Gucci Pour Homme (1976)

I'm so excited I can barely contain myself. SO, I've been knocking myself out trying to find the HOLY GRAIL because seriously . . . with 199 specimens I'm out of shelf space. I just blind bought a vintage Chanel Egoiste and also it's flanker, Cologne Concentree for a steep but respectable price. I thought I may have hit the jackpot with these but, although they're very nice, they aren't the end all in men's perfumes. Well, I was surfing for cologne bargains just now and stumbled upon a little vintage-mementos site; quirkyfinds - there, in the clearance section, I see a tall, clear, 8 oz. bottle of Gucci Pour Homme 90° (Ninety Degree) EAU DE PARFUM by Gucci filled half-full with a dark amber liquid. So I get to searching and come right away to this page and see the picture which is only similar. The perfume I was looking for is in a tall, clear, square, rectangle bottle with a brass metal cap. On the front, near the top is the Gucci crest and below are the words: GUCCI In the center: eau de parfum Beneath that: The green, yellow and green horizontal stripes. (no center buckle) At the bottom: 8 FL OZ _____ 90° _____ ml 240 I have found no other information about this vintage but I think I struck the mother-lode with this and for only . . . $42.63 w/tax & shipping for 4 OZ! Gucci Pour Homme - 90 degree EDP (1976) My 200th bottle! I'll keep y'all updated. 1st update - 40 y.o. G.P.H. received and it hasn't soured one bit. At first splash it's a bit reminiscent of Aramis 900 and also Chanel #5. But quite puts them both to shame, it's that good. It's manly, masculine, classy and bold. For men only - Soy boys need not apply! 2nd update - it's a powerhouse of projection & longevity. It takes several hours to dry down to its sublime birthday suit. This is beautiful stuff. It may very well be the pinnacle, the zenith, the apex, the holy grail . . . you get the picture. 3rd update - This ambrosia is 4 oz. in an 8 oz. splash bottle so when you dab it on it's pretty much in your face when you've applied enough to start smelling it waft into your nostrils. I was pretty sure that I wanted more precise performance than a splash bottle gives so I thought about diluting it with 190 proof grain alcohol and maybe a dollop or two of Jojoba oil for good measure. So I started reading up on ways to do that and found several opinions, both here and at basenotes, which I thought were pretty lame for the most part. So I bought an 8 oz. perfume atomizer-bottle from Amazon (best price there) and I went with my initial thought. I said a prayer and then poured about a third of an oz (I eyeballed it) of the oil in. Then, with a funnel, I poured in approx. 2 oz. of the Everclear. Then I topped it all off with the 4 oz. of Gucci Pour Homme - 90 Degree EDP (1976) Voila, this is perfection! I can now spray fine mists, just as you'd expect, and this stuff is actually going into the dry-down much sooner. Oh, my wife just looked into the room and made eye contact with me, and with her forefinger, and a big smile, she made that Follow Me gesture. See ya'll later :)

Perfection. This is a true masterpiece created by Guy Robert and one the most iconic masculine chypres ever created. Gypsy Parfumista's articulate (and wonderfully enthusiastic) review captures what this scent is...for those of us lucky enough to have it, or to have even ever smelled this divine juice. One of my favorite classic male scents of all time. It is simply stunning & timeless. I am left, almost speechless...but remember that Gucci has always been a very high-end house of everything their logo is upon. This is exquisite, chic and very suave with its classic lines and composition. Desmondorama, I second your wish that this iconic and sensual fragrance somehow be reissued. But, sometimes it is better to let the days of yesteryear be forgotten by the new generation and only sought out by those really want to relive them or experience what existed in a bygone era. Alfarom, who I admire greatly on this forum, has it fully correct. You cannot compare this to anything created under Tom Ford. This is truly a 70's chypre with an awesome warm leather, musk, woody, amber and oakmoss base covered in lavender, sparkling citrus, and beautiful florals - green jasmine, earthy geranium, lush lavender and powdery iris in the heart. Spices are dashed upon everything...offering 'flavoring' and depth. It can be worn year-round although Spring, Fall and Summer evenings offer more strength and richness due to the warmth, I find it creates it own sunshine on cool, cloudy winter days. A scent that commands respect and will always be one I reach for on the day of a special occasion. No note or accord is dominant...it is the epitome of a balanced fragrance, so impeccably blended. Gucci Pour Homme Original holds a very dear place in my collection! If "liquid heaven" has a price tag - then it is on a bottle of Original Vintage Gucci Pour Homme. "There can never be too much elegance in your life"...what a marketing tagline and this came out when I was a very young child. I have finally discovered what the beauty and hype is all about - it only took me three plus decades to do so in my existence. 5/5 stars!! 10/10 and, anyone who does not know what an incredible chypre is, should try it and understand the art of perfumery that is captured in this glorious composition. One cannot 'quantify' beauty like this...it is olfactory bliss! A moment to share: I put a couple of dabs from a perfect 4oz/120ml squared flacon on the back of my hand just 5 minutes ago. I will put this poetically to evoke my sentiment: "To me, this is like coming home to my beautiful wife...and she kisses me the way she did like the first time we kissed, years ago." It is simply...stunning! For me, Gucci Pour Homme Original (1976) is a timeless, masterpiece of scent that will forever be relevant and captivating...

