Embruns d'Ylang

This stuff has all the tropical, exoticism of Ylang but with a Guerlain type restraint not being as carnal or OTT, or "YAS QWEEN" as some Ylan ylang perfumes. Don't think that this stuff is a slouch or doesn't hit you in the face in the opening with a candy, banana/pineapple, waxy, super femme flowery vibe... because totally does. However, as I mentioned it's tempered and just gets nicer and nicer as it dries down displaying more powdery, deep, Wasser genius. Now I tend to like Ylang when it's coupled with jasmine or it's with bigger more amber bases just because they tend to warm up and seem less flowery on me. This one has somewhat of that aspect but really it's quite light and cheerful but without lacking substance. I'm surprised how wearable I found it, however it's still not for me to wear but I still give it the highest praise and If you like Guerlain and exotic florals this might just be the holy grail for you? If I smelled this on a woman, I'd find it very classy and alluring...whatever that is worth? Update: 06/09/21 I can't get this perfume out of my head. It's stayed with me and that is pretty rare. I actually rate this as one of the best in this art and materials line, that's really saying something too because it's a really fine line of perfumes, with many classics. It's FANTASTIC! I might have to shell out the big bucks you know? For a YLANG perfume??? WTF??? Not my usual cup o tea, I need to try it again to make absolutely certain but I found it an exquisite, light, summery fragrance but with depth and a hint of warmth. Lovely stuff.

I was able to snag a bottle of this with the gold panel side for a very affordable price. I had become interested in the L’art collection after getting Neroli Outrenoir a few months ago. I absolutely love this perfume. It is everything I imagined it will smell like and better because I am normally weary of salty scents. It is lively, sparkly, refined and so sophisticated with the right amount of spice and woods to ground it yet not make it too masculine. On me, it does lean slightly more feminine because it has this mild sweetness to it but I can tell you it smells amazing on guys too because I sprayed it on my adult son and I loved it on him too. Is it groundbreaking? No Is it full bottle worthy? Yes, if you can get it at a very good discount. Guerlain has managed to recapture my heart again after a long departure from the brand for years. I am loving all their perfumes from before 2020 that I had ignored and have a growing collection from this highly respected brand. I am so glad I got this perfume and I can’t wait to get my hands on more bottles from the L’Art collection. If you don’t like it the first time, wait for it to air out and try it again. You might just end up loving it like I do if your body chemistry matched with it. I spray it on my skin only and skip the clothes because I adore how the scent bounces off my skin with just 4 sprays. My third acquisition from the L'Art et la Matière line. Embruns d'Ylang, literally "Ylang Spindrift", is a gorgeously lush composition, worthy of any collection. The heady, high-intensity ylang-ylang takes center stage with supporting roles played by rich sea salt and spicy, sexy clove. The vanilla and patchouli add sweet-green richness, and the bergamot and orange blossom add a floral zest. The overall effect is tropical, buttery, and opulent. This is sumptuous summer in a bottle, and manages to pull it off without bringing in coconut or tiare. There's also enough density and spice to make this appropriate for spring or fall, but I think it might be a bit incongruous in winter. This is one that works better with a little bit of sun and sweat on the skin. Embruns embodies a warm, inviting luxury that anybody could pull off. The performance is stellar, like many of the other perfumes in this line. In fact, you may want to spray sparingly, as this can fill a room and lasts for at least eight hours. So divine!

Oh my this is just beautiful to me. Ylang is an essential oil that I always have on hand to add to various potions...it is so decadent and even erotic, I sometimes feel more so then tuberose or jasmine. I blind bought this, out here on an Australian farm during the age of Covid. My advice, just buy it before they stuff it up with reformulation. It does capture ylang. There is a washing wave of salt but it's subtle. A tiny beachy tang of tropical and coconut. There is an abstraction to it that is hard to describe; there is a dry sand and heat feeling. I've never really smelled anything like it...I keep thinking, is it related to Le Labo Ylang which is amazing but errs a trifle too masculine for me. I just can't get enough of this magnificent perfume. I wish it came in Extrait and body oil so I could marinate in it, Ok, there is a hint of Black Orchid, the sexiest heart of it, just a whiff. Masterpiece.

