Les Absolus d'Orient Bois Mystérieux

Bois Mystérieux by Guerlain is old-world masculine perfumery at its most ceremonial. This was an era when perfumery leaned heavily on resins, woods, and smoke to convey authority, status, and cultivated masculinity. The fragrance feels like an echo of that time, when scent was part of one’s posture and presence, not a decorative afterthought. The opening can be confronting. There is a sharp, almost austere woodiness that feels formal and severe, as if the fragrance is deliberately testing your patience. But this tension is intentional. Give it time, and the structure reveals itself. After the first hour, the composition settles into something profoundly warm and enveloping. Incense, woods, and resinous shadows begin to interlock, transforming the fragrance into a deeply comforting yet dignified presence. Wearing this alongside real incense, burned slowly and with intention, is revelatory. It carries itself with discipline, authority, and quiet confidence. A fragrance that does not chase attention, yet commands respect the moment it enters the room.

Updated updated review: Scratch what I previously said. This fragrance has smelled differently every time I have applied it. I'm trying to suss out the variables. Is it my skin chemistry/moisture, the air temperature/humidity, or simply my nose/brain? This fragrance isn't for everyone. I imagine it will change depending on the skin chemistry of the wearer. So far, at various times I've applied this, it smells heavily of leather in a not-so-pleasant way (like...fresh animal hide) with some cumin and laurel. In a word: stank. One hypothesis I have is that my nose quickly becomes anosmic to some of the chemicals in this, and I think others have mentioned this is as well. Hence, worth testing in different areas, concentrations, etc. Sometimes, this mysterious concoction sings, and it's when I'm able to detect the jasmine and neroli notes. That is the true magic, when it all comes together and every note feels harmonious. I seem to be able to detect those floral notes when applied to warmer areas, like the inner inner forearm, as opposed to "cooler" areas like my wrist, as my blood circulation there is poor. There is also some kind of chlorine note coming through. Sadly, the floral notes fade rather quickly--but when the leather and woods settle in, they seduce every so softly. For those who've tried this once and hated it, I recommend revisiting it several times. The small decant I purchased is almost gone. I gave in to the mysterious woods and actually bought a full bottle of this. The price of this on fragrancenet was more expensive than any other fragrance of the Les Absolus d'Orient line--am I insane? I don't know. I'm hopelessly addicted to this fragrance, for better or worse.

You may think that I'm overreacting and I don't like to say this word since people might think that I'm too easy to please, but honestly... Bois Mysterieux is a masterpiece. I hope it's not because of my bias for Guerlain or my mind playing tricks on me (since I think I love every single Guerlain fragrance I have tried so far), but Bois Mysterieux is really that good. It smells incredibly unique and beautiful at the same time. Best of all: it is *incredibly affordable* for what they offered. Bois Mysterieux is a rich, complex, warm, leathery, spicy, and slightly animalic fragrance. It has an intense combination of myrrh and leather with bay leaf, cedar, and patchouli in the background too. I also detect some woodiness here. Again, it is complex though. Quite hard to analyse the notes but I have to say that it's really pleasant for me. No need to worry about its performance though. Bois Mysterieux has a strong character and that kinda helps in boosting its performance. It is very long-lasting and projects heavily in the first 1-2 hours before being a bit more subtle (yes, a bit more subtle because this fragrance is quite loud). With that being said, it is still not safe for blind buy because of its uniqueness + loudness and some notes that might be off-putting to some people. It leans masculine and it smells mature. But heck, as long as you're confident enough, you can wear this no matter what gender you are or how old you are. 🤣 Highly recommended, for sure!

I keep coming back to this. At times, it repulses me with a harsh, rubbery, fungal/leathery note that is sharp and suffocating. Other times, it envelopes me in a holy mystery like opening a cedar box filled with jasmine, bay, and resinous incense. The bottle, I admit, sits on a shelf collecting dust as I find myself too scared to apply it, especially "out there" in the world. I think the olfactory experience, like all fragrances, is highly dependent on factors like skin chemistry/moisturization, air temperature and humidity. This one seems much more sensitive to those factors. I've tested in all seasons here in the midwest US where there are extreme seasonal temperature fluctuations. I find in the dry, cold air of winter the harsh rubbery note comes out more. When the air is warm and humid, the more pleasant floral and woody qualities are detectable. I sprayed this on my wrist a week ago and was gagging even during the dry down. I re-applied today after using unscented vaseline moisturizer on my skin and the experience of this fragrance was much more enjoyable. I encourage those who initially are challenged by this perfume to try it in various weather conditions, with or without moisturizer applied to the skin. Some might not have the patience for it, but for the money I paid for this, I'd like to at least try to get something pleasant out of it.

