La Petite Robe Noire

The reviews and ratings on this page annoy me. I guess most people are talking about the current version of LPRN EDP that's available now, but this is the FIRST VERSION from 2009! This has no cherries! It would be helpful if people checked the bottle they own before reviewing it. This is a gorgeous soft sweet fragrance, absolutely beautiful, and while it reminds me of the THIRD/CURRENT version of LPRN, it is not that similar. For the record I also love that version, but probably love this a bit more.

Beautiful scent. One of my favorites. It’s a little powdery. Kind of sweet. I smell a touch of licorice. More of a gourmandy, powdery, slightly floral scent that is best for fall and winter. It lasts a long time and doesn’t require more than one or two sprays. Can be worn by women of all ages but doesn’t have that “old lady” smell. Has a feeling of sophistication. I get compliments every time I wear it. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Oh my! This is an amazing composition! There are some fresh and soft citrus notes in top notes and warming vanilla and patchouli notes in base notes. And what I love the most - licorice! It is not some teenager-suitable sweet perfume, it's a masterpiece! Elegant, modern and well-balanced fragrance which is suitable for any occasion.

EXTREMELY sweet, not sure why i like this so much, i usually never go for sweets... it is actually quite spicy on my hand, got a weird memory of a car garage right now while sniffing it, some citrus ethanol thing The only perfume i have found in a store that i liked, it always seems to cheer me up

I don't know the difference between this one and the other couple that are listed under La Petite Robe Noire. I just bought mine so I'm assuming it's the most recent Edition. I love the scent. It reminds me of Tresor La Nuit but not as sweet. It's absolutely stunning, I adore the scent.

It's all personal taste, but it's a fantastic creation! It reminds me about my childhood. What gourmand means for someone, can be something completely different then what it means to someone else... . La Petite Robe Noir, is due to his ingrediënts really gourmand, no doubt about it.

This is Lolita Lempicka's older, more mature and sophisticated sister. She knows what she wants and goes and gets it. The licorice and vanilla is soft and beautiful. I adore this perfume, I hope I can resist wearing it everyday because it is EXPENSIVE.

sprayed it on my wrist at the boutique and felt it was overpowering .. as soon as i left the boutique a cool breeze blew in my direction and suddenly fell in love .. this is for people who like sweet yet elegant gourmand scents .

I am in absolute love! From the first sniff bright with lemon to the next level of rose, drying down to a wonderful warm vanilla and patchouli that lingers for hours, I can't believe how perfect a match this is for my chemistry.

I absolutely love this. It reminds me of Lolita Lempika, but with slightly less of a woodsy twist. I got a sample of this on Sephora and bought a bottle of it immediately. It's sexy and remarkable.

This one can be very hit and miss for me. It really depends on my mood or my surroundings on whether I want to wear it with the first initial spray, I get straight up cough syrup, and then dries down to a super powdery, sweet, almost cherry like fragrance. I’ve had this one in my collection for about three years however it looks like I’ve probably only used about 7ML. Not to say I don’t like it! I do like it, I just like the drydown more. This is very polarising and is not for everyone so I would definitely would not say this is a blind buy safe fragrance

Can smell the licorice right off the top. I think the lemon and almonds are very subtle. The smoked tea & musk emerged more with the dry down. I really do like the tartness of the lemon in this stage. I can't say I smell too much vanilla. Strangely, on one wrist the "cherry" note as described by another reviewer seems there while on the other wrist, the lemon is much more dominate. Nice fragrance but I'm not wowed as much as I thought I'd be.

This is a fun scent. It's really girly and innocent. I'm not really a gourmand gal but this works for me because I'm not smelling a specific dessert or ingredient. To me it smells like a Lush store but less heady. If you've smelled Lush's Godmother/SnowFairy soap, this smells almost EXACTLY like it (except more almond and patchouli...y'know sliiiightly grown up...). I wore this biking on a summer day. Really beautiful to smell in the breeze.

