A Chant for the Nymph

I agree with Marialena888 below--I haven't smelled the Gucci OG, although I had samples of Gorgeous Gardenia and was less than impressed, although I didn't dislike it--and so everything I am saying about this fragrance applies to the Maison Alhambra impression, in its equally beautiful bottle with its luxe trappings and its bald appropriation of the brand name. To my nose, The Chant smells like a creamier, yellow-floral take on Elizabeth Taylor Gardenia, which will sound like a slight unless you read my rave review of it. I think Gardenia is my all-time favorite bargain white-floral soliflore (not really a soliflore so much as a slightly abstracted impression of the gardenia). At any rate, I get the holy yellow-flower trifecta with The Chant, which is to say frangipani, ylang-ylang, and tiare (orange blossom might have worked too), and I get it in sufficient doses that I simply can't imagine needing the overpriced original of this, even though I love the pretentiousness of its Mallarméan name. The Chant might be a streamlined version, for all I know, but it doesn't seem like a reduction. You get what you're promised with this bold and boisterous island queen. On another note, please, please, please fix it so that the horrible pop-up mattress ads stop. Believe me when I say that it is counterproductive as a marketing tactic. The interruptions every 15 seconds just make me want to stop reading and posting reviews or otherwise interacting with this site. I can say with the utmost confidence that I am never ever ever ever ever ever ever going to buy one of those mattresses. I would sleep on a bag of rocks out of spite before I would reward that sales approach.

I love this! I just wish so much that it wasn't quite so expensive... To my nose this is just a perfect creamy frangipani with a hint of vanilla. A couple reviewers below mentioned that it smelled like a creamy, oil like concoction and I 100% agree. This is like the best oily tropical flower vacation in a bottle. I wish this lasted a bit longer on my skin... It really fades away after about 3/4 hours. That being said, I did use a dabber sample; I wonder if it might last longer being sprayed? Going off of memory, comparisons to other fragrances: Soleil Blanc: Not so similar to my nose - this one doesn't have any of the sweet pistachio/coconut accords. Soleil Blanc is more edible and sweet and less floral to me. Guerlain Terracotta: Definitely shares a similar vibe but this one is missing the coconut and jasmine in Terracotta. Terracotta's florals read very sweet jasmine on my skin. I love love love Terracotta too and i'm guess if you love one, you'd love the other. Love Tuberose: Another of my all time favorites and definitely, again, similar creamy-sweet-floral vibe. This one has no tuberose and, on me, has less vanilla sweetness and more tropical flower sweetness (if that makes sense). Beige: It's been ages since I've smelled it.... but I think I remember Beige being less tropical and more of a refined, easy going, every day floral. It's just more Chanel :) Lastly, I wonder if anyone can compare this to Chantecaille's Frangipane? I haven't smelled in about 12 years... And, for that matter, i cant find it to purchase online anymore...

This is a really lovely perfume by Gucci! It smells very summery, sweet, floral and tropical. I could imagine a beautiful Hawaiian Hula dancer with long and shiny black hair, a grass skirt and a tiare and frangipani lei around her neck. The ylang ylang is quite noticeable too and it lends an indolic and banana-sweet loveliness to the composition. Finally, I'm treated to a warm embrace of sensual vanilla in the dry-down. I wouldn't call this a photorealistic interpretation of any of the flowers herein, but I'd definitely say I can smell them and this is only slightly synthetic smelling. The frangipani is probably the least realistic of the notes, the ylang ylang and tiare being much more realistic in this one. Like an ylang ylang and tiare monoï oil, which is equal parts white and yellow floral. I got moderate sillage and an 8 and a half hour wear from A Chant to the Nymph, which is quite good for a Gucci fragrance. I could imagine this being worn during the day in either spring or summer to more casual events or when you want to feel like it's summertime. I'd call this an incredibly feminine fragrance as well and the beautiful pink bottle this is housed in hints at that. Altogether, I'd give A Chant for the Nymph a 8.3/10. I'd definitely reccomend this one, which is not something I'd say about most Gucci fragrances.