Not one to relish review writing I feel compelled to share my thoughts on this one. This more than any other fragrance has elevated my understanding of what it is to appreciate art in a bottle... This makes so many other fragrances I’ve appreciated feel like mono dimensional under-achievers. On first opening of this scent I am surprised by my own reaction. An overwhelming melancholic reflectiveness as distant memories and joys are evoked. Way before lockdown and before my current job I used to travel across Middle East and South Asia for work. The warm oriental glow of this fragrance brings it all back... luxury hotel lobbies in India decked with jasmine flowers wafting with smokey incense and spicy fragrances hanging in the air. The ever so faint background of cumin in the taxi (Hindustan Ambassador model of course) window down with warm air and incense floating through from the roadside temples. Expensive wood and leather interiors in company offices, airport lounges, meeting rooms and the rest. Only the best of things. The fragrance evokes all of these to me but this is delivered in the most smooth and refined way (I can see some may get hung up on a cumin like edge but it fits perfectly in my opinion). It doesn’t shout leather to me, rather oriental myrrh and woodiness. I struggle to put this fragrance into words. Magical.

Like one of the previous reviewers, I wondered if, in the very early opening, there was any rose in this one, as it reminded me of Santal Royal for a second. While I am usually not a fan of bay leaves in perfumes (Lutens Ambre Sultan), here it blends fantastically with the saffrony cedar (the main player during the opening), and thefloral notes, giving an overall impression of warm oud. This is what heaven smells like. The drydown is a little more classic: cumin, patchouli, myrrh and the omnipresent saffron accord will give an impression of spicy leather, not without remotely reminding Hermes Bel-Ami. Despite being classic, it is still at the masterpiece level. The wood and myrrh blend are giving an impression of warm oud more realistic than some other fragrances which state to use oud. Projection is good in the first couple of hours, but could last longer. (That said it's still detectable as a subtle skin scent after 12hrs, thus total longevity is good) I have never smelt Songe d'Une Nuit d'Ete, and assuming these are similar, I understand why it was a legend. Thierry Wasser hit again. A masterpiece on which I'll get my hands on, as soon as it hits discounters or ebay (in a year or two). Colder evenings, 30+ Edit: did a side-by-side test with Songe. They are exactly identical.

Imagine horseback riding in a cedar forest - this cedarwood & leather-oud with spicy aromatics will get you there. It took a minute for me to get my bearings with this one, and definitely a winter-only wear for me. Opens with a fresh-spicy & aromatic burst of laurels & neroli, that deepens into an oud-wood & patchouli heart with animalic touches from jasmine, all resting on a leather saddle & myrrh base. Overall I get a shades of wood & leather blend that's distinguished by an aromatic & fresh spicy opening, and spicy myrrh in the drydown. The patchouli here lends earthy support to the leather but not taking over. The laurels & myrrh here give me distant reminders of Ambre Sultan Serge Lutens but this isn't a dupe - it's more woody & less sweet & amber-y than Ambre Sultan. Well above average performance with unisex leaning masculine scent profile. It's a love for me. Best in winter. Enjoy! Update 10/29/24: Sprayed this on an arm today as it's cooler weather out. It's aged beautifully, and become richer, woodier & more aromatic. This is very complex and enjoyable, but not blind buy safe. An oversimplified comparison would be a layer of Ambre Sultan over a layer of Interlude Man Amouage. Each time I spray it I love it more. Still a love, obviously.

One of my greatest perfumed regrets is not buying Songe d'un bois D'Ete, the glorious smelling Guerlain presented in a beautiful flacon. It's not a unicorn by any means and still widely available online but it's a bit pricey I thought. Price shouldn't be a factor when it smells this good...Fantastic then that Bois Mysterieux is very similar smelling, I think you get more volume and the price is more reasonable...Although I haven't checked my Oud Essencial was about £120 for 125ml I recall? So if it's around that point it's a bargain! The opening is a stunning oriental incense that instantly transports you to the far east, it's magical. Has nuance of cumin and caraway, anise and licorice, powerful but with a lightness of touch, elevating it to the very highest level. The myrrh is sweet, but has some bite, the body of the scent is creating a smooth leathery, woodsy effect and hint of warm animal musk. Describing notes in this fragrance is a little reductive because of the expert balance and transition of accords into one cohesive master work. This fragrance is an absolute delight. What a treat it is and has to be top priority on my purchases list.

