Iris Torréfié

Guerlain really knows how to do iris! Or should I say orris? For this is no soapy-powdery imitation of the iris flower, à la Prada. No, this is definitely closer to that deep rooty-leathery orris that never fails to hypnotize. So many of the L'Art et la Matière line fragrances flaunt their skill and elegance, and this is no exception. I also own Néroli Outrenoir, which is not only in the same collection, but designed by the same nose: Delphine Jelk. For this dual treasure, we can forgive her the monstrosity that was L'Heure Blanche. I quite like the name, "Roasted Iris", since it derives from the verb "torréfier", which not only means "to roast", but is specifically used with coffee and a few other grains (as opposed the verb "rôtir" which is used with meats, etc.). It captures the main interplay of notes here: taut, refined, starchy iris/orris and fresh coffee. Now, coffee as a note in perfumery can be quite green, but that is not the case in Iris Torréfié. Here, it's toasted, rich, almost malty, and a bit acidic. Thus, it stays very "close" to the iris, whose buttery quality manages to round out its slightly rough edge. There's also some typical Guerlain leather there, as well as bergamot. Sound familiar? The core of this fragrance is quite close to that classical Guerlinade, which gives this a bit of a more old-fashioned (but certainly not outdated) vibe than some of the others in the line. Amp up the citrus and leather and add some smoke: Shalimar. Increase the iris further, remove the smoke and leather, and voilà: L'Initial. Here, though, the iris is foregrounded in all its lipsticky glory but tempered by the coffee and leather and enlivened by a subtle but lovely hint of cardamom. I don't get much of the vanilla, but there is definitely some musky ambrette in the base. The only issue I have with this otherwise flawless fragrance is the tea note! It sticks out like a sore thumb to me. I'm just not sure what it's supposed to be doing in this composition; it adds an extra kick of clean herbaceousness that clashes with the other notes and smells a tad artificial. Perhaps they were worried this would be too close to Dior Homme? The similarities are there, but DH (at least the Intense) is both less complex and smoother, as the waxy iris, smooth vanilla, and musky ambrette are all amplified. Whereas DH is in some ways "all base", IT has various ups and downs; the progression has more movements, you might say. And I'm not a huge fan of the tea one. Alas, I'll try to learn to love it! As other reviewers have noted, this is far from a gourmand, being quite dry and spicy. I agree that it's better as an evening fragrance for the cooler seasons, and it's more on the formal side, bordering on austere but never becoming alienating or too restrained. The performance is marvelous, projecting very well and lasting 5-7 hours on me. At no point will it overwhelm. I've heard that Iris Ganache was discontinued/limited to the Paris boutique because the iris butter became too expensive to source at the price it was being sold. I don't know if the same will be true of Iris Torréfié, but I'd definitely recommend you sample and get your hands on a bottle while it's still around!

Haute parfumes made by Guerlain are supposed to be fashionably elegant or high-class alternatives to their main offerings. The L'ART & LA MATIÈRE line of fragrances certainly tries to live up to the hype with a relatively prohibitive price tag of $260 for only 2.5 oz/75 ml of juice in a gorgeous, sleek glass bottle wrapped with a thin golden metal panel on the sides packaged in a luxurious box that feels too nice to toss in the trash. Iris Torrefie is going to be a hit-or-miss for everyone because it's not made to be a safe, crowd-pleaser, but as a creative amalgamation of raw materials that the perfumer personally finds interesting. Some main points from my personal experience: - The fragrance oddly smelled more complex on a test strip than on my skin or my wife's skin. - Sillage is a bit below average, only lasts about 4 hours, yet miraculously is a skin scent for another 7 hours. I only use four light sprays total (one in each bend of the elbow and one on each side of my neck). - The opening is a tad sweet and definitely leans more feminine at first with a generous dose of iris, cardamom, bergamot, and very powdery vanilla but then becomes more toasty, earthy, leathery, and nutty over a couple of hours and leans a lot more masculine. - Opening definitely has a bit of a slightly harsh alcohol blast for the first 30 seconds. - There's definitely a sorta-"coffee" note in there but it's not the same aroma you get smelling fresh ground coffee beans, rather more of a fire-roasted, dark yet nutty note. Oddly I did NOT like this at all when I first tried it because it was initially too powdery, floral, and feminine, plus a hefty retail asking price for a measly 2.5 oz. However, my wife and I LOVE well-made Iris fragrances, and it changes on our skin over time. The overall composition is very elegant, not made to stand out or be a projection king, is definitely unique, smells expensive. The overall never-ending scent close to my skin meant my wife and I had to have it and it works well on both of us. The asking price is still a bit too steep in my opinion but still far less than Creed or some other boutique fragrances. This was definitely a "hit" for me personally.