What a pretty name for a fragrance, and such beautiful packaging to go with it! I only bought the $20 sample, but even that comes in a lovely white linen-look case with gold engraving. This definitely smells like summer. It has some suntan lotion vibes, and I also get the unmistakable hint of swimming pool smell, though it’s pleasant and not overwhelming. The previous reviewer compared Chant for the Nymph to Terracotta, and I definitely see that similarity. However, Terracotta had some warm, doughy note that I personally found off-putting, and Nymph doesn’t have that note. To me, Nymph is the most similar to the discontinued Aqua Allegoria Lys Soleia (which also gets compared to Terracotta). I tried Nymph on my left arm at the same time as Lys Soleia on my right arm, and they were about 90% similar to my nose. They’re both sweet and summery in the same way. Lys Soleia was ever so slightly fresher, but I think most people would fail a blind smell test if they were trying to tell them apart.

yea this is everything i hoped chanel beige would be, and not as gaudy as songes . wears almost like a balm, not the loudest but it stays around . much more natural smelling than most other tropicals . this makes me think of that rainforest plant that squeezes out soap lol . the perfect option if you like tropicals/exotics but dont always need a sunscreen salty or fruity accord in the mix . i pick out tiarè most prominently in dry down, plumeria and ylang early on when spraying . its not effortless id say, like chanel - beige is . i feel like i have to be doing nothing with my day to wear it, or brunch and shopping with friends . its almost too luxurious, if such a thing existed . edit: very complimented, even when i think its well faded . my friend said i smell like Mykonos lol

I was thinking about to buy it or not for 3 years. :D And finally I have found it for reasonable price (200 Euros) and I have to say, it is the best blindbuy ever!!! Beautifule frangipani- tiare-ylang goddess, much better then Encagée (wich I have too but it's very syrupy and havier for me) and better than Kilian's Sunkissed Goddes (it is too gentle and light). So this is the perfect perfume for me in this ballpark. A have to test the longevity and the sillagae, but the scent itself is stunning. I live near to a big City in a little Willage and it's perfect for my spring and summer everyday use. EDIT: The longevity on my skin is 8 hours. The sillage: in the first 3 hours strong then start faded...after the 5. hours is skin scent. Its very good for me from a summer scent.

What a gorgeous scent in a gorgeous bottle. Honestly, I’m not into pink but this bottle is literally beautiful. From the bottle, a bit exotic and oily scent was strong (I guess it’s frangipani) but in some time after I sprayed it on my wrist, ylang-ylang and tropical flowers started to head up. It smells a little bit plasticky, but all those tropical/ exotic flower fragrances are covered by creamy vanilla, which makes this scent balanced and pretty. It’s quite a simple and straightforward scent. It does not really change as the time goes by but I don’t mind. The name of this perfume is also beautiful, and matches the fragrance perfectly. Wearing this makes me feel like I’m in a mythical, tropical forest with yellow flowers.

If you’re new to the yellow tropical floral notes just like me you’ll find this to be (not your typical floral scent) If there is anything on earth called a ( flower milkshake) it would smell like this . It’s a floral , creamy , milky, herby , warm yet summery. It’s luxurious but not meant to be treasured for only special occasions. I can imagine myself wearing this first thing in the morning and last thing before I go to bed. I would like to try the other suggested alternatives mentioned in the reviews like terracotta and narciso, but the moment I tried a chant for the nymph I couldn’t keep it off my mind. I only wished it doesn’t cost a fortune.

A unique and refined floral, I find myself gravitating towards this scent when I’m in direct sunlight, the sun makes the heavenly flowers sing on my skin and it’s addictive 🤍 Intense tiare and frangipani with a light ylang, and a faint vanilla in the background that brings out the creaminess of the florals, GORGEOUS 🤍 I fall in love with this scent every time I wear it and I don’t think I can be without it, it brings me so much joy, it is sunshine in a bottle! Yes it doesn’t stay on for long but I am more than happy to overspray and keep spraying it on and immersing myself in this absolute olfactory delight again and again 😇

I have loved this scent since I first smelled at Oberpollinger. It’s beautiful! A perfect simple tropical floral scent that smells real and isn’t overly complex. To me it’s just not quite worth the price for full bottle. As much as i want that gorgeous bottle!! I have a sample size vial and enjoy it so so much. I will buy more decants in the future when I run out. I get the clean makeup powder note after dry down. It’s really nice. Almost borders on laundry smell though, but not quite... it’s a reall beautiful scent in a gorgeous bottle!

