Les Absolus d'Orient Patchouli Ardent

Another huge success for this line in the sense that it's Wasser delivering an exquisite fragrance, truly. However, I'm not going to give it a glowing appraisal for a couple of reasons. The main one being that I was expecting patchouli ardent to show us some exciting and dominant take on patchouli, perhaps a little naive of me to think that Guerlain would all of a sudden stray from keeping things friendly and aesthetically, just so. I kinda did though. So I'd say I actually like this one better than one I own from this line, the oud, which to me is fairly uneventful (never bland), but plugs into the whole comforting aspect of why I like a nice, minimal musk fragrance for example, it's unobtrusive and I'm unlikely to get fatigued by it. Patchouli ardent does definitely have an earthy patchouli lean to it in the start of the fragrance but it seems like it's such an amalgam of some of the others in this line, a thread running from the musc and amber right through encens and bois. So really patchouli ardent is a musky, rose fragrance with a kind of heady, airy, incense trail, darkened by a shade of patchouli, mainly manifesting when you first spray it. Like I said it's glorious, lovely, lasts forever & all that stuff but there's just no pleasing some people (me sometimes) and I'd hoped for more patchouli, and something I could gush over and need in my collection. I wanted a hyped up, muscular, Givenchy Gentlemen or Zino Davidoff re-imagined and elevated to the level of this collection not just from a quality standpoint (because frankly it hits that high water mark) but from a creativity point of view too. If you call it patchouli I want to bludgeoned with patchouli in some sense, and this didn't do it. Is it good? Yes it might even be great! Would I buy it? probably not. I will investigate this further because I shouldn't keep writing reviews based on spraying it on my wrist once, and I will concede that you can only get to know a fragrance properly through wearing (multiple times if possible) but also sometimes you have to respect that when someone has tried a lot of perfumes their intuition is pretty good and they can extrapolate out the full experience (not always accurately) but most of the time a fragrances destiny is sealed from that first few hours of trying on skin.

Patchouli Ardent is not what you would think it is. Honestly I don't smell much patchouli at all. I find this to be a woody rose scent, emphasis on the rose. With lots of woods and incense and darkness. I'll try to describe the progression as best as I can. Thank God the fig is green, airy, and even fruity. It's not dense and coconutty at all-- I hate that kind. It's so green in fact that I detect a hint of pear skin around the edges. Very light and green. Soon the incense starts to thread through, and a rose emerges that is waxed smooth, so soft, with fruity flints of pink pepper added and hints of the cedar that remains throughout the wear. The rose shows only one aspect at a time, first it's a smooth woody rose with a hint of fruit and incense, then it warms up and becomes more woody with cedar chips, then it gets a hint spicy earthy, and only then do I feel like the patchouli shows up. It's still soft though and adds a bit of earthy greenery to the roses. Even further along the rose becomes more spiced with black pepper, even though supposedly it's a top note. With the black pepper hint of patchouli spicy rose you are at the base, which is extremely woody with the remaining cedar, sandalwood, and a hint of leather and incense. I love woody perfumes and this really hits the spot. The woods never smell like iso e super or artificial dryer sheet at all, just heaps of cedar, incense, sandalwood, and some earthy green patchouli to round it all out. Under the rose that changes shape through the long wear of Patchlouli Ardent. This wears close but lasts forever. It's currently reasonable priced on the grey market at about $100 less than retail...if you like dark, sultry, sexy woody fragrances I think this would work on anyone, it's not particularly feminine even though the rose is the star of the show. I highly recommend this! Now why did Guerlain call it Patchouli Ardent, and leave the sandalwood out of the pyramid?

Patchouli Ardent Guerlain Patchouli Ardent Guerlain is a 2020 creation under House Guerlian's Les Absolus d'Orient Collection which now features 9 creations. The oriental fragrance composition opens with a blend of pink and black pepper and fig. The heart is dominated by patchouli, Turkish rose, and cedar, while the base is made of leather and musk. Top notes: pink pepper, black pepper, fig Middle notes: patchouli, Turkish rose, cedarwood Base notes: leather, musk I have on hand a batch 2022/05 bottle. This is a rather linear fragrance with the Les Absolus d'Orient Dna. Those of you who have owned other Les Absolus d'Orient creations will know this Dna which exists in the few bottles under the collection I have. It's projectivity and silage is pretty awesome. Enclosed spaces will feel the power of it. Open area everyone will get to smell this. It's opens with a green juicy fig and peppers, very nice and not so sweet but you also get a very heavy and intense rose and a heavier musk, the earthy patchouli surprisingly isn't the main star and it isnt heavy but instead you get the woody cedar leathery supporting the rose with the patchouli acting as a smaller brother to the rose. The drydown of woody leather and heavy also musk doesn't outperforms the woody rose patchouli and blends in well. It's a stunning masterpiece under the collection but on a first wear it won't replace my favorite Encens Mythique. This should retails for 260USD at Guerlain's website. It comes in a nice blue box and a lovely guerlain styled dark blue bottle and a gold cap with dark blue gold centered striped ribbon. A collection to add if you fancy the composition and like heavy intense woody rose patchouli scents.

