Guerlain Homme Eau de Parfum (2016)

For a while now I’ve been thinking that my collection would benefit from the addition of a fresh, mint forward fragrance for warm weather wear. There are a number of these to choose from, so it was a case of narrowing it down to a couple for testing, based on which looked the most interesting on paper. After some thought, I settled on Mancera’s Aoud Lemon Mint and Guerlain Homme Eau De Parfum (EdP). I tested each on consecutive days and was equally impressed. Both are likable, but in different ways. Whereas I found the Mancera to be sugary sweet and slightly synthetic, although not in a bad way, the Guerlain came over as more natural to my nose and far less sweet. Sweet fragrances are not a total turn off for me per se, but I do have a limit and Aoud Lemon Mint is just on the border of it. For that reason, I decided to purchase a full bottle of the Guerlain, as the safer option. Guerlain’s Homme EdP opens with a freshly squeezed lime note, which is the most realistic that I’ve experienced in a fragrance. It really is quite lovely, but as is often the case with citrus notes, it is short lived. Several reviewers have likened this initial stage to the smell of a mojito and I agree, especially as the lime mixes with an airy note of freshly picked mint. By 30 minutes in, the fragrance is evolving again on my skin. That sparkling lime has almost completely gone and the mint has become a little muted, as it is joined by floral and woody notes. And there’s something vaguely fruity in the background, too, I find; not fresh fruit, but rather like the fruity smell of jellybeans or perhaps Skittles. It’s just a slightly sweet hint. Likewise, I get a hint of white rum, but not enough for me to think of this as a particularly boozy fragrance. Later, cedar and vetiver come to the fore, as the mint fades but never vanishes completely from the mix. There’s a complexity in this fragrance that might not be apparent at first, but I find it quite striking. From its start point of refreshing lime and fresh mint, it evolves into a gently sweet, warm, woody, green masterpiece, that I think will work in many settings. I love this fragrance. Classy, refreshing, and with real substance, it works in all seasons, day or night. Performance isn’t exceptional, but a simple reapplication after six hours keeps it perfect. This was my signature scent for the two years leading up to the pandemic. At the time, it was the first more mature fragrance I had. I was used to fresher, more popular scents, which tend to feel more jovial. This one was different: less mainstream, less known, more unique. It gave me confidence and placed me in a good space during an important moment of my life. It has a unique balance of qualities: classy and sophisticated, yet fresh, clean, and zingy, with a subtle touch of sexiness. These are qualities that I feel reflect how I see myself, making it very much a signature scent. It also holds a special place in my journey as a fragrance lover. I bought it during a visit to the main Guerlain store in Paris, enchanted by the variety of scents. That moment sparked a deeper interest in discovering new fragrances and exploring niche or less known brands. Now, even with more than seventy fragrances in my collection, this one still rotates regularly. It remains a favorite, carrying both its distinctive character and very dear emotional memories. Guerlain is, in my view, a house that bridges the gap between traditional designer and niche brands, offering exceptional quality and unique scents, and this fragrance is a perfect example. I also think Guerlain is generally underrated. It’s likely one of my favorite houses, and their fragrances used to be an excellent value at discounters (unfortunately not anymore). Guerlain Homme means refinement, delicacy, subtlety, finesse, and is a way of proving the good taste of the perfume wearer. And it is one of the best perfumes I know of to wear for work. No matter how often and how intensely you smell this Guerlain Homme, which will always be a fragrance that will never tire. It's citrusy, slightly "boozy", a little powdery, a little woody and, above all, timeless. It's light enough to be casual and strong enough to work with formal attire. It never becomes overbearing, no matter how heavy the trigger finger is. I find this perfume extremely calming and a fantastic, versatile scent for men. It opens fresh and only slightly alcoholic. It indicates an initial mojito facet with notes of lime, mint and rum, and then gracefully embraces the floral heart notes. Base notes "boil down" to top-end vetiver, with hints of cedar and patchouli. Longevity is average and sillage is moderate at best. The seemingly weak performance can also be explained by the subtlety of the perfume. The aroma remains close to the skin for most of the perfume's duration. Being elegant simply means having good taste and behaving and acting with style and grace. Elegance covers all the reasons that objectively conflict with the perception of pleasure that is created around you. And this perfume is very elegant, graceful and stylish. Besides, it is quite cheap for the quality of the juice you get. Being a lover of very dense and heavy perfumes, I am charmed by this light and diaphanous Guerlain Homme. Writing a review after living with this one roughly 2 months. I've owned lots of tropical scents, some of my favorites being Virgin Island Water and Malibu Party in the bay. Those are fun fragrances, but they scream vacation Yolo vibes. This one has more of a mature elegance about it. The lime doesn't shout like VIW, and there is no coconut here. You do get the lime and a bit of mint which gives the mojito feeling but it's doesn't veer sun screen territory like Bond Fire Island, or suntan lotion territory like Tom Ford Soleil Blanc or MMM Beach Walk. No tiare flower here either. The drydown of this one is some white rum (but not overboard) and a beautiful sugar cane note. It's an understaded mature tropical vibe that reminds me of what DS Durga does with St. Vetyver insofar in that it's more of an abstract tropical approach in the drydown. Make no mistake it's overtly tropical in the beginning, and not as abstract as St. Vetyver, but every bit as enjoyable. This is a successful business man in khaki pants and a white dress shirt who has a summer home in the Hamptons. He can be on the beach with his family one minute, and step inside to take a business call or jump into a meeting with stakeholders or his team if need be. He's had a drink, maybe two, but he's not drunk. Weekend at Bernie's without the bad attitude or criminal element of Bernie. Guerlain Homme has an opening that evolves slowly for a minute or two before you get a conscious idea of what you are smelling. Many say Mojito due to the notes listed here, but as a former bartender I cannot agree at all. The mint is very well integrated here, and makes up a part of a nicely blended concept of high end perfumery mixed with a summery freshness. So do not expect the strong mint you find in barbershop classics such as Aramis Tuscany (1984), nor the amped up modernised one from Beach Hut Man (2017). And not the one from a mojito... I cannot quite say lime is very distinguishable as a novelty in the citric guerlinade either. There is a nice vetiver and cedar in the base, maybe with some violet, like the one Floris amped more up in their Jermyn Street (2015). Guerlain Homme is to me the epitome of a formal scent for summer use, or any dress code event between May and September, but it works well enough indoors the year around of course. If like me you loathe the comical talcum use of Xerjoff and such, this is well worth a try. It gives the same idea that is driving parts of the “Join the club” series of Xerjoff: Elegant, fresh and summery, but without the parodic talcum that evokes paintings of 18th century noblesse with powdered wigs. True, discreet elegance and freshness from Guerlain. Bravo.

