Aqua Allegoria Laurier - Reglisse

This is my first Aqua Allegoria experience. The unknown liquid, the miraculous water from Guerlain stepped into lobby of my heart without ringing the bell. It was Laurier Reglisse. The fairy from the forrest with herbal veil wrapped around her body. Spicy licorice was hanging as a necklace towards her waist. I thought, how impeccably clean she seems. And noiseless. I wanted to touch her crown made of bay leafs and violets, and to hold on to her absolute grace forever. Laurier Reglisse stayed with me for couple of hours, resting on my right hand wrist, chanting "I’ve been dreaming, straight from the heart..." I do hope she will come back one day.

Lots of bay leaf, even more licorice. A green scent with a twist. I like this one, even though it's not my favourite. I wear it when I feel the need for the combination of fresh and lasting. Suitable for spring and early summer. IMO, a little too much for hot summer days. Longevity and sillage are moderate.

It starts out spicy, herbal, the beginning is very aromatic and very green. Soon after, the entire composition became sickly sweet on me. I could not discern any of the interesting notes of bay leaf, licorice, violet..even the amber and galabanum are completely hidden from my nose under this thick, sugary, coating. The scent is strong, and the fixation lasts a very long time. Bummer..*sigh* I just love all the notes listed!

Most of all I feel the bay leaf tea in this fragrance. Not my cup of tea. I don't like it.

Years ago, if you had told me that a fragrance celebrating bay leaves would enchant me, I would have laughed. You see, I am the type of person who usually kills plants. But, because of my love for cooking, this year, I've become incredibly interested in gardening. I love the idea of making food from something grown with my own hands; I love the sense of pride that I feel when something grows because of my careful love and attention. For me, it started with a little bay leaf plant that my mom gave me, which is now in the center of my new garden. The funny thing is that when I discover a new hobby, the universe conspires to gift me with people who are experts in that field. So recently, I've been taught by master gardeners who are tickled by my newfound love of plants, and who are equally excited about my bay leaves or trying to grow the perfect tomato. I think of this perfume as a "gardener's perfume"; I always have, even before I took up gardening. It smells of fresh green plants and the perfume of a beautiful herb garden in a summer breeze. I wouldn't say it's licorice that I smell, but more like a bay leaf plant growing next to a licorice plant, growing next to a field of bergamot and orange blossoms. To me this fragrance represents the thrill of watching something grow; the crisp green smell of watering my baby seedlings early in the morning; the blessing of a community of mentors willing to share their knowledge with me; the way the different notes come together so beautifully, much like a freshly picked bouquet of herbs. A fresh bouquet of herbs is not everyone's idea of beauty, but it certainly is mine these days.
