Gucci Rush for Men

This was the first fragrance I bought that wasn't a mall brand catering to young white boys with more money than sense. My roommate had it, and I loved it. I would use it often enough that he was getting irritated, so I went out and bought it. That was a friendship faux pas. I crossed some sort of bro code line I wasn't aware of, and he stopped wearing it all together. That was followed by a period of snide comments about my wanting to smell like him. I didn't care though, it smelled THAT good. If it cost me a friendship, so be it. It was an amazing time in my life. I had moved to Los Angeles out of the blue, made a bunch of new friends, spent my days not growing up, and my nights living the life of an immature adult in a city full of people chasing unrealistic fantasies and dreams. It was the sort of time I wistfully reminisce over, and that's what makes this stupid fragrance so potentially financially ruinous for me. The smell intensifies all the good aspects of thinking about that time in my life, it makes it feel more present, more immersive. And that makes me want a bottle of it. So, I look around online, I find a few for sale, and they're a few hundred bucks each. OK, I could swing a few hundred bucks. It isn't exactly pocket change, but if I really want a bottle, it's not something I can't afford. Then I read reviews of vintage bottles, and I see people saying the juice sometimes, or often, or usually, or always, turns into a sour, acrid mess, the longer it's aged, regardless of how it's stored. Now I'm cautious. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on something that isn't going to smell like I remember it smelling. Except, what does that even mean? How can I trust my memory of a smell, that I haven't smelled, in over a decade? Would I even know the smell if I encountered it again? While looking around online, I come across a site that has 1ml and 2ml decants available... So I buy a 2ml sample, it's just of $13 for the 2ml, which seems reasonable to me, until I think, well, that's over $600 for a 100ml bottle. Regardless, I'm excited. I want it to smell exactly how I remember. So I wait for the sample to arrive. And I wait. And I wait. And I wait. Seriously, decantshop, you need to do something about your shipping practices, it took over a month to even mail my order out. So I get it, I spray it, and it smells ~~sort of~~ like I remember. Not so much different, just, less. Less potent, less impressive, less memorable... And I know that can't be right. Right? I mean, is it MORE likely that it's degraded over time, since, I mean, that was made around 15 - 20 years ago; OR, did I just create some sort of mythical scent in my brain, and replace the actual Gucci Rush entry in the olfactory meat computer that stores the elusive idea of a smell? Maybe it smells exactly like it did, but I changed? This is the part of this whole obsession I could do without, the inconsistent aspect of the memory of a smell. This could be the ONLY time, I sampled a scent, didn't like the sample, and was compelled to buy a bottle anyway. And if that bottle turns out to be crappy, I'll most likely sell more meme-coins and stocks, and buy another bottle, and do that again and again and again until I find what I'm looking for, or there are no more bottles to buy. I'm hitting the love button on this. I'm hitting that, because I am holding out hope for the memory.

My mother use to wear Gucci Rush for women a long time ago but I remember the smell of it quite clearly, and I loved it! When I had heard that Gucci Rush for men existed I decided that I had to get my hands on a bottle.. It had took me a long time hunting some down but finally I had accomplished my goal! After reading reviews and looking at the notes it smells a lot like how I imagined it.. It is a beautiful woody scent! It definitely has similarities to its female counterpart, for example they both have this strange synthetic vibe to them while still maintaining a natural high quality scent.. I believe they both contain lac-tones that give them somewhat of a milky vibe.. Rush for men is a very woody fragrance and it smells absolutely amazing! I absolutely love the way the scent opens up with a beautiful combination of lavender, a gorgeous cypress note, and the milkiness from the lac-tones.. The opening is one of the sexiest openings I have ever come across and is by far my favorite of all of my fragrances! That initial blast of lavender, cypress, and exotic woods is just so stunning! After the opening Rush starts to change into a very woody incense fragrance.. The sandalwood and cedar combination is great and smells very mysterious and sexy.. The incense is there but low key.. Rush has a synthetic vibe to it but to me it still smells very natural.. I happen to love that "plastic" synthetic note that you find in Rush, it is unique.. This synthetic note was made to resemble the scent of "poppers" and the lovely white video cassette shaped bottle was meant to go along with that theme.. When I wear Rush it tends to change and smell differently each time I wear it.. It opens somewhat fresh with the cypress and than turns into a warmer, darker, and more sensual scent.. It is great for casual wear and it is sexy enough for dates and close encounters.. Rush does smell like something that was released in the year "2000" but It was very modern for it's time.. The only problem I have encountered with Rush for men is that the longevity is lacking and the projection is nearly non existent.. I can only smell it on my skin for up to 3-4 hours max, and after the first ten minutes it becomes a extremely light skin scent.. Rush for men has the worst performance out of any fragrance I own.. Even though the projection and longevity are far from what I would like it to be the scent of Rush itself is out of this world! I can only imagine how amazing Rush would have been if it were more potent.. I do believe that the performance issues were Rush's downfall hence its discontinuation.. If Rush was more potent not only would it have done better but it would most likely have been my favorite fragrance.. I wear Rush when I am going out and want to enjoy myself rather than impress others, or I wear it around the house and keep the comforting orgasmic scent all to myself! If Rush was still around and still being made than It would most definitely be my signature scent! It is a travesty that Rush was discontinued to produce inferior fragrances.. I hope that Gucci will one day resurrect Rush from the dead along with the other classic Gucci fragrances.. Gucci Rush has become one of my all time favorite fragrances!

