The Virgin Violet Eau de Parfum

I noticed this perfume a few months ago when travelling abroad, because in the place I live we do not have the Alchemist Garden collection. I was rushing to the airport so just quickly smelled all the scents in a row and rushed out. The only one which stood out as the most unique one was the Virgin Violet (months later I went back and tried to identify the one by the smell). It smells very chic, upper-class and modest. There are many floral scents out there, and some of them just smell expensive – and this is the case with the Virgin Violet. Wear this if you have an a-line midi dress with a sophisticated floral pattern, low or middle heels and a hat with a wide brim. During my first acquaintance with the fragrance, I thought it smelled like “winter”, and when later searching for it in stores, I kept looking for that snowflaky, crisp, crystal scent. I believe it could be worn in any weather but preferably cool, as in the heat it will lose its magic and the “crystals” which will melt under the burning sun. So definitely not taking it to my hot summer vacation on the beach. The price tag is ridiculous though. I paid 337 euros (in Munich, Germany, in April 2023) but I saw that from the website directly you can buy it for 320. Still I am not sure it is really worth the price. Take a look at Guerlain Insolence as it gives a similar vibe at a much better price tag. I would say The Virgin Violet is the upscale version of Insolence.

I had no idea this existed. By the time I did find out about it, was in time to hear it had been discontinued so I blind bought a bottle. HOLY BEJEZUS this is actually the violet I've been looking for. I love many a powdery violet, but each is short of perfections. Love Insolence, but it's a touch too syrupy. Love The Favourite, but it's not quite violet enough. Love Mallow on the Moor but it's too green. Love Lipstick Rose is too rose. Lipstick On is too waxy. Sweet (Brooklyn Ellis) is too soapy. Fleur Majesty Rose Royale is too fruity. I have more, but you get the idea... I've been at it trying to find the perfect violet. Insolence and The Favourite as the closest... this is it. If you like anything I mentioned, this is a safe blind buy. It is most similar to Insolence, but without the heaviness and syrupy thing... but somehow it's still just as sweet, and that's sorcery to me. All the sweet and none of the syrup. This is powdered sugar and violets where Insolence is corn syrup and violets. It's got the brightness of The Favourite without all the other "distractions" from the violet. I love this. It lasts all day. It radiates about arm's length so it isn't going to overpower anyone. It's great year round, day or night. Why on earth was this discontinued???

A porcelain beauty confined to an ivory tower. She frolics around the chateau, sips loose-leaf tea on the veranda, and wears a pure linen chemise lined with silk. She is chaste, innately innocent, naive to the evil that surrounds her. Exuding a nurturing and pure energy, one can only imagine her scent, as she is the personification of the virgin violet. a cherished graduation gift. I had expressed my want for this fragrance for quite some time, as I was in search of powdery fragrances with notes of iris/violet. no fragrance has truly resonated with me as much as the virgin violet. the composition of the virgin violet is true to the notes. It is incredibly enchanting and sophisticated, but not too mature. The opening notes of powdery violet are absolutely entrancing, reminiscent of glass slippers tip toeing in the snow. after about 2 hours or so, it reduces to a soft and fresh baby powder scent on my skin. I feel that I can only capture its essence when I pair it with my Gunne Sax dresses and Parisian socks. I would recommend it to those willing to explore The Alchemist's Garden.

The Virgin Violet is soft, Parma violets, sweet, delicate, and very beautiful. I’m surprised at how much I love this. As with most of The Alchemist’s Garden line it is very intimate, but it does project better than some of them. I get a few hours of wear, and I’ve been reapplying my 2ml sample every time it wears off. I’ve come to appreciate the softness of this line-you could easily wear this and many others to work or places that require a softer touch with scent. The intimacy allows you to smell yourself and only share the scent with someone special you allow to get close to. There’s something to be said for modesty and The Virgin Violet fits beautifully here. Really addicting scent.

I first smelled this in a hand-held perfume bell on a store counter, and was so thoroughly struck by a memory of my childhood. My grandmother used to have a after-shower bottle of splash cologne, and would often follow it up before or after dabbing my body with baby powder...this somehow captures both scents, of soft powder down, and violet memory of the cologne. Silk slips, early morning spring air at 5 in the morning, grape hyacinths. Violet tea, and austere lips. This is a scent that exudes purity, without it being too cloy. My favorite violet scent. Highly recommended

Ok so this is amazing to me. Yes it is in the realm of Insolence but they are not the same. As another reviewer puts it, this is less syrupy and indolic and way more waxy iris here, which I prefer. I was going to declutter Insolence but decided that they are different enough to keep both, although I prefer this one, just better quality. I can also understand why this is discontinued as I just can't see this scent profile being popular among the masses. You can still find this at retailers.

