately 6 to 7 hours with a low sillage, it only projects well for the first 20 minutes, but then it stays close to the skin. I liked the scent of this fragrance, but it is a little expensive and has a low performance, plus there are other fragrances with which you can get that citrus and fresh feeling.

I would, overall, describe 1921 as fine. It opens up very zesty, citrusy, and soapy, and quickly dries down into a pretty typical chypre. It has the expected shorter lifespan of a citrus fragrance. Good quality, and I'm fine owning it as I don't have another similar one, but if your nose has been around, this is a more classical type of scent you will probably find familiar and not be blown away by. But, if that is the kind of thing you love, this one will not disappoint - there is nothing newfangled, offensive, or complicated here and there is nothing to ding on the execution.

Love this scent -- feels like a lovely modern take on 4711 however I will say for this price, the staying power is minimal. I know these are not notes meant to be beast mode to put on 10 sprays of this and not smell it 3 hours later was a little disappointing.

A strong, masculine citrus, heavy on the verbena and neroli. I wear this when I want to feel like a successful businessman. It’s my can-do scent. It’s, admittedly, a little generic.

Daring, outgoing, authentic lemony goodness. More collectible than wearable. This whole LV-looking series from Gucci is killing it.

As someone said downstairs in this comment section, I feel like this piece is more for collectors or Gucci fans. I am not. I have tried it on and I would definitely not spend the niche money for something that in my view, is a simple neroli masculine scent. I would love to spend the money on one of these bottles if the scent strikes me such as « voice of the snake » or even « eye of the tiger ». They are beautiful and collector! However, the scent of 2021 don’t do the job enough for me. But Gucci fans, its for you! :)

I would say that if you are someone who is looking for something to wow your nose, this is not the fragrance for you. This is a traditional Eau Sauvage-esque fragrance of very high quality, and that's about it. I own it and love it, but is it worth $330 to someone who does not care about the fact that it was made to celebrate Gucci's 100th anniversary? Definitely not. This fragrance is the definition of something that is made for collectors. The packaging is absolutely top notch with incredible artistry and materials, the scent is high quality and has that dignified, understated, classic businessman vibe, and the fragrance has the best sprayer I have ever come across. If you are someone who believes that "all that matters is the juice," this fragrance is the exact opposite of what you are looking for. This is something I will rarely use because it is more of a collection piece than anything else. Should I throw a $10 million 1965 Ferrari convertible around a racetrack just because it is a slightly enjoyable car to drive in 2021? No. It is not groundbreaking in any way in 2021 and it is slow and boring by modern standards, so it just stays in my garage as a beautiful piece of rare art to show off. If you want a modern marvel that will grab attention and perform well for a good price, buy a 2021 Corvette and Dior Sauvage. If you want a collectible piece of art that has timeless style and class, buy a 1965 Ferrari convertible and Gucci 1921.

If you enjoy very simple blends of clean citrus fragrances and want a unisex one with a beautiful bottle to make you feel special, I can see you enjoying this one. Office, school, church, day-time friendly. Maybe on a first date on a lunch to not overpower your meal, but not for being remembered. It's a very clean, sweet orange flower scent. I bet it would layer and compliment most others in The Alchemist's Garden collection, but do we have the budget for that? The bottle is to die for!! The bottle is so so beautiful as is most in this collection, but the scent is VERY generic. Most people would probably select a different fragrance from The Alchemist's Garden for that price and hardly anyone is going to want to buy some generic citrus scent to layer with for $384. I don't quite understand why such a generic scent would be selected as an anniversary release, either. Choose something else unless you want it for the bottle - try to get it on discount. It is absolutely not worth that price.

I would mostly disagree that this is a niche copy of 4711 simply because of the citrus notes. This is a very nice green smelling citrus that has a faint but beautiful oakmoss note in the base. The oakmoss just gives a nice contrast while playing in the distant background. I’d honestly compare it’s styling rather then smell to bergamot 22. This is very smooth not juicy or sharp and has a soapy feel this is a great morning scent. IT’s performance is not great but it’s a nice wear and also great for layering. If you like bergamot 22 Nishane colonise or profumum Roma orangea you’ll likely enjoy this one. Not worth full retail due to performance but on scent alone it’s up there with the best.

Really nice if slightly astringent. It smells a lot like classic citrus green eau de colognes but with enough tuberose to make it unisex leaning feminine. I myself would have no issue at all wearing this. This is like a slightly better blended Fougere Emeraud by Les Indemodables—the tuberose comes through in both perfumes very nicely and smells very fresh in both. Personally I’d keep the LI because it’s better price to value proposition but I do like this Gucci despite the exorbitant price tag.

Slightly different take on a classic but different enough from the likes of 4711 or TF NP. This isnt zingy or crisp like 4711 or smooth/ambery like NP but yea - that mossy quality gives it a different character which is unique in a way. This has the same lasting power as 4711 though which at sooo much more $, its not a compelling purchase for me even though it does smell nice.

Very fresh, clean, watery citrus white floral fragrance with aquatic accents. This is a smile-planter.