It was a blind-buy for me. I got a headache within first 10 minutes of wearing it. I'm not saying the fragrance is bad; it's actually very well composed, comforting and people seem to like it, but there is that one floral note that makes me sick in an instant, and I can't help it. Don't think the fragrance has beachy/sunny vibes of e.g., Sol de Janeiro, Tom Ford's Soleil Blanc or Bvlgari Omnia Paraiba - it doesn't. It is darker, creamier, more balanced, and to my nose it's more of a moss garden than sandy beach scent.

So beautiful! Tropical but without that dreaded coconut-y feel and I appreciate that so much! It smells soft and gentle like a breeze that carries sunshine and tropical blooms. Just wonderful!! This is, in my opinion, masterfully blended and look at who the nose behind this beauty is: Alberto Morillas! No wonder I love it so much!! Definitely a beloved fragrance, personally. I will cherish this beauty for a long time! Plus, that bottle is stunningly gorgeous ✨🌴✨

So beautiful BUT on my skin you need to let it sit at least 10 minutes before its beauty is revealed. First spritz is a bit of an overwhelming mess and then suddenly each individual note appears and SHINES!! Creamy, strong frangipani scent similar but less synthetic than Guerlain Terracotta. Beautifully tropical and the perfect holiday scent. Very sexy.

It's the early 90's and you're still sandy and sweaty from a beach trip with your family. This is the smell of the Herbal Essences suds in your dirty hair. Not terrible but not really a scent memory I long to revisit. Edit: I stand by all the above except that apparently I DO want to revisit it. I am HERE for the dirty-beach-hair ylang dry down.

Tropical scent at its best 🌴🌺 Gorgeous blend of vanilla with the tropical flowers in an exquisite bottle with decent longevity ( for Gucci ) and moderate sillage. I can still smell whiffs of it after an 8 hour wear. It radiates serenity when you need a peace of mind. One of the best blind buys for me in a long time❤️

The Chant is gorgeous. A very unique modern iteration of a classic scent. La Dompteuse smells very different and leaves dark stains. The closest to the Chant are: Narciso Ambree and Intense Tiare. Terracotta is also similar but much warmer and smells more dated.

The ylang-ylang is strong on this one. I love it because it reminds me of my childhood when I used to pick ylang-ylang flowers from our backyard. Comforting to wear before going to sleep. The only problem is it is quite expensive.

This does open strong, as others have said, but it quickly softens to a lovely powdery scent (and I don't like powdery scents). I have a 30 ml and would consider the larger bottle, but it's way too expensive for what this is.

One of my favourite perfumes! Smells like the Lana Del Rey - Salvatore song. Out of all the Gucci’s Alchemist’s Garden collection, this one is the sweetest one in my opinion. Such a feminine scent out of a fairytale!

I got it because it smells like one thing I always smelled in my childhood. Although it is so expensive, its pure gorgeous smell makes me feel sweet all day! I love it but it would be better if it has more potential.

One of the best full-bloom gardenia scents I have found- totally photorealistic, no bubblegum, piss, or added fruits- just creamy, sun-baked gardenia in the peak summer heat. Wish this wasn’t a million dollars.

Opens with frangipani so strong it smells like black tea (in a good way). Beautiful summery Southeast Asian vibe, like the scent when you just came out of a Balinese spa.

This is lovely. It's a very soft floral. Very feminine. This reminds me of a garden of flowers in the morning. Very fresh and delicate.

