Jardins de Bagatelle Eau de Toilette

On the expert advice of Wendi (of Wendi's Parade of Perfume, on YouTube) I bought the EDT instead of the EDP, a choice that had been vexing me for months. I'm so glad that I chose the EDT, which packs a powerful punch (one wouldn't wish it any stronger, to paraphrase Samuel Johnson) and contains exactly the right proportion of green floralcy to woodsiness that my heat-addled soul seems to require right now. Years ago a friend gave me a tiny and pristine decant of vintage Caron Narcisse Noir, and ever since I have been searching for a narcissus note that intoxicates me to the same extent. Fragranticans, I think I found it in Jardins de Bagatelles EDT. It's not a soliflore by any stretch because I also clearly discern, at all times, the same creamy gardenia-tuberose juggernaut that makes Terracotta Le Parfum so appealing, but whereas Terracotta smells tropical, like some luxurious beach vacation, Jardins de Bagatelles smells like a stroll through formal gardens into a magical wild woods, one where flowers grow in crazy profusion regardless of climate or growing conditions. I don't think the list of notes is complete, because I could swear I get narcissus along with lily-of-the-valley. Then again, it could be the combination of white florals and "woodsy notes" (could it get any vaguer?). Whatever the source of this magic, I am glad to have it in my life. This is going into my regular rotation for sure. Updating my review almost exactly two months later: What an outstanding performer this one is. I love it so much. I love it when an EDT wears this well, with the perfect amount of throw, for hours and hours on end. I get the narcissus note all through the drydown, along with a gently twanging sandalwood. DIVINE.

I recieved it today, after i've bought and tried a decant of this in the "Bee-bottle". Its the most beutiful white floral with slightly greeness in the best way possible! i find it very similar to the decant i own. I think this will be a new favorite for spring and summertime :-) I'm in love.

My god this is so beautiful. It’s like a forest of fresh cut greenery with explosions pf jasmine, tuberose and neroli. All so crisp and perfect. JDB edt, jackpot!

March 2022 I am not the biggest fan of a vintage Jardins de bagatelle, i find it a nice one, but a bit too dusty on my skin, yet still i appreciate the whole composition, which is nicely blended and very complex. THIS HOWEVER....giiiiiiirl.... this one is quite bad. When i sprayed it on i started to question myself if this is indeed a right perfume, cause it smells like a distinct relative of the original. The opening especially if annoying, since there is too much of a bergamote i it. While the original is more tuberose and gardenia centered, creamy and over the top flowery, i find this more bitter and neroli/jasmine centered. To be honest it feels like a completely different fragrance. If i would be presented it in a bland bottle i would not have guessed it was Jardins de Bagatelle i know. So sad that they had to do such a drastic reformulation to it.

I'm struggling to articulate why I don't like this - I like white florals, I like cold florals, I don't hate soapiness. But I like light and fresh, and this is somehow heavy and slightly stewed, like a very old lady's heavily scented soap. I would have said it smelled oppressively like lilies, though that's not a listed note. Certainly the gardenia is too full-on - that's a note that sometimes causes sneezing for me. Must confess I don't know what tuberose smells like though I know it's frequently complained about, so perhaps it's also a culprit.