I am a sucker for iris. It is my favourite note of all, and I am always on the lookout for good iris perfumes. More often than not, I'm disappointed. Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist (unfortunately discontinued) is the definitive iris in my book, but I was excited to try this modern offering from Guerlain, perhaps my favourite perfume house of all. It is an unusual, slightly aromatic take on iris featuring high-quality ingredients. Iris Torréfié is, in a nutshell, a coffee-iris scent ("torréfié" refers to roasted, as in coffee beans). The accord surprisingly works. IT opens with a beautiful iris note, high-quality and powdery, buttery and rich. It is reminiscent of La Pausa - not as intense or grey as the aforementioned Iris Silver Mist. However, it subsides disappointingly quickly. Peppery spice creeps in, namely aromatic cardamom, paving the way to the rich coffee note. I find coffee to be a note that never quite fits in perfumery, despite its unmistakable, comforting aroma. Here is one of the best inclusions of coffee I've encountered - it marries nicely with the remnants of the powdery iris and smooth vanilla that follows. As it develops, a balsamic vanilla-amber accord emerges in the base, complementing the soft spices beautifully. It is slightly woody and quite powdery at the drydown stage too. It becomes slightly musky as it fades. Sillage and longevity are moderate, and it is feminine-leaning in my opinion. Transeasonal but perhaps more cold weather appropriate given its warmth, IT is an unusual, artistic iris-coffee scent that surprisingly works. I wish it was more widely available. 4/5.

I purchased a group of boxed samples of Iris Torréfié about a year ago. I love iris and have quite a few iris perfumes in my collection. I didn't know what to think about it at the time, but I do remember being disappointed. Today, I stumbled on one of the Best of articles written by the folks here at Fragrantica and then read the reviews. They were so overwhelmingly positive that I decided I'd try it again. I recall how when I first purchased Houbigant's Iris des Champs, I was not impressed, and now I recognize how special it is. I had the same experience with IT today. I honestly don't know what changed my mind. It wasn't because it received such high praise - I'm not easily swayed by the opinions of others. I suppose it could be the weather, though it's hot and humid today and I'm in an air conditioned space. Maybe it's because I've kept the samples in a dark, cool space and it's had time to fully come together, or perhaps my skin chemistry has changed. Maybe it's a combo of all three. All I can say is that this expertly blended creation with high quality ingredients has turned this into a potential love for me. Right now I have it as a Like, but I need to wear it a few more times to be sure. Repeat after me - if you find yourself indifferent to a fragrance or even don't like it at first, give it some time before delegating it to the Discard or Pass On pile. Just give it some time to see if it comes into it's own. You may end up with a winner after all!

I find Iris Torréfié incredibly beautiful. A kind Fragrantican sent me a 2-ml sample, and I can't stop sniffing my hand. I smell the iris above everything, which is just as it should be, but I also discern the cardamom, leather, and coffee, along with a touch of smoky tea (maybe Lapsang Souchong?). This is a little bit like Prada Infusion d'Iris, but "butched up" by at least 75%--in a very sexy, vintage-leather-jacket sort of way. Exquisite and refined but far from fusty! Update (January 2, 2024): Wearing this again, I continue to marvel over the strangeness of these accords, which would appear so inharmonious and yet work somehow. I can't get out of my head the idea of a roasted iris, though--I know that the "roasted" (torréfié) descriptor is meant to refer to the lingering coffee note and not to the iris, but the two notes are so intertwined that the iris really does smell sort of roasted, which is weird, but not as weird if you think of orris butter and gourmands--roasting that poor abused blossom is probably just gilding the lily, or so you might think. And yet! Honestly, this fragrance is too strange and refined for me to consider wearing often, even if I could afford it. I don't really want to smell quite so unusual. I figure I'm unusual enough in other respects that I probably can't afford to weird it up with my scent profile. I'll just stick to the more affordable Guerlains, if that isn't a contradiction in terms.