Like the ad says: "There can NEVER be too much elegance in your life". THIS is just what the name implies GUCCI ("old school" Gucci, at that) FOR MAN! This smells like a man, and captures, so well, that European sense of quality and luxury that the brand has always signified. This scent, also, is the perfect example (at least for me) of a stunning male chypre. *Many thanks and reverent bows to Action for the gift of a full sample vial of this wonderful manscent!* You are still the High Priestess of Perfumes...and always will be! This opens beautifully with clean citruses combined artfully into warm greens and clean floral aromas, manly from whoa to go!! First it is clean and manly then, as it develops, it becomes wonderous with dry flowers like carnation and geranium and irises with the warmth of pepper and earthy woody notes...HEAVEN! Like most TRUE chypres, this takes a while to unfold all of its beauty. And, as it does, I am amazed that Gucci even thought they needed another fragrance besides this one. If this is "dated", you may call me an 'old fogey'! GPH is another disastrous loss at the hands of either the IFRA or those who sought to dilute everything within an inch of its life, while supposedly making things "more modern" and I simply cannot imagine why!?! God, words cannot do this justice, it just HAS to be smelled. There is nothing even remotely feminine (even the jasmine is "butch") or "unisex" about this scent. It is all man, all the time! Strong, but not brutal, and amazingly luxurious without smelling too "rich". The eventual drydown is perfumed paradise for this guy! Warm, like a favorite wool fisherman's sweater, it eventually gets covered with a beautiful soft leather note and sweet tonka, resins and musk. Oh, and the oakmoss here really shines! OAK moss, now, not tree moss or black moss or whatever else they are using these days...REAL honest to goodness Evernia prunastri, that grows on oaks and other deciduous and coniferous trees and has a woody and sharp slightly sweet smell you cannot mistake. Gucci Pour Homme makes me feel like I am dressed in a vintage Italian leather coat and loafers, hand woven sweater and bespoke twill pants; even when I am wearing bleached out ripped jeans and a tee shirt (like today). What I wouldn't give to own an original vintage bottle of this golden elixir... Sillage: very good Longevity: amazing Overall: 5/5 Chyprefect! It came to my attention when using the search feature on here to bring this page up that the 2005 version is "pour Homme" and this magnificent melange is "Pour Homme"...that P should be capitalised! Everything about this scent is upper case, upper echelon and upper crust! I bow humbly in the face of Greatness...

What I find absurd with the fragrance industry is the way they use the same fragrance in different items. I know more scents like this Gucci which are used in different items like wc fragrance or in face/body creams and lotions. What a pity! I first noticed this fragrance somewhere around 89-90 by a "Sebamed" soap free cleansing bar (light green color) which I bought because it was soap and alkaline free and etc. They still produce the same soap, but I don't know it smells the same. If I see it somewhere, I would like to give it a snif. I was crazy about the scent and I was thinking why they use such a nice fragrance on a soap, but don't make a fragrance of it. One or two year later by a chance I met with this "Gucci Pour Homme" in a drugstore. I couldn't believe my nose that this was the same fragrance. It was the only bottle and I bought it immediately. After that I have searched everywhere for a second bottle, but I was never able to find one. I still have the same bottle. Almost the 2/3 of it is used. I keep it in a cool dark place and it smells almost the same. Time to time I use it. I notice that the top notes are bit changed, but the middle and the base notes are still the same. After the top notes are gone it smells still fresh as before. I wonder if there is another fragrance which smells like this one. Iceberg which is mentioned above here is not the copy cat of it. The Iceberg here smells more like Borsalino and Enrico Coveri. Unfortunately I don't know the other two fragrances.