The bombastic combination of macarons, anise, lemon and licorice is quite strange. A bit of a mind f*ck. If I do reach for it, I wear it only to bed because of how powdery and sedating it is. Absolutely unique, but this is not a date night "little black dress" fragrance in my opinion. A very polarizing fragrance to be sure. I prefer Lolita Lempicka.

I smelt this on a friend of mine and I had to ask her what she was wearing. It smelled really similar to perfume I had sampled before but I couldn't place what it was. I later came to realize it reminded me of Interlude for Men by Amouage; on her it was quite smoky and had that burnt herbal/cloves smell.

Too young for me, I think, but very pretty, summery and effervescent. This is just the kind of thing you could give to a young girl and be confident that she'd like it. It's not too fruity, too trendy, or too syrupy - just sweet, fresh and youthful.

Agree with the other reviewers, it's smells like Lolita Lempicka's. Fortunately I loved LL and I didnt mind having the similar ones since I still able to find the difference kind of uniquness between these two ;)

Quite nice, smells really nice on my wife- very much as the notes listed by degree of prominence here. I can definitely see the brother/sister relationship between this and l'homme ideal.

I'm so glad I only ordered a sample of this. I was really excited to try La Petite Robe Noire but it was a disappointment from the first spritz. It is not an elegant perfume that would warrant a little black dress nor the price tag for a full bottle. On my skin it's sickly sweet cherry pie and almond extract. I imagine wearing this outdoors in the fall would make one a yellowjacket magnet. I enjoy the occasional gourmand but this one is not for me. This pedestrian scent was born from my beloved House of Guerlain? If it came from a celebrity perfume line I wouldn't have such high expectations. Surely it was conceived by their marketing department to pump sales from a teenybopper market. How sad. Excuse me while I go scrub this off and douse myself in Mitsouko to make everything better again.

This is definitely a gourmand. Vaguely reminds me of Lolita Lempicka, but this would be her younger sister, aspiring to becoming more like Lolita. I mainly smell cherries, but they are far too sweet to be interesting. I generally like sweet perfumes, but this is cloying, even for me. I find it has a distracting quality, keeping me going back to my wrist to smell it again ang again, but not in a good way. It just seems like too much. The same goes for the almond note. It is not an elegant almond scent, but a sort that reminds me of the artificial almond scent they use for confectionery sometimes. I'm sorry, but I don't like this.

This was a big NO for me. I blind bought this because so many review stated it was almond heavy. It was a big YouTube favorite at that time and I just knew I would love it. I love almond and other nutty scents in perfumes and was sure I would love it. She came in the mail, I tore open the packaging and sprayed myself down LOL! Welp....I hated it. All I smell is cherry, licorice, anise and powder. I was so disappointed. I pull this out a few times a year and wear it hoping it will grow on me. Sadly, I don't think that will happen.

I was given a sample of this and since I generally like Guerlain, I decided to try it. BIG mistake. No, no, no. I just cannot take this scent seriously. It should've been called La Petite Barbie Douce. It's cherry candy in a bottle. It makes Pink Sugar smell mature and sophisticated. I literally cannot stand smelling like this. And it lasts for bloody ever! How old is was Delphine Jelk when she created this syrupy mess? Six?

Judging on the variants that followed this one, the series must be one of Guerlain's most successful. Perhaps it's also their most commercial and this sense least original. It's hard to distinguish this one from other contemporary feminine fragrances aimed at younger women. I tried it several time and find it too sweet and bland. **

Similar to Delices by Cartier?hmm,couldn't find anything common in these 2 perfumes...For my nose it is close to Lolita Lempicka and Loverdose,may be because of licorice note.Not very gourmand

Don't like it. Too heavy and sweet for me. The overwhelming notes are cherry and liquorice with a vanilla background. Not me.

Based on the bottle and name I was expecting something darker and muskier. This is in fact quite sweet.

5 minutes of pure sweet almond taste, like a nauseating marzipan. And that's all.

I smell grapes. Why would I pay $100 to smell like grapes.

