Gucci Nobile

GUCCI NOBILE, 1988 Walking through an English flower garden; ferns all around. The rain has just cleared and the soil very moist. I take a deep breath, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. A very long, profound, deep breath. When I spray Gucci Nobile, I am reminded of how aromatic fougere should be. I inhale lavender with its herbal medicinal facets, a lovely confectionary bergamot that imparts that foody-cremy take to the lavender. All is counterbalanced by a hint of rosemary and refreshed by a lovely tarragon (Les Indemodables are matsrs in using this herb). This opening paves the way to a floral heart: a garden surronded by tons of green notes with that amazing fir I would love to smell much more in today perfumes; it imparts that balsmaic quality, a screen on which the flowers grow luxuriant. A rosy geranium is ste start of the show along with a spicy in your face carnation accord that is smooth out by a hint of jasmine. The drydown is characterized by a hearthy vetiver, a smooth tonka, and engulfs you in a pre-regulation stunning oakmoss. To be a fragrance from the '80s, this is not as bold as others. Many fragcoms think its direct competitor was Drakkar Noir, but the latter is more about the patchouli and for me overall less interesting. It is difficult to pinpoint what circumstances made this not a hit in its time. Is it a vengeance that today the price for a bottle has skyrocketed? I still have this rare cologne after it was discontinued many years ago. How was I able to obtain it for free? Well my dad is not a big fan of any cologne but yet he received Nobile as a gift from a relative! He rarely wore it so as a kid I would sneak into my parents room and spray a few dashes on me and I would be off to middle school smelling like an old school pimp! Later my mom would whip my ass for wearing my dads cologne saying I was to young to wear that stuff...and she was right haha! I finally took the bottle with me when I started college. My impression as I am typing up this review and sniffing Gucci Nobile at the same time...I smell a citrus blend with a touch of herbs laid out on a wooden plate. Its nice its not offensive and yet it stands out quite strong inside a room. Compliments are a welcome addition as you make your way from one lady to another! Oh yea this reeks old school pimp haha! Its elegant and if it was still available today at a department store it would still hold its ground against other popular fragrances. I rarely wear it because I like to brag that I own half a bottle and even though its not the best... it still brings back memories of a time when it meant the world to me. If you happen to come across Gucci Nobile buy it and go make yourself some new memories with it. 8 out of 10

This is the quintessential aromatic fougère. It is my favorite fragrance in this perfume category. It is crisp and clean without being too soapy. Bergamot can make a fragrance feel dated if it is too strong, but it is wonderfully blended here. Whereas I just couldn't take Alain Delon ADPlus for its overbearing quantity of bergamot, in Nobile it is wisely balanced. Sandalwood is there but muted. And the lavender... If you love lavender attenuated just right for masculine appeal, you will certainly enjoy this. Yes, it was once very popular and sold quite well. Yes, GUCCI made a huge mistake and discontinued it. Frankly, I do not understand what plausible rationale was used if any. Yes, it has been copied and some have come extremely close (Alexander da Costa), but never quite complete or superior. Yes, you can find it but unfortunately it is very expensive now. No, it is NOT overrated. I recommend sampling this and giving it plenty of time. Gucci Nobile may appear a bit "familiar" at first, and perhaps not even exceptional, but wear it for a while... and then you'll see. There is something very special here. Is it worth the going prices? That's all relative. If you are adept at hunting, you will find deals. Personally, I think it is worth $2/1ml. Fragrance: 9.5, Longevity: 7.5, Value: 8.5

I had Gucci Nobile as a gift from a good friend on Fragrantica and what a surprise! It's rapidly becoming one of my favourite non-powerhouse fragrances from the past together with Insensè, Givenchy's Vetiver and Le Troisieme Homme. AMAZING! Gucci Nobile is a great alternative to the vulgar ostentation of opulence and to the "straight in the face" attitude of pretty popular and pretentious niche brands I won't name here. In this world dominated by "Greed" and ignorance, GN is the perfect fragrance for the laidback guy who doesn't need to shout out loud his charisma and elegance. He's self confident, cultured, mannered but not affected, generous, traditionalist but not a pharisee, aknowledged, discreet...and noble. A CLASSIC fougère with herbaceous notes, tobacco, citruses and a slight touch of lavander that's incredibly delightful. Gucci Nobile surely deserves a place in the "classic fragrances olympus" . Sadly discontinued. I guess Frida Giannini won't hear us... Absolutely recommended! Rating: 9.5/10

I remember when Noble selling in most retailers, now it's so overpriced, it's ridiculous. When I spray it on my skin, it awakens my senses. Being a fougère with oakmoss and lime with a sweet note of tonka bean, I can't help thinking about going through a flower garden with ferns after the rain has cleared and smell of everything coming together. The sweetness coming through has a cool green vib making it very easy to wear and not in your face. There's a slight hint of wood note, barely noticeable. Longevity and Sillage are both on the high end. It's a really shame that Gucci hasn't tried to bring it back. On that point, Dior with Sauvage and Trussardi to name a few have failed by using a iconic name but changed the DNA so much it should of been called something else. I'm so lucky that I have a mini bottle and a 50ml bottle. To me it's one of a few that works for all 4 seasons. Absolutely phenomenal 10/10