A really nice woody rose. Hints from the same line of Oud Esential and Bois Mysterieux, but only hints. It's a dark hardwood rather than oud, and there's just an undercurrent of cuminy/spice/body funk early on, presumably from the leather and musk. A juicy fig note briefly, then a bright rose for a long time on my skin. That tails off as the patchouli creeps in more, but really it's a wood note that partners the rose with patchouli in the background. It finishes on me after many hours as a very pleasant wood base with a touch of leather. Seamless transition through these three distinct stages of fig/rose; rose/wood; wood/leather, with patch floating around throughout. This suits me fine. Btw, to me, Declaration d'un Soir (spicy rose) is a fizzier, funkier/spicier, livelier rose in a generally lighter, more vibrant fragrance overall. Love the rose&BO/cumin in that one, here in Patchouli Ardent (woody rose), I get a lower-level but much more persistent smooth wood with the body-effect only briefly in the top. Both great rose frags, but significantly different to my nose.

..... stunning fragrance... but only if you can handle it for more than 20/30 minutes. If you can get past the first 30 minutes before trying to scrub it off,.. you’ve done great,, now just give it another 20/30 minutes for it to calm down and you’ll soon be on your way to a very pleasant wearing experience. . It’s not listed ,.. but I pick up a very well balanced ambroxin note that keeps this playful, Not juvenile playful. , more Grown Man playful. Not for the mild , meek, and tamed crowd. If you’re not a confident individual, this fragrance will be wearing you. If you're the type of person that believes you can do anything you set your mind to & do it well, then this could be blind buy safe. If you question yourself and the reality that surrounds you, I would recommend testing first. If you have an unwavering sense of adventure than this is definitely for you,.. what are you waiting for?

The first spray is a Bomba en mi, full force black pepper, identical output to Arabian Nights Private Collection Woman Jesus Del Pozo. There is no oud in the note list, but I would swear I can smell it, which is not very pleasant to me, because I hate oud. In 10-15 minutes it calms down to a pretty pretty rose on leather. The duration is eternal and the projection is really good. It is a perfume for daytime outings in the open air, or at night in airy places or with a large public. When drying it can be much more suitable for intimate encounters, but at least two hours must have passed since the first spray. It's unisex ,will get a lot of compliments wearing this but you have to get used to the scent first, a swatch on your wrist won't give you an idea of how fantastic this can be ❤️. I don't understand how nobody else can get Patchouli here. The drying is completely patchouli.

Lovely and distinctively French, so wait for the dry down to revel in it. Don't worry, the dry down is just the beginning due to its longevity. Rose comes through but the cedar and pink pepper keeps it sharp rather than velvety as you’d expect with a patchouli. The fig, I’m iffy about fig, it’s either fruit or leaf mush in my opinion. This Fig is veiled and quite lovely. I do get patchouli in the middle but I didn’t really get it as a CLEAR note until much later... talking 5 hours later, the musk and leather came forward much sooner. Sillage is head turning but but in a way that make you say “what is that?” As apposed to “WHO is that?!”. It’s been 24 hours and it just now faded.

Got it from my mother, said she didn't need it. Very interesting, you smell the pepper, the spiciness, then the dry down is of the middle notes, rose and patchouli with a nice cedar smell. For the price, it is pretty nice if you find a good deal on it, for around 150-200$ it does well, lasts pretty long and projects like crazy. I tend to reserve this for more formal occasions or outings where I should impress, wearing it makes you feel real fancy, which is odd, considering I've worn other perfumes and have only had a similar experience with Oud. 9.5/10, not for everyone, but it is just wonderful.

A wonderfully layered experience, it's a captivating fragrance that stands out in all the right ways.