I must say that I agree Elixir Charnel Gourmand Coquin is better and more gourmand (its actually my #2 favorite fragrance). La Petite Robe Noir (The Little Black Dress) is now top 10 on my list of favorite fragrances of the moment and I have over 100. I tried this without reading any reviews or knowing anything about it and was completely blown away by it! My mom loved it on me so much she got it for me right away :) she said it smelled like violet candies, and I totally agree! I would have never guessed the notes on this perfume because on me it smells a lot like those violet candies you buy in europe with the anise center with a little vanilla (although violet is not a listed note). On first impression, this is all I smelled (violet candy). It may smell like candy, but it is more sophisticated than that and I do get a "guerlain" french feel to this. I did not smell the cherry or lemon, but after wearing a few times, I smell both. There is also some indiscernable pulpy fruit scent. This is mostly violet on me with hints of the other notes mentioned and maybe a bit of almond and tea. The more I wear it the more complex I find it to be, and I seem to be falling more in love with each spray. This fragrance is very nostalgic of my trips to france when I was younger, I always ate the violet candys and forever fell in love with the smell/taste of violet. It reminds me most of Killian's Cruel Intentions (which I also own and is very VIOLET on me), but KI is more of a true floral violet with a green quality and a woody, earthy base- La Petite Robe Noir is a sweeter, much more potent (but still complex) violet that I prefer. I am also a fan of Violet di Parma (single note sweet violet) and TF's black violet (violet chypre), but honestly this is my favorite. Funny that my Holy Grail violet perfume has no violet notes listed, but its true! It is by far the longest lasting of all of my violet scents. This is what I wanted Insolence to be, but the guerlian elixirs are much more special to me than most of the guerlains in every department store and very worth testing. The bottle is adorable and although $150 is a lot for a small bottle, it is still less expensive than many other fragrances I have in my collection and I think it is appropriately priced. I find it very long lasting and potent, which isn't usually the case with my chemistry, but this is the violet I have been wishing for, I almost feel that Guerlain made this just for me. It's just so close to perfection... I think chemistry plays a big roll in this so try before you buy :) I cannot stop admiring this, it is truly mesmerizing. I have read lots of negative reviews on other sites saying this is ripping off Chanel and stuff, but it seems like those reviewers had not even tried the actual scent- I have never smelled anything from Chanel remotely similar to this and people forget sometimes that ideas like "the little black dress" are timeless and going to be repeated, but the juice inside is unlike anything I have smelled before- and thats whats important. I'm completely addicted.

LPRN original LPRN was first launched as an exclusive fragrance, in the way they did with Mon Exclusif, with an accordingly rather high price tag attached to it. They tested the waters, checked the customers’ response. When they say how popular it was, they added it to their mainstream collection at a more affordable price and the flankers started sprouting. Just like the Mon Guerlain flankers now. They’re milking the cow until the last drop. The original LPRN (nose Delphine Jelk) is a fruity floral gourmand with notes of liquorice, raspberry macarons, vanilla, almond, rose, musk, tea and patchouli. I can also smell something almost like cherries, and a hint of something cool and fresh right after the initial spray. The base is solid with a wink towards the Guerlain DNA and that musk that Thierry Wasser adopted and is now famous for. LPRN is definitely a gourmand. Mind you, not the sticky syrupy kind, it’s more refined. It’s the forerunner, the mother of all the fruity floral gourmands that are flooding the market today. I’m not sure that this fragrance is the equivalent of a Little Black Dress though. Personally I find it too casual, not a fragrance I’d go for if I were to attend an event that requires a LBD. LPRN is a fun scent, targeted to a young(ish) audience. I wonder though if this was their original idea. I mean, look at the dress on the original bottle. I’m sorry but that doesn’t look like a dress for a young woman, it’s rather matronly. I’m guessing that as they realised that the LPRN consumer is young, they rejuvenated the dress design accordingly, adapted their ad campaign, and it’s done very cleverly: the colourful bottles, YOLO attitude ads with catchy music etc. I can understand how it appeals to girls and young women. Does that mean that LPRN is ONLY for the young crowd? Not at all. Fragrance is a personal choice and there’s no rule that says who should or shouldn’t wear what. GENDER AND AGE DO NOT DICTATE A FRAGRANCE CHOICE. And don’t let any SA or ad campaign tell you otherwise. IF YOU LIKE IT, WEAR IT 💖