This is so complex, and so stunning! When I fist smelled this on a close friend, I was definitely intrigued by how unique this aroma was. The opening definitely has prominent laurels. They smell deep and green like they were just rained on next to damp soil. It has an oiliness to the scent, like oil paints (not in texture, but in smell), but in a very good way! Then it becomes so spicy! It's like cumin, and a lot of people say its cumin, but it is not listed on Fragrantica:( Nevertheless it is a strong dry cumin backed up by strong cedar, making it woody and a little piney. It is, for lack of better words, ferocious! There is definitely an animalic quality, but it is not overwhelming. It makes the perfume, in my opinion, very sexy. After an hour-hour and a half, it begins to calm down and it rests on this sweet and a little smokey myrrh. It becomes a soft (but still prominent smelling) aroma that I find very cuddlable. I think anyone who loves this scent can wear it, but I see a confident Middle Eastern/Mediterranean Man with dress pants and a half buttoned shirt wearing this. It's a really unique scent that I have grown to adore!

The best in the absolus d'orient line! Unfortunately discontinued, could have been my signature scent. It opens big, mature, dark, woody, slightly spicy, rounded, at the same time a bit skanky, very sexy. You won't go unnoticed wearing this perfume. The leather is gorgeous. I bought it to replace Bel Ami which is now a mere ghost of what it used to be. The scent profile is different, but something in the leather and in the uniqueness of the scent connectd them in my mind. I don't get any cumin or "body odor" note, but hey if poeple could have such a body odor I would be very glad to take the Subway. The perfume doesn't really make me think of a mysterious wood, it rather has a "daddy" profile, the dad being at the same time very loving but playful, extraverted, always has a story to tell and he is seductive, but he ain't no cheater. Feels like a hug from your best friend. One of my top 3 perfumes. Don't understand what Guerlain is doing, why they discontinue such gems, and as a retorsion, I won't be buying any Guerlain in my life unless they give us back BM, even if I know they couldn't care less.

TL;DR: Fabulous, and unwearably animalic in the public. OPENING: Opens like a rich green, gorgeous camphoric forest. If the bay leaf does that, I need to look at bay leaf scents more. MID: I had accustomed to "cedar" being the usual boring note of cashmeran/Iso E, but this reminded me of how wonderful and aromatic real cedarwood oil smells. BASE: Sadly the cumin starts to smell very animalic. They mention leather, but it doesn't remind me of leather at all. More myrrh, I still occasionally get that wonderful forest, but mostly this smells like a large, stressed-out rodent. (Do capybaras sweat?) It's still interesting. But I fear people won't imagine I'm wearing cologne, they think I need to take my body odor to a shower. So this progresses from "Fabulous!" to "Wonderful" to "Ehm... easy there, cowboy." Even though I wouldn't get it for myself, I still find Bois Mysterieux a unique and brilliant piece of perfumery. I rated it a Like but as some time has passed I realize I still keep thinking about this. It is special. Rated Love. An unwearable Love? That's my first.

Guerlain - Bois Mysterieux This I believe has been discontinued. A beautiful herbal and neroli opening followed by a cedar heart with animalic touches from leather and musks in the base. It opens up quite aromatic but maintains a significant sillage not enormous but quite noticeable. This has a healthy dose of cumin so I guess if you are a fraghead you know which side you’re on with cumin. I find this to be the most unique of the Les Absolou D’Orient line and probably the most divisive if you want something as appealing both less divisive try Cuir Intense. As for gender I believe most fragrances today can be worn by both genders however there are some fragrances that are on the extreme side of masculinity or femininity in this case it is extremely masculine. Definitely test and sample but at discounted prices not to be missed. Likely to become a classic and sell for multiple times the current prices at discounters.