Sophisticated, structurally balanced aromatic woody with razor sharp focus. Love it; bravo, M. Wasser. It's refined, grounded, and supremely refreshing. Doesn't matter how wonky or exhausting of a work day it's been—a good shower and three sprays of this and I'm a new man, ready for summer patio sunsets and lingering late into the night. The peppermint, lime and rum are beautiful accords; for those who are looking for "photorealistic", it doesn't actually smell like you doused yourself in a mojito, which I think would be gross, ugh. Nah, mojitos are for drinking, not wearing. This is way better: it's artful genius at work. The masterful blend excels at being refreshing without a trace of synthetic screech or the rotten-cilantro/swampwater calone overdose over an ambrocenide base in so many modern "aquatics" trying to be mega-refreshing, but are just tremendously off-putting and suffocatingly wearisome. The genius stroke of Haitian vetiver, Virginia cedarwood and that classic Guerlinade for a base makes the whole composition breathe weightlessly and evolve luxuriously without ever being heavy, cloying or overbearing. Awesome stuff; will always be in my rotation.

This is a great workhorse and, like any good jack-of-all-trades scent, it is neither too fresh nor too dirty, too dry nor too sweet. An easy pleaser that performs well enough on my skin to last a day. If I examine the scent deeply, it kind of reminds me of Heritage on a sunny, tropical vacation. Homme's opening is obviously brighter than the very 90s vibe of Heritage with Homme's strongly limey citrus accord...and it's definitely not as "winter weight" as Heritage, but it kind of fills a similar brief--a masculine, patchouli-forward modern fougere with the plush, musky, coumarin/heliotropin Guerlain vibe as its base. Clearly no one else smells the kinship based on the other reviews (and they are not smell alikes), but it almost smells like the theme of Heritage was reinvented for a younger audience in Homme. I resisted purchasing this after several department store visits where I smelled it quickly and dismissed the freshie top notes, but glad I finally picked up a cheap bottle. It is no mean feat to satisfy as an "easy reach," and I always find myself loving wearing this one when I do.

