Patchouli Ardent

My review is for the Absolus Allegoria reformulation (? - I found conflicting information). I did not know the previous scent. I got myself a full bottle of this for Christmas after a LOT of hunting for a scent that was within my budget, versatile, unique, well-performing. This is the GEM of the Absolu Allegoria line, without a doubt. I am in love with this fragrance. It is a beast, smells fantastic, and you could pull this scent off in pretty much any situation IF you are careful with spraying as it gets overpowering very quickly. Its opening is so strong and projection for this beast (2-3 ft) lasts for a solid 4-5 hours on my skin, and proceeds to last as a skin scent at least until I go to bed (~12+ depending on activity). I do 3 sprays generally and I worry that I am overpowering people a little since I can smell it myself without sniffing at anything for a long time after application. But I love the smell too much to sissy spray. The opening is a blast of pepper and other spices, but I do not smell the fig like the notes say. The patchouli and the rose reveal themselves relatively quickly to provide you with a blast of scent, and last for a while, although the patchouli itself is not strong or wet soil smell like other patchouli's I have smelt. The dry down takes a long time to show up - but when it does, it is alluring, predominantly musky, with a dash of leather and some woody base to back it up. It is challenging to pick up any individual notes, but it is so well blended that the overall impression gives a refined, sensual and continuously addictive scent. I would say this leans masculine, but I could see the right woman pulling this off. Don't sleep on this. It is the best of the line and it is the best scent in my admittedly small collection. It's not a daily as it is too powerful, but I damn want it to be. Price wise - fine at that 150 euro price point I paid, but if you get it on a discount, power to you. Do not blind buy it, it is not for everyone.

Patchouli Ardent came as a total shock for me!!! While I am usually not much of a fan of patchouli as it is often too earthy or too powerful, I absolutely fell in love with this fragrance! It feels luxurious, elegant, and simply stunning! The patchouli in this fragrance is strong yet never overwhelming. It feels silky and soft, warm and sweet but always well-blended and luxurious. I adore its elegance and sophistication because despite the complexity of composition and ingredients, this perfume smells light, airy, and effortless. This fragrance won't appeal to those who are looking for an overwhelming dark patchouli, but anyone searching for elegant patchouli can try it! Overall, I think this is one of the most beautiful fragrances from Guerlain. Overall it is a 9.3/10 for this one.

Patchouli Ardent is an INCREDIBLE fragrance. Probably the #1 patchouli based fragrance I've ever had. It's extremely deep, the patchouli isn't too medicinal, but more smooth. It's got just the right amount of sweetness, woody, leather, and musky notes. It leans dark for sure, but it's got a freshness that makes it daytime wearable. The rose note is subtle but perfect maintaining its masculine vibe. It's also extremely unique, this isn't some common fragrance profile that you're smelling on anyone. I'm telling you, Patchouli Ardent is 100% ELITE. If you're curious....buy it. The value is just insane, around $100 for 125ML for a fragrance that smells like it could easily be worth three times that. This one just solidifies Guerlain as the best house in the game. No debate.

I don’t like the opening on skin so much: to me, it has something sour. Maybe it’s the fig that is listed in the older version of this fragrance in the opening that doesn’t sit so well with me. But then it passes very quickly, and what’s left is a very beautiful, sophisticated patchouli-rose combination. It’s not a hippy patchouli, or a chocolate cake kind of patchouli. It’s an elegant patchouli for special occasions, or for someone who carries themselves in a sophisticated, powerful manner. Not playful or fresh, but gorgeous and formal.

Extremely well done perfume. Smells elegant, with a sexy undertone. For me, the rose is more fruity than floral. On my skin, I can feel the patchouli quite strongly, which I really like. It gives me the vibe of an autumn rainy day with a twist. This perfume creates a cozy vibe for me. Definitely one of my fav from my collection.

8.5/10 J'adore. Très caractériel, très oriental, faut aimer le patchouli. Bonne projection mais tenue moyenne, ne tient pas assez longtemps, 5 6 heures max avant de devenir skin scent donc ça vaut pas le coup de l'ajouter à ma collection, mais belle découverte. Je le préfère même légèrement au super oud essentiel.

I really enjoy wearing this. I smell a lot of patchouli and sillage in warmer settings is above average with good longevity. Noticed that some folks smell this while others go nose blind very quickly. Shukran Habibi!

