Aqua Allegoria Ginger Piccante

I was underwhelmed when I first tried this from a decant swap. It was more a rose perfume than a ginger perfume. I put it away for awhile and pulled it out this summer and plowed through my decant in a month. It's still promarily a rose perfume to me. The ginger is most noticeable in the beginning, as is the bright lemony citrus. A light, bright rose joins and remains til the end. Very refreshing and perfect for heat and humidity, like a ginger rose tea. It's very linear on me and soft and not long-lasting. Stays close to the skin for most if its life. But I like perfumes that fade after after a few hours (I tend to not tire of my shorter-lived perfumes as I do with those tenacious powerhouses). I think this perfume is balanced nicely. It's not too sweet or too sour or "too" anything really. I can wear it when nothing else seems to appeal to me. It uplifts me when I'm feeling tired and refreshes and calms me as a bedtime scent. It also layers nicely with other roses or citrus perfumes. Happy I didn't give away my decant as I was thinking about doing that!

I think the creators were looking for the scent of ginger flower. An ingredient used in cooking. On first spray, this smells like ginger juice (grated ginger and squeezing the juice). Young ginger and spicy. Then, the English rose peaks through becoming stronger merging with a white musk base. A pretty perfume. One of those scents which barely says anything at all (not because you can't smell it) but, because it becomes one with you and the environment. The ginger stays crisp through the dry down. Unisex. I would love to smell this on the chest of a man. Another winner from the Aqua Allegoria range. I'm so happy that this range of fragrances while marketed to a younger market, are packaged in classy, stunning packaging and the scents are artfully curated for all to enjoy. Something lovely to put on everyday. My last ginger fragrance is from Origins, almost 20 years old. That one opens strongly and it's empty in the middle like a merlot. Ginger Piccante smells nothing like it.

I had a quick sniff and a spray in the store, and decided it would suit my partner well. By the time I could afford it, it was discontinued and sold out everywhere — except for astronomical prices online. To my great satisfaction I recently aquired an almost full bottle second hand, and it arrived in good time for christmas. I sprayed it on my hand, just to test it was okay... What happened was love at first sniff. An opening firework of lemony ginger quickly gave way to a buttery gingerbread cookie. The sweetness and warm spice released a wave of endorfins in my body, just pure joy and happiness! In the dry-down it reveals a cool, woody note — yet the ginger lingers on top. Beautiful! I don’t really get the rose in this scent, but it might be just the ingredient to make it light and comforting. I will keep this for myself, and start a campaign to make Guerlain restore it to the AA line!

Spicy, fresh, uplifting, and subtly sexy. I sprayed this on before bed, which I thought might be a mistake given the citrus notes, but it didn’t keep me awake. In fact, to me, it is a comforting scent. I woke in a delicious cloud of fragrance. It may be responsible for a sudden craving for Thai food though, lol. It seems to last longer on me in cooler weather. When I tested it several months ago, it faded too quickly. It was a hot, humid day. I cannot give you my husband’s full review just yet. He does like it, but I don’t yet know how much. He tends to prefer vanilla based fragrances like a lot of men. Edit: He says it smells like dryer sheets. I love dryer sheets! 😂 Another edit: Now he likes it a lot. Not a “sexy” like, but a aromatic, pleasing like. I’ve figured out that it reminds me of lemon ginger tea, which is something I love. Now my teenage daughter is stealing sprays from me.

Bought for me (thanks honey!) in January 2020, on holiday in the canary islands before Covid hit international travel. My nose tends to pick up singular notes, so I get citrus, ginger and rose. Thankfully the old olfactory workings do not pick up cedar, because generally cedar bases disagrees with me, mostly emitting 'back of the wood shed musty' type smell,I'm normally very agreeable so I don't know why cedar doesn't like me *sob*. but on this scent, cedar is unnoticeable. It's light, but stays quite a long time. I personally like spraying just on top of my chest, so when I flap my neckline I get a sweet ginger rose tickle. it's a favourite as it reminds me of my holidays and the fun Scottish couple we met there plus dark skies trying to keep above 19 degrees and generally having (and continuing) a relationship with a very nice man.