Guerlain Homme Eau de Parfum is an aromatic, herbal-spicy and woody fragrance. Its opening is slightly citrusy, but it is mainly menthol, it feels herbal, green, and the alcoholic note of rum is there, not in the way that rum smells directly, but rather that aroma that could be perceived from the mojito cocktail. After that opening, I feel that the fragrance goes directly to its drying phase with some masculine woods, vetiver, cedar and with less intensity a bit of patchouli. The aroma is very pleasant, it is a formal type fragrance, to be used in professional environments, office work, weekend outings. I imagine a family man using it (maybe it's my subconscious :)), but that's not why I think a single person can't use it. Its duration has been regular between 6 to 7 hours, with moderate sillage for the first hour and then decreases close to the skin. I think this fragrance plays in the same league as Terre de Hermes, it's not that they smell the same, but they convey me the same elegance, bearing and seriousness. I really like its scent.

In designer (affordable) perfumery, Guerlain is my favorite house, and Homme EDP is my favorite fragrance. Summarily, it opens with that sweet mojito accord already mentioned by many reviewers, and within a few minutes the woody and floral notes blend beautifully, forming a very well-balanced 10/10 scent. Be careful though — this fragrance is not as fresh as it may seem! When I bought it, I was looking for a fresh EDP with that “icy touch” that could endure the 35°C heat where I live, and also something easy to wear in low-demand situations, like post-shower (e.g., DG Light Blue, AdG EDT, CK One, and DHC). This fragrance is very far from that. I believe the vetiver and cedar make it heavier than I expected. Plus, that delicious sweet-ish facet lasts forever on my skin, which makes me hesitant to wear it on a daily basis as a signature scent. Despite the disappointing wearability (for my expectations), I absolutely love this fragrance and never miss a chance to wear it when the moment feels right.

Fantastic citrus accord sets this one apart gives it a reason to be. The peppermint has a dusty peppery elemi smell. Modern mens tonka light Guerlainade vetiver drydown with the top lingering throughout the wear. Also a shower gel blue thing going on with some type of ambroxan and calone. Not meant to be a beast but I sure wouldn't mind if they would. Probably would cost much more. I'm very happy with this. Very versatile 9/10 give or take a little. It might be a little weak on performance,? I might like it too much and impulsively spray more than I should,? Maybe I get nose fatigue with this one very easily,? It doesn't disappear completely, probably I would rate this on the lighter side of moderate performance. The first 2-3 hours are really nice. I can still smell it for many hours after that but it gets really close to the skin. There is a really nice muskyness left behind.

This was a blind buy and one that took a few wearings to fully appreciate. I was expecting a fresher brighter accord because of the mint and lime top notes, but even in the opening the base vetiver, wood, and patchouli lend this some depth. I was a bit surprised to find that it shares quite a bit of the DNA with the other Guerlain fragrance I own, L'Homme Ideal Extreme. There's a similar powdery and almost smokey finish that makes this something very different from your typical freshie - it's much more classy and sophisticated smelling, and I love it. This isn't a big projector, but I get admirable longevity and can still pick it up as a skin scent after 8 hours. I greatly appreciate that I can still detect the lime throughout the entirety of a wearing, as those kinds of citrus notes don't always last. This is a versatile, unique, and wonderful scent.

Took a chance based on reviews and the wonderful scent profile. Very glad. A blind buy and a favorite warm weather fragrance for Summer. Cannot get enough of the opening of spicy Rum, mint and lime which immediately invokes happiness of a tropical beach atmosphere. Woody notes balance the sweet and this is perfect as an office and work environment scent. The minty rum is short lived and Woody base notes take center stage in the dry down leaving the tropical scent far behind. I wish Performance was better, as this is borderline moderate and evaporates quickly with my skin. Such sad performance for such a stellar fragrance. If Guerlain can ever improve the opening note's ability to last into the dry-down, they would have a masterpiece. Overall another very classy, fun evoking scent from Guerlain. I don't believe this to be nearly as mojito-y or boozy as some people here have stated. I definitely get a minty vibe in the opening (which only lasts maybe 20 minutes), but to me it just smells like just straight up mint leaf (it does smell nice though). I get lots of vetiver and florals for about the first hour with moderate projection, and then it dries down to a beautiful cedar smell with floral mixed in. Fragrantica has the main accord listed as Woody, and I personally totally agree with that. I can put this on before work and still get wafts of it at the end of the day so longevity is pretty good. I love this one, but I'm just not sure how often I'll reach for a florally cedar type of smell. If you are buying this expecting it to be similar to the original Guerlain Homme, sadly I'm not sure you'll be happy with this one...