Very nice and strong patchouli, pretty classic twist with "oud-ish rose" here. It does not seem complicated but is still nicely bold and mature. Reminds Prada The miracle of the rose, but less complex tho

It's beautiful parfume and very very long lasting. It lasts for days on the skin. But, it's hard to think of occasion where to wear this

Now don't get fooled by the name Patchouli ardent! because the patchouli in this is very faint, Instead it opens up woody with roses along with the white musk with a faint patchouli note then it dries down to a strong woody note kind of like agar wood or even oud with balsamic earthy way, But not the barn yardish oud no it's a classy one. Now I know it's not what I expected it to be, But I don't regret buying it because it's a classy woody men's fragrance with a great longevity and projection, I can smell it the next day even after showering.

This is strong! Wow I tested it in the Guerlain shop. It smells divine yet it is really quite concentrated. A nice patchouli with some quality rose and musk. It is so smooth and can easily fill the space. I had it sprayed on my clothing and I can still smell it clearly on my clothings the next day. Very good concentration but I would have actually expected something more complex than the current version at this price. Strong like for me, but probably not bottle worthy.

I have patchouli essential oil and it kinda got a Dettol smell. this prefume has it alot which i dunno how i feel about it!! but i like it, it's different.

10 Hours of soft & sweet roses.

The first few hours patchouli doesn't show up. It's potent rose and leather.Then the patchouli makes it's entrance and it is strong and dominant. I do not like this perfume. Totaly not my thing from the begining to the end. All I want to say to patchouli lovers it is..give it time!

I was expecting more patchouli and less oudy wood and spices, definitely not my cup of tea. Way too oriental and lacking the typical Guerlain character.

No, or very little patchouli in this ! It's a non-event oud rose combo.Yawn, yawn. Really expected more from this house...

Didnt like smells exactly like the ingredients but for old people boring

I read the reviews. I don’t know what kind of a taste foreign ppl have but I always thought there’s no way that perfumes could smell bad until I smelled this 💔💔💔. I get literal headaches and a disgusting smell. I don’t smell rose in this at all. If you wanna smell rose try Mancera Roses Vanille. If I spray it to my hand I just wanna wash it away. I bought a 5ml sample and I haven’t even used 1ml. It’s has been 8 months so imagine. This perfume is not for faint hearted. If you want people to stay away from you this is for you this is coming from a guy who has Dior Homme intense,Tom Ford Onbre Leather, Guerlain Santal/same edition black bottle,Habit Rouge, and the Homme one.

I didn't know that they'd rebranded and reformulated this perfume until I bought this, and couldn't find the fig. It's because there is no fig! The opening is dominated by a sort of "generic mass-market niche by numbers" thick, dense aromascent. (Think, Pengaligons, MFK, new Pasha Parfum etc. It's everywhere in faux niche today.) This retreats slightly, but... Only slightly. It persists, and is my least favourite aspect of this perfume. The body of this perfume feels sumptuous and skanky at the same time. Just as with the Les Absolus d'Orient version of this, it really isn't a patchouli-patchouli scent at all. If I benchmark this against Nobile's "wet earth" patchouli solinote, it's nothing like that. Nor is it anything like the daintier, more playful patchouli you'd find in successful masculine scents like Héritage de Guerlain, Zino or Beau de Jour. So... It's not really an obviously patchouli-driven scent at all. And yet, what it does lead with is a sort of moist, warm earthiness. The rose is done really well, because it doesn't break out and take over as it does in, say, Lyric Man. It's more reminiscent of the woody rose in Égoïste, especially in the very far dry down (2 hrs +). The leather is also really present. It's so well blended - it's like a hymn to organic energy and the soil. As such, it really presents a sort of "base, organic sensuality" turned into an olfactory landscape.

The woman i’m in love with but can’t have asked me what my favorite scent is and i said patchouli - in the goth freshly dug grave type of way, not the hippie way. so she wore this to our few dates we went on before she told me she’s in love with her ex. i left my then-boyfriend to date her, but she couldn’t get over that ex, she said it feels like cheating even though they broke up a while ago. i’ll always remember that alabaster white round face with perfect cheekbones under the violet and pink lights while my favorite band was playing, and when she’d lean over to kiss me i’d smell the leather and patchouli and the products in her black hair weaved with silver little threads, like some night sky on her head. i’ll probably never see her again.

