Oeillet Pourpre

Oeillet Pourpre (Store test, on skin) Narcotic Rogue Floral I sniff a few more today after I have chosen My first 3 Guerlain from L’art It is Iris Torreefie, Feve Gourmand and Cuir Beluga. I have boiled down I can use them quite often and I really enjoy all the effect the scent provide from start the to an end, I know where to use, when to use. So I easily choose them first... I sample a few more, especially on skin. In stead of on paper skin, guerlain was another house that perfume can choose you, in the same way you choose fragrance. I sample as much as my skin could. Suddenly I remember I haven’t test out. Oeillet Pourpre; I saw him a few time. But I have no idea what the scent will bec like. But oh boy, this is Narcotic. It feels almost like Tuberose but Rouge Red. The opening already got me. How this so Narcotics part of Guerlain’s blends? I sample along side Rose Barbere, it is a bit more demanding, also slightly older but Oeillet Pourpre.. Never demands that much, it seems middle age. Independent with power yet alluring in the same time. It feels like almost belong to Amouage. But it is not, it is still so much useable. This is really enjoyable.. When the scent progress further, the rogue color remains but transiting into smoke amber kind of thing. But resinous quality that smell almost like flower sap, leaking soaking covers that amber. As scent progress leaves tail of smoky effect to overall scent. I can’t really say anything further But the scent make me panic.. I don’t want to loose you after I found you. My only concern is.. I don’t where to use you. You are so narcotic yet appealing. Let’s me cystalize.. I might... I might.. Further dry down is still beautiful, Ok whatever, I will buy you. ==== As the scent develop, it weak a bit too fast.. it leave a trace of spicy amber left on skin. Like a sheer clove and mild tint of rogue color.. I means, I won’t blame.. but the price it might should last a bit longer..while another 3 scent still remains detectable.. this one mostly leave my skin already. And I this scent the last like.. 9 something til’ 1 after midnight on testing day around 4 and a half, it leaves. While Cuir Beluga and Iris Torrefie & Feve Gourmand remains strong. Even Anglic Noir remains as fresh green scent. By this time, SDV & Tuberose also leaving too. This is slightly stronger. I will reconsideration once again. But the scent is truly enjoyable. ===== I brought it on Jan 28, 2024. 2 day after the visit. Sorry because you are so good. I really want to have you in my collection. ===== Edit 1 on December 17, 2024 After a few wear, I think I (kind of) understand this fragrance a bit more. It is Guerlain take on "Peau D'Espagne" the leathery - Carnation concoction. In very far dry down of Oeillet Pourpre it kind of recall that one. But this is just slight more vanillary / Benzoin. It takes scent in another direction. I think Carnation & Leathery is a beautiful concoction.

"Oeillet Pourpre" (Purple Carnation) is one of the undervalued gems of the Guerlain's L'Art & La Matiere line. it is one of the smoothest and expensive sounding leather and wood unisex blends. Top note is a clove sweetened by pear. Its spicy character in unmistakable and golden pear adds a smooth delicacy to it. Carnation blooms on their background, elegant and expressive, reminiscent of the decadence of the roaring 20s, when she was in vogue and on everyone's dressing table. In this fragrance it is delicately spicy and slightly powdery, not a cold red, but a deeper, magenta-like hue, with burgundy streaks across the petals. Benzoin warms the heart of the composition and lifts carnation to the new level, helping it to open up in a new spectrum, contrary to popular opinion of this flower being past its prime and sounding vintage and stale. Here we see the genius of Guerlain - they took a flower that many have forsaken and brought it back to life in a completely different "attire", sound and expression. Vanilla amplifies the sweetness of the heart very lightly, at the same time allowing smokey suede (I know that the pyramid says leather, but the execution is so warm and velvet-like, that sueded is the truest sensation I get) and light wood serve as a backdrop for carnation blooms. "Oeillet Pourpre" is what I would call a true solifloral - as there is only one flower present in the entire composition, and it is presented ever so masterfully and uniquely that one feels as carnation has been rediscovered all over again as a lost continent or planet in the vastness of the olfactory floral universe. The scent is warm and seductive. Projection is very good, and extra sprays will create a notable sillage, if one so desires. When it melts into the skin after some hours, it brings up Tamara de Lempicka "Reclining Nude I" from 1925, with the woman in a languid pose, half way between dreaming and awareness, of effortless sexuality of her bare skin and free falling blonde curls. Decadent. Classic. Irresistible. "Oeillet Pourpre"

I cannot speak on LUI but as for this, it is absolutely magnificent! It's as if each of the notes were put through a sift, I cannot detect a single note that dominates. I watched a review where someone mentioned that this smelled like BBQ - their nose is clearly broken. This in no world smells like BBQ, not even in the slightest! I remember trying it for the first time and I was hit with this sweet tase? sensation? on the back of my throat, it's so very hard to convey but I was completely taken aback. Certainty one I will continue to test, but so far it's a strong like :) UPDATE: On my skin this has little to no performance and it hardly detectable which is so sad as on paper it smells very intriguing, sadly I cannot justify the price of this for the scent alone as performance is important to me. Still worth a try if you can acquire a sample. UPDATE 2.0: After letter my sample sit, it did come into it's own and I've come to realise that this is something that I will just have to wear at home, in my pyjamas and enjoying my own company. This is the closest scent that I can connect a childhood memory to, as such it is something very special to me and I feel very lucky to have a full bottle within my collection.