I don't gravitate towards gourmands, but I think it's because so many are either 1) wayyyy too sweet for my personal preferences, 2) very synthetic smelling, or 3) both. The ones I've liked in the past are usually "heavier" smells, like Killian's Apple Brandy. I've been trying to find a gourmand that I do like, but is a bit lighter. When I got this sample, I was begging myself to hate it, or at least not like it enough for a full bottle. Unfortunately it is one of the best fragrances I've ever smelt. Just wow. Straight out of the bottle, it's not bad, but not amazing by any means. It's a little powdery, but has a very sharp alcohol smell. A little spicy too, from the cardamom. But the way it develops on your arm is nothing short of breath-taking. This is the most beautiful, delicate iris note I've ever smelled, and it is so delicious with the cardamom. It's supposed to be more of a coffee scent, but it comes across to me closer to a chocolate infused black tea with a splash of vanilla. Looking at the notes, I can pick up on leather now, but it's not something I think I would have gotten on my own. It's more of a dark and cozy background opposed to a front and center leather. The whole thing is just gorgeous.

I have been spending time with my decant for 4 days now. The weather has been warm with cool breezes and no humidity. Here are my impressions: The iris is gorgeous, quality, and abundant in the opening. It is thick and rooty to me and not very powdery or floral. It is fresh and uplifting, not melancholy like iris can sometimes be. Instead of a lipstick print on a coffee cup, I picture one on a (plain modern) teacup of Lady Grey tea(Earl’s quieter sister). Bergamot always stands out to me and it does here, too, but it’s more balanced. I do not smell any coffee, maybe if I imagine very hard. I mostly smell the tea and it reminds me of visiting a beautiful Chinese tea shop in NYC that was an oasis from the crush and noise. The iris settles and blends in with the lady grey tea and vanilla starts to peek out, but oh so subtly. It goes to a skin scent within an hour for me. It’s a quiet, serene scent, but with a smile. It stayed on my scarf overnight, but again, was very light. Thankfully, I don’t get a lot of leather. There is a lot that’s familiar here and smelling the nozzle of Dior Homme and this they are pretty close.

This is the first time a fragrance has made me emotional. Iris Torréfié is incredibly nostalgic for me. It reminds of my childhood mornings. My dad would always grind fresh coffee at the start of the day, and my mom always kept fresh flowers in the house- particularly in the center of the kitchen dining table where we would all gather around. My bedroom was just above the kitchen, so I would always be greeted with the faint coffee and floral smell as soon as I opened the door. Iris Torréfié just smells like home for me. On to the actual fragrance — Wow, just WOW. The iris is not sweet nor too powdery. The tea note is so cozy and comforting; its cool yet not too sterile and cold. Next, the warmth of the vanilla and amber come together to balance everything out. Perfectly unisex, would love to smell this on any human being. I used to roll my eyes at reviews like this until I experienced this personally. Iris Torréfié will be my next Guerlain purchase, and a permanent fixture in my collection. Update - Purchased a full bottle. This smells INCREDIBLE on clothing as well!!

On paper I thought I briefly smelled cardamom but I don't smell it on skin. On my skin it's a very nice powdery fragrance, a buttery iris with a cosmetic quality, spiced by coffee. The coffee here is only complementing the iris, giving depth without overpowering it. It's not a gourmand at all. It captures this morning ritual when someone is getting ready, putting large amounts of iris-perfumed powder in the bedroom while a grounded coffee smell is softly making its way through the barely opened door. The scent is rather sharp and intense, it's not a comforting scent but rather a sophisticated fragrance that brings confidence. As a comparaison, I find Guerlain's Iris Pallida more soapy. I would classify Iris Torrefie as a powdery cosmetic floral but a very special one. Too bad it tones down too quickly on my skin to a faint clean iris scent.

A quality rooty iris (to me, more so than the “makeup” iris kind) that gets sweeter the longer it’s on the skin. Compared to for example Xerjoff Irisss there is that clear central iris note but less bitter dry and it is softened and sweetened by the other accompanying notes. I can notice the cardamom and the coffee (the later sometimes I don’t get as coffee but as a roasted effect that lasts a few minutes only) in the opening. The main note of iris with a soft leathery feel becomes sweeter towards the dry down where the ambery, ambrette and vanilla notes listed come through a bit more. I am really loving this when I am in the mood for iris. For the iso e super averse and related to one of the reviews below: for what it may be worth, I am someone who is sensitive to heavy weight aromachems but can’t detect any that bother me in here.