Part of being an “iris lover” is knowing what make up iris smells like If you ever enjoyed designer fragrances with the make up iris accord you will love this one It’s a great blend of iris and violet the power on this one is excellent especially the projection in the first couple of hours You get the smell of make up in a good way for the whole day might lean a little feminine but iris lovers can easily pull this off Do not sleep on this one

This fragrance is dancing on the line of smelling like a Parma Violet candy, but doesn't step over it. It retains that purely floral violet essence and doesn't go full gourmand. It has an undeniable sweetness without being too sweet. If you're looking for a powdery violet fragrance that doesn't make you smell like a piece of candy, this would be a safe bet.

I have Goutal, Chloé Atelier, Guerlain... this is by far my favorite of all. The perfect dose of powder atop a discrete leafy freshness. Very little sweetness if at all. This is not beast mode like Insolence, I would describe it as rather intimate. But I like that. I love this perfume... time to buy backups!

i got this as a sample today and i want a full-size bottle so bad. one of my favorite candies are the choward’s violet mints (i have old lady taste, ok..) and this fragrance smells exactly how they taste. powdery violet mixed with liquid laundry detergent hahaha. it’s so comforting and addicting!

I like this perfume. Leans more towards a ladies scent. Its a powdery lipstick kinda scent which lasts a long while. Not sure why I get a bit of rose 🤔 anyways maybe its just me. I recommend it and its a nice safe blind buy. Not a granny scent but its not a sweet girlie girls scent

A very nice violet scent. About 4 hrs longevity and silage of about 2 m radius when first sprayed then slowly reduced to skin scent after 3.5 hrs. Reminds me of some soap or toiletries I had in the past, can’t remember what. Love it.

purple personified. beautiful, makeup-y combination of iris, violet, musk and vanilla. it’s less powdery and more concrete than celine offerings. great scent for purple lovers

Clean non offensive scent. Beautiful for warm days. Clean and for iris lovers. I reach for it almost everyday. I just read its discontinued and I dont understand why ?!

Dry, melancholic sounding Violet. No sweetness at all. Not bad for those who search just that. That’s clearly not an alluring one.

I love it on my May Tri Thut, first date and will last.. Powdery but mature, freshly but seductive. Must try it..

It's simple, easy, and straightforward, also my favorite...not worth $300 though.

I always love a good violet scent, and this one definitely qualifies for that category: it's a straightforward, very well-made, almost soliflore violet, sheer and transparent and tastefully sweetened to land exactly in the right spot between the real flower and a violet candy. Very nice, and especially perfect for this current sunny, cold period in spring, but I agree with others on this page: it's not exactly original, and projection and longevity aren't great either, which makes the high price a dealbreaker. Too bad, because I agree with the other reviewers about the loveliness of the packaging as well - maybe one of the other fragrances in the line, equally gorgeously packaged, will turn out to be worth that high asking price?

Right off the gate I said uh oh, we’ve got a TOO lifelike earthy violet scent here but then after a minute the magic happens and it starts to sweeten and become pretty. It continues to develop over the next 30 minutes and become sweeter and more balanced, thankfully. It’s a very nice, true, pure sweet violet scent. I think I like Insolence a little bit better but I can appreciate the journey this one takes me on and the bottle is so special. I love the apothecary look to it. If you are like me and you love violets, Insolence still is the queen but there's a close second with Sweet Parmesean Violets by Hilde ....something italian, lol.

This is Parma Violets on steroids! I happen to love the taste of Parma Violets, so if you know that taste, you know exactly how this perfume smells. The issue here is that I want to lick my arm, or go and buy some Parma Violets, but they're one of those retro sweets that you don't find easily these days. So The Virgin Violet would definitely be a pleasing perfume for me in that sense, but it is a bit sweets-like (or 'candy-like' if you're from the US). Luckily it becomes a little more soapy in dry down, but by then it's quite a bit milder, more a skin scent. Love it, but not as a perfume that totally works for me!