DELICIOUS !! I struggle with florals because truthfully I despise the smell of roses in real life, but the combination of ginger and rose is absolutely beautiful. It starts of very gingery - spicy and slightly candied, with an underlying soft rose scent. The dry down is much more balanced and the combination reminds me of a spa (my sister thinks it smells like gingery hair serum treatment) ! I personally find it quite relaxing and fresh but also expensive. It does not smell like cheap essential oil at all. The projection / sillage is not the best but honestly I don’t care. I can’t decide yet if I want to smell like this all day or if I’d rather have my room smell like this or both but I think this is my current favourite perfume I have. Give it a shot if you like a more spa-like (oriental?) scent

I like this one. Ginger Piccante is my favourite of Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria line, and sadly now withdrawn. It's a light, pretty rose-floral. Very refreshing and somewhat sharp. The ginger accord is more ginger lily flower than spice, almost tea-like. There's lemon and a lavish amount of white rose supported by transparent vetiver and light, unobtrusive musk. I'm convinced the ginger is actually composed from the other notes in combination: rose + vetiver + lemon + bergamot + a little pepperiness, though no one else has mentioned vetiver so I may be going off on one. The prettiness makes it lean fractionally feminine for me though I think anyone can wear it as a unisex rose. On me it seems to suit spring weather as well as cutting through the heat of summer.

I forgot this little wonderful one. When I organized my collection, I sniffed it again and it is like reconnecting with old friend. Ginger picante is the freshies version of D&G Devotion or Xerjoff Lira, I layered them after I reconnect with this again and ginger picante boost the citrusy scent of devotion, the balance vanilla and citrusy is so perfect, it is not too gourmand but not losing its cozy and yummy vibe. For an edt, guerlain did a wonderful job, the sillage is moderate and longevity is around 5-6 hours just like an edp works. I will search another one for back up bottle since I believe they discontinue this variant?

Yeaaaaaaah, Guerlain! This is the Aqua Allegoria we all wanted and needed. Not several depressingly similar scents with different coloured stickers. I don't care what anyone says, there's only so many ways you can market bergamot before it gets 'too much'. Ginger Piccante is an honest to goodness representation of natural and freshly cut ginger in the opening before becoming a soft, in-the-garden rose scent. It's simple, but by god is it effective. The rose is by far one of the most beautiful I've smelt in a while. It's also one of the first Aqua Allegoria scents I've decided I NEED. Well done. Really, really well done.

Love at first sniff! (Through a mask though, so the lemony opening was lost on me.) It's not a very complicated scent, just exactly what it says on the label - rose, ginger, and a faint cedar. The ginger and rose are very well balanced, without being too spicy or too rosy (imo). I could have done without the lemony opening, which is very sharp, but luckily it fades away quickly. Overall though, it's an extremely pretty, delicate scent. Not something I would consider sexy, but very pretty (which I prefer for day-to-day wearing).

What YSL L'Homme Ultime wish it was, without strong woody supporting notes (and thus a unisex version). As a previous comment stated, it's a candied ginger here (not regular ginger), so men may want to try this one before buying. Very uplifting summer frag, that I may want to wait for a price drop before buying ($80 is still a bit steep for what it is, but at $30-40, it would be a definite go). Perfomance is also better than most of the other Aqua Allegoria fragrances, and that doesn't hurt!

Fresh, bright, crisp, spicy, brisk, right at the get go and throughout. Ginger Piccante lives up to its name. It does actually smell like fresh ginger, later to develop onto a bed of light pink Peace Rose petals, a la Mon Guerlain Bloom of Rose EDT. The ginger never fades away, though, and they pair together unexpectedly well as a refreshing and zesty, punchy Aqua Allegoria for any gender. Longevity is about 4-6 hours until skin scent, and then if necessary, reapplication is a pleasure.

A stroke of genius! Ginger with roses, who would have thought? An awesome and realistic bracing ginger and fall antique red roses combined with summery citrus to form a unique and interesting accord. Individual notes are masterfully and seemlessly blended into a unified accord, yet each note is still clearly discernible and could all stand on their own. Definitely unisex! Spicy and rosey, it gave me warm, cosy, sweet and romantic vibes. Adequate performance on my skin too.

I smelled it twice in a perfume shop and decided it's nice but not for me, rather for a more masculine and energetic woman.. then couldn't forget about it and eventually bought one of the last bottles before their price skyrocketed. There's ginger and then rose in a simple yet intriguing, fresh mix that I love on myself and my clothes and receives a lot of compliments. The light, pink rose stays on clothes for the next day but it's not cloyingly sweet, just.. fresh.

To my chagrin I had this sprayed it and shelved it. It’s early autumn and I sprayed for an early morning walk to help me wake up. Bright and crisp. After my walk I was thinking what is that awesome smell...it’s this. Wow! Present ginger after the citrus, creamy almost slightly soapy wood and musk. Ginger remains. It’s beautiful and quite present. Glad I kept it. Surprisingly good performance.

