Tears Of Iris Eau de Parfum

It’s a beautiful and soft fragrance. It definitely does smell like that “department store cosmetic” at the beginning. This veers towards the orris root side of “iris”. It does grow powdery, but more like the chalky, carroty side of orris. Nothing like lipstick rose or baby powder. Until after, it starts turning more musky and boderline lactonic. This is a clean and uncomplicated scent. However for the price and how simple this scent is, it’s quite expensive. But it’s still very pretty EDIT: Trying this out more, it's starting to turn into a love for me. It's quite nostalgic. It reminds me of the smell of home, an old Estée Lauder powder compact, warmth and my mom's coat. Back when I was young, I'd wait for my mom at daycare. She was a full time teacher so I'd wait long hours than most kids to be picked up at the end of the day. When she did pick me up, I'd run to her and the familiar smell of a powdery cosmetic compact was all over her coat. I can't describe it. It's like a hug or the warmth in a heavy winter fur-lined coat. That familiar warmth, powderiness/cosmetic-like note/orris root I get in Tears of Iris reminds me of those days. We also had lots of powdered compacts and the waxiness in ToI reminds me of that too.

This is the iris scent that captured my nose and is now dragging me around a wild goose chase in search for another creamy iris fragrance. I find it a bit linear, slightly sharp floral iris, but nestled in a creamy sandalwood base. Absolutely delicate and beautiful, almost too innocent and ethereal. The downside... it does not last. At all. The first time I tried it, it was at the Singapore counter, and the SA doused me liberally (like, ten sprays -- I only spray 3-4 usually). 30 mins later, I could barely smell myself unless I stuck my nose against my arm or shirt, and husband couldn't smell it from two feet away. 2 hours later I can still get faint whiffs every now and then, but almost just a ghost of the scent. Very sad, as it's ridiculously expensive. I understand that the bottle is quite literally a work of art on its own (It's very beautiful. Seriously.), but at that price, I expect it to last at the very least 6 hours. Admittedly, despite the poor longevity, I still want it because of the scent. But I'm not buying that full price.

This is really nice, BUT! - I'm sad to have to add one - so reminiscing of another Gucci, as in Flora 1966. Though they don't even share same notes, somewhat these two resonate similarly. There are very noticeable differences between them, and yet upon first dabbing I thought of them as sisters. Here the iris sits on super smooth suede. It's not powdery at all, it's smoothness made perfume, the angelica just there to balance everything else. Alas, while Flora is a soprano, singing on my skin a dreamy aria, ToI is humming so softly that it's impossible to hear her voice. I actually wonder if she's mute... Five minutes and it's all done and over with. Now I get why Iris is crying: at the price this goes for, anyone would want more sillage and projection than what's ghostly, literally! There's no substance to this otherwise magnificent, soft, smooth concoction! It's gone 5 minutes after (generous) application. Why, why Gucci?? Why did you make us cry for more of this dream that vanishes way too soon? I'm heartbroken!

So pretty and delicate. It opens with what I call the “sweet spot” for Iris: balanced perfectly between an earthy, rooty iris and a powdery one. Never truly tipping too far one way or the other. The iris at the open is similar in shape to Iris de Nuit by HEELEY (not quite as carroty as this one however) but settles to a steely, cool, iris very similar to Harmonist Royal Earth. Once dried down, this is a shier iris, sitting close to the skin. It’s no powerhouse. It becomes sweet and pillowy. I had been sampling this off and on for about a year before I made my decision to purchase. So despite what others point to as performance issues —and they are correct—it’s such a beautiful soft fragrance that I wanted to add.

Gucci!!? Wow, Alberto Morillas has done a superb job! I know why this is called Tears of Iris, when the sales associate brought me some Gucci fragrances to smell I rolled my eyes and thought to myself “oh crap, here we go with some bull corn from Gucci” but when he sprayed it on me I damn near fell back with delight, I literally felt like crying with how beautiful it smelled and yes I bought the bottle, Anyways, yes, powdery, makeup, cosmetics, smooth slightly woody and delicately musky to support the ever present Iris is what you’ll get so if you love Iris as I do at least sample this gorgeous fragrance. The bottle is simply adorable too. BTW, Virgin Violet is also beautiful, I can’t wait to get it :) Cheers!

I was gifted this a little over one year ago. At first it was not something I reached for. It’s one I’ve grown to love and appreciate. Very elegant, soft and powdery. It’s nostalgic to me because it reminds me of how my mother’s purse smelled.. like lipstick/makeup. It’s simple and chic. I’d want this to be my wedding fragrance.