Dear fragheads, I seriously am at a loss for words to describe this fragrance, its just amazing, truly a work of art! Don’t be put off by the initial spray cause its really strong and might give you a headache, distance yourself a bit (i always spray on my forearm so i can wave my arm around and see how it smells in the air) after a few minutes this scent turns magical, its definitely a head turner and shows its power in the air and not so much/ too strong when you smell it directly off your skin. I see some people don’t have the right skin chemistry for this so i guess im lucky it works wonders off of mine. I got it for super cheap off the internet as its almost double the price at perfume shops and cant be found at many so it was a blind buy for me, im glad i took the risk. This is easily gonna be one of my three signature fragrances and im a super choosey person. My overall rating for this beauty is a 15/10!

Mmmm. Why hello, dirty. Skipping straight to the cedar, patchouli and jasmine notes on my skin, this juice, particularly in the dry down phase, has a sweet, intimate, creamy smell that belies its initial harshness. It’s a perfume for people who have—and can keep—secrets. It feels appropriate to wear it now, having lived a little bit more than, say, a decade ago. It’s a fragrance for people who know what they want, know what they like—nothing ambiguous about it. The cedar, patchouli, woody notes max out almost immediately, leaving a soft scent that smells like skin that has been kissed for hours. On my clothes and in my hair, it’s longevity is incredible: next day, morning after, perfect. 8 hours? Absolutely. Worn with smoky scents, like LUI (Guerlain), it’s a gorgeous, fierce mix of notes that have made it the scent I’m wearing day and night. Night and day. Sillage: 9/10 Longevity: 9/10

Gogerix review made my entire day. I’m dying. 🤣 I first smelled this in a perfumerie at Disneyland at least 5 years ago. I was immediately enamored by its very aggressively elegant nature. Intensely camphorous, almost ash-like. Slightly animalic leather. Dry cedar wood. A little brash overall. But an intriguing damp, sweet and resinous resonance grounds the scent thanks to myrrh and patchouli. Fast forward to today, after years of having it capture and recapture my interest, I finally picked up a bottle, and I’m re-experiencing it for the first time in some time as I write this. Just wow. This is not for the feint. It is a confident scent personality. It is not for those hoping that others will validate their choices by way of a compliment. You may not be told “you smell good”. But if you are one of those who loves this and wears it for that reason, trust me. You smell great.

Completely unsurprised this was discontinued - to sniff directly this is nuclear animalic spicy camphory woods and almost medicinal, but the silage is beyond anything else I've encountered..... wafts of some unearthly irresistible resinous incense get blown about by the breeze and if you can find a way to wear it lightly without smelling it directly you're golden and spend half the night being astonished when a bit hits you. Not suitable for close quarters indoors this is for events, galas and black tie - perhaps some opera in the park or a view above the city at night. Leans wintery but doesn't do the trick right in real cold. Not subtle. There's no way I'll get through my bottle, but glad to have it. Only fragrance that's got an audible "wow" at distance even though I don't wear it often at all.

This one is wild. Not nearly as tame as Cuir Intense, the animalic notes in this one are prominent and leather takes a back seat. At first spray, this is almost pungent. Although there’s no musk or civet in the concoction, the animalic notes are there at the top and remain throughout its stay on your skin, albeit less “in your face” after a while. I think this is achieved with the perfect blend of Patchouli, Myrrh, and Laurels. As it dries, it becomes more sensual. The leather notes begin to appear. The cedar becomes more dry and woody. And the spices shine a bit more. It’s elegant, but polarizing. Sexy and mysterious. And very, very exotic. I wouldn’t recommend this as a blind buy, but fortunately I’ve never smelled a Guerlain fragrance I didn’t love, so I personally went for it.

Just on my initial all-day wear of this fragrance and I can't help but think this reminds me of Serge Lutens Muscs Koublai Khan...can't see any obvious connection via the listed notes for both but there's a cumin-like or musk-like effect here with Guerlain Bois Mysterieux that definitely brings to mind, SL MKK...perhaps not as in-your-face as the SL MKK but definitely there...I'm also getting very similar sexual innuendos found in both fragrances...kinda thinking the Guerlain Bois Mysterieux is somewhat more wearable in the sense that it's not as provocative (some might say "obnoxious") as the SL MKK...I must admit I'm really loving this Bois Mysterieux thus far and am really curious to see what the late-game dry down is all about?...more about this fragrance later...stay tuned!