Juicy ginger-lemon done perfectly. Ginger is prominent, spicy realistic ginger. Not tarty, but tiny bit sweet, very pleasant. Rose was not detectable on me (sad), neither musk (glad). It stayed fresh, fuzzy the whole time, did not turn to a boring soapy scent. Perfect for summer. I agree with comment below comparing it with Twilly, I prefer Ginger Piccante too, this one has better character.

I absolutely love it! It has rose, but smells unisex. The rose smells like a fresh-cut rose. Ginger comes out warm and delicious. Not very fresh, may not suitable for a very hot day, but except for that, you can wear this fragrance year round. It does not last for so long, but I get easy 6-7 hours. It projects moderately for at least 1.5 hours. Amazing scent! Guerlain never disappoints me!

Wonderful fresh-spicy-floral composition that pairs a spicy ginger note with an intense green rose, without any of the soapy off-notes ginger and rose can have. As it dries down, the cedar becomes more obvious, but Ginger Piccante never loses its floral character. Great longevity, and one of the most interesting perfumes in the Aqua Allegoria series.

Extremely unusual scent. Smells like Paul smith Rose with a hint of spiciness and less green. Just like a pure rose scent but with something peppery. On the right person it would be simple yet sexy. ITs not a sweet smell either Top notes: Rose, pink pepper Middle notes: Rose, ginger Base: Musk

I love this parfume so much. To me, it smells like a freshly cut ginger and a garden full of blooming roses with early morning dew on the petals. It is feminine, soft and inoffensive. I can imagine women from old romantic paintings wearing this. The only downside is the price for me.

Absolutely gorgeous! Fresh, sparkly and delicious, makes you wanna drink it! Everything in it is just right. Probably best Aqua Allegoria to date. Ps.: Ok Hermés, so this is precisely how one does ginger...

spices open up the senses, like morning dew. very light and fresh, true ginger. i love the antique bottle design, a golden touch, the bee top. unique and aromatic.

Guerlain should bring this one back, I just have one backup bottle left. A beautiful gingery rose smell, easy reach, uplifting, beautiful and clean smelling...

What a fabulous spring-time perfume this one is! Fresh ginger, with an effervescent quality like soda pop, with a very slight hint of rose...recommended...

Punchy, refreshing, candied ginger. Perfect freshie even in the cold days (it'll cut through the cold air). Energizing. Good for casual day wear. Love it.

This is wonderful! I will always have a bottle for as long as I can! Definitely my top 10 for life fragrance. It's stunning!

Aqua Allegoria Ginger Piccante Guerlain This one gingery citrus with soft floral smell, actually if you were not told it is rose. I don't think you will think of rose, it more like rosy hue flower (amalgamation of pink floral). Scent blast real fast and end with fresh floral musk scent, lite and intact on your skin. Where do I enjoy the most is when it is first blast, it is extremely peppery and spicy. Very fresh and evoking. Lite, crystal clear and sparklingly rosy hue transparent. It is really uplifting when you are kind of tired. I am not sure how long the scent last because I use this Aqua Allegoria more like a quick refreshing scent. I don't except it to really last that long because when scent passing the top, it just a Clean nice floral (Hedione) with Sheer Crisp musk, kind of morning refreshment, wake up fizz or an hangover night. I like Ginger Piccante because it is extra spicy yet gentle. As I creep in the day or going out, I would wear something stronger. I really enjoy this but when I get through this (which I don't think so). I think I can easily find the replacement, in this sort of scenario. A firm like for me. ===== Extension 1 on November 14, 2024 After arrival of Dianthus by Etro, I don't really think I will wear Ginger Piccante. It is beautiful lite scent nonetheless. Declutter.

After sampling a bunch of musky uber-feminine and occasionally matronly florals on the perfume floor of the mall and feeling very bored by them, this struck me as being really unique, although it teetered right on the edge of being too manly. A skin test revealed that the ginger gives way to a pretty standard languid rose scent, although it retains a bit of that gingery heat. I ended up buying it because I couldn't stop thinking about it, and I'm glad I did. While I don't care to wear it by itself, I found it adds quite a bit of interest to other scents. When layered with citrus-based perfumes, it helps mellow out the zing, and it gives a tougher, more boyish edge to an otherwise soft and silky white floral. Also, it's interesting that so many people consider this a summer scent because I find ginger more suitable to the wintertime. It makes me feel warm.