I have been wearing this fragrance since 1979. These days I nurse my last bottle since it is virtually irreplaceable. I will not pay the ridiculous prices asked for sealed box bottles of this or any of the other "Guccicorns". This is a great aromatic fougere and one of the best of its era. In its day, there was nothing remarkable about the ingredients in this scent, although these days, many of them are virtually unavailable. The net effect of the way the ingredients work together is to create a very French version of an Italian scent. As such, the fragrance opening is somewhat spicy with citrus notes as you'd expect in a fougere. The lavender is there, but it is faint. Later, before the oakmoss, slightly animalic leather and musk (unabashedly real musk) in the base notes arrive, there is an unusual camphorous note that is medicinal but soapy at the same time. I have always thought that this note might be a hint of natural oud. Perhaps it is just caused by the way that the various spices, geranium and patchouli work together. In any event, this note, transient as it is, has always been what made this fragrance better than the scores of other aromatic fougeres that came out in the mid-1970s through the early 1980s. All-in-all, this fragrance is masterfully structured and compounded. The fragrance is both a bit dirty and beautifully risque (the French part) and also a soapy, clean gentleman's scent with clean florals and sparkling citrus (the Italian part). I love it.

OMG......this fragrance is ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL!!! I agree that there's never too much elegance which is an excellent way to describe this frag. Gucci pour homme and Noble are the pillars of Gucci's early success creating two amazing men's fragrance's. The open notes of this luxurious frag is a hint of bergamot, lavender, sandalwood and a refined mixture of spices. The heart of this frag is the aromatic and masculine scent coming from leather, cedar wood as well a warm/sweet scent of amber and musk. After this frag settles you can pickup all the subtle floral notes of jasmine, iris and french labdanum making this juice very desirable hands down. Having worn this frag both during the day and evening I'm always have someone come up and say that you smell sooooooo good. Both longevity and Silage are EXTREMELY high-quality. On my skin this fragrance lasts beyond 10hrs. Finally thoughts, How can anyone not find this fragrance amazing? Regardless of your skin type or your body chemistry, this fragrance is priceless. Rating this frag less then perfection is an insult on those who worked behind-the-scenes in the birth of this fragrance. Kudos to Gucci...10/10 love this frag ♥♥♥♥♥ :)))

Gucci Original is an absolute classic and the fact it is no longer available is just WRONG! Imagine if Aramis, Polo, Tabu, Joy or Chanel No. 5 were to cease to exist --- or if a classic piece of music were to disappear from the earth --- or if one of Shakespeare's plays could no longer be seen. Each represents a loss of a vital piece of human culture and imagination. H & R's Fragrance Guide lists the notes as: TOP: Bergamot, Lavender, Basil, Artemisia, Petitgrain, Lemon MIDDLE: Geranium, Carnation, Patchouli, Jasmin, Orris, Pepper, Pimento Berry, Sandalwood, Cedarwood BASE: Moss, Tonka, Musk, Vanilla, Labdanum, Amber, Leather This fragrance is a near-perfect balance of fresh, wood, leather, and mellow notes ... strong enough to be assertive, but not overpowering, and sophisticated with an undertone of rawness. It lasts many hours, but stays close to the skin, so it's not an "in-your-face" all day scent bomb like some more recent creations. It's not only a perfect representative of 70's class, it's a timeless statement, and I still get compliments when I wear it nowadays.

I have not had the opportunity to sample a large amount of Gucci fragrances in my lifetime and experience with scents. I do have Gucci Pour Homme II, and recently purcahsed this vintage version of Gucci Pour Homme. This is a very sneaky scent to me. I sprayed some on a card, and the beauty of it eluded me at first. Then i sprayed some on my wrist, and I have fallen in love with it. This is a dynamite fragrance. I do not so much get the woody notes, as some spiciness with citrus and a hint of what appears to me as vetiver,and definitely musk. In conclusion, i love this shit! I adore the sheer masculinity and power of this fragrance. It is the scent for an ideally strong and driven man. Take the time to sample this on your skin a couple times, as you will not be disappointed. Some time soon I will be sampling the newer version of Gucci Pour Homme from the Tom Ford era.