The presence of this fragrance, can't be unseen.very unique and confident scent,it grabbs attention easily,while staying a daring fragrance which combines leathery,earthy,spicy aspects.Dont go heavy on sprayer 3-5 sprays is more than enough,cause the projection on this one is wild. Wear it on Special fragrance for night outs or special events,It will make u appreciate the scent even more than wearing it casually, because at this point the fragrance will get too heavy and less accepted by other people. This fragrance made my winter more enjoyable and exciting,cause of the vibes that it gives during cooler season(Sophisticated,elegant,bold). Gotta thank my cousin for this special gift.😜

Guerlain "Bois Mysterieux", It was a recent discovery for me and it instantly became a top-five Guerlain fragrance. A guilty pleasure and favorite of mine. Spicy oriental scent that starts with cumin and saffron. Then comes leather and patchouli. In the drydown, I get some oud and dry myrrh. Its not an easy fragrance until you get comfortable, it need 2-3 sample try prior going with full ware. once you get used to, you will love it. My top 3 from Les Absolus d'Orient series: 1) Bois Mystérieux 2) Encens Mythique & Santal Royal 3) Patchouli Ardent Scent: 9/10 Silage: 7/10 [ 2+ Feet radius] Longevity: 8.5/10 [ 4+ Hrs afterwards it stays as a skin scent] Bottle: 8/10 Price: 8/10

I heard so many positive reviews about this Guerlain bottle from their Oriental line and I heard they discontinued it. So I blind bought a bottle at a great price. Glad I did. It is one of the best from this line of fragrances. It is growing on me. Patchouli and cedar is my take on this bottle. I love it and will reflect it here. Just yes!...prior post. I agree! The holy laurels gives this lift and protection. Wasn’t sure what the spicy lift was but laurel must be the heft. The myrrh gives so much protection. Beautiful. Laurel leaves I forage in the past. Aggressive oils. Goes well with protecting cepes or porcini from bugs and pests ten years or more.

Guerlain Bois Mysterieux is one of my highest-ranking favorite fragrances. I tried it for the first time last year, and I immediately loved it. It's one of the best fragrance discoveries I've had so far as a fragrance enthusiast. I don't think it's a challenging fragrance. I don't think the cumin aspect of it is as prominent as some people make it seem like. I think that cedar is the most prominent aspect of this fragrance, and the cedar in this is very realistic. It has some other aspects too, but if you love cedar, then you might love Bois Mysterieux. I think Bois Mysterieux has an attractiveness that is somewhat similar to Guerlain Heritage EDT.

So in my first review of Bois Mysterieux (February 2023) I called this my first "unwearable Love". I'd gone through a tiny sample, found it amazing but just way too animalic and demanding, borderline offensive. But I found I kept thinking about Bois Myst. So last winter I bought a 10ml decant. Went through it. It was still so hard to wear but I wanted to. I was captivated by it. And this spring I bought myself a full 125 ml bottle of Bois Mysterieux. I still love it, but it's no longer unwearable. I wear it by myself, for myself. I'm not surprised it didn't become a big seller, but I'm very happy to own a supply to last decades.

Mysterieux- In the sense that you play russian roulette with your skin type. I smelled it on 3 people, and it varied from moldy cheesy chlorine heavy myrrh to a full beautiful stale flower water from a 2 week old vase. It smells like nothing else, and even in the worst cases I enjoyed it's funkiness. It conjures the first day of school in second grade. The woods, the myrrh, the flowers around combining with anxiety induced cold morning sweats of a whole classroom. Maybe someone's having a cracker for breakfast a few meters from you. There's a chlorine vibe to this as well but nothing remotely unpleasant. Get this for yourself.

I guess this is one of the most gorgeous fragrance I have ever smelled it is a hate or love fragrance no one stands in the middle and says mehh. This is an oriental fragrance that is loud and crowd makes you noticeable, it is not overwhelming as thier is some ppl don't like it. In my opinion those who are into fragrances will definitely appreciate that piece of art. Only amature, noob regular people find it skinky. I will definitely rceommed it. Performance----- Longevity = 24+ h Projection= 9/10 Sillage = 9/10 Uniqness=10/10 except its sister songe d'un d'te Sense= 10/10 Bottle= 6/10 Sprayer = 10/10 Price =6/10

It's a very dense or concentrated fragrance, would smell better in someone's/the users trail/sillage. Starts off very strong almost has a pungent and bitter-astringent scent profile like that of spices, less is more and for me it's better on skin than on clothes as the sillage gets more delicate and alluring that way. Once it settles, it reveals a resinous slightly sweet myrrh, the sweetness may be supported by a jasmine. The patchouli reminds me very much of Guerlain Heritage, making the scent quiet masculine. Has a woody facet to it as well and the leather fills up the fragrance giving it an animalic facet.