This is more of a rose fragrance with added ginger than the other way round in my opinion. Yes, the ginger shines in the opening, and it‘s really well done - fresh, spicy, fizzy and also candied, but in the drydown, the rose takes over. It‘s a fresh and dewy rose, so it‘s still a refreshing summer scent. I can also smell some fresh lemon juice in this, and I could have done without that note. Nevertheless this is pretty for warm days and stands out among other fresh roses. Not too sweet, not too sour. Despite being listed as unisex it‘s more feminine to my nose. Like most Aqua Allegorias, Ginger Piccante doesn‘t last forever on the skin, but they‘re not meant to, they’re designed to be sprayed generously in the heat. It has a very light base of woods and musk, and I think stronger or deeper basenotes would likely ruin the freshness.

Ginger Piccante is one of the few recent Acqua Allegorias that I failed to test when it launched: I love the line at least in theory, so I always seek them out, but this one wasn't as much of a priority for me because I'm usually not crazy about the ginger note. I'm glad I ended up acquiring a sample by chance, though, because this is really great! I keep forgetting that although ginger isn't my note on its own or in heavier compositions, it does wonders in fresh citrus fragrances, somehow enhancing their brightness and freshness while balancing them out just so. And the peppery rose that's added here is a wonderful addition to that concept! All in all it's a real mood lifter, a happy and original unisex summer scent. Somewhat to my surprise, I can't wait to add a big decant to my collection.

The lady I consulted at the Guerlain counter told me she layers this over Mitsouko in the summertime, her "secret recipe." I'm new to this but even I knew that was sacrilege to a scent so revered .. I loved her hauteur. With that said I can't imagine layering this over anything—it may be fresh but it's not transparent, the ginger and rose are having so much fun together, they're mock wrestling and collapsing with laughter. It really does sparkle .. There's a cheeky chemistry between them, the wry ginger and the cajoling rose .. A girl who's always half-serious should wear this, a girl with madcap energy

this turned out to be just a "like" not a "love" for me. the opening is gorgeous - the ginger kick really livens up the rose, but that only lasts a minute or two. the dry down is a perfectly acceptable, unobtrusive floral EDT that's easy to live with. also, and this is a me thing, but something about it bears an uncanny resemblance to whatever air freshener or potpourri they have in the front office of my apartment building. odd lol

I really don't like rose but here it's a dewy one that mixed with the ginger and other citruses and the clean musk is chef kiss! Airy, super fresh, great for hot weather and with moderate projection and longevity. Easy reach, ultra revitalizing and also feminine (to my nose but a man could totally wear it), not complicated and very likeable, a clean ginger dream but beware because the opening is sharp! and I love it.

Ginger ale, baby! Fizzy, sweet/spicy ginger ale. Smells wonderful! Although I love ginger and I absolutely love this fragrance, I realized after trying this that, I don't want to smell like ginger ale. What I need is a candle for my house that smells like ginger or ginger ale. Tip: A similar scent to Guerlain Ginger Aqua Allegoria Piccante is Gingerbread Man by Philosophy.

I am sure this perfume would be amazing on a really hot sunny day and you bath yourself with it like it’s a water refresher. I really like this, it reminds me when I was a teenager et I was in swimwear in the kitchen, bare foot on the cold floor, ready to go tanning and my mother was making a ginger and lime detox juice for me, good memories!

I'm a ginger fanatic and this fragrance does not disappoint! It's like Twilly without the tuberose which to me makes it more versatile between seasons. Twilly is my favorite fall/winter scent but it can be too overwhelming for warmer seasons. AAGP is like an everyday ginger but more interesting than the Origins Ginger IMHO. So good!

I like this one, but can't really imagine wearing it. Ginger is even too obvious and overwhelming to my taste. It smells really good and has lucid floral & citrus notes, but still I feel like being some very gingery dish or air freshener when wearing it.

Good, more spicy and great sillage. Maybe more towards the masculine side? Its easy to imagine this one being used by a man. One of the more interesting AA fragrances this year. I like it, but I wouldnt buy it. Too masculine.

Smelled the sample. Opens up with fresh spicy and citrusy smells, a little masculine but still good women. Definitely a good perfume but pretty weak SPL. Perfect for sunny weather. Rating 7,8/10

Spraying in this case equals cutting a slice of fresh ginger. Sunny optimism in a bottle. Isn't it lovely?!?

Ginger Piccante opens with a sweet floral and burst of citrus then it appears to virtually disappear in a few minutes. In fact, what happens is that it takes five to ten minutes to warm up and begin projecting. It's one of those deceptive perfumes that you can barely smell but gently projects into the room around you in the first hour or so before going back to being an intimate skin scent. I get about ten hours of it on my skin but it's very faint for most of the time. The notes are a little unusual in their combination. Most combinations of them work but when they're altogether like this it doesn't seem to work on my skin. To me it feels like the olfactory equivalent of mixing together certain flavours that I love but don't work together - like putting a hotdog with onions together with strawberries and chocolate. So this is a rare case of a Guerlain that is a pass for me. Oh well, can't win 'em all!