This is a beautifully crafted lovely and chic masculine scent that cannot be found anywhere anymore (sadly). It carries the usual DNA for the era it is coming from but it is not loud! Most of the fragrances from this era are loud which makes them unwearable in today's standard; but this, you can wear it easier since it does not make a big loud cloud. It's fresh spicy, warm, earthy, woody goodness. Iris and soft leather is making it just so much more interesting. It has a gazillion notes in it and if you try to guess them by smelling it, you will be lost in an ocean of beautiful notes. I may not be able to wear this everywhere but whenever I can cherish it, I do. It goes well with formal dressing.

My grandfather used to wear this. This is the one many may not agree with me, but the opening of this, reminds me of the drydown of patou pour homme. When (in my more recent years) i smelled patou pour homme, it was a familiar scent.... and knew i smelled that similar scent before, it was Gucci pour homme... so maybe i never smelled patou pour homme 20-30 + years ago. It may have been Gucci pour homme all along. But i may be mistaken I will do a side by side comparison of them soon. Edit: i did a comparison and it is as i said it is. The opening of gucci pour homme is similar to the drydown of my patou pour homme aftershave. But patou is still blended smoother...

still have some of this fragrance, was able to find a small amount of splash on ebay, smells fantastic still.put into a spray atomizer..i save it , if just to spray it once in awhile to smell this masculine masterpiece...this fragrance says simply..." yep, i got a set." i wish they would produce this again..cannot think of anything new that kicks it's ass..unless you want to smell like a cinnamon bun, still one of my all time favorite colognes,crisp snappy and all man..no confusion on who just walked into the room. sort of reminds me of armani pour home, this is from the same person who created hermes equipage.. no wonder I enjoy that one as well..

Versatile, confident, warm, kind, gentle and natural. Like that old uncle who take you under his wings, and put a good word for you in his fellows company. Money is not anything to talk about, neither brag about. This is the smooth operator, blending well with cigarette smoke and drinks, fitting well into the closeness of a business-class small-talk. Still feeling clean after a forty year-long transatlantic flight, it will not stand out, even if you try to rinse your mouth with it. It just work in the background, with its soapy, mossy leathery drydown. 9/10 -for every occasion when you need a big hand to hold. Not hip at all.

Oh I had been so curious about this fragrance as it was the original Gucci fragrance for men.. I had been wanting to smell it for so long & finally I got my hands on some of this! My first impression just from sniffing the sprayer was not so good! It smelled to sharp and sour at first sniff, but I gave it a chance & wore it.. Oh how gorgeous it smells to me now! It was a little shocking at first because I am not use to these type of vintage scents but it just keeps getting better and better.. I will update my review of this masterpiece with a full review after I wear it again and understand it more..

Possibly the greatest chypre for men ever created. Guy Robert has created a fragrance that represents sophistication and gracefulness while still maintaining a sense of hubris. The ingredients are numerous and complex, yet the result is a smooth and astounding blending of notes rarely seen in the world of fragrances. A special treasure in my collection that will be forever cherished.

This is the first perfume I wore, given by my father. He was presented as a gift but never wear so it was passed on to me in the beginning of 80's. It is a classic class, it is simple fragrance perhaps at that time guys would buy too. Probably one of the flagship perfume before many more were released years after. I love it and I can still imagine the scent in my mind.

Have an Eau de Cologne splash bottle, and EDT also splash. The third one is with atomizer. Splash bottles smell way more sparkling and fresh, the rectangular bottle has a more pronounced Amber accord. Don't ask me why, but the difference is very notable. Go for the splash juice, drier, no doubts. Iconic fragrance.

This is really awesome. THE '70s in the full sense. On the way of Eau Sauvage and Capucci pour homme, but with and incredible spicy/herbal background that gives a solid base and of course, the leather. The elegance and class it gives you is notable. For gentlemen.

I agree this was a great fragrance. I used to always be complimented on this fragrance. Masculine, woodsy, a hint of cinnamon note, soft musk and an air of elegance. Genuine wrist sniffer in the office. Come on Gucci, please re-issue.