This is the most elegant fragrance I think I've ever smelled, and yes it can be that whilst being entirely genderless/ unisex. I am completely bewitched by this beauty. The top notes are indeed that slightly bitter, powdery orris we've smelled in the likes of Dior Homme, Shalimar Parfum Initial, Boadicea Harmonious and Iris Shot. It's a wonderful scent. Below, you get a warm coffee spiced with cardamom and ambrette. Beneath it all is a sweetened tea and leather. A profound, powdery fragrance. If you want to smell both beautiful and intellectual, try this. As with some of L'Art & La Matiere collection, it's borderline gourmand but cool and measured. A masterpiece, to my nose. Perfection.

So stunning. Warm, dry, papery, with strong notes of cardamom and more orris than iris flower on me. It is divine. Rich and smooth, with a kiss of soft leather. I've been pining for this since I tried it over a year ago, and try as I might I could not find a cheaper alternative that satisfied the warm papery quality it gave me. It is a bit strong at first spray, but calms into a very soothing and somehow nostalgic scent- like an old fashioned lipstick in a luxe leather bag, with hand pressed paper love notes inside. Soft but powerful. I wouldn't say it's traditionally feminine- it's not overly sweet or floral, but makes me feel timelessly beautiful none the less.

What a beautiful perfume. This is incredibly cozy, almost huggable. The iris is smooth, creamy, and never cold, and what amazes me most is the texture. It has this silk, almost tactile quality, like you can feel the softness of the scent on your skin. I don’t know how they achieved that, but it’s stunning. You do get that lipstick nuance, but not in a vintage way and I love the inspiration behind this creation. The coffee note isn’t super strong, but the overall blend is still one of the prettiest in my entire collection. It’s versatile, wearable year-round, and genuinely a cozy perfume. If you love iris, this is definitely one to try.

I really enjoyed wearing this one. The opening, on my skin, was kind of like a floral coffee & chocolate truffle, coated in cocoa. The ones you can get from fancy chocolate stores. It just made me smile. After that, it got a lot more powdery and I can see why Dior Homme is in the "reminds me of". It doesn't stay like Dior Homme for long and quickly becomes a sweet ambrette, tea & iris scent and more or less stays that way for the duration. Again, I really like that type of thing so I didn't find it boring or uneventful. It lasted the whole night and was there when I woke up. I'd say I got at least 15 hours out of it.

This is a very high quality Iris, which is really difficult to find, if not impossible today. The perfume on my skin is a lot of iris that turns sweet and mixes with leather in the middle and stays that way. In me the note of tea that some say does not stand out, it is definitely an iris / leather, with a slight vanilla. For me it is an exquisite fragrance. With the problem of iris prices, I think iris lovers should keep saving and getting backup copies of their high quality iris perfumes that they like. Maybe in a few years we will not be able to enjoy real Irises like these again.

It has that very Guerlain base that you will be familiar with if you smelled any of the Shalimar fragrances. It starts though with a nice dose of iris/ orris; a version that is a smooth creamy root. I do smell the resemblance to Dior Homme here, but just for the first few minutes. The iris/ orris stays in the background, but the vanilla comes through and gives the iris/ orris, as the name suggests, a slightly sweet and toasted characteristic. It is elegant and classy.

Best iris fragrance I have ever experienced. The composition showcases iris at its finest: smooth, refined, and elegantly powdery without becoming overly cosmetic. It strikes a remarkable balance between softness and depth, making it highly wearable while still distinctive. Although technically unisex, it leans slightly masculine in character, with a subtle dryness and structure that give it presence and sophistication. A truly outstanding interpretation of iris.

Look, i almost bought a bottle of Boadicea Harmonious and let me tell you the opening is a bit similar (waxy lipsticky iris), though this one is toned down. I read that Harmonious is similar to Dior Homme so I agree with comment below regarding similarity to Dior Homme Intense. But i have to say i prefer Guerlain the best, as there is a toffee like scent that makes it almost gourmand like in the drydown. Leaning towards getting a FB of this in lieu of Harmonious.

I love this so much that I find it hard to put my shirt in the washing bin in the evening. Opening has an chalky character. Thereafter it becomes smooth and chique. Contrary to earlier reviews this lasts on my skin and remains noticeable to my SO till the evening. The coffee note is there as an edge to the Iris, but not recognisable as a separate note to me. This is a more open and airy Iris compared to the closed and waxy note in Dior homme.