This is the strongest most unashamed patchouli scent I've sampled in a few years. It's rich and loud and sticks with you for many hours. While the patchouli takes front and centre, I've got to say it's got a balmy, herbal sweetness to it, probably the plum and rose, that keeps it from being too harsh and instead gives it a soft seductiveness. The imagine that appeared in my head when I tried it was that of a seductive sorceress in the middle of the forest. Totally adore it. Seduction in a bottle

Absolutely amazing juice! It has the Guerlain Absolus d'Orient DNA all over it (sweet smooth resinous ambery leather), very oriental but smooth, classy, elegant. The sillage is mindblowingly great, sweet oriental resinous patchouli fig. It has a bit of a jammy quality that is often found in Amouage fragrances (see: Jubilation Man). Not by much, just a touch of that sweet jammy vibe. Thierry Wasser has outdone himself again. One of the best oriental releases ever! 9 / 10

My first impression was a distant forrest fire next to a strawberry farm, it caught my attention as soon arrived a boozy plum and spicy note which reminded me of a Costume National opening. This really is interesting and radiating as it reminds me of walks by pepper and fig trees on a hot summers day. Dries down to a creamy wood note and stays for a good 8 hours. It’s as though Guerlain made me a signature scent for a fraction of the price 10/10.

Omg. I love it . Dark intense Oriental. Sexy , expensive, it reeks, luxury . I love making a statement with my perfume . I lover heavy scents . She's sultry , nose catching , beautiful scent. If you love having a aura of scent around you then buy. If you love line this line , I do! She a must for your collect . When to wear..? When ever you like ! I wore it, on a day out with my grown up sons, I smelt divine .

Refined, luxurious and bold. One of the few Middle Eastern leaning perfumes I enjoy wearing. Very rose heavy, patchouli gives a dirty base to it with the fig creating an airy sweetness to the fragrance. Can see why people would think it leans feminine however I find it’s one that really morphs with the wearer and comes across masculine on me. I haven’t had another rose patchouli match it yet.

One of the most beautiful creations I had a chance to smell in many years. I will definitely purchase a full bottle. On my skin the dry-down is almost like creamy sandalwood, which is weird since sandalwood is not listed as a note. I would wear this on a vacation near the sea. Reminds me of the small perfume shops in Morocco that I was lucky to visit. Masterpiece, stunning, perfect. 10/10

Just love it! Received a sample and I were just blown away. I might add that I’m a sucker for Guerlain perfumes :)) But this one is a balanced blend of delish rose and slight patch with a sprinkle of wood and leather on top. For me this will end in a buy of a bottle.

Divine. That's all I can say. Projects like crazy, so elegant, so refined, this just luxuriates any closed spaces it walks into. It's a statement fragrance altogether, and I am so happy to have added this to my collection. 10/10.

I tested it first, then ran through a decant, now I own a full bottle. I've been holding off my review for this for months. But Patch Ard is so special I don't even want to talk about it. Do you know what I mean?

Good for winter's absolute beast but that's not the best thing about this fragrance the best thing is my mother compliment this fragrance that's the most important of all ♥️

Heaven. What The Noir 29 wishes it was. Dry woody glory with an amazing floral sweetness winding through. It’s addictive and so complex. I’m in love.

In Spain at Mercadona there is a fragrance called My Soul Soiree For Him (14 Euros), smells very similar to this.

This perfume is a love affair between patchouli and rose, the fig is just sneaking through 9/10

Smells like Le Labo's Thé Noir 29, especially after Thé Noir had a few minutes to settle in.

Spicy rose patchouli. Dense, elevated, dry. Phenomenal projection and longevity.

Been eying this one for a while since watching Aaron Terence Hughes review and had to sample this one. It’s a very captivating dry woody scent with a sweet fruity nuances. The fruity aspect of this fragrance reminds me the cherry flavored ready to eat jellies I used to eat in middle school and it’s very prominent throughout which contrasts the quite masculine woody feel of this fragrance. I was expecting it to have a more pronounced patchouli note but the patchouli comes of more woody/medicinal than earthy/chocolaty which I don’t really enjoy. It’s a nicely made higher end fragrance. Unisex to its core and it will come of masculine or feminine depending on the wearer. Longevity is nice about 7-9 hours, and it’s the kind of fragrance you’d wear when you wanna let everyone in the room know you’re wearing a fragrance. Ideal for a classy night out in fall/winter or colder spring/summer nights. It didn’t really evoke strong emotions while wearing it so I’m not convinced to pull the trigger to make a purchase but my dad absolutely loved this scent and I think he’s gonna buy it for himself lol.