From Guerlain who brought us such masterpieces as L'Heure Bleue Shalimar, Mitsouko, Nahema and Samsara comes The Little Black Dress. Well let me tell you this is not a scent you put on to wear with your best little black dress. Nothing formal about it, or complex. It's a light scented gourmand fragrance that has as short a life as Lady Gaga's Fame. The fragrance opens with citruses and a touch of almond. The rose in the heart is sweet but barely perceptible as it's taken over by licorice. Sweet macarons don't translate well into perfume and should stay macarons. The vanilla is good. The tea scent is also good. This needs a little more substance so I would have made it either fruitier with additional fruits even exotic ones like passion fruit, watermelon, guava, kava, or kiwi. At least that would have been something. This isn't bad it's just boring. I still have one bottle out of 2 I used. I remember putting this on when I couldn't make up my mind as to what fragrance to wear when I went out. Extremely light, inoffensive and turns into a skin scent. Pity it has such a short life. This is a fragrance for girls who are just starting out into the world of fragrance. I would never wear this now so I'm selling my 2nd bottle. There's nothing wrong with it's just that it has a ridiculously short life. It's like you have to wear this to school so that the boy sitting next to you thinks you're awesome LOL It's fun and innocent but I could have made this better even as a "fun" fragrance. I wish the tea note was stronger, I wish there were more flowers, more fruits and stronger patchouli. None of these notes are strong. It's like they've all been shrunk. It's a mini perfume to put into your backpack as you walk into class. I'm not one for labeling perfumes as being for certain age groups. Anyone who likes this scent can wear it at any age but it's clearly designed for girls who want to sit next to a boy they like while the teacher passes out the final exam LOL

If I were to blind sniff this, I'd never in a million years guess it was Guerlain. My first reaction to it, therefore, was a bit snooty. I turned my nose up and made some noises about the state of the fragrance industry these days. But then I realised I was being unfair - and kind of hispter-ish, ugh - so I gave it another shot. No, it's not like most Guerlain. It's a fruity gourmand, which we've seen many, many times before. But this one is well done. The liquorice is a fantastic addition that gives this a nice kick of attitude. The raspberry is very well done because it's there without being sickly or synthetic smelling at all. At 35, I feel like I'm a bit too old for this, but I can imagine a whole new generation of young girls falling in love with this as their first "proper" perfume. My first grown up scent was Guerlain (Samsara) and I love the thought that this could be that for today's young women. Guerlain has always been about very mature, complex scents, so I can understand that this one might make people shy away a little. But economics is what it is and Guerlain either moves with the times and encourages new customers through the doors, or it goes under and we get no more Guerlain. If we want the next Shalimar, Jicky, or Samsara, we need to appreciate that the company needs to make money. This, I would imagine, will make them money. So more power to them, I say (after saying exactly the opposite at first!) I think this is a great perfume to buy for your daughter. Or maybe just for you - there's no age limit to what you like in scents after all. Just a bit too fruity for my personal taste, so it's unlikely I'll ever buy a full bottle. But I do appreciate that it's a quality take on a now all too familiar scent trope and has its place amongst the rest of the house's products.