This is a classic for a reason! Gucci Pour Homme has this amazing depth to it – spicy, woody, with a touch of citrus that keeps it fresh. It lasts forever and gets compliments all day long. Definitely a timeless scent.

Gucci should bring this formulation back. This exact formula. No changes. And hopefully Gucci wasn't bought by Estee Lauder. They made TF Tuscan leather more floral. Bad Estee Lauder. Bad on you.

I had this years ago and I really loved it! It was quite lasting, sexy, warm and quite masculine. I wish Gucci would reissue this iconic and sensual fragrance again!

This is a gorgeous chypre that borders on fougere I would dare to say. I was fortunate to be able to obtain a decant and will now be on the hunt for a bottle.

Finally I have it again, lovely stuff. Is this a masterpiece or is it a masterpiece. Edit: Found another 60ml bottle, it ́s a treasure. 10/10

Smells very natural and high quality. A classic gentleman's fragrance, but considering when it was released projection and longevity are pretty crap. Have two bottles, one is a travel spray in brown plastic (that looks surprisingly tacky for Gucci) and the other, a glass bottle, has condensed, oily accretions around the spray and rim, which happens with a lot of old fragrances, and the congealed gloop is almost like an extrait, a concentrated version of this fragrance that more closely resembles what I would have expected. Although pleasant, the fragrance itself is very linear and doesn't smell very Italian. Totally different to fragrances like Lancetti, Romeo Gigli, Fendi Uomo, which (to my mind) embody the heritage and traditions of Italian perfumery. Considering the legendary, cult status of its 2003 successor and namesake, along with the other Tom Ford era Gucci fragrances, especially Envy for Men and Rush for Men, this seems singularly uninspired and conservative. Boring even.

I received this as a gift in a small 25ml size many years ago. It was OK..nothing to write home about. A very forgetful unmemorable fragrence. Bottle was nice though!

First impression after spraying it on cloth: a perfect blend, with clear lemon, vanilla/amber, leather, patchouli, and a floral accord. I don't really get the wood but there's a hint of geranium and some spice element that helps to create a somewhat creamy quality overall. In some ways, it strikes me as Pub Cologne made elegant, though the notes aren't exactly the same (PC has clear anise whereas here there is a suggestion of anise). Though there's a touch of the crude here, the overall suggestion is that of a man with power who uses it judiciously, cognizant of what the masses desire. There is considerable richness and weight here, but it doesn't have the dryness required to produce great depth, not that it's necessary (Joint for Men is the deepest fragrance I've experienced). This is an excellent example of a high quality, blended designer fragrance, and to be honest, I prefer it to Patou Pour Homme. To me it is what I'd call a citric oriental, though with a chypre accord that becomes clear eventually (but it's never very strong). It's sort of like the citric oriental is covering up the chypre, and as it weakens you get a sense that a chypre is present. I get no fougere accord, however. UPDATE: I wore it normally today and my assessment is roughly the same, though I find it a bit more refined than on cloth. Clearly, it's not for the young, fresh, sport, aquatic or party crowd. UPDATE: Wore it today and got more lavender this time around, in a fougere accord, but it's light and nicely blended into the whole. The wood notes are no more than a bare background hum. It's a slightly powdery fougere/chypre/oriental hybrid with quite a bit of complexity, but it's subtle complexity. If you felt that Z-14 was way too crude this would be one to try, for example. There's a bit of an animalic quality, presumably from the jasmine.

I would wear this in 1986. It is a spicy leathery note, and with a top note of citrus. Quite remarkable as it does encapsulate the era of 80s. Many fragrances tried Gucci approach, Quorum, Sybaris, Halston, YSLPour Homme, Eau Sauvage. This was in the days of Porsche 911's loads of money, the first mobile phone, and when people going for a curry was good for taking the mick out of the poor waiter, and builders vans would go past any brown skin person saying "oi Abdul go back home" then they would pile into the Rise of the Raj drink Skol Lager and order egg and chips. For me this was sitting in the back of the biology class, whilst listening to Grand Master flash while Mrs Jordan with her pale skin and dyed brown hair with white roots, wearing a lime green dress would say there is a locust missing and the guy called Randolph later to be committed to a mental institution for a string of offences and molesting children and rape,would be toasting the locust on the end of a compass on the bunsen burner. Yet I think every time she smelt it she would accuse me of day dreaming and call me to the front to sit next to her. Years later I met her and I said why did you do that, I was well behaved, and she said yet but you smelt so nice. In a group of teenage spotty kids, you smelt like a man would smell. It was really nice as I would always wear YSL, pour Homme, Aramis, but when I wore this, she would just say come and sit near my desk your not paying attention. She would often say right 30 mins detention for you. I was perplexed as I had not killed any locusts! No locusts were hurt during the write up of this review, only the fact as my school reports say, must pay more attention! It was sad when Gucci discontinued this fragrance. Even applying it to your skin it felt luxurious.