To start off, I want to say I was inspired to test this fragrance because, not only have I been curious about this line since it was announced, but I am a HUGE fan of Hwang Hyunjin and he once showed off his bottle of ACFTN and said he had to purchase it as soon as he smelled it. A pretty big endorsement for something he wasn't paid to promote. I finally decided, since I have plans to visit Korea in the summer next year, I need to figure out which scent to bring, so this immediately came to mind and I needed to test it before shelling out the insane price tag. At first whiff of the nozzle, I have to say, though it smelled how every review I'd seen had described it, I was still a bit surprised. This one, while beautiful, is not as unique as something I'd expect at this price point. This is a balmy, sweet fragrance of yellow florals heating up in the summer sun. It absolutely screams summertime, but not in that day-at-the-beach sort of way, though it definitely does have a suntan lotion element to it. This is not sporty or aquatic at all. I have heard some people say it smells like there's coconut in here, and though I definitely don't get coconut at all, the creaminess of the vanilla in the base makes this a very, almost syrupy, sweet scent and I can understand why they're confusing it for coconut. It's thick and rich, but not quite sticky. The star of the show really is that frangipani and the way it all heats up on the skin. For me, the scent really didn't have an effect for me until I tried it on and let it sit for a couple minutes. Working with my chemistry, it took on this almost lipsticky quality that was beautiful and really made ACFTN start to smell expensive. I sprayed it on around noon and it carried up until about 8 pm for me, so I definitely don't think it didn't last a good while, but that's just on my skin and personally, I don't need my perfume to last for 3 days to make me happy. Now let's address the elephant in the room: the price point. I love Gucci as a fashion house, but I'll definitely admit, the price point is absolutely ridiculous. While I was at the counter, I did smell a few different offers from the line and I have to say, for almost $400, I was expecting a LOT more. I don't think any seasoned perfumehead will be overly impressed with this line. The fragrances are lovely and some are very strong, but they are all a bit too simple and reminded me of other fragrances I either own, have owned, or have smelled. I truly didn't find anything overly unique or groundbreaking. If this doesn't bother you and you just want something both beautiful and of quality, then I think you will appreciate this line for what it is, but if you are looking for something individualistic or a good bang for your buck, then I definitely would look into something either a little more niche or a designer fragrance with less streamlined notes and at a fourth of the cost. Now for me, I think I still intend to invest in this one. It's currently winter and I don't think I am too put off by the price point that I wouldn't be willing to purchase this for a beautiful summer scent. Though it is not too unique, it worked wonders with my body chemistry and is likely something you won't be smelling on too many people. It can definitely work as an everyday fragrance for warmer climates. I do appreciate the bottle, I appreciate the love, care, and inspiration that went into this line, but I do wish at least the 5 different options I sampled were a bit more daring. I am going to opt not to rate this one as I normally would, as while I do like this fragrance and would like to wear more of it, I'm not able to say it's my favorite fragrance of all time or that it's worth the price I'm willing to pay for it. But to each nose, their own, and if this one drives you wild, then nothing I've said here matters. All I can say is, when I am able to order my first bottle, I know we'll be very happy, together.

I have a fantastic clone of it by Maison AlHambra called ‘The Chant’, even the bottles look similar. It’s overpowering at first (pure loud FRANGIPANI), but after it settles, it smells like an exclusive bouquet of creamy, buttery tropical flowers, frangpani, ylang and tiare, with abit of warmth and sweetness from (non-gourmand) vanilla...the tiare and vanilla combination may come off abit coconutty, like freshly shredded coconut. I also detect an unlisted turmeric root or curcumin note in the background, adding a mild bitter-sweet-spiciness. It’s a STRONG scent and can be headache inducing (it does soften considerably after about an hour), do not overspray, it lingers almost the entire day too, especially when sprayed on fabric. I don’t think it smells particularly beachy, but it does bring to mind beautiful island girls wearing leis. It smells like something that Guerlain and Lush would collab and release, if you can imagine that, naturalistic Lush-style raw floral scent, but with that powdery Guerlain-esque feel in the drydown. Very feminine, sensual and mature. Not worth the Gucci money for me...if you really like this scent but can’t afford it, get the clone, it’s disgustingly fabulous for the price. I do like tropical florals, and this is a very straightforward, intensive, and luxurious one, no fruits, no woods, no citrus, just straight up flowers with a tiny pinch of vanilla and spice. If you enjoy Guerlain’s Terracotta, Lush’s Lust or Sikkim Girls, you will most likely enjoy this (and it’s clone) too.

This is a very upgraded/classic version of a summer perfume. The frangipani is far away from overpowering, is super creamy. The imagery that comes to mind is a fairytale princess during summer time, hanging out by a lake with her animal friends, decorating her hair with the lotus flowers 🌸 from the lake. If you watched the 1941 version of Disney’s Fantasia, I am sure you remember the beautiful centaur girls. Now imagine them going on a beach holiday and the little angels spray their hair and ponytails before they expend a starry night at the beach with their boyfriends. This would be their perfume. This is really expensive (for me that is) so is not on my buying list. But if I ever received a bottle I would gladly wear it. This is not for everyday. This is an: I feel beautiful 😻

I agree with other reviews that this fragrance is more on the subtle side. Upon the first spray, you get a wonderfully creamy frangipani note, that then settles down to a warm skin-like scent, that smells like you've just spent the sunny afternoon laying in a field of tropical flowers, and slathering yourself in sunscreen. It's also a simple, linear fragrance, that sadly only lasts for an hour or so. While the scent is genuinely nice, this is extremely overpriced. Right now, I can't find a bottle anywhere for less than $299. Honestly, I don't even think I'd buy this for $50. The scent is pleasant enough, but it isn't anything special, in my opinion, and the performance of the fragrance is sadly lacking.