Beautiful iris-centric floral woody musk. This along with 28 La Pausa are iris gold standard. Cool but not as cold as 28 LP and the sandalwood and musk give it a soft warmth. Delightful. Both are featherlight and aren't long lasting but love them regardless.

Gucci Tears of Iris is the latest iris scent for me to try in my quest to find a worthy alternative to Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist. While it is too light and linear to be compared to ISM, TOI is a beautiful, sheer iris-dominant scent in its own right, made with high-quality ingredients. TOI is iris-dominant from the opening, powdery and delicate, underpinned by a dewy greenness, perhaps thanks to the angelica. It is a beautiful example of a sheer, floral iris. It becomes more powdery as it develops, reminiscent of a vintage powder compact, but not quite dense, root-y orris. A smooth sandalwood note creeps in as it begins to dry down, reminiscent of Jo Malone Orris & Sandalwood. It becomes wonderfully musky as it progresses, complementing the powder and tying everything together beautifully. Sillage and longevity are moderate. A feminine-leaning iris scent in my opinion, TOI is made for springtime; dewy, floral green-tinged iris with a subtle hint of powder. Elegant and demure, but very pretty in a vintage-style manner. 4/5.

This perfume is very nice, but I don't think that I would go out of my way to buy a full bottle. I'd use it up if someone bought me this fragrance, though. I like the iris and the musk, but I found it slightly too woody from the sandalwood and slightly too green from the angelica. I also think that I prefer violet to iris really. Tears of Iris is still very pretty and very feminine though and I got a decent 6 hours of wear and medium projection. It would make a great spring time fragrance for during the day! Altogether, I'd give Tears of Iris a 7.2/10. I'd definitely say it is worth checking out if you are into the smell of iris!

Gucci’s ‘Tears Of Iris’ is THE MOST naturalistic iris soliflore perfume I’ve found so far. As a flower, iris is an intricately delicate note to capture. Most make it powdery, but Gucci successfully represents iris as succulent but deeply florally creamy, whilst still innocent, fragile and nude in its stripped-down beauty. If it were a song, it would be a ballad - heart-felt, tear-jerking, beautifully structured yet simplistic and award winning, an ode to iris. The parfum and “perfumed oil” version are amazing. I fear that a £240 parfum might have me crying Tears Of Iris.

Beautiful woody, creamy iris. The waxy makeup-like iris in the opening is wonderful, I really wish that stage stuck around longer. As it settles it gets woodier. The longevity and sillage can be a little deceiving on this fragrance. After a few hours I will start to perceive it as a soft, close to the skin scent but I will get comments left and right asking me what I’m wearing, even many hours later. I’ve worn it out a handful of times and keep getting similar reactions.

So I've tried this again, and I've removed it from my "I wants this!" list. It's quite pleasant, no DOUBT, but it's not an out-and-out love. Gorgeous, but lacking in depth and complexity. Dialled in, in some parts, but mostly not all that spectacular. Still a solid 7, but, you know, I have about 100 8s, 50 8.5s and 20 or so 9+s in my collection already. I just don't have the TIME to wear these, you know...?

Used to hate iris as a note in perfumes as it more often than not has a lipsticky smell and this is one such example. However, after several years of experiencing perfumes, I have come to learn to enjoy it and so my dislike has changed into a like. This, though not a soliflore, acts very much like one. Strong lipstick scent. A good example of a lipstick like perfume.

A beautiful, soapy iris. The sandalwood adds a whole heap of depth and character to this, but, as others have said, it's really not worth the price they're asking. It's not just a little bit overpriced, it's overpriced by a lot. Hard to look past...

I love iris. It's one of my favorite notes. This one I don't love because it smells like beauty cosmetics. If you are into that then you will like it. I don't see myself wearing this one often. Sample it before you buy.

Smells like a nice older lady. Not especially fun or interesting. It smells more like a room than a person. But it’s ok.

Smells like a pleasant upscale teacher in her late forties. I really like this, it’s a comforting and friendly scent.

I think you can buy Eternity Intense for 10th of the price and will get more interesting perfume.

I got this since I loved Royal Earth EDP by Harmonist. This is very much a short perfume in terms of scent fatigue. It really blasts you at first then dissipates before it really gets into the groove. I got max 6 hours where other perfumes typically still have a smell 2 days out on my skin. This is a very strong smell if you don't put it on your skin. I've noted the cotton ball applicator being so volatile and radiates arm's length out. I do get a mild headache from this perfume as well if on the applicator. This is not a powdery perfume and is more like a musky cosmetic smell that falls more buttery and green than floral and earthy. Overall, think this is the kind of perfume you would put on a light scarf or in the dresser to keep clothes smelling nice.

