Chamade Pour Homme

Wow! Great fragrance, in the old classic Guerlain style. The original Chamade came out in 1969. I just tried my sample, but ordered a bottle earlier, as a blind-buy anyway; no regrets my bottle is on the way.. This Parisian line are remakes of classic Guerlain fragrances. In the opening it smelled very dated, but great quality off the bat. I have Derby, and although it smells classic, it smells good in a timeless way, as I would say about Equipage vintage. This smelled old in the open, but after a few minutes it settles, and explodes into beautiful harmonious accords, everything right-on and balanced: It becomes good or great in a timeless way, not old. I wanted to try or buy some classic smelling Roja Dove frags; Like Diagalev, a great classic smelling fragrance by an old Guerlain parfumer, Roja Dove. This is every bit as good in composition and quality as Diagalev, which is $1,000/100 ml. Mostly similar to Diagalev in that they both are great classic type fragrances. Fragrantica voters say Roja Haute Luxe is most similar. This has a wonderful unique accord, that I never smelled before, in 500 reviewed frags. I think it's the dry spiciness of nutmeg along with a violet, that gives it a watery, or dewiness; Great green notes, and a clear floral hyacinth. I think this may be the most safe for woman in the series, as it is gender neutral, but I would not say leaning feminine. At some later stage, drydown, when the Hyacinth becomes more prominent, you could say slightly leans feminine. There is a slight sweetness here, that has the impression of naturally comming from the floral hyacinth, almost fruity. I love it that I found a great floral, that is balanced with earthy notes. For me this is a masculine floral. I think I will like this better than Derby, as its more rounded, complex, and comfortable to wear. It changes and evolves like a great fragrance. I have also ordered Heros, looking forward to that one. Thanks to Kristo and his pal for their reviews on YouTube. I had to bump up my rating to a perfect 10, so good... PS: After a few more wearings, it keeps getting better. Some slightly sweet accord like leather, florals, benzoin are giving a hint of a wonderful fruity tone; that suede leather can have; closest to a white grape smell. Few fragrances have made me swoon like this one does (perhaps with the exception of Chanel No. 19 EdP, which I've also reviewed). This was my second love from Guerlain, after Jicky. "La chamade" in French is the beating of the battle drum, but also occurs figuratively in the expression "Mon cœur bat la chamade," which could be roughly translated as "My heart is beating wildly" or "My heart is all a-flutter." It indicates a bodily reaction to a heightened emotional state, whether it be love or conflict. This really is the most apt name for this fragrance, which unites mind, heart, and body. A luminous, soft, floral-spicy-powdery marvel unlike any other. I have a hard time conceding any similarity to Fahrenheit, which smells heavy-handed next to Chamade. Fahrenheit was an important scent for many reasons, and thus deserves its prominent place in the canon of parfumerie. One might consider Chamade as Fahrenheit's dandy of a younger brother: more carefree and mysterious, ready for adventure with a twinkle in his eye, with intimidating and unique style but a heart of gold. I think the hyacinth and nutmeg combo is what sets this apart. They bring something of a forward-looking nostalgia to the green notes. This is lying in an empty, sun-dappled meadow at the start of summer, thinking back to the summers of childhood but also looking forward to the rest of the season and everything it might bring. I'm sorry to wax so poetic in this review, this is just such a special fragrance, and difficult to describe. The pepper and spices give it energy, the florals and green notes provide grace and balance, and the wood and leather form the reassuring foundation of this splendid chateau. In the later dry down: soap and magic. Genderless, timeless. Better for daytime wear, and won't bloom properly in cold weather. My all-time favorite.