I went into my local Guerlain to chase this, because it has been impossible to find. My usual consultant told me that she just found out that the whole L’Art Et la Matière line is being discontinued in September. She isn’t aware as to if it is completely going or being repackaged. If anyone in Australia has a decant of Embruns d’Ylang please message me. —————— I got my sample today. I have just dabbed it on my wrist, it has a real shimmer to it! I cannot wait to see how it develops! ——————— I have really enjoyed this fragrance, though it could be described as mild and definitely not an overpowering scent. It starts out crisp and fresh with a burst of ylang which remains. The ylang isn’t a juicy scent, but more of a dry ylang (I assume this is the salt). The freshness disappears and stays simply ylang for a while before the cloves kick in and turns the whole fragrance into a sweet vanilla ylang.

This took several tries. The first was uninspiring but (like a few others) I kept thinking about it. There was a wear where all I could smell was a memory of my younger days and BPAL Amsterdam where I decided hard pass. But I still kept thinking about it. Then, several weeks and tries later, suddenly I had all the earlier experiences combined (dirty vase water open, daffodils, YLANG, salt, BPAL Amsterdam Aquatic, SALT, vanilla Wasserade) but they became this magical essence. I read someone else say in a different fragrance review that it was like their skin was exuding the fragrance....thats exactly what I was experiencing (and have ever since) with this. I don't really like florals, I definitely don't like aquatics and I'm not actually that fond of ylang, but this is magical. (Full disclosure, I am indeed a huge sucker for Wasserade)

Nothing like Back Orchid, not sure how people are able to make this connection... Absurd as it might sound, Embruns d'Ylang smells like Ylang Ylang floating in a Fanta, maybe the salt is what gives a feeling of fizziness? To my nose this isn't retro smelling, but instead something rather modern and crisp, the facets of jasmine and cloves make this scent incredibly memorable and unlike any other Ylang Ylang scent that I have smelled. Performance is extremely good for something so delicately crafted and the projection/sillage is so romantic like ooofftt! I can only imagine wearing this somewhere in the tropics after the sun goes down etc. Safe blind buy? Absolutely not, this is quite pricy and somewhat hard to find so I'd suggest sampling first or opt for something from the aqua allegoria line.

Oh my goodness where do I begin with this masterpiece composition. Spraying it all over my body and hair after a shower makes me feel divine. Salty opening and warm bright florals with a deep patchouli and sweet vanilla background, a relatively simple scent profile yet provides such unique complexity that works so so well. All the notes show up in perfect balance and serving their purpose in creating a harmonious blend. Stays on forever. Perfect for both daytime and nighttime. Unfortunately getting discontinued, so if you really love the scent of ylang, give it a smell before it’s completely off the shelves!

I recently added the original 75ml gold-label bottle of Embruns d'Ylang to my collection. After wearing it for the third time all day long, I had a revelation: its dry down is almost identical to the base of Quand Vient la Pluie—so rare nowadays. I say this with absolute certainty because I own both and know them intimately. While the opening of Embruns is salty and solar, that final, lingering skin scent captures the same ethereal, powdery soul found in Quand Vient la Pluie. It’s a sophisticated discovery for any Guerlain lover 💗💃🏼

Addictive, delicious, blustery ylang and iris-forward scent. Very salty and brisk but with sweetness from the vanilla combining with the banana side of the ylang. Absolutely wonderful and totally unique. Where there would typically be coconut, here there is salt and cloves (I think there's a song called Salt and Cloves...must Google later). I get ambergris vibes too. Performance is spectacular. Update: such a strong perfume, and I'm getting strong similarities to Ambre Éternel, that sort of leathery, buttery orris base.