This Gucci creation is such a beautiful tropical warm ever so slightly powdery holiday scent. I love frangipani, Ylang Ylang, Tiare flower and vanilla so this was absolutely a no brainer blind buy for me and I’m very happy!! It is very similar to Aerin Hibiscus Palm without the spicy ginger or lotus notes thatI struggled with in that fragrance. ACFTN is smoother and more luxurious as well, the luxury aspect may just be from that gorgeous bottle though! This is my new go to summer holiday/staycation scent. The only downside is that the staying power is extremely lacking for the high price tag but I love being in the scent bubble while it lasts.

This is an interesting fragrance. Definitely powdery. I catch some hints of licorice but it doesn't seem to be listed as a note. The vanilla and ylang-ylang are the main notes I'm picking up on. Very warm and creamy. I feel like this would be nice to wear after a hot bath. It's not an adventurous scent, but rather homely and safe I wouldn't say it smells grandma-like, but it doesn't read as youthful either so don't expect Viva La Juicy vibes! If this fragrance wasn't labeled as Gucci then I would think it belonged to Guerlain or Cacharel because it has that soft vintage quality to it. Definitely nymph-like I like it

I am in between in love and like with this perfume. The bottle is gorgeous. For me, this is a luxurious and comforting slightly powdery interpretation of 60's doll head meets Tipanie Monoi Oil meets a subtle grape-y bubblegum. It smells like modern take of a wealthy jet set woman in the 1960's all dolled up for vacation somewhere tropical--white eyeliner rimmed waterline, mascara on the lower eye lashes, pale pink lipstick, Monoi Oil on the skin and the hair volumized big. This isn't the local beauty of tropical places like Coqui Coqui Fleur Des Ilhes but a very beautiful visitor.

@cassiopeia1957 You must have had cold or blocked nose when you tried the Alhambra dupe "The Chant". "Green" is not a word you can use for this perfume. I have it and it's sweet vanilla, tropical flowers and lotion like well blended beauty. If one doesn't want to spend much but have a great quality dupe, I say go for it, won't regret it! I always find the best dupe along with the original and I don't have to worry how much I spray everyday at work.

I got a sample of this, alongside guerlain’s Terracotta and Narciso ambree. I like this one a lot, but out of the 3 creamy tropical floral scents, A Chant has the weakest performance. Really beautiful while it lasts, though. The frangipani and tiare mainly come through for me. It’s a cooler scent than Terracotta, and I might like it more if it could just last on my skin. As beautiful as it is, it’s not worth it for the price imo

I truly do like this, but it does remind me STRONGLY of 1980s Mr Bubble Bubble Bath. I specifically say 1980s only because I haven't smelled it since then, and don't know if the scent has changed. Sweet floral, with soapy notes. If I didn't associate it so strongly with Mr Bubble, I would probably say it's a waxy, sweet and heady floral.Lots of tiare flower for me, with a solid amount of ylang ylang.

An elevated take on Terracotta - creamy, sweet (but not sugary), and very tropical scent. Warm and inviting with uplifting soliflore elements. I see the comparison to La Dompteuse Encagée, but that one is sneezier with no sweetness and a touch darker. Only lasts around 4 hrs, which, for the price, is very disappointing. If it lasted longer, I'd definitely recommend purchasing for the warmer months.

I absolutely love this perfume. It smells like a flower garden. I imagine this is what fairies smell like LOL it’s creamy, not too loud, it’s just beautiful. I wouldn’t say it’s an everyday perfume. I agree with another reviewer you wear it when you feel beautiful 🥰🌸🌼💖

A lovely yellow tropical floral with bubblegum, slight indole & vanillic undertones. Perfect for a trip to Bali or when you want a tropical escape from life’s everyday mundaneness. Performance could be better but it smells good. Soft and sweet. I get compliments on it.