Oeillet Pourpre is soooo smooth and marshmallow light and musky-creamy-cosy. It’s delicious and gently edible as it’s a creamy amber with s’mores, hazelnut and cosy white musk. It’s very light but perfect as an every single day scent. This is what bare skin should smell like and doesn’t need to be any more heavily scented. Sillage is only about 2cm but it’s your own private snuggly clean pajama scent. It’s more nuanced and (dare I say) even subtler than Vanille Planifolia but I love it. If this were cheaper (and not apparently discontinued, I can’t even find Lui anywhere either) then I’d wear this everyday as it’s neither boring nor bothersome. But it’s expensive for something so personal and private. So do I buy it? Logic states probably not but the heart (and nose) adores it.

Lui is ranked a lot higher (4.21 as of right now). That tells me that some of these reviews might be because of the move to the new collection and price, not the scent. The scent is different. Clove, carnation, and benzoin are the stars of the show. The opening hints at a little pear and the dry down is smoky and vanillic. It’s unlike anything I’ve smelled and I appreciate that it will stand out amongst the sea of TF and Dior. The sillage is good and it easily lasts on my skin for upwards of 9 hours. Its uniqueness makes it signature scent worthy. A strong like becoming a love the more I wear it. If you’re looking to discover something new that stands out, give Oeillet Pourpre a try.

Haunting! Smoked clove with its leathery nuances and facets of baked apple, embers and spice plays so well with the pear in the opening. The benzoin, vanilla and smoke notes also play into the clove. All dancing to highlight one another. The carnation is the star, sharing it's honeyed floral sweetness with the fruity clove ans incense like benzoin sweetness. The entire composition feels like a sweet woody vanilla with warm holiday spiced apple and pear tart tartan.

Testing my sample; warm spicy delight, spicy clove with carnations becomes a smoky woodier vanilla. Gets sweeter and muskier as it dries on my skin but the spiciness doesn't fade. A great cool/cold weather offering, definitely similar to Lui (one of my favorites), but with a softer hand. My sample is a few years old, and this is definitely one of those I wish I would have tested earlier and purchased while it was still available.

This is so Guerlain..elegant,quiet,soft,smooth,watercolored,beautifully blended..smells perfect without smelling like anything really,almost nonexistent sillage or projection,you can only smell this yourself or if someone else puts their nose on ur skin..perfect for intimate moments for that reason.Opening is more floral and feminine,the base is more masculine.

I love this! I have the original formula LUI. While they are similar this formulation is so much better with decent longevity. To me the original LUI is more powdery, this is more vanilla, carnation and clove forward. Dry down is gorgeous, my only issue is the price point.

This is awesome. Subtle, smoky, resinous, unique. This is more masculine than unisex. Very subtle but thick and rich. Smells like rich incense, woods and resins. Smells very expensive and layered. Very confident and classy. Soft. Rating: 9.0

Oeillet Pourpre is a nice oriental perfume which is suitable even for summer. I liked it a lot i liked the carnation the smokiness but not available in my country. So sad if it is discontinued.

This seems to only be available in Europe now. No longer available in the US

Beautiful carnation. Yes, it is reminiscent of Moscow Rouge/Red Moscow to me. Oeillet feels like a softer, more rounded and refined, less aldehydic version of it. First I get sharp cloves and carnation, that quickly softens and get slightly powdery. All the base notes are present to me from the beginning. Carnation and cloves are framed in fantastic benzoin and charred vanilla the way only Guerlain can make it. The whole concoction is quite gorgeous with a bit of vintage feel to it. And the drydown is indeed very similar to Vanille Planifolia Extrait 21 (not the opening or the middle though, nothing in common).

I don't know the previous versions of this and I don't really care about the bottle (don't throw rocks at me!). So I am not upset about the new bottle or about the perfume remake. On me it smells a bit too sweet, as the vanilla is behind everything. The dry-down is kind of nice, I feel a bit of smoke but also the annoying vanilla; but the start is... strange. On my skin it smells like going to the dentist's. Try before you buy.

I think for me the clove ruins it for me

I liked this well enough on the card that it was in my top 5 for the line when I tested all the fragrances on cards. However, on skin I think this is cementing the fact that I dislike carnation. I’m no longer a fan of the scent at all from my first wearing (sampled). I do enjoy the base notes, benzoin, and clove are blended well, a nice play of cool and warm. Firmly unisex except the carnation I almost thing of as a masculine floral. As for “this smells like bbq” it does remind me of the smell of being out in your yard with maybe a smoker going on low, you used a rub so there is some sweet spice in the air and there are some plants (carnation) and damp grass around you? Maybe my husband would like it lol.

All clove with hints of carnation + a very slight hint of vanilla. I genuinely couldn’t even smell anything when I tried this with a hand fan... Love the juice color though

anyone saying this smells like blue vanille is fucking ludicrous... Hell no

This smells how deodorant taste. Not in a bad way its quite beautiful. Ambre Samar scratches the itch for this since its discontinued. Its not 90% but its right at 70-80% ig. Its big red gum with clove nuances. This is straight clove bubble gum which is one of the main ingredients in vintage gum. & I do not get Vanille Planifolia 21 AT ALL! That scent is a steamed egg nog with extra nutmeg and mulling spices muted and mixed in. Thats from owning the fragrance for 3 years as well as candles and a travel of Henry J's Blue Vanille. Unless people are talking about the simple house DNA.. nah!

Oeillet Pourpre, Purple Carnation. Purple represents royalty, opulence and mystery. This fragrance exudes all of the above and more. An otherworldly carnation that is warm, dark, spicy and damn near edible. Oeillet Pourpre likes to teeter on the verge of being gourmand, which is why it is so addictive... at least for me. Never once does this fragrance present itself as floral. This carnation sits in a vase of sweet, smoky and resinous notes making it very unique but still very wearable. Easily one of my favorite Guerlain L'Art & La Matière fragrances and reached for often.