Do not think for a second that because this is called Chamade that it is anything like the original Chamade of 1969. It isn't. Guerlain should've just tweaked Coriolan, and left it with its own name because it is plenty good enough to stand well on its own. Damn good, in fact. The opening of the fragrance is very curious, and it's certainly attention grabbing. Black pepper and bergamot speak in the same volume and say nearly the same thing, but the pepper note is more interesting in that it isn't a nose-tingling pepper that we would expect or are used to. Imagine the flavor of black pepper without the bite, and that's what you get. The effect of this combined with the bergamot makes the fragrance feel extremely tight and closed off. It is impenetrable - as strong, stiff, unbreakable and unpliable, and dense as steel. Then, after about two hours, it's like that unbreakable and impenetrable vassal suddenly opens to reveal a stunningly soft and warm heart. Hyacinth, violet leaf, and nutmeg create a very captivating and tender feeling. They dry down over the course of a couple more hours to reveal the base all of this has been sitting on, which is a masterfully executed blend of vetiver, sandalwood and cedar, and dry worn leather. This is a classic masculine that somehow transcends time and fashion and it would be just as in-place fifty-plus years ago as it is today. Though today's masculines do not smell like this, Chamade Pour Homme has the balls and tender confidence of a man who says "well, you should smell like this." Superb.

One of the most versatile and classy masculine woody aromatics ever made, this is a real Guerlain beauty that deserves all the high praise it gets. The perfume opens briefly with bergamot and pepper before it proceeds to a dense heart of hyacinth, violet, nutmeg and grassy notes. The perfume settles on a bed of rooty vetiver, surrounded by woody and leathery notes. The masculine leaning scent has moderate to strong projection and very good longevity. Classic, elegant, refined, and sensual. Enjoy!

Smooth spices and airy florals on top of woods and supple leather. Unbelievable! It’s extremely refined. It’s the debonair cousin of CD Fahrenheit. Chamade Pour Homme radiates from my skin and stays with me all day. Clean, masculine, and inviting. I save it for special occasions because of the price, but it’s easily one of my favorites of my collection. 10 out of 10.

How I miss this... At the time, I thought Guerlain would stay the trusted house it used to be. Just shows, when you love something, you gotta get a backup ;-)

Class in a bottle. One of the best from Guerlain's exclusive line. Pity it's so hard to find.

Guerlain's Chamade Pour Homme is rather nice. There's a feel of something elegant and with a touch of class about it. It feels like it belongs in a line of perfumes such as Habit Rouge, Chanel's Egoiste, Hermes's Rocabar and Tom Ford's Italian Cypress that all radiate a gentle masculine class and the best of an old fashioned, traditional perfume that is best in the cold weather whether that's during the night or the day. The opening is a wonderful chord of bergamot sitting atop a tree of woody notes, green notes, nutmeg, some pepper and a gentle floral duo of hyacinth and violet. There's a moderate projection. Half an hour later the bergamot has faded into the background and the flowers have become more prominent along with a hint of leather. There's a king of masculine powderiness at this stage. Otherwise it's broadly the same. An hour in and there's a feeling of something that's nicely blended and balanced. This is where the earlier comparison makes itself felt - the line or school of perfumes including Habit Rouge, Rocabar etc. After three hours the perfume begins to start fading. Four hours in and it has faded to a skin scent but remaining present for another two hours. Six hours in it is a weak skin scent but it hangs on for at least another three hours. I get well over nine hours in total from this as a functional perfume. Is it worth trying? Definitely yes. Is it worth buying? In general, yes. However, if you have two of Egoiste, Habit Rouge, Italian Cypress or Rocabar then I would say you run the risk of having some redundant perfumes in your collection, and, at the prices for each of these, I would point you in the direction of Habit Rouge and Rocabar on the grounds of price. For me this does formal wear, office wear, or a nice night in. I think it's quite flexible for occasion and use. An excellent offering.

Starts of green and ozonic, bracing and fresh. Like many Guerlain fragrances it also has a slight soapiness to it. In the dry down it stays fresh and turns slightly sweet. This one can be unisex in the same vain as Aqua Di Palma or Muglar eau de Cologne can be considered unisex. Overall it has a nice quiet classic feel to it. Subtle and fresh you can't go wrong with this one. Thumbs up.

Great gentlemans scent. It opens with a fahrenheit like blast so I get why people have voted for that as similar, but it very quickly goes away from the fahrenheit style dna to a barbershop version of it with a very clean soapiness that is a bit powdery and with a slightly smoky vetiver background and a light touch of leatheriness. Hard to find now but worth finding if you can.