Smells like an old school iris bath crumble (predecessor to bath bombs). My mom used to have them in all the bathrooms when I was a kid, and I would often use them in my own baths. Nostalgic, powdery and dry floral - heavy on iris, obviously. A touch too dry for me, but still nice.

The best part about this fragrance is the earthy orris opening. It becomes too musky for my taste on the drydown. There are much better iris frags out there for a much better pricepoint.

Tears of Iris is a beautiful iris soliflore. Like many iris-centric scents, this comes across a bit cold and aloof, but there’s some warmth to it too. All of the flower’s qualities are showcased here. It’s dusty, rooty, a tad powdery, a pinch carroty, a little doughy. The warmth emerges from its creamy nuances, from its woody base, a sandalwood off in the distance. I understand others’ concerns about longevity, though my experience hasn’t been as short-lived as noted by others here. When I first spray the scent in the morning, I can smell it until midday. That’s with a spritz to both arms and my neck. But when I re-spritz to touch up, I don’t detect it nearly as long. I suspect it’s a case of nose fatigue, as work colleagues have stopped to ask what I’m wearing even when I can’t smell it myself. I can’t finish my review without raving about Gucci’s packaging. The rococo apothecary bottle is an art piece itself, and it comes within a silk pouch in a sturdy, gilded box. The sprayer is magnificent too. With just a single spritz, I can adorn my whole hand and arm with this gorgeous scent.

My time spent with this new collection was limited to a sales pitch at Neiman Marcus. I did get to load my wrists up with this one, my favorite from all of the paper strips, and I can give full compliments to it for being a lovely, simple uncluttered iris soliflore along the lines of Prada Purple Rain. However, it only lasted an hour or so on my skin and I already have a $20 bottle of Demeter Iris that does basically the same thing. It also smells alot like Frederic Malle Iris hand cream so you could probably extend its’ life by layering with that. My biggest complaint about this line is that I feel like Alessandro got a little carried away with his obvious inspiration: fellow Florentine brand Santa Maria Novella (also Parisian brand Buly). Everything about the concept and the bottles feels familiar and it makes me want to go give my money to SMN instead.

I was able to sample this and smelling it out of the bottle it has such a heavenly scent but on my skin it smells like little kid makeup?? Almost like the makeup they used to sell at claires back in the 2000's and a mix of airspun powder ? It's not a bad scent though, I personally love airspun powder and smelling like an old lady but considering how expensive it is it's a no go for me :( Edit: on the dry down most of the old lady scent has disappeared and now it just smells sweet and lovely !!! Still wouldnt spend the money on it but if it was gifted to me I would wear it often I think. I need to test it for a while longer but i'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. Projection seems a little weak though....

This is an extremely potent carrot/pencil shaving iris scent—pure, unadulterated iris without any other elements interfering. It lacks the candied iris nuance found in Boucheron Iris de Syracuse, which I personally prefer for its very subtle sweetness. While this fragrance captures the essence of true iris, I’m not exactly keen on walking around smelling like a pot of boiled carrots.

Tears of Iris by Gucci 1/5 First impression is stale powder. This isn't a pleasant iris for me and smells like a worse version of Athalia by Parfums de Marly. There really isn't anything redeeming for me. Becomes a skin scent within fifteen minutes and I still smell it on clothing two hours later. Purchased sample from Surrender to Chance. Wore at home. Would not purchase.

Very pretty iris. It smells clean and expensive. Very linear, no depth at all. I already have Iris de Syracuse and agree that Gucci tears of iris is very similar to it. I would pay for a full bottle of tears of iris, it is really pretty! but I don't need it.

Starts as a smooth, cool woody orris, and dries to more of a light floral iris with a soft powdery orris base. Quite pretty but also very simple and very samey. Nothing new or different enough to merit the price tag.

The new Gucci Alchemist's Garden collection just ticks all the right boxes. The naming, the flacon, the color, the mood... Very traditional and Italian/English. Perfetto, Alessandro Michele! Bye Vuitton! -AB-

this iris fragrance strikes just the right balance between fresh dewiness and powdery woodiness-it creates a soft cloud that stays with you throughout the day- it just entered my "best iris" list-

I only smelled from the bell jar sampler which is supposed to be its dry down notes. It has a plastic vibe which I personally do not like. It also reminds me of feu secret by Bruno Fazz a little.

Smells like a Mattel baby doll from 1960’s. I just don’t know how else to describe it. Not floral, not citrus.