I wouldn't trust the nose of anyone who compares this to Pardon... they're entirely different perfumes. Patchouli Ardent is primarily a musky, leathery hide on a bed of sumptuous red roses. The patchouli is there, but well in the background, giving the fragrance a sultry, vintage-leaning glamour that does indeed smell like a Middle-Eastern wedding. I imagine this much more on a beautifully dressed woman than on a man. Burnished reds and deep purples. Pardon, on the other hand, is incredibly gentlemanly. Full-bodied patchouli that slowly morphs into its bittersweet, dark-chocolate variety, alongside warm spices, subtle florals and a gorgeous oud accord. Not a single whiff of leather or rose. Dark greens and dusky browns.

Chasing my patchouli obsession down every alleyway, I thought I’d try this after finding it unexpectedly in a local shop. I’m fairly sure I sampled the old version but this one... oh dear, what a mistake. An instant cloud of cedar pencil shavings penetrated by a sharp, synthetic-feeling rose, then more cedar. On me it’s a suffocating cloud of... cypriol? I could swear that’s basically what’s in the bottle. Tried scrubbing it off but the pencil shavings remain. Would some patchouli have emerged at some point? I was too annoyed to wait around.

Stunning perfume, it is sharp but in the smoothest way possible, I smell that pencil shaving, mixed rose, spices and woods. It smells like an Arabic wedding! Absolutely beautiful. But one issue, to my nose it has a smell of BO! I am absolutely in love with the fragrance but the only issue that make me not want to wear it is that BO smell. I’ll let it dry down fully, if it didn’t change I might try to return it or use it for layering

Well... there is not much patchouli here:D Rose is much more dominant. It’s a nice, unisex, oriental perfume, which is not too sweet, just the perfect amount. It has a slight herbal nuance (but like I said, you can’t really tell that it’s patchouli, it’s just a vague herbal feel.) Overall, I hate rose, but this is actually nice... It’s sophisticated enough to not come off as cloying, despite being very strong. I like it!

I absolutely adore this perfume. After only after a few days, it quickly became my signature scent. The name implies patchouli heavy, but it really is a new interpretation. I quickly received many compliments, but the one that astounded me was the remark “it smells so fresh”. Who’d have thought a patchouli perfume would smell “fresh”? That demonstrates the complexity beautifully.

the new formulation smells revolting i dont even wanna go into detail but 1st of all they saw the best note in the og (the fig) and said SCRATCH that recall back to scratch i get an extremely screetchy pickley disgusting sandalwood which i dont get in the og oh and theres this burnt smell in the drydown and overall it just smells like sour pickle pencil shaving armpits so yeah 🦍💨

For someone who can’t stand Patchouli .. I really really love this. I was in duty free yesterday and I sprayed it on me and I sniffed it one, twice, thrice and kept on sniffing. Something about it is just addictive, it’s a gorgeous blend of patchouli & rose and it even lasted on my skin after soaking in a bath.

i have 2 questions: Is this the same or different from the other patchouli ardent bottles that don’t have the honeycomb golden design at the top of the bottle? Secondly, is there a trusted non retail vendor that sells this? I can’t find it on jomashop nor maxaroma. Would appreciate any help! Thanks

sprayed this on my wrist in the perfume shop. it’s been months that i haven’t even talked to her and it literally smells like her kiss did. tried to scrub it off with wet wipes and soap all day but i can still smell the rose. what a horrible mistake. real good perfume though

Starts off as a pencil shavings scent and dries down to spices and rose in this collection’s signature style. Nothing groundbreaking. I prefer Santal Royal, Oud Essentiel, and Musc Noble in this line and Patchouli Paris in Guerlain overall

Having reviewed two of Molinard Patchoulies, smelling this I get a true Guerlain touch. Patchouli Ardent is rosy, clean, airy, just a touch of leather. Not a resinous nor sweet nor ambery. I don't have anything like it.

Smells of pencil shavings which isnt something I got from the previous version. This rebottled and reformulated release has produced a worse fragrance.

This smells very middle eastern, does not smell like it came from a French company like Guerlain. Will have to wear it more to make mind up.

VERY similar to Nasomatto Pardon, I'm surprised no one is saying this Pardon just has a tad bit more depth and stronger in performance

a stone of perfume. literally just a clump that doesn't transform into any of the individual notes no matter where you apply this.

Ahhh soo refreshing patchouli im a woman and i love girlie scents but its extremely nice on me.

Has that soapy Jo Malone thing going on along with a spritely dose of DS Durga Coriander.