The original Gucci Pour Homme and the later Tom Ford's version perfectly represents the two peaks of Gucci's success. The first one back in the 70's when the Gucci family was at the top of their popularity and always protagonist in the main fashion magazines. A family surrounded by mistery, intrigues and extreme luxury and elegance. In this context Gucci Pour Homme (original) was perfectly fitting the bill with a superbe combination of woods (mainly cedar), deep leather, pipe tobacco and some floral notes (lavander and bergamot). A complex composition, that's rich and elegant but not too mannered and one of those perfumes that we can't forget. Great! In the late 80's the big success of the house started to decline due to several conflicts and scandals in the Gucci's family, but fortunately Tom Ford came in and saved the brand from oblivion. 1999-2003 (perhaps 2004) was the best period for Gucci and the new Gucci Pour Homme, was the expression of those creative years and one of the last good releases form this (once) gorgeous maison. Rating: 8/10

Being honest, I have never been a Gucci admirer or 'fan' and probably never will be, but one has to appreciate 70's luxury in a bottle. It's a 'reserved powerhouse', lemons, masculine yet high-quality woods and leather then appear over a background of oakmoss. The mid also feature the famous florals (geranium, carnation) and herbal-lavender of course! See- Gucci Pour Home 1. Old-skool for sure, but with a touch of assured quality and luxury the brand simply could not translate properly into the 21st century. Gucci Pour Homme 2 remains their best for me, a 3/5 for the surprisingly elegant herbal tea-fume. High 2/5 for this one. Knock off a point (or 2) if you're an 'old-skool' hater.

I bought this fragrance in the late '80s from Canada's best, yet sadly long-defunct department store, Eatons. I still have that bottle, 2/3 full, and it's quite a testament to the quality of the old days, as I smell my wrist... it is still perfectly fine. I've not worn it in decades before this morning. An aromatic blend of citrus, spices, and lavender. Very pleasing to revisit this fragrance, I'm going to give myself another squirt.

This is Gucci’s Equipage. Guy Robert seems to have developed the same formula for both houses. Two birds, one stone. The resemblance is astonishing. Citrus leather Chypre as it seemed to be the fashion back then. [edit] If you can’t create a good line and have to quote things you read online, at least give credit where credit is due, youtuber. Don’t be a parasite.

Spicy, balsamic, smoky, and timeless. Gucci Pour Homme has a vintage feel to it without smelling dated. Something I can't quite put my finger on. I see the similarities to Equipage but this goes in an entirely different direction. These Vintage Gucci's sure have some of the best dry-downs, makes you wonder what the hell happened to this house.

Nice vintage DNA. Spicy, woody, earthy. My vintage juice has turned a bit but it settles down after the opening to reveal the true scent profile. It's fairly different than Hermès Equipage and not too similar to Floris Elite. Envy and Nobile are my favorites from the house but this first masculine of the house runs a close third.

The first Gucci Pour Homme begins with a whole dose of clinical bandage. Very distant memories of Hermes Equipage are there, Guy Roberts seems to be a WWII partisan. But then Gucci develops to the best black tea so far. Wow. Gucci Pour Homme II is the follower of this creation.

I had a bottle of this back in the day, but I cannot recall the fragrance in my mind. I remember liking it. Why Gucci discontinued this and Nobile is a mystery and a crime. I agree with some that Gucci has gone downhill. Envy was pretty nice too.

Got some used bottles, about half full. Not sure about it being off or not as this is the only time I’ve smelled it. It smells remarkably similar to Creed Viking.

Everytime I use it I feel like Don Johnson in Miami Vice. Real stuff from '70 for true machoman. Masterpiece
