Les Secrets de Sophie

This is a lovely contemporary Guerlain that straddles the old-world Guerlain anise-floral archetype of Apres L'Ondee and a contemporary, bright, spicy orange blossom scent. I'm surprised to see just "violet leaf" listed here as a note, since violet flower ionones themselves feel more represented. The ionones are combined with lovely citrus blossom, jasmine, and citrus peel to form a bright, fresh abstract floral top and core. It doesn't feel "neutered" and dull, though. While being wearable and "modern," there is still a bit of an animalic depthness to those floral notes. The flowers are laid on a bed on tonka, vanilla, and musk. The base doesn't feel heavy however--it is lifted by lemony, dry incense. While it doesn't necessarily smell exactly like this scent, the floral heart has some of the musky, lived-in, creamy floralcy of Penhaligon's Amaranthine. Because of that sensuality, the musk note doesn't feel banal, boring, etc. The drydown does have a feel that is somewhat similar to Insolence, Quand Vient La Pluie, and Iris Ganache--so basically Guerlain's modern rendition of the aforementioned anisic-violet accord. It is lovely and would make a great mainstream evening scent, and it is sad that it is discontinued and unnecessarily expensive.

Alfiecroning, dont let yourself be fooled by other people's appearences, your taste and sensibility with perfumes are totally fine and in no relation to salary, education or birth. If it were that way, only Kings would be noses, perfume creators and it's obviously not the case!!!

charismatic citrus scent,there's a timeless elegance to les secrets de sophie; silvery clear and smoothly concise, not heavy or stodgy, only secretive in the sense of being an unusually luxurious perfume.

I love this! I do not see me purchasing a $420 bottle however someone sent me a decant which is very nice of them! I am totally enjoying it today! No perfume is too classy for me!