Sikkim girls by lush is the maiden, Chant for the Nymph is the mother, mahora by guerlain is the crone. This is more sunscreeny and less incense-y than Sikkim girls and mahora though. I like this but I prefer the other two I mentioned

Very feminine floral for a woman. Very elegant and beautiful. This would be perfect for a bride in her morning wedding day when the sun hits her skin as she recites the vows.

Beautiful presentation with a lovely tropical floral scent, similar to others. Very good performance. I like everything except for the price.

This is a pretty, feminine perfume but way too pricey for something that projects so little after an hour.

I was lucky enough to test this one out at the local Gucci boutique today. Upon first spray, you are greeted with a bouquet of photorealistic tropical flowers: thick, oily, sweet and heady. The overall perfume, however, does not smell especially tropical at all. It lacks the coconut, sandy amber, or sunscreen notes that usually accompany such flowers as plumeria, Ylang, and tiare. Presenting these flowers in this botanical, under embellished way is quite unique and unexpected. I placed the test ribbon down for a minute to test the other perfumes in the Alchemist Garden Collection. When I returned to it, my nose was graced with another photorealistic scent: blue cheese. Yes, a high quality blue cheese I'm certain (this is Gucci), alongside the now muted tropical florals. I instantly knew the culprit: an unlisted osmanthus note. I own a small sample of the natural absolute at home. At first sniff, it is quite pleasant, displaying fruity-floral facets reminiscent of apricots, honey and white flowers. As the absolute dries, however, it develops fungal, buttery, laconic nuances absolutely characteristic of the aforementioned cheese. That is the case here, and I wouldn't be surprised if Gucci is using an all natural osmanthus absolute, as this material is not exorbitantly expensive. Unfortunately, I never made it to the perfume's dry down, as my nose couldn't tolerate this note longer. If Gucci's intent was to capture the most natural, three dimensional, representation of these flowers without any cliche synthetic ingredients to distract: they have succeeded in leaps and bounds. This is perhaps the only perfume I've encountered, however, that leans too natural. I believe a synthetic osmanthus accord might have worked better, or perhaps none at all. While blue cheese is absolutely delicious and pairs wonderfully with honey and apricots, it is not something that I especially want to smell like.

Blind bought for the frangipani and the exquisite bottle. Wasn’t entirely thrilled... It’s well-blended, yes. But it gives me a headache. It’s quite a powdery floral, and quite strong, especially that first blast. I get zero tropical vibes. It does eventually calm down, but it’s just lacking wow factor for me (or maybe it just doesn’t suit my personality and taste??). I wish I could feel the same as all the other reviewers here who love it... I mean it does cost like a million dollars for a Gucci perfume, so at this point I’m trying to force myself to like it. This is better suited for a girly-girl... a soft, delicate lady.

I thought this would be right up my street as I love frangipani and tiara flower, but I find the ylang ylang is overpowering in this scent. If this had been swapped out for coconut im sure it would be divine. The ylang ylang makes it smell a bit plastic and overpowering at first. This is a perfume that you really need to let settle for a good few minutes. Once this dries down, it actually has a beautiful tropical flower scent. It smells very much like Hea Poi monoi oil to me. I still feel this is way overpriced for what it is. It’s a nice/pretty perfume, there is a uniqueness about it, but nothing special.

A subtle creamy yellow floral fragrance. Stays fairly linear but its well composed and very pretty, would be nice for layering in the spring or summer. Doesn't last at all neither does it project much. Maybe if you spray half the bottle you'll get whiffs of it for an hour. I can see the similarity with terracotta but with less of a presence. Layers nicely with Soleil blanc or any nice warm skin scent (l'ambre de merveilles hermes or jpg classique). Pretty bottle and name but overall unimpressive on its own.

Tropical, like a stick of Zebra Fruit Stripe bubblegum. This stuff starts out as a semi-sexy light floral bouquet and quickly deteriorates into eau de extracts. There's every chemical fruit coloring gummy bear enhancement at work here. Borderline gnarly. Smells like modern Amouge. Yeah it can smell nice on a beautiful woman but so can anything. If you're wearing this stuff, keep your distance...unless you're Elizabeth Hurley.