Wonderfully soft, powdery which I quite like, cocooning the delicious iris note. I don't detect the coffee note, and the vanilla is thankfully subtle. I'm reminded of Balenciaga Paris, a favorite of mine. Perhaps it's the soft blending of the florals. I found both more feminine rather than unisex. Iris Torrifie, however, is far more subtle, even elegant. I would enjoy my man wearing it. This one will definitely become a go to.

I love it, I want it! Really can smell the 'lipstick on a cup of coffee' inspiration. I am in my powdery vintage-lipstick era and this really does the trick. It is the warm coffee with the cool iris that makes it so interesting to me. A bit on the sweeter side for me, but not too sweet. Will be getting a bigger sample of this or try to find a bottle at discount. The perfume is amazing but the price point is hefty.

It may have been discontinued in other countries, but it's still sold on the official Guerlain website in Brazil. Mine arrived this week and I don't understand why it was discontinued. Wow, it smells amazing and I think it's one of my favorites right now. On my skin, the beginning is very reminiscent of my old Dior, but then it becomes sweeter and more powdery, less aggressive compared to Dior Homme Intense.

Weak performance, for that price tag I would hope for a better job. Though the scent is really unique, you don't smell anything like it every day. I personally wish there was more coffee inside. Overall, it is a great scent for a business lady who does not want to smell sexy or send wrong signals. It is for someone who has their life put together. Smells like a confident, rich yet reserved and modest person.

This is so good I wanna cry! It's very noticeably leathery and coffee-like with hints of iris. On me, the coffe note is more proeminent that other wearers say it is on them. Everything is so well blended together, nothing too overpowering, it is very elegant and creamy. Heavenly🥰 The only problem with this would be sillage and longevity

One of the most chic perfumes I've ever tried, very elegant, very sophisticated... Luxurious iris of the highest quality with varying facets. I feel light roasted coffee, suede, ambrette, woody tones, everything is very round, very well polished. It reminds me of a pinkish red lipstick at one stage. Amazing perfume!

Wow! I stumbled on this completely randomly & I'm so glad I did! This is what I love about the fragrance game. Stumbling across true gems unintentionally. I adore the iris opening but when it settles to the powdery leather, coffee dry down I'm left enjoying the intimate sillage. Added to my (ever growing) wishlist!

my favorite Guerlain ever. I absolutely love the simple concept of this, lipstick against a cup of coffee. the opening is similar to pretty much most powdery iris fragrances but, after about 10 minutes my god is it heavenly. I swear, these feminine leaning unisex fragrances are my favorites amongst anything. 10/10

I didn’t have high hopes for this since I’m not big on Iris but after it dried down, I am in love with it.The opening is warm and citrusy. The dry down is exquisite with soft notes of coffee, cocoa nibs, mallow, tannic black tea and amber. This is a very unique and very layered take on Iris.

I don't smell coffee, but the spices conjure the crisp burn of hot coffee on the tongue. With a touch of lipstick and powder. Incredibly glamorous and badass - a boss lady in lipstick and leather boots. Would be divine on a man as well. This makes me feel powerful and gorgeous.

Better, less sweet, more masculine DHI. Side by side, this has a better iris note, and the coffee acts as a richness and almost toasty note. I don't like like coffee note frags but I love this. Cardamom is present, but background. Drydown is drier, leathery iris. 9.0 Unisex

Okay, I need to say this could easily be a signature scent. On me, it is such a warm, nostalgic scent - like it makes me want to hug my self all the time. It's leathery and the iris is delectable. I wish it wasn't discontinued. I will be saving for a full bottle of this.

I agree with @nativelocal. People shouldn’t be reviewing or voting on fragrances if they haven’t smelled them yet. @nellyrlight, there’s no way for even very experienced perfumistas to know what a fragrance smells like without testing it based just on the notes here.

Interestingly, I smell this as bergamot/ tea perfume primarily; to my nose the iris is accompanying the citrusy duo, and there's also some leather to soften things more. it's a lovely combination to me, and I normally don't like iris. bottle worthy.

Classy, smooth iris. Smells like a fancy luggage store. I don’t pick up the coffee note but I do smell light spices. This entire line from Guelrain is well done, with quality ingredients, and if money were not an issue I would own this one too.

When I smelled this, it was an instant love, and instantly familiar. I couldn't place it for a sec, but then realized, this weirdly reminds me of French Connection FCUK Her. LIKE SO MUCH. I loved that then and I love this now.