OMGOSH, OMGOSH!!!!! Many moons ago, when my now hubby and I were dating (we're married 21 years), I stumbled into, not one, but two bottles of this Gucci Rush at a T.J. Maxx for $7 a bottle, red tag clearanced out. I loved the fragrance. My then boyfriend (now fragrance obsessed hubby) did not use fragrance at all. He was a soldier in the Army. A shower and a swipe of deoderant was all he aspired to. I turned him on to Aramis (sex in a bottle...read my review on that one...it's pretty entertaining). He loves his Aramis...and so do I. But I want him to mix it up a bit. So now he has a number of different fragrances on a tray on his dresser. He hadn't used the Gucci Rush but maybe once. It's been sitting there all unloved. I have 350+ in my collection, so I haven't even thought about raiding his stash. Until one night I picked up that unique Gucci Rush bottle, square plastic but with white metal sides. Very odd presentation. I just sniffed the nozzle. Heavenly! But with everything I've had for a long time and suspect it could be vintage, I came to Fragrantica and then to eBay. These bottles (and remember, we have two) go for upwards of $500 each!!!! The next morning I pointed to those two bottles (99% full as they have probably been sprayed once each) and exclaimed, "Don't touch those, don't look at them, don't get anywhere near them!!!!" Of course he thinks I'm nuts, but what else is new? When I showed him how much they are going or he said, "What fool is going to pay $500 for a bottle of this?" And then he remembered the unsharpened gross of vintage pencils we bought for $1.95 at a thrift shop. I looked those up on eBay and it turns out they are worth about $2,500! Cut to hubby putting the Gucci Rush in the fire safe along with the pencils. Hey, we have a 10 year old son that's going to need college tuition in the future. Something to think about...???

Back To The Future If they asked me that the smell could have the future, this fragrance would come to mind. It seems an essence that has come to us with the capsule of time, it seems to have come out of the Scream video by Michael and Janet Jackson, starting from the bottle, a parallelepiped made of plastic and white metal, which recalls so much the purity, and the modern minimalism of the perfume, a bottle that looks like it looks like the packaging of the first iPods, born a few years later. After the 2000s, Gucci churned out three important masterpieces, Gucci pour homme, Gucci Envy and Gucci Rush for Man, the latter notch above his siblings. It opens with very aromatic and sophisticated woods, almost soft and creamy, however creamy a wood could be, Mysore sandalwood, Bois d'Okoumé and juniper blend with an incense base, white musks, patchouli and lavender that makes the fragrance slightly powdery, clean, modern and slightly lactaginous. A woody-spicy, all the ingredients are clear, limpid, bleached, the perfume plays on the white color, on soft geometries, on neutrality, with a futuristic concept, very linear, aseptic but at the same time relaxing, comforting, beautiful, young, suitable for any occasion, hyper-versatile, in any context, I can't find a time of year where to place it, but I would avoid the hot months. In the perfume there is also the touch of Tom Ford and you can see (and hear) and coincidentally many indelible scents of past years have his signature. For just this reason, every perfume collector should have this piece of history, or rather, this fragment of the future. 9.5 rating

AHHH Gucci Rush! What a chic woody modern cedar/sandalwood cologne. Every time I wear it get tons of compliments. It embodies confidence and absolute class. Unfortunately it is long gone. I do have a bottle and have been trying to find a comparable replacement since the few remaining bottles on ebay are way over priced. I have all of the five similar fragrances listed above. Each one is a lot like Gucci Rush when first applied but the dry downs are quite different. For Ex. Ferrari Silver Essence has a rubber smell that is prominent in all the latest Ferrari scents. Comme des garçon Wonderland has an Oud note that becomes prominent in the dry down. Visit is close but smells like a synthetic Gucci Rush. Satoriale is way too sweet the wood disappears and sweet powder takes over. There is one that is very similar that is not listed. It is the closest I have found in my research. Trend lui by Les Copains. The listed ingredients are quite different but to my nose it smells exactly like Gucci Rush especially in the dry down. It has sadly been discontinued as well, but it can still be found really cheap on beautyencounter.com, under $35.00 for 3.3 oz. I bought a couple of bottles to load up before it too is gone forever! If your looking for a replacement for the amazing Gucci Rush, Trend Lui is it. Better act fast!