Chamade Pour Homme holds nothing in common with feminine version. However, when placed side by side, they just work perfectly together. The feminine version is very harsh, but in a good way. It blooms in such a beautiful bouquet of white flowers, roses and a bit of spices. Pour Homme unravels in a way not unlike Rive Gauche Pour Homme by YSL, but this one is far more classier. It's a mellow floral fragrance for men, that opens rather neatly with a citrus note and mild spices. It then becomes noticeable that it contains a very strong violet/moss combination. It's never too much, but it's never too soft that you cannot detect it. The nutmeg is beyond sublime in this, it's very powdery and classically Guerlain. The hyacinth reminds me mildly of Anais Anais and I adore that fragrance with all my heart. There's a faint sweetness to it that makes me think of old fashioned candy and, for some reason, beard oils that you can buy in very expensive barbershops. Now, I'm just a young man with not a lot of fashion sense or world experience but I do know what I love. Does this scent discriminate? Perhaps, but only in price. A young man with knowledge of fine scents can wear this, and an older gentleman can certainly pull this off. Does it have a certain event tied to it that you must wear it at? No, it can be quite casual oddly. It has all the elegance of a grand ball but it also has the class to share itself with those who might just wear it out with friends for coffee. There's no elitism here, just beauty. I received this as a 5mL decant from a lovely seller who was very trustworthy and kind. I purchased this with two other Guerlains, a YSL and a Chanel. This is probably my favourite of the lot. Very enjoyable and comforting. Barber shoppe scent, perhaps? 9.9/10. Not much negative to say about this except that I wish it'd project more.

Nobody walks on water quite like Guerlain. One of the few houses I know that can make fire out of two ice cubes...and here's another "How the hell did they do that" kind of fragrance. Chamade has all kinds of masculinity mixed in here; there's the prominent lavender, the sundry of spices, as well as the retro freshness. The floral fresh combo of violet and hyacinth architects the heart and the heart is colder than sandwich meat. Although the vibe is retro, it isn't archaic in the sense of "long forgotten earthy green"(if you know what I mean). The vetiver has a moody element which allows the leather and wood to showcase its naturalness. Wearing this, you could potentially be the most interesting man in the world. The Dos Equis guy comes to mind when sprayed.

Guerlain - Chamade pour Homme Hyacinth aromatic opening like a chic deodorant with spicy notes. In a few minutes it this cheap "welcome" goes away and we do realize it is a well made perfume - such with class! During the time goes,violets appear making my mind remember of Fahrenheit Vintage Version - i like this step. Then, smokey leathery vibes come among with vetiver. Dry is composed of vetiver and black pepper. It is a perfume for refined men, polite, classy, chic - a man with good taste of life!

I tried it on my wrist. After an hour or so, what I get is a mellow combination of florals and a warm leathery note. It's a nice scent with a classic touch. I like the smell but unfortunately its weak on my skin and doesn't have good projection or silage. As mentioned by previous reviewer here, Chamade Pour Homme is being presented in bottles similar to that of Arsen Lupin PH.

Shame on Lvmh Guerlain for having discontinued chamade, derby, arsen lupin , coriolan,mouchoir de monsieur etc and making mediocre new scents by a mediocre perfumer called Delphine jelk 😠👎 Guerlain in 2026 is the house of bummer 😕😕 I really miss Jp Guerlain era! When Guerlain was a premium brand 🏆 now it's just a cash grabs for Lvmh 😠

Oh man. This stuff gave me a feeling that I haven't quite felt in a while. Like a weird nostalgia, that was pretty cool. It kind of felt like the Fahrenheit nostalgia I get. This stuff to me smells like (in the opening) a kind of typical, but good smelling, 90's 'cologne' a guy would wear - but then add some cumin to it. I like this.

It remainds to me a classic of the 70's, "Grey Flannel" by Geoffry Beene, for the presence of violet and green notes, typical of those times.....however not for me.