If you like iris bitterness, you will bond with this masterpiece. I agree with what @markinho.sp said; yeah, it might remind you of makeup or a new fabric smell, but the development of the notes is a wonderful trip.

This one is something special. It smells so natural and expensive. Very well blended and you can tell that super high quality ingredients are used in there. If you ever get a chance, try it out.

An elegant, sophisticated and classy scent. Perfect for a male business professional of age 40 and up. One of my absolute favorites in my collection of 1,000+ fragrances.

@otteromkram - perhaps because those regarded as masculine and cited here have a feminine side to them, thus creating a unisex fragrance.

This is quite an odd scent, a bit chalky but I kind of love it. I don't normally like leather scents but this one is so special.

The iris here is very similar to the one they used in Shalimar Philtre de Parfum. Very soft, buttery, elegant and chic.

I don’t get any coffee, but heavens, this is an exquisite iris. May still need a fb, it’s so lovely!

Iris Torréfié (Sniff test from Guerlain Counter) I really like this one, I think Iris Torréfié need certain people to be appreciated. The opening of Iris Torréfié is a bit cliche as give it instant throw back to Insolence the OG. You must deep in Iris / violet before enjoying this one. However, the twist of Iris Torréfié is mild gourmand touch which is very enjoyable while reminds the sophisticate blend in realm of powdery. You also get a tint of Guerlain Leather - provide Guerlainade effect. As you know, they ain't Leather like Guerlain Leather in perfumery. Plus a few idea that how Iris Torrefie will be so easy to use. I think I might land on Iris Torréfié too. :) Very likely to be Mon Guerlain ===== Further update; (Brought; usd 420 batch from 2021) I am truly enjoy this one. It was in my finalist, at long last it seems to be no.1 On my skin Iris Torréfié reminds me a lot of Irisss from Xerjoff and 28 La Pausa from Chanel. However in this rendition leans tasty that other offering.. I think I can wear Iris Toreéfié everyday. It is powdery that not too dry. I really enjoy this one. It does resemblances Dior Homme as Iris + Cardamon but iris in this are more beautiful. It is very natural to my nose. ===== Extension 2: April 29, 2024 There was 1 question I have when I browse this on Guerlain website. This one classified as WOODS CRAFTED WITH STRENGTH in Guerlain catalog. I doubt, how the scent pyramid like this can be classified as woody, don't it should be categorize AMBER CRAFTED WITH DESIRE (?)... I know, this was a bit nerdy question, I shouldn't. but it is away stay with me. Until I wear this again today, then yeah.. this is actually smell woody to my nose. I remember I read somewhere long ago. There was an aspect of Woody Iris. Contains in certain type of Iris Absolute, this might be the reason. If then, Iris Torréfié will be the frist Iris fragrance that contains most of Iris aspect I can think of, the woody one, the powdery one, the rooty one, the cosmetic one. And it float in light citrus-tea accord, Today, my coffee fellow barely show up. I think, apart of Iris that blend with floral or Vetiver, this is such another great pick for Iris lover...

Many of the fragrances from the L'Art & La Matière line and many Guerlains in general are quite heavy on the vanilla, this is surprisingly different. It's a colder, soapier iris than what I'm used to from Guerlain. The opening is really lovely, I can smell the bittersweet coffee note which is also a little remiscent of very dark chocolate. It works so well with the powdery, waxy iris, but unfortunately it's just a top note and doesn't last long. Afterwards this turns into an elegant, clean iris scent. I don't perceive it as 'burned' like the name suggests, but it has a bitter undertone. To my nose it's kind of nutty at the same time, so it makes me think of sesame. Very interesting. Maybe the cardamom and leather play a role in that, after reading the notes again I think I can single them out. Vanilla and amber are only there to add a slight warmth and sweetness to the base so the scent feels smoother, they don't dominate the scent. On the one hand that's a nice change of tune for this line, but on the other hand I love vanilla and think a little more of it would have made the scent perfect for me. The way it is I find it a little too cold for my personal taste. I still like it though, it feels very chic and different from the usual powder bomb and lipstick iris scents. I have to admit that I have only smelled the Dior Homme fragrances in passing and can't remember which versions I have sniffed, so I can't join the conversation on similarity in detail. They obviously share some notes, but if you're not into male fragrances, don't worry. This iris is floral, creamy and powdery without any hint of traditionally masculine notes. It's not very sweet or girly and has a bitter side, but it will still come across as feminine on any woman.