This is an interesting and unusual perfume. I've been testing it for several months on and off and it changes so much that sometimes I have wafts of a really nice smell and only later realise it is me. On a men's skin it might be very sexy, on my skin I wouldn't say it's sexy but it definitely makes me want to sniff myself constantly. I guess it is one of those fragrances that smells better when it is not smelt too close to the skin if that makes sense. For a very long time I wasn't sure if I like it or not but right now I love it so much that it became my favourite out of the entire collection

Starts off differently than I expected. A little green, with a dry sweetness. It gets a little animalic, but nothing excessive or off-putting. It just adds another layer of character. Woody resins and leather in the drydown with a darker earthiness, from the patch, I'm assuming. This fragrance has some depth and some mystery. It's not going to be an easy wearing, blue fragrance type of experience, but the most interesting scents, at least to me, are those that not everyone can agree on. You will not smell like everyone else when you're wearing Bois Mysterieux. I love it!

One of my favorite top 10 colognes if I had to choose 10. Notes I pick up are Saffron, Leather, Laurels, Myrrh,Cumin, Cedar and Patchouli. It's excellent and spicy. Is this polarizing? Yes. Do not blind buy this. Get a sample first. It's well worth the price. My neighbor smelled this on me and loved it .She really liked it. Describes it as a Woody, Leather Spicy.

An absolutely beautiful, exceptionally sophisticated fragrance, but I don’t understand why it is described as a leather fragrance, when first and foremost it is, as the name suggests, dominated by a sensational woody accord. The leather becomes more apparent in the dry down, but to my nose it emerges from a warm and resinous bed of cedar, myrrh and saffron. Where Bois Mysterieux truly shines is the way it floats in the air around you, the sillage is intoxicating and utterly sublime, and has elicited many compliments. 10/10

Arguably the best myrrh fragrance! Bois Mystérieux is such a clash of notes with a wonderful outcome. You have medicinal leather & bitter myrrh, clashing with green patchouli & laurels, and then comes jasmine & his little brother neroli to smoothen things out. The outcome is myrrh/leather combo with touch of green and jasmine. Medicinal & woody yet green & tender, almost uplifting. Like petrichor reinterpreted. Warmly-embracing cold weather wear, more suitable for the mature men. "Love"

Incredible fragrance! This is not a blind buy in my opinion. Very animalic which usually lends to me either loving or hating it. Thierry Wasser does an excellent job with this scent by somehow not making the leather notes overpowering. The jasmine and cedar come through lifting this scent to higher elevations of mysteriousness. No doubt, when wearing this people are going to ask you what you're wearing; however, that doesn't imply they're asking because they love it.

The type of person who doesn't wear perfume to please others around. That's who I imagine would like to wear this and I mean it in a very good way. Expect good comments from people who are into higher-end things in life. This is dry and far from a seducer. Green laurel in the opening with dry cedar and leather during the drydown. Myrrh is used to create the leather accord. This is art and not an accessory that you're missing in your outfit. Wear this with confidence!

@Andy Ah one of the many members who truly believe that if someone has a differing opinion, then they must be getting paid for it in some way. I used the original a few years ago and one spray was plenty for the day, and could smell it one my shirt for days. This one I’ve already done multiple test last evening becauae it kept wearing off to the point nobody could smell it. It has different performance, I have nothing to gain by saying that, and get over yourself.

Sultry and solemn Oriental (picture an orgy at an embassy lol), feels like perfume proper in conception. I love it so much, but I hate that it has been stripped of exclusivity as it's now relegated to the ordinary line. Edit: Songe d'un Bois d'Été gives me unparalleled satisfaction, so my quest for the holy grail is over! Oops, it seems I've found another grail -- Ambre Nuit. Edit: Yet another -- Amouage Lilac Love, damn, now, FM Iris Poudre blew me away.