Not what I'd expect from a fragrance with "Patchouli" in the name, as my memory of that pungent scent has remained in the 90s. This is more of a cedar fragrance with rose, the cedar being quite funky. The patchouli is blended so well to the point of being lost in the cedar, but I can't say I'm mad about that. I'm not a big patchouli fan to begin with and only bought a tester because I knew Guerlain rarely seems to do one-note scents. I might wear this, but the price precludes me from buying something I have mixed feelings about. Perhaps I need to keep wearing it. I've tried most fragrances from the Les Absolus d'Orient collection and I've concluded that Santal Royal is the most worthy of a purchase. However, in Patchouli Ardent's defense, I see this as being a somewhat more approachable and casual scent than Santal Royal.

Patchouli Ardent opens up with a very pepperi start with a strong fig note. As it dries down you get a heavy patchouli scent coupled with a leathery note. This is a solid fragrance for the winter and fall, I do feel like this can be used in the spring aswell due to the patchouli note. It’s a fragrance that is quite versatile, can be used for both casual and formal situations. This scent lasts around 10 hours with a moderate projection. It’s a decent pickup for its price, which is slightly lower than the average niche price nowadays. I do think that if you spend a little more you will get something better. But once again at its price a pretty decent and unique fragrance. Scent: 8 Projection: 7 Longevity: 9 Value: 7 Overall: 8

I see a lot of strange reviews for the fragrance below... woodsmoke, forest fires, gruelling unrelenting patchouli? Personally I get none of that I don’t really see how others do. What I smell is a delicate musky rosy oriental composition, quite sweet and ‘eye catching’ over a nicely balanced patchouli base perhaps with a touch of a smokey undertone and an inclining of leather. Very elegant and refined but also somewhat loud and robust. An extroverted elegance in a way, too densely oriental for me, but I bet it works nicely on others. Perhaps the best of the line, albeit a bit pricey for the quality, but you will find it appropriately priced on many discounters.

Mmhhh yes, I can definitely smell the DNA of Les Absolus d’Orient in this fragrance. My favorite stage is shortly after spraying when a jammy rose note appears: the sweet rose perfectly complements the drier notes of fig, wood and leather. The more the fragrance progresses, the less I smell the rose and fig. The wafts I get at drydown are mostly from leather and wood. The patchouli accord is also present, but it is floating around in the background and more noticeable when smelling the fragrance from close up. I like Patchouli Ardent as a leather fragrance, but as a devotee of the musty and earthy patchouli essential oil, my expectations are not quite met.

Wow, this is not your standard patchouli. It is woody and aromatic. I can definitely recognize patchouli because of the earthy feeling, but weirdly the general sensation is quite dry. All releases from this line have also a distinct leather note, this one is no exception. And beware: upon first spray, if you put your nose close to your skin, there it is... Cumin!!! Luckily it does not last. Overall I am very happy with this purchase, you can find this online for a very reasonable price. I get the decision on the bottle colour, it surprisingly does feel like a blue patchouli (not sure where the "ardent" is coming from...). I wish it lasted longer though.

I got this to try because I love Bois Mysterioux so much. This is a good fragrance. It definitely has the same exotic vibe as BM. It’s got decent projection for a few hours, but it’s basically gone after about 6 hours, at least with the amount I use. It definitely has the complexity to make it worth analyzing and pondering. There are layers to it, pleasant layers. There’s nothing sharp or potentially objectionable in any of the notes or accords. It’s smooth and well behaved. My wife says it smells like a forest glen, but she also says Bois Mysterioux smells like a cactus, so don’t give her assessment too much weight. 😄

I had to sample this because I've been a fan of the Absolus d'Orient line for a while. It definitely fits squarely into the line, but is on the feminine side of things with Ambre Eternel and Encens Mythique, unlike the rest, which are more in unisex territory. Would work well for established ladies who tolerate patchouli but don't like when it dominates too much. For the first couple of hours it's more of a fuzzy sweet floral thing, after which the patchouli finally emerges for the life of the drydown. The performance is pretty impressive.

I blind bought patchouli ardent on my friend's suggestion, without smelling it. I think it smells more like sandalwood than patchouli and has a very luxurious feel to it. An oriental that smells fresh at the same time, probably from the green fig note. My top 3 from Les Absolus d'Orient: 1) Bois Mystérieux 2) Encens Mythique & Santal Royal 3) Patchouli Ardent Scent: 8/10 Silage: 7/10 [ 1-2 Feet radius] Longevity: 7/10 [ 2+ Hrs afterwards it stays as a skin scent] Bottle: 8/10 Price: 8/10

Dirtier version of The Noir 29 by Le Labo. One of my favourite scents so I recognized it right away upon first sniff. Leans more spicy and dirty, probably because of the pepper and leather notes. I find it lacking in depth compared to The Noir, still a beautiful scent at half the cost of the Le Labo.