Thankfully, I'm not getting much mojito from this. Yes it's minty and has a lime twist, but the sweetness isn't there. Instead it's a crisp, floral landscape, with an early morning frost. The opening minty blast is soon tempered by the depth and warmth of the vetiver and woody base, resulting in a delicious, complex fresh scent that I suspect will work in any weather. It's currently mild autumn and I'm finding it perfect. I must say I can't detect any rum at all, but then it's been years since I've drunk alcohol so maybe I've forgotten what it smells like. I'd probably rather not smell like rum anyway. The first time I sprayed this, I was a bit taken aback, as its very different to any other perfume I've come across, but as with most Guerlain perfumes, I quickly u-turned into being fully in love with it. Bravo!

This fragrance has the characteristics of a fresh summer scent but the depth of a Guerlain perfume. It honestly should be in everyone's collection, it has the right balance between playful and serious. Can we worn by any age group after 18 in my opinion. Opens with a bright lime, little booze and a minty freshness but in the best way possible. The floral notes provide it a smooth, sweet touch without being obvious at all. The vetiver and cedar give it that depth it needs in order to come across as a sophisticated scent. Patchouli gives it that masculine feel, but I feel like it can be rocked by any gender if one likes it. I also get a little bit of that ambroxan/shower gel vibe but very subtle. Such a gem, BANG FOR YOUR BUCK, under good deals. Smells much more expensive than it is.

The vibe and allure of this perfume is amazing in Spring,Summer and Autumn, at winter not last so long and the smell is more "soapy" but still amazing. At constant temperature over 23-24°C is like an luxury mojito added some sweetnes i think because of floral notes and patchouli , on my ph on warm weather goes for 12H+ with a projection of 1.5-2.5m around me , the most notes i get are mint,rum,lime,patchouli and very slightly of vetiver. If its worth blind-buy , sure yes , if you let it , after you purchased to macerate for 5-6 weeks and use it in right seasons you will like it or love it . I give according to my PH an 9/10 for longevity, an 9/10 for silage and an 10/10 for the olfactory notes even they could make it a bit better if they added an Ginger and Bergamot to it.

So this is one of those fragrances that you need to spend tome with in order to appreciate it properly. The notes aren't saying much. The marketing does not tell you a story. So you have to figure out what this scent is trying to say and achieve. It is better this way because when the brand is telling you what to think and expect you get lazy. If you're real enthusiast in perfumery, then you should train your brain to understand scents. Not just to follow a lead from the brand. It's like reading books and imagining what's written versus watching a movie and just watch the scenes already made for you. So you don't need your imagination that much do you? Think about it.

I wasn't expecting this to be anything magical but it surprised me! To me it's woody and powdery with a bit of lime and a smidge of booziness. Not sure why but I pick up a lot of baby powder. It smells clean, lightly sweet, super fresh (almost but not quite soapy), and soft. As it dries it settles more on the woody and powdery side, and the brightness of the lime settles, but is still there. Love putting this on right out of a shower and feeling on top of the world. It's confidence inspiring without being loud and uncomfortably attention grabbing. A great scent that I think can be worn any time, but really benefits from some sunshine and warm but not hot weather.

If the sheen of light-jade polished marble had a scent this would be it. There's a hint of lime mixed with mint, and some pepper at the open, fleetingly effervescent, perhaps 'flitting' is a better word? Clean, bordering on crisp, but with the edges ever-so slightly rounded. Actually quiet lovely, and in cool, dry air, memorable even. Absolutely love it in the right setting. As others have remarked it simply doesn't project as long as one would like - for as long as it does, 2-3 hours before melding into the ether and gone, it's wonderful! Just desperately wish it lasted twice as long. Provided it's available I'll always endeavor to own a bottle.

I have the tall rectangular bottle of this as an EDP. I suppose it is the iteration before the square bottles. It is a splendid, kitchen sink fragrance combining many DNAs. It's strongly vetiver! It's a summer cocktail! It's flowers. Yet it recalls to me the old Encre Noire, the cedar and vetiver and greenness, when it was more resiny with a higher vibration, and I think of this as a summery and sunny Encre Noire. The mint is really effective so the strong Lamiaceae tones keep this away from anything "tropical". The evocation to me is a fragrant, dry, and sunny pine forest on a Balearic island. That's where you're enjoying your lime cocktail.