Wow.. This stuff is magic. But be careful, I would say this is for experienced noses only! I own Songe d'un Bois d'Été but I don't want to wear it too often since the juice is so precious, and so that's why I got the Bois Mystérieux too. To my nose the differences are almost unnoticeable, perhaps the Bois Mystérieux is lacking those bittersweet characteristics from the cardamom and saffron, however in the dry down they're literally indistinguishable.

My god... what an absolute stunner!!! I quite simply haven't come across anything like this before. A rare kind of masculine scent that is easily unisex. Just wow... simply blown away. Bravo Thierry Wasser and Guerlain this is a masterpiece. 1.Will have to investigate the orginal that this is a reformulation of and sample it. 2. Sample the rest of this line. 3. Have blind bought Cuir Intense on first sniff of this. It's that good. Ifra = rubbish.

A dazzling, fruity, woody, dirty, delicious scent in the ugliest bottle imaginable. I don't get the animalic thing others mention here, but rather a dirty patchouli vibe somewhere between Héritage and Patchouli Ardent. I must admit I haven't worn it too much, as I see it as quite esoteric and perhaps a bit challenging for general consumption, but I often wear it to bed, and I think I'm working up the boldness to pull it off in real life.

If you fell in love with Songe d'un Bois d'Été and mourning its lack of availability, weep no more, Bois Mystérieux is pretty much the same with a slight tweak, I could be imagining it but Bois’ opening is slightly more citrus...maybe a mere nuance of bergamot, which makes it fresher at the start. But that’s it, it’s near identical which is how I wanted it since I have 3/4 of a bottle of Songe left and no hope of a back up...until now.

Shocks me that people thinks this smells like a dirty unwashed person. If only I naturally smelt like this after the gym. I get a warm earthy, woody spice aroma. I find it to be less intense than other fragrances and I find I need to spray a bit of it. It is a nice staple winter fragrance, but not sophisticated enough to wear to an event. I am glad the price tag runs a little lower than other houses with similar products.

Did side by side test at Guerlain store in Paris: both fresh juices, no differences (or utterly minimal - if one really wants to find anything...). Both were projecting for 3-4 hours, lasting for 12+ hrs. Comparing a frag with memories doesnt make any sense. Sorry if you got a bad bottle, or if your skin eats frags. Also, I wore BM yesterday evening, and could still smell it when I woke up. Please, no personal attacks.

You would do well to heed your own advice. I stated my opinion, then you arrive with a slanderous statement which has no merit, to try and discredit my opinion, just becaus it is not the same as yours. You have the personal attacks, not I. Wow! This is very nice! I've been sampling tons of fragrances lately, and this is unlike anything else I've come across so far. It's warm, dry, exotic, spicy, mysterious. It brings to mind my trip to Egypt: Dry sand, wafting spices, a touch of woodiness... a sort of ancient, ancestral nostalgia. It's difficult to put the overall effect into words. There is a comforting magical quality about it.

I love this beauty. The myrrh, bay leaf, leather and wood notes work so well together. Very well blended. I don't know how it happens but there is something about this scent that makes me think of amber gris. It's a warm scent that wraps itself around you. Bang on unisex. A cool weather scent. It would be too potent in the heat! I get moderate longevity and sillage in this chilly environment.

I would place Bois Mysterieux somewhere between Anubis and Au Coeur du Desert in a constellation of dry, woody scents which seem to interpret a Middle Eastern/Northern African fantasy in way which evokes equal parts National Geographic, 1940's film noir and ancient legend. The mood is moonlit sand dunes, starry skies and rustic camps at high altitude mountain passes between deserts.

My first impression was "is this a santal royal twin brother!?" That sweet cinnamon/rose/oud opening give that felling of santal royal even in the dry down steel smell SR, but anyway masterpiece released by guerlain,others says this is a songe d'un bois in new packaging design,i've never smelt that one so i don't know, Thierry wasser never miss. Well done guerlain

This fragrance might succeed as the very very first to end my forever war with patchouly! It reminds me of Byredo Accord Oud but way more refined and actually not bitter (plus obviously minus any fruit). Nice masculine fragrance yet totally wearable on my skin. Beautiful scent bubble. When I shower my skin smells like camp fire. love

Truly my favourite from the whole series. To me, it reminds me of mossy soil, of going to the roots. A very elegant yet overpowering scent, absolutely addictive. One time a lady with a boy at the supermarket commented on the Smell and I found it pretty funny. As someone who tends to overspray I definitely went too far this time.