There's something in here that smells like stale cigarette smoke to me. It's not unpleasant, necessarily; it's like a toned down Jasmin et Cigarette but if you replace the jasmine with rose. Like with JeC, I picture Carol (Cate Blanchett) in the movie "Carol" smelling like this.

Super strong earth and patchouli, I don’t get much of the top notes on opening but later the rose comes through and is nicely balanced. A little sickly for me but it is a high quality patchouli scent and lasts for ages. Definitely a cold weather scent.

Very powerful, i like it, but i do not wear it very often. Maybe to powerful, maybe to oriental, maybe just not really me... Undoubtedly high quality, sillage og longevity👌🏻, niche...many layers, complex. 7,5/10

Blind buy disappointment. Sour, oudy, masculine rose. It’s cold in the vein of Nahema; bracing and formal. I was hoping for a plush Guerlain powdery cocoa powder patch and rose, but what I get is another iteration of that armpitty Santal Pao Rosa. For me, unfortunately Guerlain is either a home run or a strike out. I’m lucky to have plenty of good ones in my collection but this one is definitely not one of them. I will gift it to my husband and hope it fits his chemistry better than it does mine.

Disappointed. I don’t smell any patchouli. Mostly leather, cedar and musk. The rose is not sweet or flowery. I wish I checked the notes before buying. It was expensive and I feel at this price, I could have gotten much better. This might smell better on a man. The name of this perfume is VERY misleading. I would not buy this again 😒

This why I never buy perfumes when only smelled on a paper strip. On paper it's a patchouli b*mb, but on skin it is a smokey leather with rose; not much patch! I think perfumers only test their creations on paper, never on skin. It's alright, but won't buy it. Encens Mythique is my favourite so far.

Sweet watery rose, fig, and cedar. patchouli is not a major player here. I was immediately reminded of Le Labo’s the noir 29 upon smelling this for the first time. To me, they are quite similar, although the guerlain doesn’t have that strange synthetic coldness that a lot of the Le Labo’s do.

rose! too much rose in between patchouli and woods. i guess i've missed the fig note. performance is more then a skin scent with a decent longevity. it would be a perfect scent if they rip off the jammy rose. not my cup of coffee. pass.

This is a beautiful one, nothing like patchouli like it’s name. It’s very similar to bois mysterieux in my opinion. Unless you want to own the beautiful blue bottle you don’t have to get both Great for Fallwinter

It's a lovely fragrance. It is perfect on paper, unfortunately it works badly on my skin :< p.s. My Skin has a slightly higher temperature than others.

This one gives me a blast of spicy patchouli when first sprayed, but that quickly fades and is replaced with an almost fresh rose scent. After dry down, the patchouli comes roaring back and becomes super earthy and rose is almost nowhere to be found. I'm not big on patchouli dominant fragrances - I need for other notes that I like better to be more, or at least as, prominent. I suppose if I close my eyes and use my imagination, there could be cedar and leather (which I adore) in this. But sadly, this is a "no" for me. I think if you are hard core for earthy patchouli fragrances and don't need a lot of complexity, this could be for you. However, don't blind buy this if you are expecting to experience a lot of rose or the other notes. For me, they are AWOL.

On me: totally linear rosy-patchouli. Rather sweet, because of the rose/floral notes, so thankfully lacking the usual mustiness I associate with patchouli; yet the patch is the overall dominant note. Quite overpowering and not migraine friendly. My friend said it would make for a more pleasant room-fragrance. Sillage seems good, longevity not sure as I scrubbed most of it off within an hour or so. I wrote this review after a couple of sprays from a 1ml free sample. I would never purchase this and am not sure I would enjoy smelling it on others either. I am not a patchouli fan in general, however.

I had a sample of this and wore it for 3 days. I loved it, an oriental rose was the prominent note and it had decent performance. I bought the full bottle a few months ago and finally opened it only to be disappointed! I dont know if there is anything wrong with my bottle(bought at official dealer at full retail price, batchcode says production 01/2020) but all i get is a strong cedar note and almost nothing else. Performance is bad, 3-4 hours longevity and very intimate sillage(skin scent alike).

It is the first time that a perfume smells like a bug spray on me. No rose, just bug spray. It has extreme good performance.