This opens up as if you had just prepared a ginger lime juice, but soon enough it gets sweeter. The scent was so familiar, but I couldn't point out what it was until now: Veet waxing stips. It's a nice, rose-based fragrance, don't get me wrong, but the association is just not attractive to me. 6/10

I sense the ginger, but it's definitely not "piccante". Very watered down ginger, rose note is much more stronger. A bit disappointed in those new Aqua Allegoria scents, some of the older ones really were my favorites.

I love ginger, so I awaited this one impatiently and impulsively blind-bought it. Recalling that my one prior foray into ginger perfumes (Twilly) had turned out not to be what I'd hoped for, I was afraid this would also disappoint me, and it sat in my room unopened for over a week. But I've finally gathered the courage to try it, and Guerlain has come through with this one. I perceived the sillage as vaguely aquatic at first, which was my one slight qualm, but now I don't sense that as much. It's a duality of softly sweet and spicy. The combinations of ginger/cedar and ginger/rose are fantastic. The rose is plush, the cedar is scratchy in the best cedar-y way, and the ginger is cool and sorbet-like... but somehow it still manages to heat up sometimes out of the blue, like hot ginger tea. It'll be hard to get bored with this one. Just like me, it's full of surprises. I love to keep spraying and refreshing it. The ginger note is definitely a candied one, but combined with the cedar, there's some bite. As others have noted, the performance is better than other Aqua Allegorias', but it's still not going to project and last like a beast, so I tried decanting a little into a rollerball. But the result was a lemon-centric scent, so I recommend using an atomizer for travel decants to preserve the note profile. It's definitely enough to wear on its own, but what I want to try next is to use it as a top-note boost for other perfumes that have already dried down on my skin. I feel as if this one might lend a zesty, shimmering quality over some darker base note accords -- La Petite Robe Noire, maybe? Hey, you never know, it might work. But I'm a layering noob, so don't quote my speculation.

I bought this a week ago and I can’t stop spraying it. It has a similar effect as my old favourite, Trussardi Skin, in that it’s sexy, but close to the body only. I have worn it in combination with Orange Soleil which is divine also (and doesn’t smell like Peking Duck, which worried me initially 🤣 - Although that would be yummy too!) I am going to purchase some back ups as these two have longevity, unlike the last few Aqua Allegorias I purchased. I do love this range so very much. *Edit - I really wish I had stockpiled this one. It's getting hard to purchase here in Australia now. I think this is going to end up the same as Trussardi Skin and Christian Lacroix (original seashell bottle) for me. Fragrance memories I can no longer recapture like beautiful dreams of winning lotteries or recaptured youth.

I’d like to ask everyone who’s familiar with the Allegoria range what is their favourite one, and crucially, which would they recommend to introduce it, bearing in mind that ideally we all like something that’s intriguing and sophisticated to introduce a friend to Guerlain’s remarkable repertoire of fragrance. I often think this is the hardest thing to do, but generally speaking we might choose one of the Allegoria range rather than a heavier definite choice of our own. I’m asking this as I am intrigued as to what choice members would make. Personally, I have never found one of this particular range that I have tried caught and held my attention, and, although I have never tried the entire range, the ones I have tried seemed to lack any depth and ability to make me add it to my perfume wardrobe.

I really love this scent... I forgot that I had an unopened bottle in my stash and broke it out today. I almost want to make a sigh that states “If you can smell rose, you are too close!!!” and wear it on my front and back. The ginger and pepper predominate, underpinned by a bright, juicy lemon. (Imagine you are digging your thumbs into one of those perfect, thick-skinned lemons that bursts with oil and juice the moment you tear through to the flesh. This is not a sunny yellow, but a clear, pale, bright yellow that suits its needs perfectly. I love the longevity and the implied warmth of the ginger. At work tonight I was told I smelled like spekulaas from a customer tonight..

Lovely summer scent....the zazzle of the candied ginger upon first spray is a zingy wake up....the dry down of the rose is peaceful and utterly appropriate for warm weather when everything is in full bloom. There is a powdery hint that I detect and it's probably the cedar....as a PNW gal, I can really appreciate that! Overall...it's a nice scent...not my fave of this line...that would be the incomparable Pamplalune...but you won't go wrong. I have another wearing of this decant...debating on a FB...but probably won't...not saying you shouldn't...but I think I have the best of the line already.