I waited for several months before this fragrance finally became available for testing in the Guerlain boutique near me. My expectations were high, and my prolonged anticipation and the fact that the scent was always sold out whenever I visited, led me to believe that it was going to be amazing. I wasn't blown away when the SA finally sprayed it on my wrist, nor was I truly disappointed. It is, as described, a fruity gourmand and it's very smooth, very cheerful, but not very Guerlain. This fragrance lacks in the vanilla drydown that Guerlain is so famous for and, at least on my skin, it lasted only for a couple of hours before fading away. The bottle is lovely and this scent may be original and rare enough to justify the steep price tag; nonetheless, I came to the boutique for a gourmand and what I left with was Elixir Charnel Gourmand Coquin - so much more original and seductive and well, gourmand! La Petite Robe Noir would be a great gift for a high school graduation or a sweet-sixteen birthday. It is very youthful and happy and fruity. The cherry and almond accords are smooth and more grown-up than expected, and the tea lends a smokiness to the feel of the perfume. Yet, I can't picture a sophisticated woman past the age of twenty-five wearing this scent. I imagine fans of Delices de Cartier will appreciate this one but if you're seeking out a gourmand and fruity scents aren't your forte, pass this one up and take a look at the Charnel Elixir line, or perhaps try Iris Ganache.

Today I got myself a bottle of this veerrry sweet and deliious juice. Yes, it smells almost like Flowerbomb Extreme, mixed with Lolita Lempicka but so much more sophisticated. Well, maybe I am a bit biased as a "Guerlinista" and I am almost 40 years old but this brings me back candy moments from my childhood and as I love sweets anyway I enjoy the almond-raspberry accord in here. The development of the scent has been described nicely here so I will not go much into it. My suggestion : if you like or love Flowerbomb and/or Lolita Lempicka ́s licorice fragrance I am very positive you will love LPRN. I am not quite sure, however, what the name has to do with its content. To me, the little black dress symbolizes the finest art of elegance and for that I would rather choose a "grown-up" scent such as Mitsouko but nonetheless...I have gotten used to ignoring perfume names and just enjoy the aroma :-) I have read many negative reviews on this perfume and I am not so much a gourmand frag lover myself but everybody needs a sweet treat once in a while, don ́t we ? :-) This one is a 6 / 10. Will not become a Guerlain icon and is not by far comparable to the wonderful "Oriental Brulant" (which I own as well) but at least costs only a fracture of OB and is nevertheless enjoyable on the days when I am suffering from the Peter Pan syndrome :-)

I wonder what the house of Guerlain had in mind when they came up with the name for this. Were they thinking of Audrey Hepburn; or were they thinking of a time when a little black dress was a staple of a woman's wardrobe? If you had a little black dress back in the day, you could dress it up with pearls and a wrap, or dress it down with a chunky chain and a jacket...you could wear it anywhere and never be out of place. Perhaps that is what they wanted LPRN to be...a perfume you could wear anywhere. I can't help feeling they missed the boat with this one. I like this perfume well enough. But, If I were going to go out in my little black dress, this would be the last Guerlain I would reach for. Little black dress = Shalimar, Mitsouko, Le H'eure Bleu...La Petite Robe Noir = lunch, football game - certainly not out to dinner with my husband. Certainly not to the theatre, nor any dressy occasion after 6 p.m. Maybe they should have named it little blue jeans.

La Petite Robe Noire The Little Black Dress This delicious perfume can be worn with a sexy little black mini dress or cocktail dress. Flirty, sweet, gourmand and edible. Nothing about it is mature or complex. This doesn't make a statement like Shalimar. It's a girly girl perfume with delicious notes of licorice, rose, almonds, and tea. Projection is light and it really suits my skin chemistry. Do you like sugar in your tea? This is a sweet little tea at a child's tea party. The first spritz is a dash of lemon and already the vanilla can be detected. There's rose and licorice in the heart. One patchouli leaf is all it takes to give it a puff of incense. I would have to say that this is wearable as both a casual day time scent to wear to work and as a flirty fun cocktail-dinner fragrance. It's a girl's night out perfume. I don't wear this to attract anyone. It's a perfume to wear when you want to mix and mingle and party. Sweetness in a bottle.