Usually I don't like ylang. Usually L'Art collection is not for me. These perfumes are excellent without doubts so I didn't lose hope one day to get it. But every time they were too vanilla, too sweet, too... not mine. ... until Embruns d'Ylang comes. It's so good! It's smooth and sensual and elegant but not sweet at all. It's powerful and windy. It's simply great. And I think Guerlain at least has balls to release such an unusual and not typical for the brand perfume. Thumb up!

Has anyone had the opportunity to smell this in the new bottle? I have read that the scent has changed compared to the previous bottle. To answer my own question: I had the opportunity to purchase the new bottle today. It definitely has a better staying power than the old bottle. There is something more smooth about it as well. I liked the old one, but love the new one so much more. Packaging is gorgeous.

This is my favorite perfume along side with Vert Malachite. They’re both great at lifting mood. Embruns D’Ylang is such a bright floral scent. The Y’Lang and jasmine here are not shy at all. It’s linear, with great projection and longevity. It’s not creamy/lactonic. If you like Y’lang and jasmine, this perfume will make you smile!

It is a heavy white-yellow floral scent. It is enigmatic and prominent, kind of reminiscent of the Malachites from the Armani Prive line. Definitely heavy on ylang ylang and jasmine. A bit earthy, but mostly a heavy, smooth, creamy floral that definitely isn't easy to wear unless you are into other prominent florals

My priceless treasure. I absolutely love it in the cold, windy weather. It feels like juicy, a bit salty yellow-floral scent, which has unbelievably beautiful elegant sillage.

kinda remind me of TF Black Orchid but this one is less sweet and more enjoyable

Embruns d'Ylang is such a wonderful name for a perfume, so evocative! So much so, in fact, that I just had to sample it, even though that very same name told me that it probably wouldn't be my thing: ylang-ylang is a note I can mostly take or leave, and marine elements rarely really work for me either (Lorenzo Villoresi's Aura Maris being the noteworthy exception). Still, I couldn't resist the idea of tropical flowers through a haze of salty ocean spray - maybe it's being cooped up so much inside that's making me long for such an escape, and if it can't be IRL then it might as well be through fragrance... Well, now that I have my little decant and I've given it a couple of wears, I can only come back to earth: yes, this is very true to its name, and the marine vibe is a very nice spin on the tropical theme, but no, it's still not my thing. It's a pity, because the salty aquatic aspect really goes together wonderfully well with the sweet tropical white florals and the subtly spicy background, making it both original and familiar somehow. I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who's looking for something tropical in a more realistic and less syrupy sweet/suntan lotion way. Longevity is also great, and projection is just right - it's obviously the same high quality you can always expect from these Guerlain Exclusifs. But despite all that, it's still just a lukewarm like for me, and I doubt whether I'll ever see the bottom of my little decant - still, I'm glad I got to test it, and it might come in handy if real beaches remain out of reach for much longer.

This here is one of the strongest from the set of samples that I've tried so far. A dense, rubbery yellow floral with the ylang ylang providing a bit of fruitiness (banana, perhaps) to my nose. There's a boat load of salt in the opening and it goes down into the depths of the fragrance until it eventually becomes just like sniffing rock salt. The main body is the fruity ylang, a bit of creamy vanilla and powdery iris. I see mention of patchouli down below and in the pyramid, but unfortunately I don't pick that up (edit: I can smell it on my left wrist, but not my right... this happens sometimes. Always test on both wrists) I could swear there was some sandalwood in there, though. This would be great for a beach day, I think. Sunny, happy type of vibe. There's most definitely a parallel to Black Orchid; especially in the beginning. Personally, it also reminds me a bit of Ramon Monegal's Impossible Iris (which reminds me of N°5 but Embruns Ylang doesn't make me think of N°5... go figure). I haven't tried Mahora, but a lot of people seem to think it smells like this. If that's the case, I need not mourn having never tried it. Overall, I'm not sure if this fragrance suits me. It wears well, smells fine; lovely even. I think this time I just don't see myself wearing it.