I have 5 x 1ml samples of this bought on Ebay. I had already whiffed it in Debenhams and instantly thought of Lancome's Tresor Midnight Rose and a memory of Dior Eau Svelte from years ago. The Midnight Rose was more recent though and it definitely smells like that. It smells a bit like a box of liquorice allsorts but I love it so I don't mind! The beauty of having spray samples is it's virtually impossible to spray too much on..and I reckon that if I did I would get a headache, as it is a heady concoction. I've always wanted a Guerlain fragrance as I'm drawn to them in shops but I cannot afford the bigger versions so samples online are a good substitute. I do wish more perfumes would come out as body sprays alongside the usual body lotions though as they are easier to apply. Dior Eau Svelte is a brilliant example although that is a body treatment fragrance rather than a perfume as such.

Just lovely!!! There is nothing not to like; it smells like candies, like very expensive candies, if I may say... like the macarons at the "Laduree". I don't think it is oriental at all, for me it's clearly gourmand. The first note I notice is the macarons, followed by vanilla, licorice and patchouli. The rest try to surface, but my nose barely catches them. My younger sister wears this (she is 24) and I like it on her. There is something "girly" about this scent, which is unexpected coming from Guerlain, but as always you recognize the quality, that all the perfumes by this great House share.

I'm confused,can anyone help me? I collect Guerlain Robe noir perfume family,I have LPRN edp,edt,intense one,couture and fraiche one,all are strong likes for me except LPRN intense which I love I'd really like to have this one too but it's sample or tester isn't available here and blindbuying is the only solution I want to know whether it's exactly LPRN edp in another bottle or is it different? they have some different notes,there's no cherry listed here and cherry is the most dominant note in LPRN edp, so they must have some differences but I see 61 one people find it similar to LPRN edp

Smells very much of licorice. Reminds me a lot of Lolita Lempicka, although it is much stronger. Lolita Lempicka is subbtler in every aspect. To me, licorice smells very gourmand, like a mixture of coffee and chocolate, and a bit more so in this fragrance than in Lolita Lempicka. This fragrance does have a twist, and a noitceable complexity, like Lolita Lempicka, althoough not so pronounced, and seems to be, from my viewpoint, quite well achieved. Personally, though, I do not like this type of scent, and am not fond of the scent of licorice in particular.

Just one word "CLASS" this fragrance has amazing memories for me - all connected with shopping at Harrods and discovereing LPRN at the Guerlain counter few years back!! Have been frantically searching for the same ever since- here in my wonderful city of Liverpool. The price back then was eye watering steep- but what I liked about it NO ONE else was wearing this wonderous perfume here in Liverpool(-;

I bought this with the advice of a sales assistant at the Duty Free. When first sprayed, it comes across as a cough mixture and could be a little bit off putting but the dry down is an amazing liquorice laced guerlainade. Similarilty with LL disappears after the first 20 minutes. This is a very well made and pleasantly wearable perfume with noticeable sillage and good lasting power

In general It seems that as time passes perfumes get worse and worse...really the best ones are still the older ones...the new generation of perfumes has nothing new to say.I do not judge petite robe noire as I only smelled it once from the bottle in a perfume shop because I was very curious about it...and ofcourse I did not like it.

I'm a Guy, and I own a bottle this fragrance. I've worn it like once or twice because I'm not as confident in wearing a perfume intended for Women. But I bought it simply because it smells good! This reminds me A LOT of Creed's Love in Black (a perfume for Women which I also own!) LOL.

my hubby bought me a bottle of this beauty for V day, he know's I am a Guerlain fan & this was the scent he liked best at the Guerlain counter & I am not dissapointed, I love it smell's very sweet but expensive sweet & very feminine, for me this is a spring/summer scent I think

This perfume is sweet and mildly sour at the beginning. Really playful and yummy. But after a couple of hours or the day after you used it, magic happens and it turns into nothing but LOLITA LEMPICKA!!! I just can't believe how two perfumes can be so identical..

Way too powdery for me. I bought a couple of samples and am glad that the investment was small. I did not smell the star anise at all. Just a rather formal powdery scent

this is a gift from friend so i am very surprised that I really like it. for me it is a sexy winter choice, young and sweet. good to wear with the little black dress :)

i asked my girlfriend to stop using this awful and cheap perfume for heaven sake!!!! can't bear this sticky cheap scent on her skin! a shame for the house of guerlain.
